What age do you think it's appropriate for girls to get their nails done?

I think acrylic should be something that waits until high school, end of 8th grade at the very earliest. Personally I think if you start allowing her to experience certain things to soon, she will grow up to fast, let alone the damage it’s going to do to her young fragile nails and the risk of her breaking one or getting it ripped off, plus the hygiene issues that could come with it if she doesnt wash her hands properly, idk to me it’s way to soon to even be thinking about stuff like this… My suggestion, let her stick to painting them, everyday if she wants and if she wants longer nails she can grow them out a but but that much chemical on her little hands seems to much and too grown up, let her be little.

My mom let me get my first set of acrylics my nails around that age, if you’re worried about her hurting her nail beds, get her a gel manicure, it will last just as long as acrylic :sparkling_heart:

i got mine done the first time in 5th grade

I didn’t get mine done until I was like 20. 8 is a bit too young. She can go and have them painted? But I’d stick to glue on nails until she’s at least a preteen. But your decision should be based on what you feel is right

When they can pay for acrylic nails they can have them, was my rule. Her nail beds could be damaged permanently.

A bought 13 y do u want your kids to grow up so fast

Never is when my mom would have done it

way too young. paint them at home with nail polish

My daughter has been getting pedicures and manicures since she was idk really young. She’s 7 now. Not the whole fake nails bit, nails are so tiny and fragile.

High school for fake nails but take her to the salon and let her pick the Polish color. It’s a totally fun experience. They can even do a design like a little flower.

Let her get a manicure and pedicure with polish.

To get acrylic nails? The age is when they are able to get a job and pay for fills on their own. Nail polish on little/young girls is cute. Stop letting your young daughters get fake nails. You’re allowing them grow up too fast.

Take her to a nail salon and get them to just paint her nails, I think she would still love the experience. And that wont ruin her nails

Her nails are not ready for Acrylic nails at 7. Perhaps just take her for a mom and me manicure with polish.

I used to take my girls for Mani/pedis in 1st grade but no fake nails just polish

I wouldn’t do fake, but take her for a mani pedi with just nail polish! She would love that!

I didn’t get mine done till around 12 when my step mother (at the time) took me

She’s too young for the acrylic nails…the process does too much damage to the nail & nail bed. Take her to the nail salon and get a manicure & pedicure…she’ll love it.

I took my then 9-year-old granddaughter to get her nails done. I just didn’t allow the acrylics and stuff. She wanted the experience of feeling grownup. She just got her nails pointed with polka dots. She loved it. It was fun to see her happy face to get all her nails done, then lunch in the summer dress I made her.

Just super glue the stick on ones if you are thinking about putting acrylic nails on her.

Theres no harm in it. Itll be a fun birthday with mom.

We let our 13 year old get acrylic for her 13th birthday. But not a repetitive thing. It’s been almost a year and she got them done a 2nd time a few weeks ago, but she paid for them herself with her allowance money. And they are short length, with basic color, nothing crazy! But at 7, that’s too young. Let her get a manicure and pedicure with just regular nail polish.

I let my daughter when she was 13… She turned out fine. Your the mom you make the roles how you see it best if you don’t feel comfortable take her to a nail salon and let them professionally paint them without the acrylic.

I take both my girls ( 10 & 7) to the nail salon to have manis done & have done so about once a year since they were 4, however, they do not get fake nails. They get to have their nails painted and looking pretty though They love it and it is good mother, daughter bonding time too.

Go let her get the gel nails done not acrylics…

You could take her to get her nails done and just get the gel polish.

My 8 yr old gets gel nails done I will not let her get acrylic because she can easily hurt her self or snap off a nail which is extremely painful. Plus, acrylics can damage and thin out your fingernails. I get my nails done frequently and take my daughter with me for a mani . You are the momma so you have the final decision but I think gel nails are the best way to go at this age.

Don’t do acrylic, do gel. :woman_shrugging:t2:

No. Just no. Let her get her regular nails and toes done. She’ll enjoy that experience with mom.

My daughter and I got our nails done together last year and she was 4. The nail tech just did the gel paint for her, I wouldn’t do acrylics until she’s like in her teens probably.

I would do a mani and pedi with shellac. My daughter is finally not biting her nails so they can get long and hse can get more designs done.

Never do fake on a child, but get her too look after her own and the paint and decorate them ones

You could do shellac which is the gel paint. I got my nails done once when I was 8 with gel nails and it took a long time to fix them after. But ultimately you are the mom and you shouldn’t base your parenting decisions off random parents on the internet

With how easily they can break off or even rip your fingernail off i wouldn’t. She’s still a kid who runs and plays so it would be likely to happen.

No. My mom wouldn’t let me get mine done til 13 and I’m thankful. When they rip off it could take her whole nail off.

You can paint them yourself anytime. The appropriate time for her to go to a salon and get a manicure would be special occasions starting about 13 then if she wants manicures more frequently, then the answer is when she has a job and can afford it. This is a luxury not a necessity

I would suggest gel nail polish, acrylic/fake nails will damage her nails badly at such a young age and there’s the risk of her breaking a nail and that hurts even for adults lol

I would just get her nails don’t at the salon but just a basic manicure the experience only should be more then enough :relaxed: she’s to young for that though big responsibility trying to hurt herself

I think 8 is too young. Instead, maybe a Mani/Pedi?

But the little ones from Walmart and do it at home they have kiddo sized ones

Gel paint … fake nails like 13 14

I (45 years old) tripped up with my acrylics on, new years eve and tore my whole natural nail bed off with the acrylic nail, I’ve never known pain like it (was a shortish style) it’s not even started growing back properly yet …

Oh gosh no. Just the upkeep alone. I always passed on what my mom said to me. When you can pay for them then you can have them… I take my 9 year old in for mani pedis but actually doing tips and filling them… nope.

My daughter started getting hers done at 7. She knows when they start to get on her nerves let me know and we go and have them removed.

Ima nail tech and I’ve done my girls starting in 8th grade. So around 13. They need to be able to keep them clean. Way to many germs under the nails if not taken care of properly. 8 is just to young. I have a 7 yr stepdaughter and mani n pedi are ok and recommended for now. My daughters are 20 and 12

It would damage her nail bed. Get a manicure instead

I didnt get my first set until i was 18. I used my own money. And im thankful i waited so long. Alot of girls my age have ruined yucky nails while mine grow ok with long periods of time between each set (i dont get them alot as i see it as a thing for special occasions)

Just paint the nails nothing eles. Nails are way to brittle for that

My salon wouldn’t do my daughters till she was ten.

You could get her color street nail strips. 100% real nail polish strips that are 95% dry…so many options, designs, colors…and they are in petite sizes!!

I would start with a Mani/pedi

Why would you wanna damage her natural nails??

Take her for a manicure and to have her nails painted. It’s fun to do stuff like that with your mom and learn how to care for your nails. As her nails grow she can get gel paints and use her natural nails.

I wouldnt do acrylics but maybe gel nail polish so it stays on longer

Just take her to a manicure with just nail polish… Im sure at that age she think that was fun enough. Without the extra of a nail set.

Id do gel paint. No acrylic. Gel is pretty resilient so it wont chip off like regular polish and will last a while. But its her own nails so they wont be too long or anything

I wouldn’t want to do anything more then nail painting until my daughter is 11 or 12.

i asked my nail person tht wont do anyone b4 12 yr old

My daughter doesnt get fake nails but I take her for manicures on our girl dates. She enjoys it. And i dont have to worry about one breaking.

I’ve taken my niece at 7 to get a basic manicure, she got her nails painted, cuticles trimmed, a hand soak/massage, and nail art but no fake nails

My daughter is 2 and she got her first pedicure for Christmas, I think you’re making a big deal about something that’s not. It’s just her nails, let the kid get her nails done :nail_care:

I wouldn’t get her a set but she could get her nails painted for sure.

How about just a french manicure? The ladies are right about acrylics damaging her nail beds.

Not acrylics but manicure yes, nail art. I still have a nail damaged from artificial nails. Found that ‘Perfect Nail’ really helped my nails grow stronger I am sure there are others out there too. It would be fun for her.

It depends on the child but I would say 12/13 at the youngest.

They are nails. Get them done. Leave them in and eventually they will fall off. They’re nails. Not life altering. And if she loves them then why not. It’s your kid, not the internet’s. Acrylic isn’t going to kill a 7 yo.

All these “perfect high horse” moms. The acrylic will not kill your child or her nail bed. You do what you want for your child.

I would not get her any false nails just in case they break. She will only be 8 so I’m guessing she plays a lot. Might be very painfully for her if she gets them caught or something. My daughter has had her nails painted with gel polish. It says on for a while and looks really nice

I was going to take my daughter when she is 8. Professional mani not acrylic though. I have weak enough nails with out that. I don’t want her going through the pain of ripping off a nail when she’s riding her bike

It’s her special day and what other way to make it so special than a trip to the nail salon with mama.

The world has gone MAD! Smh that is all.

A set? Like the powder? Hell no. A little manicure and some paint yes. I paint my daughters nails she’s four. Non toxic and shes a fidgeter so it’s always gone within a few days as she picks it off

I didn’t let my daughter get acrylics until like 11… she’s about to be 12 and when she gets them done she rips them off like a week later so it’s like wasting money. I don’t let my 8 year old get acrylics, pedi or mani I do but I still feel like she’s too little… but to each his own definitely. I don’t judge any other parent for doing it for their little, I just think she’s still too young for all that…

No way, she is too young. I’d do gel it lasts longer.

Mid-teen years. I see nothing wrong with you taking her for a manicure and even a pedicure, to the natural nail. Nail extensions are way too mature for a child that age in my opinion.ijs

I let my daughter at 11

Ive taken my daughter a few times. She is 7. She loves it. Is also a very nice girls day thing to do to do and get your nails done together :yellow_heart:

When they are old enough to pay for it.

My granddaughter is six and she has a standing appointment for this every two weeks

Most insurances won’t allow nail techs to work on under 16’s.
If they say they can do it, they’re not the kind of tech you want doing the job.

It does wreck them and can hurt alot. Plus i dont think schools allow them my girl just gets them in the holidays. If she still has them on and its school time the colour goes and they get clipped

Before you put nail polish or any other kind of chemicals on you or your children, research what your nails do, what they absorb.

I don’t reccomend the acrylics that they file down with the electric tools, but she could get a gel manicure. The filing process is too rough for her fragile nails.

My daughter is almost 11, since she was about 8 we have been having gel polish put on her little nails due to her having terrible hang nails.
It helps their nails grow out and they don’t get the damage from acrylics.
Plus the gel polish lasts forever!

My daughter was in kindergarten the first time. We have tried to do them at least once a year. We’ve done acrylic and just painting them at the salon.

I started taking my granddaughter to the nail salon when she was 4 years old. Before she would start biting her nails. No acrylics or gel. Just regular trims and shaping once a month and nail polish. Would do this as a reward after having a good week at school. By the time she was 10 her hands/nails could be photographed for magazines and at 20, her hands/nails are just beautiful. Again, could be a hands model.

I think that is way too young. Acrylics ruin your nails. I would say that when she can pay for them herself, then she is old enough.

Don’t do it. At 10 my stepdaughter’s mother let her start getting acrylic nails. She’s 16 now and already sick of them took them off and her real nails are soooooo damaged.

Omg she’s too little for the real ones, i most likely would be scared if my lil one hurts herself with them since the play with their friends in school, also affraid she can hurt other kids while playing . Also would it be school appropriate?? Anyways you can also take her to get a nice mani and add a pretty polish to her natural nails.

Take her to get her nails painted NO ACRYLICS. Gel polish lasts a long time, too.

Way to young false nails…you will ruin her little nails. But certainly take her for a youth Mani with polish! Fun girls day!!

My daughter is 5 and gets her nails painted all the time at the salon. But a full set?! 8 is way too young. I would say maybe 12, not sure excatly the age. I think I was in 7th grade (12) but I’ll deal with that as it comes… lol Maybe bring her to get a gel manicure so it lasts longer. But definitely not acrylic yet

Take her for a manicure… but not acrylic nails… she’s way too young. Her nail beds are still growing and developing.

She can get her nails PAINTED in a salon at 8, but actual acrylics?! :joy: wtf are you thinking? That’s ridiculously young. I’ve let my daughter get mani/pedi with me since she was about 7/8, but I’ve STILL never let her get acrylics and she’s 15. I would consider letting her now if she wanted them for a special occasion or something, but she’s 15 not 8.

I do not recommend acrylic nails for that age… you could do the shellac nail polish so that it stays on longer

8 is too young. What’s to look forward to if everything come so early. Save some things. Get them done for her prom. Until then use some sweet pink polish on her young self.

Way to young for acrylics. When she can pay for them on her own, she can get them. Manicure with polish should be enough at that age.

I personally would not allow a young girl to get a full set of acrylic nails until the age of 16. It can wreak havoc on your nails!
