What do you guys think is a good idea to pay a babysitter? I have three kids; one is school age. Taking to and from school would be on me, but the other two will be home. Min wage is $14.49 in my state. Would you pay x amount for the kids and x amount for hours? Not sure how to pay. Also, is there a way I can ask the courts to have the kid’s non-custodial parent help pay? I know they can pay half for the daycare, which is what’s happening, but I’d like to have them at home more than anything.
Typical in home sitters here in AZ charge $25-$30 per day per kid give or take a little.
I always say “ask yourself how much YOU would want to get paid”
Well… It depends… daycare costs $450 a week give or take.
Do you want your babies to be on a schedule? To learn things?
Or do you just want a body there to make sure they’re fed and don’t injure themselves?
$10 per hour plus 2xkids. So for me that worked out to $16 per hour.
I Michigan babysitters make between 15 & 20 an hour. Crazy!
$100 a day flat rate. I nanny a 4yr old and 2yr old, occasionally I bring my own 10m old baby to play. 730am-430pm for 3 days…2 of those days I take the 4yr old to school (3hrs) and pick up (30 minute round trip). I do breakfast, lunch and snacks. Kids laundry once a week. Do any dishes that get used. Sweep/mop the house once a week. Let the dog in/out all day. Deep clean the playroom once a week. We do various games and activities throughout the day but the kids like to watch Bluey or do their own thing while I’m cleaning up.
I baby sitt and charge $30 a day with food and snacks. Each kid 30
Well I’d have to say it depends on what she looks like
My grandson pays 150 dollars a week for one kid
I got paid 35 a day my time there was 5am to 5pm everything was included. Was a 1 year old little boy.
In Alabama, I pay a family friend $11 an hour while I work. It’s expensive as hell but I try and make it work.
My daughters babysitter charges $20 for less than 5 hours and $30 for 5 or more hours. Very affordable thank goodness!
I’ve employed a nanny for the last six years. The best way to figure out how much to pay is to join a local childcare FB group and read the posts or browse care dot com to see their rates. A nanny that comes to your home is going to be more expensive then a center. And, trust me, you need to pay top dollar for reliability and experience. The labor shortage is real and it’s affecting the childcare workforce so I’m seeing completely unqualified candidates trying to charge top dollar. A lot of nannies want to bring their own children with them- which is fine if you’re in agreement, but is a wonderful negotiating point bc they should be slightly cheaper. Good luck!
$10/hr and a good tip
It depends on local rates. I know some sitters ago work with lower income parents and charge $5 per kid, per hour. Then there’s some who charge $15-$25 per kid, per hour.
Cost of living varies so I’d look at local mom groups pages.
Babysitting is Day- care… if meant for during work, etc… just need receipts…or contract
I charge $25 per day. I provide all meals and snacks.
About 10 years ago as a nanny I received $11/hr for 1 kid home and 2 school aged kids. Though I know Nannie’s now make closer to $15/hr in my area
It depends on what they are doing exactly and what they charge. Watching kids while you go out at night and kids are sleeping could probably pay less than if they have to take to and from activities in their vehicle or make and serve meals and clean the house. An occasional sitter, I would likely start at $15/hour for first kid and 3 to 5 for each additional kid. Again depending on what they are expected to do.
If they are watching kids all day thats basically a full time job for them so minimum $15/hr. If you want more than keeping them alive… working on numbers, colors, potty training, ect then pay more.
Imo a babysitter is a short amount of time, and just watches the kids. I did it as a teen and was paid $25 for 2 kids. No diapers, meals or snacks, or bedtime routine for 3-4hrs about once a week.
A nanny is more involved, spending a longer amount of time with the children, and is more costly.
For my granddaughter I paid $20 a day but I provided all snacks , meals and drinks daily for her.
$25-$35 a day per kid , you provide there snacks is what is usually paid here in Texas. No learning or potty training though
In my daycare I charged $150 for a 40 hour week. $30 for a 8 hr day. $3 hr if hours over 40 hrs. If that makes sense.
Where I live it’s $40-$50 a day per child. Includes snacks/lunch then you supply diapers/wipes
I’m CPR certified, would do crafts/learning, music time, story time, and provided snacks/meals. I charged $20 per day per child when I babysat.
85 a day for toddler 65 a day for school age day care here is insane right now I’m so lucky one of mine just aged out of daycare !
I have a baby of a year & 8 mths old. He goes to a preschool from 8-3. My adult son (24yo) picks him up for me (I work in a different town 30 mins away) between 2:30/3 and takes him back to his job. Where we have arranged for a babysitter to watch him for 1:30-2 hrs till we get off of work. We pay her $20 a day. If the baby gets to fussy then my son is there to step in.
Minimum in my state is still 7.25…
Minimum wage is $9.50 in my State. Daycare workers get that.
I think a 5 day week, 8 hour days, 40 hours a week should be at least 350 minimum.
I find this interesting. My 2 yo goes to nursery 4 days a week and we pay £782 a month. My 10 yo has a registered childminder and she picks him up from school at 3.35 until 6-6.30 and she charges £8 a day. Sounds like childcare is more expensive in the US
Is it possible for you to get Childcare subsidies through your state? If the father doesn’t live with you I’m sure you would be able to get it.
You’re gonna have a hard time finding someone on min so keep your mind open, because you might be limited to teenagers, and desperate people that need extra money. Which of course there’s nothing wrong with that as long as they’re qualified. I just want to make sure your expectations are realistic. You’re not gonna get Nanny McPhee.
$30 per day per kid and you have to provide the snacks and juices. $15 to $20 for the half day/school kids.
Minimum wage where I live is $8.75 you all are lucky to get paid that much
When my youngest was in child care it was £70 per day
Harper Jackson Fidler $14.49 an hour for a standard 8 hours is $115.92 a day…$579.60 a week. If they are expecting anymore than that, then that’s selfish of the babysitter. And that’s just assuming they are needed for that long each week. The Original Poster didn’t really mention what times during the day or even how long throughout the week, so it’s pretty hard to guess what a reasonable charge price would be.
My friend is charging $300 for two nights a week. So honestly, I’d probably charge 200 a week
30 to 35 a day per kid
I pay 100 a week for a 5 month old mon-fri 5:30a-330p… Petty cheap compared to some that I had lined up…
i do 35 / 175 week for a toddler and bring my kids with. minimum wage is $7.25 in the state but my city is closer to $10.50 by starting wages
I pay 20$ an hour for 3 kids. One is in school 2 are still in diapers. Even paying 20 an hour seems low in this day and age
It depends on experience as well. As an 18 year old I was getting $21 an hour but as a 26 year old with a lot more experience with children I’d charge closer to $30/hr. I wouldn’t say to charge per kid though. I actually think it’s easier when there’s multiple children personally because it’s not all up to you to entertain them
I charge 60 dollars per child for a week and then for kids that are here like 2 day’s I charge 15 per child per day
Per hr is usually the goin rate
Call your DHS and find out what they would pay for at home care for child subsidies. It is generally less then center care but based on per child per hour. If your ex pays for 1/2 of daycare they should still pay for at home care if it is in place of out of home daycare.
I ended up going to over nights while my fiancee works days because my son’s dad was court ordered to pay half of childcare and has never done it in ten years. Now with two kids i cant afford the 50 a day for a sitter peiple around here want. I only make around 80 a day after taxes get taken out. Then you have to figure in gas to and from work so both of us working days wouldn’t be feasible. But this way yes im tired all the time but im home with the kids all day and I sleep when they nap or the couple hours in between me going to work and my fiancee coming home. I don’t know if that’s an option for you or not. I feel the same about daycares. Awesome if you need them but with covid id prefer someone babysitting in my home if I had to. Just no one reliable available for what i can afford haha.
I live in small town, rural Missouri and pay $105 a week for one kiddo who is full time at a daycare that is working on becoming licensed… There are other licensed daycares in my town that are $175 a week.
What was the daycare going to charge you? You should pay that at least. If she comes to your house pay more. I would pay weekly so the sitter knows what to expect. You’ll be paying more for the convenience and peace of mind not sending them to day care. I’m a 60 yr.old sitter. They call me a Nanny. Kids call me Auntie. When I’m there I always clean up after the kids, kitchen is always free of dishes etc. Before they come home. When I have time when kids are napping or in school I’ll even do some laundry of the he kids. I even have time to rest myself. I get $600 a week. They are Drs.and my days are at least 12 hrs. Long. But not everyday of the week. I usually have weekends off and a day during the week.
In Ontario we are still $50 a day for care a day… Some.as low as 35$ for private
I pay $250 a week for a 3 year old & 4 month old. It’s a home daycare. Normal daycare around here is crazy expensive.
So when I babysat as a teenager I charged 5$/hr/kid. I now run a daycare out of my home and charge $40/day for one child or $35/day per child if multiple children from same family. A big thing to take into consideration aswell is receipts - if they are willing to give receipts you can still claim it with taxes and other parent pay part.
When I used to babysit I was getting paid $60 a day.
Nannies in my area charge average $20 an hour for one child. In home centers run around $40 a day for each child.
In mo i paid 10 a day prr child took snacks and i provided all meals
Daycare vs babysitter is so different. You cant even base the price on that. I dont know anyone who would babysit for 30-40$ a day. Daycares have multiple children at that rate.
That isn’t babysitting to me (when the kids are asleep and you just watch TV with one ear open). That’s full on childcare. It’s usually charged per child per hour too. I would guess around 5-10 per child per hour.
As a child care provider I charged per day per child and did group rates per family & the day depended on the hours. If I did a single shift of 4 hours, it was $20 & double shift over 4 up to 8 hours it would be $40. I provided the food & they would come to my house and be treated as another one of my children & allowed to do anything I was doing. If I wanted ice cream, we all got ice cream. If it was a family with multiple children (usually 2) I would cap the day at $50 a day for however long the day was (usually 8-10 hours) & a full day with over nights then a partial day the next for a family would be $100.
Hope that helps
What state are you in??? We still at $7 25
For a friend I charge $5/hour. For a stranger I would charge $10/hour for one child, plus $5/hour for each additional child. I babysit for the state right now and they don’t pay nearly enough. Only $180 for over 40 hours…
I am 25 years old, been babysitting since 13 when I took the babysitting course. When I first started babysitting it was $5 an hour. Before I started work 3 years ago, it was 20$ a day( was only 1 child for 5 hours) , and 50$ over night. Every place is different but that is what the parent and I discussed was do-able for her. Usually babysitters have what they charge for babysitting so you could discuss what they think is fair.
I could not afford to work if I paid $600 a week. Sitters, Nancy’s all deserve a level of pay. It would be cheaper to offer free room and board with a small salary. Dang I have 5 kids, they’re expensive.
It honestly depends on your area see you hear some people here charge $10 an hour to babysit but on the other hand other places charge $20 a day it’s all dependent on your area
A flat day rate is what I would be doing or a weekly rate not by the hour you’re going to charge somebody 10 to $15 per hour that’s probably what they make at their job it’s not even worth it
I get paid 40 a day for a year old in my home. i worked in daycare growing up bc it was in the family I know also people who use daycare now that its flat rate and with more than one child they give a discount
When my little sister watched my oldest (and maybe now youngest once he’s older and she’s comfortable) over summer I had to fight her to pay her. She was 14 at the time and she would get $5 a day from me Yes that is so little comparatively, but she was in my home the whole time, I also worked from home (had to be in my office area while working, but I was still in house just in case something bad happened) she got special snacks and food just for her and if she wanted a new shirt and I had the money she would get that shirt.
If possible in home daycare is the way to go. You should start by looking up what daycare pay is and what day care workers make. If its in your home and they have access to everything then knock some off the top of that median pay for in an actual facility. If you work from home that makes a difference too. For us minimum wage is different between waiters, servers, baby sitters, store associates, etc. Is the $14.49 minimum wage in general, if so check your states babysitting, nanny, day care minimum wages and go off those specifically, and yes usually non custodial parent can be made to pay for some child care. In NY average wage for babysitter/nanny is $22 an hour but minimum wage is $13.20 an hour. Check if you have any specifics regarding that in your state and then crunch some numbers. For here I noticed pay $15 an hour for one kid, add a second kid or third kid add half that so $7.50. So for 2 to 3 kids thats $22.50 an hour, if that makes sense.
I typically charge $20/$30 a day per child.
If I was having to pay one these days I would have to 15 an hour at least
Most daycares have daily fees of 30-35$. I think it also depends on if sitter is providing anything. (Not sure if you meant her home or your home) but wipes, diapers, food, snacks etc. Also how long, how many days. I was paying $100 a week for 3 days at daycare for a 2yr old. But they just went up to $195 for 3 days. Also for title 20, I believe they pay personal sitters a lot less but they will pay them as long as it’s legit and you submit everything correctly.
Depends where you live and market average. Starting rate for a nanny in Miami is $22ph & up.
I pay $60 per day for a in home daycare. Around my way you aren’t finding a decent experienced nanny for under $20 per hour.
Call the child care resource and referral place in your community and ask how much they pay non licensed caregivers
I charge 25 a day per kid if they supply food and snack. 35 a day if not.
Should be 20 an hour they have bills too that need to be paid
I’d say somewhere between $30-$60 per day depending on the hours and situation
I was a Nanny for 2yrs and was paid 220 every 2 weeks. I also picked up/drop off and picked up mom from work. For 1 toddler/6-7yr old.
Depends if the nanny is experienced or not. Remember this is what they do for a living as well and have bills. If youre actual minimum wage really is that high id expect paying about as much if not more as you would be paying for daycare and yes you can have the ex pay for half. Any care should be paid half by the other parent whether it’s at a center, in home or at home by a nanny. And what are the hours this nanny is looking at? Are you housing the nanny or do they go home everyday? All of this factors in.
I charged $20 per kid a day.
Why do some of the babysitters only charge $20 a day? Is that for like an hour? I thought babysitters charge per hour and that’s like $20 an hour for two kids.
Our good friends pay me $250 a week to watch their 3 year old and 6 month old in my home. They bring the oldest her breakfast and lunch plus snacks and everything I would need for the baby. I watch them 3 days a week from 6:30am - 4pm.
My babysitter watches my daughter’s part time charges $5 an hr for my youngest and $5 an hr when my oldest is out of school and at her house. My hours vary
I know before minimum wage was raised baby sitters hourly rates were generally between $10-$15 an hour given that minimum wage is now about $15 I’d say baby sitters rates would be somewhere between $17-$23 an hour. It might help for you to check out care.com not necessarily to find your babysitter if you already have someone in mind but to get an idea of what rates are for babysitters/nannys and judge from there
In Cali it’s about 35-70 a day and $35 is if they no you and agree. My good friend charged me $25 each kid and it’s usually just drop ins here and there
I think it depends on more than just babysitting… is this someone who this is what they do or is this someone who offered to help you out? When I offered to help a friend of mine out with childcare for her 2 youngest kids I didn’t expect it to pay me a livable wage I’d offered because she was my friend. As long as she supplied what they needed I would’ve watched them for free. If this is someone who’s doing this as a job (like not someone who’s offered as a friend or family) I’d ask around and see what’s normal where you live and if not I’d talk to the person and see what they need/expect.
Depending on age of kids and what all needs done but I usually charge 10-15 an hour. If house work And cooking is required I charge 15-20 an hour.
When I babysat, I got paid $100 a week for 3 kids for two days. I had to take one kid to and from school, and one was a baby. I was severely underpaid because I watched them for 12 hours most days.
I would say that $25 per kid is okay when it’s like a 5 hour shift, but anything after that add $10 for the first hour and $5 for anything after that.
Alot of courts will ask if the non custodial parent can help and if they work opposite shifts then they can use that as extra parenting time thats what they asked us when my husband ex wanted us to pay for day care for a 13 year old the judge asked if my husband could spend that time with him well it blew up in her face because my husband was on disability at the time not working due to past from her had some issues mentally the way she did him and his child anyway so when the judge asked if he could keep him he said yes absolutely I would love to even though I don’t get my scheduled visits now because she refuses to send him so that day was the last day she ever took us back to court we then had to go after her again for his visits so be careful what you ask for if you don’t want them to have any extra parenting time because they can give the kids to him for thise times you need child care if he is available just saying
Also depend where you live as to what daycare baby sitters make in our rural community its around 140 to 170 a week per kid and thats a full work week 40 hours but just say you are off for a week you still send your kids because werher you work or not once enrolled you pay weekly wether they are their or not
I was getting $150 a week for a 3 year old! His dad supplied everything & it was at my house from 6am-2:30pm Monday through Friday & sometimes Saturday but he’d pay extra for Saturday!
In my area starts at $20 hr per kid and it goes up depending on age and needs
Here in Louisiana we pay $20 a day around 8 hours a day
I would look up local daycare and how much they charge, then subtract the cost of food because you’re providing that, if they’re watched in your home. It’s really the only way to be fair. Unless you can find a sitter who absolutely adores small children and will take less.
I Nanny 3 kids 13yo and twin 9yo and I get $60-$100 per day 3-4days a week.
I’d pick a solid amount you all agree on.
I babysit and charge 20$ a day(regardless of hrs) for a 4 yr old. I also provide everything in my home… also been told that was too much…
Depending on what you’re going to expect out of them and their age and experience… I’d start at $15 hr or $350 a wk
We pay $20 an hour for our three (6,4,2) this includes school pickups, preschool drop off and pickups,
After school activities, anything else going on. Min is 15
By the hour. Yes, you can ask for child care payments.
