Should we get our 1-year-old a tablet?

As long as you only allow him to use it a little bit everyday, it should be fine

I don’t see a problem with it at all

I have 2 kids, 7 and 3yrs. We are 100% against tech for kids especially so young. I hate that screens are taking over children. I think its just lazy too. Sit with ur kids and teach them thru play

Screentime is screentime. So if you let your child watch TV, then the tablet is the same. Some parents allow it, some dont. You do you and dont listen to the negative Nancy’s. Everyones quick to pass judgement. Dont take it to heart.

Delay as long as possible unless you can and will remain super strict on time limits

Been there done that and the limited kids are doing much better

Tv and ipads and even video games are all completely different monsters

Not recommend until they are at least two. I would delay as long as you can.

My 2 year old gets on YouTube on my phone or either we put YouTube on TV and put baby learning videos and she’s learned her abcs, how to count, she even enjoys dancing and singing along to some of the music they have. YouTube has many learning videos for children. Then i also taught her myself as well. Like when i give her a bath we would sing the abcs and count, when i change her diaper. Just many times throughout the day. The times i let her have my phone for her to watch the learning videos, is for when i need to get other things done, and tend to my other children so it’ll occupy her and she’s learning at the same time.

We use the leapfrog little apps ‘tablet’

My toddler has one. I bought a year’s subscription to ABC Mouse. It’s fun and educational. Your kid will love it. Needs supervising though.

Personally I stream to my TV shows like little baby bum which are educational and fun.
We sing we do the actions and dance and they learn the nursery rhymes as well as things like shapes colors letters and numbers.
My kids that I’ve done this with leart to count quite high very young and their alphabet and knew all their colors and shapes.
A bonus was all the singing helped them try and learn new words

Because it’s on in the background most of the day they will stop to sing a song or 2 and then carry on playing with toys or running around chacing eachother.
Phones or tablets I think they get a bit possessive of so I prefer the tv

My daughter is learning alot by watching nursery rhymes etc on my phone. She also plays a lot outside. Balance

I wonder why it’s all about entertaining kids so much these days.
Teach them to be able to be content and watch what adults are doing, let them copy daily routines and get an understanding for what as to be taken care of?
Of course they can play on electronic devices too but very limited time and only as a treat for something good, not to quiet them down and make them easier to handle. Let them truly grasp the concept of ‘no’ first

My 3 year old has an iPad. We have it set to only apps for those under 4. He also has a set block of time to use it. He knows when it is 5pm now. I was teasing hubby that we need to move it so he learns to tell time quick. LOL

My kids never had one, but they’re also 16 and 13 so that wasn’t normal, or really possible then. Times change. My mom didn’t have a TV as a kid, I didn’t have a computer, again everything is time relative. I also was a teacher when my kids were young and had long summers to teach them stuff. That worked for my family but I know had we had tablets been a things I’d at least used them to work with the kids and likely to do fun stuff too. I’d follow recommendations on screen exposure for like eyesight and sleep purposes but I wouldn’t let anyone shame you into feeling bad about keeping up with the times if it works for you.

He’s too young for structured learning. He needs to play x

My oldest we got an innotab they’ve been around over 10 years! Second I’m not spending $300 on an iPad periodtt.

Sure . My daughter has had one since she was 1 . Just get a screen protector & a kiddie tablet cover and enjoy

You can find a happy medium. My daughter’s nearly 3 and has a tablet, she learns a lot through it, but she also gets taken out a lot & spends time with family a lot. Technology is only going to get more prevalent in our lives, we use tech every day, for everything. Its necessary to teach our kids how to use it, how to maintain it and how to be safe with it.

Kids being unable to hold pencils as they are so used to Tablets can be an issue, (about as scary as some Schools removing analogue clocks as they don’t know how to tell time on them). It’s a little young but there are ones made for young kids, also more durable than most Tablets and most have a handle but as long as it’s educational videos or games that they use it for and don’t spend too long on it, making sure to play with blocks, drawing, etc. then it should be okay. Could maybe have it as a treat if they are good that day or earn so many stars?
Btw, link about dexterity, I don’t read much from that site but did a quick search and clicked it to copy paste to you, not read this actual article but should be okay…half asleep lol, lazy work.

If you go to the app store and enter educational games you’ll see a whole bunch and they have ratings that give you a better gauge of the actual practical use of the app

My 4 year old has a tablet and it’s been helping her with her speech, but it’s about how long they are on it. My daughter picks her own time, she’ll go on it for a total of 3 hours in a day.

Shell find counting games, color games and other educational things on YouTube.

My daughter will sit with me when she is on it, so I can monitor what she is watching.

Look, it’s your kid and no one else’s. If you feel like he or she will benefit from it then do it.

We all have opinions about this subject, but ultimately the decision is yours.

My two year old (since October) and I watch YouTube together and I used to have it on the tv, but now am down to my phone and plan on him getting a tablet for Christmas. He’ll still be monitored but to be honest between me and the videos, he knows all the colors, shapes, how to count to fifteen and actually count and recognize individual numbers out of order, has a huge vocab, and knows about twenty individual letters on top of almost having the alphabet down in order, and emotions and is learning how to express them… He helps me clean without asking, he’s rather vocal, and I think his videos he loves have helped, one hundred percent.

Excited kid with an endless spirit? Take that kiddo outside, why smoosh his spirit with worthless technology?

1 1/2 is quite young to expect to sit and learn. Toddlers especially learn through play. What about toys for his age? We had Disney jr and Nick jr when mine were little. They got tablets when they were older, but kept breaking them in different ways. We got the Amazon Kindle fires they weren’t expensive had controls and served the purpose.

Dont do it! Lol. I’m sure people will talk about development and other things. But I’m here to tell u, that the kindle fire may be kid tested. It may come with a worry free guarantee. BUT when your 4 year old gets mad and busts the screen which they will, kindle will only replace the 1st one. The replacement wont come with the worry free guarantee. And the replacement will be broken just as fast as the first. Not to mention the addiction. Both my daughters became so addicted to that thing. The temper tantrums when they couldnt have it were ridiculous. Worst decision I ever made.

The child is learning cause and effect and many other things during all of that interaction with you. In my opinion, tablets puts a cap on their imagination and their ability to explore free thinking. Save the tablets for 3&^ or older.
Take your children outside.

My little girl had a tablet when she turned 1…she learned SO MUCH its amazing how fast children learn. She accidently broke that one and we recently bought another now that shes older. Amazon fire 7 kids tablet was on sale 60$ instead of 100$. Might still be on sale.

NO. the running& bouncing around is helping him learn his ABC’s. let him be a toddler. screens at this age should be used extremely minimally or not at all.

No! Let him play with other kids his age. He’s too young for that!

My almost 5 year old is getting one for christmas, and I was hesitant on that. But she starts school next fall so it will help.

In the first paragraph you already have your answer. It says…me and my husband don’t like when kids have electronics. So.YOUR
answer is NO! Good.answer

Kindle fire with Amazon freetime. My kid learns so much and I only let him use it when I am playing on it too. I let him run it Nd if he gets stuck on something I show him. I keep it on airplane mode unless I’m downloading new books or games.

Kids that age need to learn to entertain themselves! Get him something that will keep him moving, playing and stimulating his imagination. Toy trucks and cars come to mind. Playskool has a plethera of early learning toys that stimulate the learning process. Many have sounds, too. Also, there is a website, the name of which escapes me at the moment, that you can actually sort the toys by age. Children don’t NEED electronics to learn. Maybe some outdoor playtime will help with the energy.

heck no!! open the door!! go outside!! neither of my kids have electronic devices. 5 & 3. You can teach your child the same things in the real world as on an electronic device. And so much more. Both our kids are ahead of the “curve” as other kids their own ages who do have their own devices. sure, it starts as an hour here or there, but then its non-stop and no one interacts with eachother.

My child is extremely smart I believe it’s vector the tablet and the learning shows we watched together. I wouldn’t advise to let them do what they want. They can see things not appropriate for them. My kid is in Kindergarten already testing almost out of 1st grade already. He can really read, add and subtract, he knows the continents, his address and phone number, all of his immediate family’s full name . So please don’t listen to these crazy people saying no. It really is different for each child and their circumstances. I lived in an apartment complex for the first 4 years of his life with no place to play outdoors. So it’s not like I was sending my kids to the parking lot to play. :woman_facepalming:t2:

No no no, Avoid tech as long as you can, YOU should spend time teaching your child, This shouldn’t be left to devices, It will be your downfall in the long run.

There’s nothing wrong with a tablet🙄 it actually has helped more kids with speech and understanding certain things they are asked. It’s all about time consumption. Set a timer on the tablet and it will automatically turn off at set time.
