So I go on July 31st to have my 4th and final baby. Via C-section. They are removing my tubes altogether. I was wondering if anyone else has had this done? Pros and cons? This will be my 3rd C-section. It’ll make my family evened out. I have two boys, and one girl and my little caboose is a girl. I’m officially done, DONE.
I got mine removed about a year ago. Nothing really changed for me besides not getting pregnant of course. Dr says it is more effective than just getting them tied you don’t have to worry about tubal pregnancy either.
Got mine removed after my last baby as well. No problems. And I was told it cuts down the risk of ovarian cancer by almost half.
I’ve known a couple ladies that just got them cut and tied and the tubes grew back. If you are sure sure your done. I would get them removed. The difference other than the slim chance of growing back would be that the procedure cannot be reversed.
I had a section of my tubes removed and my youngest baby is now 25. The oldest is 29. Haven’t had any problems or pregnancy scares in those 25 years so I’d say it’s an effective procedure lol.
I had my tubes cut tied burnt years ago. In January I had my uterus and tubes removed along with a prolapse repair. So far no problems and no more periods. They say it reduces your risk of cancer also.
I got mine removed about 3 years ago. The procedure hurt more than I had expected and took several days off of work. Other than that, it’s been fine.
My cousin had her 5th baby 2 months ago via csection and had her tubes removed…I dont talk to her so I have no clue on how it’s going recovery wise
I had mine removed on june 30th…no problems so far
I had mine removed after my third c-section. Only complaint I have is my periods now. The cramps are horrible and I bleed extremely heavy.
I had mine tied sept 2018, after 3rd C-section/4th kid. The healing process was a little different. I swear I could feel where they cut them. I still randomly get idk phantom pains from it. But I do not regret my decision at all and would 100% DO IT AGAIN.
I had mine removed in June. The 1st couple of days I was sore but that was it. No problems at all
Had mine removed with my last c section almost 2 years ago. No problems here my period is a bit heavier but thats it.
I’m having mine removed after this pregnancy and from my Dr. & research, a huge pro is that your ovarian cancer risk will drop significantly as most cases derive from the tubes themselves.
I had mine removed 5 years ago. My periods are a bit heavier now, but I think that mostly has to do with not being on birth control anymore. No other issues.
I’m on my 4th and final kiddo as well 2 boys got 1 girl and this one is a girl. I’m having my tubes done. My doctor told me that they usually just remove the tubes completely I am not okay with that as the women in my family go thru horrible periods and horrible menopause. I am sticking with just having them tied nothing else no burn or cut. The failure rate for just tied is about 5% I’ll take those odds.
I had mine removed 3 weeks ago along with uterine ablation. Pros of tube removal, no more pregnancies or bc! Pros of ablation, just finished my first period since the procedure and it was practically non existent. That’s huge for me because I generally had awful, heavy periods and bc never went smoothly for me.
If you only have your tubes “tied” you could still get pregnant, and could have them untied. By removing the tubes, you will not get pregnant and cannot get them undone.
Even with a tubal removal there is a chance of your tubes growing back
I had mine removed only issue is my periods are wayyy heavier and I get more cramping
It took a week for the pain to go away but that’s because I don’t have a high pain tolerance . I was literally in tears because their pain meds weren’t working after that I was fine only issue is and I don’t know if it’s related but haven’t had my period in 2 months now and I had my surgery back in October
I had my tubes removed when my daughter was born via c-section 4 years ago. No issues at all!
I had mine removed after my 5th baby. I didn’t have a c-section so I had to go into surgery so I cant compare to c-section recovery but I have no issues from it and it didn’t affect my periods at all.
On another note, do we have to have a bunch of children before they’ll do it? I’ve got 1 kid and only want one more. I’ll be 26 before the next is ever born if that matters.
I had mine removed in Feb after my fifth baby was born. No issues to report this far. I havent gotten my period back yet, because I’m nursing…
Having my tubes tied is the best decision I’ve ever made
I had mine removed during the C-section with my 3rd baby. I didn’t notice anything different with healing. I was up and walking almost normal the 2nd day. My periods have actually gotten better since I got them done. No regrets.
I had mine removed was sore but still taking care of my 2 year old & 2 month old with little help for the first 2 days. By the 3rd I was up running around at a cook out, shopping. Best part is NO MORE KIDS!! I love my two little beans but no need for anymore 10/10 RECOMMEND
I had mine taken out 3 1/2 months ago and I haven’t had anything adverse affects from it yet.
I had mine removed with my last c-section. Healing was a breeze since I was already healing from the c section. Definitely have heavier periods though and they last longer. I had to go back On birth control strictly to control the bleeding a bit better.
Thank you for all your answers! I was worried about really bad periods and heavier bleeding. I was also hoping the recovery wouldn’t be any “extra” or different then just having a section. Another question… How much longer was your surgery?
I’m getting my tubes removed the beginning of Aug.
Is it realistic to have them take your uterus out as well?? Is that a thing?? Like why do I need to have periods if I’m not having babies anymore?
Just had mine removed April 13th with my 3rd baby. I think the pros are it lowers risk for cancer as well as no tubal pregnancies. So for me yayyy! Still not on a normal menstrual schedule since just 13 weeks, but I am so relieved it is done!
When people.say they have heavy periods I wonder if it’s because they are no longer on birth control and not necessarily the removal? We shall see!
I had this done I’m not sure about pros and cons but the doctor did say that it lowers your risk of developing ovarian cancer because it develops at the end of the tube. I healed very quickly but I didn’t have the c section on top of it. Very minimal scaring for me.
I had mine tied, then had horrible periods. Back in for an ablation. Periods gone. I had cysts on my ovaries and when they went in to remove them, the doctor didn’t like how my tubes looked and took both. No issues, just some scar tissue that causes some pain from time to time.
I also had 3 c-sections and tubes cut but enough to where I could not reverse it. Only thing for me was that my periods were much more painful but less time. Eventually but I mean by decades they started lasting more than 7 days and frequently. I eventually had to have a hysterectomy. So much happier now. I was 26 when I had tubes tied and 45 when I had hysterectomy.
I would have loved to had a removal or hysterectomy but the hospital I delivered at was a Catholic hospital (I’m not) and they refused to do it for religious reasons. Even though I had complications during my csection and had to be put under.
Do it. I had no trouble. My crazy body ( I had trouble) carrying babies. I was told that I would not have any kids before I stopped production of eggs. So when my youngest was a year old I had I went through the change, at the age of 26.
I had my tubes burnt after my 4th child, and 2 yrs later had a robotic hysterectomy. I had cysts on my ovaries and lots of pain so the doctor recommended a hysterectomy- leaving my ovaries…so I wouldn’t be thrown into full menopause. I’m only 36. I had surgery when I was 33. The surgery was not good, but afterwards I have no complaints.
I had mine tied or cut and burned. Not removed totally but still the same after my last baby in 2012. Little more recovery but best decision if you are done. No more worries. Everything still works fine each month without the worry of pregnancy.
I had my tubes removed about 5 years ago. I had REALLY heavy and painful periods after. Its gotten better over time. I have always had horrible pms so idk about that. But i wish i would have researched it- i just absolutely didnt want anymore babies lol
I have a family history of female cancers and removing the tubes decreases the chances of ovarian cancer(per my dr) …so I had my tubes removed completely along with an ablation. It was a super quick recovery with no issues and close to no painful periods anymore at all!!
I had mine removed about a year and a half ago day after having my last baby. They told me after 5 years there was a .001% chance of having another baby naturally depending how your body heals itself. Anyways my periods have actually gotten lighter but more painful
I had my tubes completely removed after my second c-section. My obgyn said that removing the whole tube lowers your risk of cancer in the future. I haven’t had any new issues. I always had heavy bleeding and that continued after getting my tubes out so I ended up having an ablation done also.
I had mine totally removed. My dr said it lessons your chance of getting ovarian cancer greatly and that he wishes more doctors encouraged removal instead of getting them tied. I had it done a year after my last baby but have no scares from it.
My Doctor suggested it as an option after my scheduled c/s. I researched online and found people had either no/minimal problems or a number of lasting physical issues and regretted it. I didnt feel the risk was worth it and opted not to have it done.
I had mine removed along with an ablation. Best decision I ever made. My periods are lighter, almost non existent, and painless
My tubes had to be removed due to cysts (one baseball size). I was in excruciating pain before they did the surgery and the pain there is gone and I no longer had to worry about getting pregnant. ( had 15 pregnancies before; 3 live births, 1 still born, the rest were miscarriages). Yes I tried all birth control and they did not work on me.
I had mine removed 3 years ago with my csection. No issues here. Most women see heavier periods and more cramping. My doctor said that alot of women end up going on birth control because of it. So far it is manageable for me. Haven’t noticed much of a difference than my periods before.
I have regular cycles, and they are not heavy…and no worries of having any more kids, i had my tubes removed, hardly no pain at all, and sometimes minor cramping during my period, but its the best choice i ever made
Pro’s are no cervical cancer and no more surprises lol. The cons with me is that I get nauseous now, it’s like I am pregnant. My bleeding is different but it’s good because I only bleed for 3 days now, my periods always have been heavy so that didn’t change. Everyone is different though so it’s best to talk to your Dr who knows your body already.
Pros NO BABIES Cons for me personally my periods cramps are so awful now
Sounds like a great idea… A lot of people have had this done and at least that I know with no complications
I had mine removed wren I had my c section with my twins and my first couple periods were heavy but they’ve even out and my twins are 1. I have noticed cramps are not painful but bearable, occasionally I take medicine for them but not regularly
I planned to have it done with my csection but the doctor said there was so much bleeding he couldn’t had to close. So they may not be able to do it. You may have to schedule later
All 3 of my kids were born via c section and getting my tubes tied was the biggest mistake ever in a way. I get the worse cramps ever. (I got my last c section 14 years ago)
I had 4 of my kids by c section and on my last one they took parts on each side of my tubes out so I’m done also …I don’t really have a con on it tho I mean I haven’t gotten pregnant of course and my period comes like every month but my first day in hospital I bled but then stoped for a whole month maybe more and now I come every month
My daughter is 5 months now so so far pretty smooth recovery was smooth no different feelin then healing from section …so he honestly it’s pretty good .
I had mine completely removed when I was 23 after my 3rd baby. I am so glad I did. Pro: No more babies Cons: My period got heavier or more painful but the Pros out weigh the cons lol
I had it done almost 8 years when my twins were born via c-section. My periods were pretty heavy for about 4-5 years after and I had some cramping I did not have previously. Now it is fine. It was a great decision, though I didn’t feel that way in the beginning.
I had mine removed Nov 26, 2019, doc suggested removal because it reduces the risk of cancer. My periods are either very light or very heavy. Prior they were always heavy. Overall I haven’t noticed any issues yet. Recovery sucked a lil more than usual (also 3 csections) but I was also recovering from severe pre-e and hellp syndrome. Overall I wouldn’t go back and change my mind.
I had mine done at the same time as my 3rd c-section, I had no after effects, just the usual bit of discomfort with a section and I’ve never regretted it, that was 6 years ago xx
I had mine done with my last baby, she’ll be 1 in November, anyway the recovery was super fast and no real problems since, heavier bleeding with the first three periods after having her and then nothing out of the ordinary. Just remember everyone heals differently.
I have my tubes removed 2 yrs ago with my last baby!! It was during c section. Didnt have any problems and never regretted it
I had mine removed a few years ago and it is so nice to not have to worry about getting pregnant or taking birth control. However, my periods have been very heavy since having my tubes removed. I did not get my period prior to having my tubes tied because I had an IUD so I think that might be why it’s so heavy now.
I just had mine removed after my second cesarian on June 8. I’ve not experienced any cons except I had moments of regret afterwards, this is totally common and it went away just as quickly as it came on so if you experience that, do not fret, it’s a common reaction that will subside.
I got it done a year ago this month. Very little scar. Was off for a we. A little soar first few days but I didn’t think it was bad. I’m happy I did it. Helps reduce risk of cancer and no chance of pregnancy. I do still get my periods regularly. Doc told me that wont stop til menopause. Oh well. I had no issues. Went good and get to leave same day
I had it done 2 years ago. I’m glad I did. I also had an ablation done, but it reversed and I never stopped having periods.
I had my tubes removed at the end of May, it took about a week for me to stop hurting. It hasn’t changed my periods or anything. I’m all healed and am not in any pain now… Just make sure its what you want. If you do get it done. Make sure you take the doctors advice and lay in bed for the first week days so you can heal. Only lift if you have to. I made the mistake of doing stuff too soon which caused me to hurt longer than I shouldve
I think you would have to ask your Dr., I got mine tied in conjunction with my 2nd child’s c-section. I was 42 and didn’t want anymore children or to deal with being on the pill. I also didn’t want to go back in for another procedure. My periods are light, just some times I have a quick cramping which could be eggs trying to release, but its never bad.
My first 2 csections were boys. My last 2 were girls via C-section. I had my tubes removed also n so far the only thing I’ve had an issue with is insicion healing but I can’t take it as easy as I probably should of at first especially with her being a preemie. Good luck momma hope it all goes smoothly
I had my tubes removed. It was honestly a harder recovery than my c-sections. I also ended up with a super heavy cycle.
I absolutely love my decision to get my tubes removed, I had complex cysts and when they would burst I’d be in extreme pain and double over to where I couldnt walk, I haven’t had that issue since…my periods were about normal and actually regular, whereas before they werent…my only issue is my sex drive has gone through the roof:woman_facepalming:
I have mine remove for over a decade now and I wouldn’t change it. I heal pretty fast and no problems. Everyone is different, but as for me it was the best choice.
I am getting my tubes tied with my 4th csection in October, for some reason my obgyn will not completely remove them which is what I wanted.
I had EVERYTHING removed at 34. I always had EXTREMELY HIGH estrogen levels which caused debilitating migraines and made my periods HELL…equivalent to endo hell. So when I had it done, it was for 3 reasons…NO MORE KIDS, no more migraines and no more periods. I have not had any of them since a week before my surgery AND I don’t take any hormone replacements because there are glands besides the ovaries that produce estrogen…and mine keep my levels perfect. Having your tubes removed won’t cause anything other than the inability to release eggs so you will not get pregnant again and won’t have to use contraception anymore. You’ll still be lucky enough to have periods, tho! I’d ask to have the useless uterus to be take , as well…no more periods! LOL!
I think they removed most of my tubes and my periods are definitely heavier.
I had a tubal ligation after my 4th child and it gave me heavy bleeding, sometimes so heavy that ended with blood clots, painful period, migraine, etc. Plus I have history of uterine cancer in my family. That’s why almost a week ago I had an hysterectomy and the removal of my Fallopian tubes. I kept my ovaries.
Honestly youre better off getting everything removed or just tying them. I’ve worked with people before who ended up in the hospital from periods and random bleeding after having just their tubes removed
2017 I had them removed and endometrial ablation on my uterus. Pro - zero periods, Con - perimenopause kicked in so there was some hormonal adjustment that took place, and weight gain. Other than that I have no complaints
I had mine removed with my last csection back in 2016. Best decision ever. I had a little more pain during recovery than I did after my first csection but no issues since.
I had mine removed in 2016. I haven’t had any issues with pain or cramping. My periods do get off trck sometimes but nothing major!
I had my tubes tied back in 2007 after my 3rd child got them untied 2017 and had my 4th child 2019 then got my tubes removed not wanting to chance having the idea to have another I’m getting old lol but it was the best thing I did no complications n best way of birth control…
I had my tubes cut and tied and had awful periods afterwards. I was “on” 3 weeks out of 4.
I was then fitted with a Marina coil ( not sure of spelling) and periods disappeared completely.
I haven’t had a period in about 15 years.
I had a total hysterectomy and I’ve not had any issues whatsoever. No periods, hot flashes hasn’t been too bad. I’d definitely do it again.
I had a hysterectomy 4 years ago when my last child was 1. I’ve always had bad periods and doctor was sure I had endometriosis. After test my OB found out my uterus never went back to normal and was 3 times the size it’s suppose to be. He removed my uterus and tubes. Best decision I ever made. He did leave my ovaries cause he didn’t want me on hormone replacements at 33. In pre op I did find out there was a cyst on my left ovary and if it was still there he was gonna remove just the one ovary. It was gone so it stayed, but i know I’ll be back to get them removed cause I still get cyst. I also did have endometriosis.
I had my tubes tied an had excessive bleeding every month then they did a procedure thinning lining of my uterus made things worse ended up getting hysterectomy but kept my ovaries felt like a new woman and had no problems after that.
So I just had mine removed with my last baby on march 27th. I have only had 1 period since and it was pretty heavy but it was also the first one. So we will see. But so far nothing strange
I had my baby May 4th, and I’m scheduled for a tubal ligation August 6th… Has anyone experienced weight gain? I’m on Depo, currently, and I have gained weight and not stopped bleeding. I’m worried that this may make things worse?
I had my tubes clipped, tied and seared 50 years ago. No problems and have not regretted it on bit.
I had my tubes removed after my daughter who is about to be 1 this month. I have no complaints about it. I didnt have very much pain but i also did not have a c-section. I still have regular periods
I had mine removed after my forth child about eighteen months ago. It’s super nice to never have to worry about getting pregnant. I’ve had zero side effects.
I had a complete hysterectomy including tubes I also had 5 kids and 3 miscarriages I had the worst problem periods ever so at 43 had it done best think ever
I had mine removed also I had two girls and then finally got my boy I’m absolutely 100% happy that I had it done there were no complications. Since all three of mine were C-sections
I’m 27 and 39 weeks and 3 days along . I have a scheduled csection Friday unless I go into labor before. I’m getting mine removed . I’m sure my body will hate me but I do not want another baby. I hate being pregnant this is my 3rd (gave my first up for adoption) and 2nd child I’ll be mommy too. No more
I had mine removed almost 3 years ago. Went back to work a week later (light work). No complaints.
I had my last child a little over 5 months ago via c-section, and had my tubes removed. My Dr. recommended it, due to lessening the chances of cancer. My periods were heavy, and painful before. I am still nursing and have yet to have my cycle, so I am curious as to how they will be once I start getting them again. I couldn’t imagine them worse then before…I’m praying that won’t be the case!
I dont know about pulling them out entirely. But I had my tied. Have the most horrible cramps when ever my period comes
I’m pregnant with baby #4 (unexpected) and struggle with extremely complicated high risk pregnancies (severe preeclampsia, preterm births, placental abruption, & gestational diabetes). I can’t take the pill bc of my high blood pressure which remained high after baby 3 was born. So my doctors and I decided to remove my tubes once this baby is born. Removing them decreases the risk of developing ovarian cancer from what they told me. I’m not sure the risks but for me this was the best course of action to take to prevent future pregnancies.
Never had tubes fully removed. But I had them clamped. One of my clamps came off and it was terrible pain. I got the clamps removed. I also got my tubes reconnected February 4th and I am having a baby in November. I had nothing but problems with the clamps and would never recommend them.
I had a partial hysterectomy it’s great not having a period & no hormones to take. I only wished I would have had 1 more
