What age do you think it's appropriate for girls to get their nails done?

What age do you ladies think is appropriate for a young girl to get their nails done? My daughter is 7 (almost 8 ) years old and loves to put on the glue on little girl nails, which fall off the same day. I was considering taking her to the nail salon for her 8th birthday and getting her a set, but still, feel like it could be too young. I wouldn’t let her get them long, or too crazy, but a simple, short, calm style, would still make her happy. What age did you mama’s let your girls get their first set at?

I started taking my daughter with me when she was 2.5. I get a manicure and she gets her nails and toes painted and loves it!

My daugther frist time was before her 3 bday

I would just do a manicure and pedicure no fake nails until she’s older…like high school

You could do a gel manicure

I would say get them painted… a set is a lot for a child and can cause damage to her nails! Just a thought to try a mani first!

when she can pay for them Those things are Horrible for your nails Get a regular mani pedi and skip the fake nails Shes a KID

Manicure with dip/gel

Fake nails are sooooooooooo horrible for your real nails. I would never get her a set of fake nails. But I would totally get her a manicure and possibly a pedicure as well. That would be such a fun day for both of you.

My mom has done nails basically her whole life.
She wouldn’t let me get them untill I was like 13/14 for a lot of different reasons.
If your going to do anything, do shellac. She’s to young for acrylic.

I was just get her a manicure with bio gel on natural nail it will last a long time and won’t damage the nails

Much too young. .vroeg ryp…vroeg vrot.

Not acrylics. It will ruin her nails. Just get them painted

I’ve allowed my daughter to get a gel manicure at the age of 2. But I think a full gel/acrylic set (tips) at 8 is to young in my opinion.

Just nails painted anytime. But using nail glue and acrylic is damaging to real nails.

I would teach her to care for the mail she has. Simple trimming/filling, good nutrition, and plenty of water will allow her to naturally grow pretty nails. Then nail polish will look extra beautiful on them. Way better then artificial nails.

My daughter got hers done once at 3

Just do a regular manicure with gel polish. Avoid doing acrylics until she is older. I was 15 when I got acrylic nails the 1st time.

Do a gel manicure. Too young for fake and will last longer than just polish

at that age, no. get her a manicure with polish. Fake nails, gels, acrylics ruin the nail bed, and there’s no way I would do it again even for myself. When she can pay for it, she can get her own fake nails. Sorry, not sorry. I’d be hella pissed if my mom would have even allowed me to use this mess

I would get gel polish and an actual manicure, but not false nails. As an adult I’m debating never getting them again and I love them. They harbor all kinds of bacteria and ruin your natural nails. I have ridges in several of mine and dryness and damage I’ll struggle to get rid of for quite a while from my last set. I’d find an alternative.

Mani/Pedi yes acrylics, not at 8. IMO

Just a manicure.theres so much time for fake nails later.they only stay little for a minute.my daughter couldnt have them till 8th grade graduation.and they were short

Wayyyyyyyyy Toooooooo Youngggggggh!!!

First time my daughter got her nails done, she was 9. We made a girl’s day out of it. Nails done, hair trimmed and lunch

Mine is 13 and has not had a set done. I’ve had them polish her nails at the salon while I got mine done in the past, but I wouldnt put fake nails on her that young. I got my first set when I was 17 for prom.

Fake nails are horrible for their nails. I know be cause mine are horrible because of them :joy: they’re way too much upkeep. If you have to subject your kid to those fumes do a manicure

At that age the acrylic could rip off her whole nail and cause cracks in them… There still so soft and under developed… think of what your nails look like when acrylics come off , and imagine what it would do to those thin, soft under developed nails…

I think she is to young

My daughter has had fake nails off and on since she was about 4 - we bought from store and glued on - I’ve taken her to salon too but bc I make her get them cut down so much I often feel like it’s not worth it I’m better to let her just get manicure from salon. It would be a fun treat for birthday

My daughter was in intermediate so 11 when she got hers first done. She gets them every birthday and Christmas as a gift. I would definitely recommend gel manicure you can still get pretty things done on her nails etc.

I was probably around the same age when I got mine done for the first time. I’d recommend just getting them short! & you could always get them to do the dip or celiac on her actually nail instead of putting on fake nails! It would be much more natural & still the experience of getting them done :slightly_smiling_face: whatever you decide, but i think it’s a great idea for her bday!!

Me personally wouldn’t do acrylics but a manicure with gel polish. It would strengthen her nails so they could grow out naturally. Plus it would be a fun mom and daughter day you can do once a month.

Get her a manicure and pedicure with none chip polish. Make a day of it.

Coukd have the nail salon do a pretty paint on her actual nails

Maybe just a manicure

Do the gel not fake nails. My daughter is 11 and I only let her get gel nails

I would say that is too young for a set, just because of all the damage that they can do to your nails. I think a manicure or pedicure with some regular polish (gels can be damaging too so not them) would be super fun for her though and loved just the same!

Fake nails I wouldn’t let her get till like 13 if u absolutely set on letting her do that. Me personally I started taking my sister and cousin to get manicures and pedicures at like 7.

Yes she is young for nails

Don’t do acrylic just do gel.

So glad I didnt have a girl for reasons like this one… I had my nails done once for a wedding and I’ll never do it again. My nails got destroyed by it… I would wait until older… most girls I know didnt start until 16 or older

My daughter got hers painted professionally at 3 years old…

Too little. Get her a gel manicure and help her grow out her natural nails

I got mine done for the first time for my 6th grade graduation. So id say like 11 or 12? Just take her to get her nails painted. I only ever got them done for graduations and a few times after high school

My 9 year old gets gel and my 14 does acrylics

As for painting them my mom took me for my 7th birthday to get them painted. Acrylic nails was my senior prom and I had to pay for them

Some nail salons will just air brush them at most or just paint them. I’d still consider buying the child press on nails.

I wouldn’t get her a set of nails but they can do a manicure.

A basic mani pedi sure but real fake nails she’s way to young for my daughter is almost 11 and I still won’t let her get them. Like 13-14 I feel is a appropriate age

Mani whenever as a treat but acrylic, when they can pay for it. Senior year of h.s. pics and prom stuff

Get her a manicure 8 is still to young to make a girl a women

Take her to the salon to get a manicure and pretty gel set. Go buy some press ons for later.

My 12 year old gets gel polish all of the time. I feel her general lifestyle is a bit rough for a set though. Depends on the kid

I take my 5 year old for mani pedis a few times a year but no gel or acrylics. I didn’t get my first set of acrylics til I was 18 and paid for it myself.

I would say grade 8 grad for fake nails.

My mom always took me and let me get them painted and a design but I didn’t start getting full sets until I was in high school

Because they should be little as long as they can don’t make them grow up to fast

Manicure and paint her natural nails. Maybe toss in a pedi for you both

7is is fine , we got my sister’s kids nails done at like 5 like gel first then they got the others but gek is perfect for this age bc the acrilic irritates the hands and my hands always hurt after and be hard to use them , but she is old enoff

Too young. Could damage her nail beds as she’s still growing.

Start with gel nails first then full set as she gets older

11 My daughter is 10 I will be taking her soon.

I didn’t allow my daughter to get full sets until her 12th birthday.

When she got a job and can pay for it herself.

If anything do dip nails with gel polish finsh.

Wouldn’t put nails on an 8 yr old

I’m 35 and never even gotten a set lol
Going to the salon and getting nails painted I say like 4, fake nails… Never

As a nail tech, 7 is way too young to put on acrylic nails. A gel mani, yes thats fine but acrylic no. The nails are still developing and it could potentially damage them as she gets older

For 8 the glue on ones are suffcient. However regular manicures are really nice for that age group

My daughter gets gel manicure

Just get a manicure. Let her enjoy her childhood. Plenty of time for that stuff in high school, I say.

I would as soon as possible just to have company there. Not fake nails until about 8? But still a nice mani pedi. Alas, I have boys.

Definitely too young. That’s crazy! Why would you even consider that. I started getting them in high school for dances (right of passage for freshman homecoming to be the first time) and ruined a couple of my nails by being WAY too rough on them and actually ripping off my real nail getting them caught on things instead of the acrylic nail popping off. It’s a painful bloody mess when it happens and they have never grown in right since then. I dont understand why anyone would think that was a good idea for a very young child… Get a manicure and some gel polish but no reason to do anything beyond natural nails.

Google suggests 16 for acrylics and 8 for mani

I’m a nail tech & I can tell you most places will not put acrylic on a child as it can cause alot of damage to their nail beds. Some techs would do it simply because there is money involved but id personally never work on as child that young. I allow my daughter who’s 11 to get manicures with gel polish because it’s not damaging. People can have really bad reactions to the chemicals and ingredients in the monomer and acrylic. Not to mention even short nails can rip off under the right circumstances. I honestly dont think any responsible nail tech or parent would allow an 8 year old to have acrylic nail enhancements.

16 for prom. But I spoil my daughter who is 5 and have her nails done a a salon. All her own nails with light pink polish.

I did an at home dip nail on my 9 year old to see how she liked it and i didnt do any tips or anything just put it over her real nail.

Painted any time. Acrylics 8th grade

I don’t think there’s technically an age limit at salons, the main issue is the techs can refuse service if they feel they could be held responsible if the child rips one off while playing, etc. You’re not going to be a terrible mother if you get them for her shrugs it’s really all a matter of opinion here. You know her maturity level, how she would treat them, etc for her age. If she grows out her natural nails a little you could even go the ANC dip powder route! That way there’s no glueing of tips or anything and she can still get that professional nail experience :relaxed:

My daughter gets her nails painted every 2 weeks and she is 5

Why not get her a dip manicure

Wouldn’t get her a set of false nails they ruin ur own nails but taking her to have gel polish would b good I think xx

Never. They’re toxic, full of chemicals and not safe at all. Vanity is for shallow people anyway. So she’ll never have make up or nails or any of that nonsense. Absolute waste of money too

Sorry, but acrylics for an 8 year old is ridiculous. Mani is the way.

8 year olds are still pretty young and irresponsible. Its gonna hurt if she wants to play and that thing rips her whole nail off. Every person in the history of having their nails done has had one ripped off or broken down to the nail bed. Maybe just getting her nails painted is enough

The nail salons have a certain age that they will do them until then they will just paint them…i believe it’s 12

Too young for acrylics still, and they’re horrible for your nails. But it could still be fun for her to go to the spa and get her nails painted by them.
Encourage her to grow her nails out so she doesn’t need fake nails

It’s 12 years in salons I’ve asked so many and they have all said the same.

No full sets. Just reg manicure

Maybe take her to get them painted. I wouldn’t put fake ones on that young though.

I think she would enjoy a simple manicure just as much.

Instead of going and paying all that for nails, check into getting stamps or the sticker nails. It is literally just a sticker with cool designes on them for nails.
A stamp kit you can use many times with all different colors. They have adult ones and kid ones.
I would rather stay home, spend a little less then go out and do something she might end up not liking.
Plus, most places have an age requirement, I believe

I wouldn’t let her get acrylic nails why not just take her and let her get them painted or something it’s still a fun girly experience.

I buy these for myself. They’re stick ons. And they’re pretty durable. I can keep them on for 2-3 weeks. And you just peel them off. I find them at Walmart in Canada.

I would do gel. Acrylics aren’t good really for any nails and I couldn’t imagine the pain of one ripping off of a kids nail. But take her!

How about a nice manicure & some bling with decent glue.

I wish I never had mine done. It ruined them for years already. However, a nice gel polish I think would be good for her.

Why would you put fake nails on a kid? What’s wrong with just nail polish?!! You will ruin her nails, there toxic not to mention the drill the pulling off . Come on ??? What’s wrong with people.Don’t ever do shellac or gel on a child either! For them to drill it off soak it off with acetone and them scrap it off come on.

does she bite her nails?

No decent nail tech will touch kids nails until there atleast 14 they will ruin her nails at 8
