What could cause my daughters head to be measuring bigger than her body?

Both of my daughters heads measured much bigger in and out of the womb. They have no issues and 2 years later, they grew into them:woman_shrugging:t2::joy::heart:

At my 36 week check up they actually told me my daughters head was basically too big for her body and that meant she was not getting the nutrients she needed and they may need to induce me but wanted to wait a few days and do another ultrasound. They also said she only weighed 3lbs. Well I went into labor that very next morning… my water broke and she was born at 2:07pm She weighed 5lbs 5oz 17 1/2 inches long and her head fit perfectly with her body. Completely healthy no nicu time at all. She did have a little jaundice but it went away fast. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::smiling_face_with_three_hearts::smiling_face_with_three_hearts: Good Luck Love!!

Babies heads are pretty large normally :woman_shrugging: They grow into them.

Very common. My daughter measured the same. She was just a big baby. She’s 17 now and her head is still big but now her big head was replaced with her big mouth.

Ultrasounds are not also accurate. In more cases than not they are wrong. I was told I was having a tiny baby and my son came out 8lbs 5 oz

My daughters head was in the 90th percentile until she was like a year old ! It’s not always a medical issue, some babies are just tiny with big heads ! She was born 5.14oz, full term and left the hospital at 5.11oz!

If there was any concerned youd be at a specialist right now. My nieces son had hydrocephalus but that corrected itself before birth and hes being monitored closely hes a normal baby and reaching milestones on time.

My son had a large head. Docs wanted to see him every month til he walked. He walked at 10 months old. Doc said, “There isn’t anything wrong with that baby! He just has a big head.” Dont worry! May be absolutely nothing to worry about.

Some kids just have big heads. My middle daughter was like that. They measured her head and did an ultrasound because they were concerned but nothing came of it. She just had a big head. :two_hearts:

Ultrasound readings are not always true, my son was supposed to be at least 7lbs they said, I was induced with him and he was a healthy, but tiny 5lbs 9oz baby

No worries momma. My son’s head was in the 98th percentile and weight was the 50th by the time he was born. His was so big that you could not pull a shirt over his head. He has evened out a little now that he is 5. But whew did he have a big head as a baby and toddler.

My sons head has always been in the higher percentile. When he was born it was like 93. He’s a year and a half now and is just now growing into his head😂 Don’t stress she could just have a big brain!

My nine year old has always had a big head… after she was born her pediatrician always told me well she has a big noggin… dont stress yourself

My son had a big head when he was born tore his mother up on the way out he 10 now and his head is bigger then mine but very smart so sorry that your baby will probably make you hurt like our did to jen but will bring joy for years to come

At the end of one of my pregnancies, ultra sounds showed baby at a healthy 7lbs. He was born the next day almost 10lbs! The ultra sound is not as accurate as people think!

If there is any issues with nutrients to the placenta— the baby’s Darwin theory comes into play… asymmetrical growth— meaning that the body will make sure the Brain (their head) will develop (giving it ALL the nutrients) and the body gets less.
I had a placenta abruption at 23 weeks 4 days… he was born at 34 weeks after a lot of prayer….
Huge!!! 95% for head circumference and only in the 3% for weight. At 7 years old now he’s smart as a whip, just smaller than his peer group.
Don’t worry Momma sounds like your body and your baby are doing what is BEST!!
Do your best not to worry too much!! Hugs and best wishes

same thing happened to my son turns out he came out like his dad big ass head lmao

Googling anything when pregnant not a good idea. Always bad news🤷🏼‍♀️

My daughter after she came out was measuring at less than 5% for weight and 80% for her head. She is just fine and very smart. Sometimes babies are just disproportionate. I hope this is also the case with your baby!

I went through the same thing. Honestly don’t stress it’s probably nothing. My daughter was in the 17th percentile in weight and length and her head in the 80’s. They sent me twice a month to measure and scared the shit out of me. She was born 5lbs one week early and was perfect. She was just a little peanut is all lol. She is now 2 and in the perfect percentile for kids her age.

The baby could just have a big head. My baby still has a big head and has always measured large.

Dr. And hospital cause so much stress making u wait for diagnosis and results of tests. It is extremely stressful

They told me my sons abdomen was measuring big and I had to go for extra scans but he came out perfect. They can’t get 100% accurate measurements all the time. Try not to worry until they tell you definitively if somethings wrong or not. X

Babies and children’s heads are always bigger than their bodies.
