What causes heavy periods?

Does anyone deal with bad periods? They are always heavy. I have to keep feeling like I have to pee. My legs are killing me, and I have the worst restless legs Idk what to do. And whenever I ovulate, I’m in pain for three days. I made an appt w a new Obgyn bc I want answers, but what can I do to help relieve the pressure and restless legs.

I have a small weighted blanket that really helps restless legs and provides some pressure on my back/stomach which helps me!

Uterus Fibroids cause heavy bleeding. Check with your GYN.

Did you just give birth? I went through the same thing for about 6 months after giving birth through csection. Had ultrasound & urine test done but all clear. Best to check with gyn or gp.

When my legs are restless I have to put a pillow between my knees.

Have you had a tubal ligation? My periods used to be light, short and simple. Then I had a tubal after my youngest daughter. For 7 years my period progressively got worse. Heavy bleeding, clotting, I couldn’t touch my boobs. Instead of some light stomach cramping, my whole body was sore and achy. And instead of lasting 2-4 days, it was 7-14 days. I had an IUD inserted. Now, my boobs get a little tender and I get some mild cramping around when I should get my period, but I don’t bleed anymore and those issues only last a day.

Try a magnesium supplement a week before period starts and try and eat a low carb diet too. Both of these helped me a lot . Below is the magnesium potassium supplement I’ve been using

Restless legs run in my family so of course when i was pregnant it got worse, then after i had my son I went to my doc and told her about my legs and told her how heavy my periods were and she immediately said your iron is low. So have your doc order blood work, also while pregnant my doctor said when your legs act up like that can also be a sign of you being tired. Which at the time i worked night shift. If iron supplements don’t work then i would suggest getting a referral to see a specialist. My grandfather and my mother have it very severe.

Check out Adenomyosis, sounds like a lot of the issues you have…naproxen helps heaps.

I have 6 different Fibroids different sizes at the beginning it was not bad my after I had my son they got bigger and my periods are heavy, very painful and uncomfortable.

When my period got super heavy, my doctor told me to take 800mg of ibuprofen every 4 to 6 hours. It helps to lighten it. As far as the leg cramps, I take an OTC pill called Leg Cramps and they help. They have quinine in them which is in tonic water. I have the implant birth control and it has helped so much but it isn’t for everyone. I would be crazy without it.

Take B12 sublingual ( cherry flavored devolves under tongue) I take a couple before bed every night for restless leg! This works too and it sounds crazy but put an open bar of soap :soap: under your bed covers at your feet :foot: it’s crazy but it works!!! Your losing a lot of blood I’m sure you’re anemic so def cause of restless leg

Need appointment, could be endometriosis…I had it also & had tumors, had a total hysterectomy at 36. Solved that problem. Everyone has to make their choices …

Mine were heavy but no Endo, no cysts, no nothing. Just a heavy pd. Decided to have a hysterectomy and fixed the problem completely.

The restless legs might be from a low ferritin level from the extra blood loss Ask your Ob to check it.

Be examined for fibroids. I have several and they continue to grow and contribute to my heavy periods. For your leg issue, try drinking more water and eating bananas for the potassium. You may also be anemic. Get examined by your doctor and also consider your sugar levels and salt in take.

Endometriosis I have it. I don’t have the heavy periods but I have everything else. I would research it and talk to u Dr.

Could be fibroids. Could be endometriosis. Could be Policystic Ovarian Syndrome. It could also be a combination. Your Gynecologist needs to do blood work, a pelvic exam and a pelvic ultrasound.

Sounds like me at that age, a friend suggested I take evening primrose oil. I did wow what a difference it made. Sometimes restless legs can be caused through low iron in your system. I took that too. The swiss ones seemed to work for me. Hope that is some help.

I had pain pressure and bleeding suddenly in my forties, it was a fibroid which also caused anemia. Please get checked out thoroughly, including a pelvic sonogram. :pray:t2::heartpulse:

Evening primrose oil, start with 1000mg for a month and increase monthly 500mg until 3000mg. That and the pill and Quinine were the only things that worked on a longterm basis. Do get it checked its not anything serious first.

Fibroid cysts caused me so much pain but a hysterectomy solved that for me. Someone told me a bar of soap in your bed down by your feet help with rls, never tried it myself

Warm pads on your lower abdomen
ibuprofen helps a lot with cramping.

Where knee high compression socks they make a world of difference. I where everyday at work to help my tired restless legs.

I have PCOS and that’s my problems.

Potassium supplement for your legs (bananas don’t have as much as people think) and iron because you could be losing a lot if you have a super heavy flow. Most of my pain is in my back, so I use an ice pack (heat will cause your inflammation to worsen and cause more pain).

Restless leg syndrome sometimes caused by artificial sweeteners. Stick to real sugar and see if it helps.

Magnesium citrate.it can help with restless legs as well as help lessen the pain and heavy flow of a period. Take it daily and twice a day when you have a period coming. Drink plenty of water, heating pads are your best friend

Take magnesium, and iron. I’m going to hospital for an ablation next month. Over the heavy bleeding!

Could be fibroids. I had problems with my legs as a result of fibroids that caused the heavy bleeding which caused the anemia

I have endometriosis and adenomyosis. The adenomyosis causes my heavy period and painful cramps and horrible leg cramps. I would definitely check into what’s going on. No one believed me just told me it was a heavy flow and cramps can be bad. I finally made them do an ultrasound and got a new ob and he found the adenomyosis.

I ended up getting a partial hysterectomy from that issue

I have a weighted blanket that helps me with restless legs.

I get pain with ovulation it’s Called mittelschmerz Mittelschmerz - Symptoms and causes - Mayo Clinic

Magnesia for your legs, get the spray one and massage it in morning and evening, you will notice a difference after the first time you use it, I swear by it

First off, suggest you have a full blood work up done including FSH and TSH levels. Is also suggest, keep a good monthly calendar for a couple of months of your pain, bleeding, and stress level. You’re new provider hopefully will do some different types of ultrasounds and maybe even an exploratory laparoscopy to take care of any issues seen on the ultrasound and to look for endometriosis. There is no need for any woman to experience what you are. But you do need to be persistent and give as much information as you can. I have endometriosis, PCOS, have had 11 laps, and the last one was ablation.

This happened to me after I had my tubes tied. Just recently went in birth control pills and it has helped tremendously

Total Hysterectomy The only way mine Stopped

I had really bad menses since I had my first period. Couldn’t feel my legs, doubled over in pain, restless legs, etc. Birth control helped a lot - didn’t feel a thing. Also hot tea and a heating pad helps.

Ignore people saying hysterectomy- thats a bit excessive

Sounds like you have low iron from blood loss, cysts and fibroids can cause heavy bleeding go see your doctor. I drink pickle juice eat olives and take iron tabs for restless legs

Dr had prescribed me 800 mg Tylenol. It helped a little but not alot.

Sounds like Endometriosis…Im stage 4… It would be a good idea to make and appt to get checked for it and get in to speak with your doctor asap… because the longer you wait the worse it will get I’ve been on my monthly for 24 days straight and it’s HEAVY and just ugh frikkin sucks.

For RLS increase your potassium (bananas) & use a heating pad or sock filled halfway with rice & microwaved for about a minute. Heat relieves the constant sensation to move & “kicking”. Idk how old you are but can you possibly be entering menopause? I had these exact symtoms for 6 years following the birth of my son then my period just stopped.

Mine are like this because of uterine fibroids

Fibroids in the uterus. I finally got a hysterectomy when I was 40. I did get some pills from the Dr. for the discomfort.

You will get a million opinions here and none of them count. Only your doctors opinion counts. I hope this can be resolved and your comfort restored.

Do you have endometriosis?

Leg Cramp pills by Hyland they are all natural

Get checked for PCOS.

Get checked by a Dr, ask them questions

Shame ths is a bad one. Mine was bad from the start painful as hell. I had cysts, endo, and eventually at 22 had to hav an ovary removed. It hasn’t helped much. Just tryim to live thru it. Im 31 now and waiting till doc says im old enuf for a hysterectomy.

Talk to your Doctor…

Magnesium, hot pad or hot rice sock, naps, acupuncture

You may need a thermal ablation if you are bleeding super heavy every month…this will make you have "normal " periods, or even stop them for awhile. Ask your Obgyn about it. I had to have one and is was a miracle for me.

I wonder how I don’t bleed to death my first 3 days.

A heating pad might help.

I suffered with this. Kept getting worse and found nothing was causing it. Ended up being badly anaemic.

I have same problem

Endometriosis and anaemia

Megan Palmer your hill :joy:

What sort period containment are you using? As I’ve seen a few things suggesting that any internal measures such a tampons or moon cups can cause more severe period cramps. And period pants and/or inserts can lessen the pain. Xx

I experienced similar symptoms, along with fatigue.
I think the feeling of flooding was the most disturbing, I have a high pain threshold due to hEdS.
Turned out I a large fibroid (it was the size of a grapefruit).
Had it fixed with a simple procedure that involved squirting tiny bit of glue into the main blood vessel feeding the growth. The bits stuck together, blocking the arteries, and starving it.
It just withered up, broke apart and came out in bits with the next few periods.
It was fascinating, and I was able to watch the whole procedure on a monitor.
I’m still slightly anemic, and probably will be for the rest of my life, but I take iron supplements and no longer experience the fatigue or the pain

I was having heavy periods, turned out I had a growth in my uterus, it turned out to be benign and they removed it with laser, no pain at all. You should see your doctor.

Progesterone as well as magnesium will be the answer , I had the same symptoms you describe many years ago

sometimes restless legs is caused by iron def. and if you have heavy periods thats possible.

I had bad cramps and passed really big clots. I put off too long seeing a doctor so the endometriosis was pretty advanced and had grown into my colon so I had to have a total hysterectomy at age 35. This was exactly 38 years ago today, before new medical advances of laser and robotic surgeries, so if this is your problem you have more options now. Please don’t delay seeing a doctor to be checked out.

Hi there, maybe get your hormone levels checked, usually low progesterone and high estrogen cause heavy periods, i had this, my doc put me on primolut, low dose progesterone, fabulous

Fibroids is oftentimes the cause. It causes lots of problems.

Have you ever been checked for endometriosis? It cause massive periods with much pain, plus pains in legs and ovulation is painful. Talk to your doc about it. I had it and suffered.

When I was in my teens my mom would give me 1/2 teaspoon of Epsom salt in a glass of tap water for three weeks out of the month. Nasty tasting but it served me well. I had very light periods. Never cramped and I didn’t have issues until after I was going through menopause.

Try a good multi vitamin. Fluids lost during your period can affect potassium, magnesium and iron causing muscles to cramp and spasm at times.

Endometriosis…fibroids I had a full hysterectomy…don’t miss heavy periods…

Restless legs I use DoTerra Spikenard oil…rub it in the knees and instant relief!

Vitamin E is very good for restless legs

I had a cyst. Talk to your gynecologist.

Probably fibroids
I was leaking everywhere
It’s the worst pain so o know what you are going through
The GYN consult will answer all your concerns

My heavy periods were caused from having a tubal ligation. Doctor swore up & down that didn’t cause it, but when I had a tubal reversal done, the heavy periods & severe cramping stopped.

50 drops of Clary Sage Essential Oil in 2 oz of Jojoba Oil . Massage quarter sized amount into pubic bone area , circular motions for 5 mins for pain relief.

You need to see a gynaecologist more than likely you have endometriosis

Possibly low iron caused by heavy bleeding and you can take tablets to slow bleeding.

I had that. Turned out to be borderline cell changes. Very early. Get a smear to be safe then they can look at other causes
