What are your thoughts on the flu vaccine this year?

yes, absolutely necessary every year but this year even more so!! Flu vaccine can be lifesaving in children.

I never get it and neither does my 4 year old

Well in my experience this past winter I was pregnant so my midwife highly recommended I get it. I usually didnā€™t in the past, but I would get sick every winter, I had heard so much negativity about the vaccine , thatā€™s why I wouldnā€™t get it. So to my surprise this past yr that I got it I didnā€™t get sick at all w cold or flu. :woman_shrugging:t4: Same w my son.

Nope and never will!

More times than notā€¦ Youā€™ve already got the flu virus when you got the shot if you ā€˜get sick from itā€™ so the shot wouldnā€™t have helped you anyway. :woman_shrugging:t3:
Butā€¦ With all that saidā€¦ With me anyways, I usually get the flu regardless if I get the shot or not any year. It only covers like 4-5 different strands of the virus and there are more than a hundred. So I donā€™t even bother. There are people who argue with me on this. Always telling me that maybe I have a weak immune system, but Iā€™m pretty sure itā€™s just the fact that I always get a certain stand that the shot doesnā€™t cover :tipping_hand_woman:t3::tipping_hand_woman:t3:.
So itā€™s really a personal choice I guess. Do what feels right for you and your baby.

We always get our flu shots

All of my children get the flu vaccine every yearā€¦just alternate motrin and tylenol before and after giving the vaccine

Never have and neither have my kidsā€¦to each their own thoā€¦:woman_shrugging:

Children under the age of 5 tend to get sick more because their immune systems are developing and maturing. With all the nasty stuff they put into vaccines I steer clear of them.

I finally got my doctor to admit that " yes there is a small cold virus in the flu vaccine" he said thatā€™s how it works. He wasnā€™t happy about admitting it because heā€™s heard people talking about it so much

My grandkids get the flu shot every year l think itā€™s worth it just also give them Sambolcal it boost there immune system to

My 4 year old had the flu shot the first year after she was born. After that, none. My 2 year old hasnā€™t gotten the shot. I havenā€™t ever gotten the shot. We all ended up with the flu this spring. Butā€¦this is the Only year we have Ever had the flu. So I choose not to get vaccines for my family and I.

It is a live vaccine, so yes it will make you sick as your body produces antibodies. It is also the last seasons flu as they canā€™t mutate it in the lab like it will naturally in humans. I have never had it and I have only had the flu maybe 5 times in my life (Iā€™m now 34)
The only vaccines anyone really needs is whooping cough and polio the rest our body can deal with pretty well if you hydrated ectā€¦ but weight up the risk for yourself.

Unless you are actively allergic to the flu shot, there is no reason you shouldnā€™t get it. Even if it is made ineffective on a given year, it can still reduce the severity of the flu should you catch it. The flu can kill. The flu vaccine cannot give you the flu. The more people vaccinated, the better chance your kid has of not getting it. Just because no one in your family has ever gotten the flu, doesnā€™t mean youā€™re impervious to it. Iā€™ve never gotten cancer or covid, but if they make an even somewhat effective vaccine for either of those, imma get that bitch. Youā€™re a fool not to, unless your doctor tells you otherwise. Like, your actual doctor, who went to an actual accredited medical school ā€“ not Crystal from down the street, with her 10 cats, who swears her essential oils can cure your kidā€™s ADHD. Talk to an actual doctor about it, not a Facebook doctor.

Thereā€™s a lot of misconception with the flu shot. A lot of people have a mild allergic reaction to it and thatā€™s why they experience a lot of symptoms with it. Iā€™ve gotten the mist when I was told I had an allergy to something in the shot but now I donā€™t get anything and I think Iā€™ve been healthier

Yes. Please get it. Protect your baby.

Flu shot for sure, I always get my kids flu shots. I get one too. They are better than most of the BS food everyone likes to survive on. Less risky than traveling in a car. Hell yeah flu shots!

I dont get my kids the flu shot or myself.

My whole family gets a flu shot every year! Just think if you get the flu and covid at the same time! Plus my hubs and son both have asthma my son has a lower immune system than the rest of us. We spent a week in the hospital last Nov bc a cold turned into pneumonia and he had to have 3 different antibiotics and his o2 dropped super low it took 4 days for his o2 to return to somewhat normal! Iā€™m not taking any chances with my sons life! His pulmonary specialist doesnā€™t want to see him hospitalized again. So yes we always get our flu shot as a family in October.

My kids and neither my husband or my self have ever had a flu shot, and never will !!

If she gets sick from it then it is uselessā€¦

No thanks injection full stopšŸš«

I refuse to give the flu vaccine to my son the last two years cause he still got the flu anyways when he got the vaccine but when he hasnā€™t had it he hasnā€™t had it so

The one time my kids and I got the flu vaccine, we all got the flu for like an entire month. Ever since weā€™ve been healthy. Thatā€™s the one shot we donā€™t do.

The flu shot is not effective for you NOT to get the flu. It makes it so if you do get the flu, it has less of an effect on you symptom wise and the life of it only lasts 3 to 5 days VS 7-10 days.

People need to do their research.

Last years flu strain was only 10% effective. This year will probably be less. As the flu and common cold typically mutate and the shots are not a one shots covers all strands.

I have never gotten the flu shotā€¦in my lifeā€¦i can think of twice i had the puking stomach flu bad enough to knock me on my butt. Never had the upper respiratory flu. What i did used to get was bronchitis every yr. No shot for that but in my later adult life even that has gone away. My kids dont get the flu shot either. We let our bodies fight the virus every yr. We may have a couple days we feel off but never really get full blown sick. Soā€¦i skip the flu shot. Its based on the yr befores virus and an educated guess as to what it will mutate to in the next yr. The last 2 yrs were epic FAR misses. My grands had the flu shot and had both influenza A and B. Our pharmacist and his wife had the flu shot and they both had flu A and B. The shot wasnt even close to the actual mutation and was totally useless. Up to each person whether you get it or not but since its a miss more yrs than not we just choose to not get it.

I was always sick with the flu as a kid. Id miss weeks of school due to being sick. When I was pregnant for my daughter my dr suggested I get the flu shot. We now all get our flu shot every single year and never ever get the flu. My daughter will be 16 and has never had the flu. I am 34 and havenā€™t had it since I was 17. My son will be 2 and hasnā€™t gotten the flu and my husband will be 39 tomorrow and hasnā€™t gotten the flu in years.

The flu vaccine you get this year will be based on the strain that hits Australia- as our seasons are backwards. Last year was an odd year- typically we start with influenza A which is what the vaccine is for and then later in the season we get influenza B. However last year we got hit with influenza b first and thus even those who did get their flu shot still ended up sick. Its not bc the vaccine doesnā€™t work its bc the strains came at different times.

So yes, its worth it. And with Covid why chance it?

No. Our family doesnā€™t get the flu shot and never had the flu. We boost our immune systems with washing hands, vitamins (c, zinc and elderberry).

I donā€™t vaccinate my children at all. They are way more healthier without it.

If everyone is wearing masks and they protect you from the virus and the flu is a virus then why would I need a shot?

My kids have never had 1. Neither have I.

How are kids going to get it?

My girls always get the flu vaccine.

My kids donā€™t get the flu shot. One is 8 and hasnā€™t had one since she was about 5 the other is 19 months and hasnā€™t had one. My oldest had the flu once.

We all get ours ever year in the past 12 years the flu has only hit our household once all four of us got it we were symptomatic about three days and fully recovered in five so we will always get ours

Iā€™ve never gotten it.

This is a very controversial topic and you are going to hear strong opinions on both sides. Being a health professional and having my family get the shot every year, I think this year is especially important.
