When should I switch my toddler daughter (2 yo) from baby shampoo to regular? And suggestions? I don’t want that nasty build-up on her hair.
When the hair needs it by 3 my daughter had long/thick enough hair it was necessary. My niece still uses kids and is fine at almost 8. Picture for reference blue shirt is mine and gray romper is my niece.
It depends on the hair.
When your LO can keep their head up and not get soap in their eyes. My nearly 2 yr old (2 in August) still fights me. She also doesn’t have enough hair to put in a ponytail.
My 4 year old daughter. Has been using adult shampoo for a couple years now. She has hair to the middle of her back of not longer
Google! Its pretty crazy.
I used my shampoo on my son once and regretted it because it got into his eyes and he was a screaming mess. I felt so bad and won’t do it again until he can wash his own hair. It was a total nightmare
My kids have always used the same soap that I use.
I use baby shampoo but herbal essence conditioner her hair is really curly
I just use the kids shampoo on my 4 almost 5 yr old now. I’m to afraid to get adult shampoo in his eyes.
My son won’t close his eyes for shampoo so we have to use tear free still.
But he will for conditioner so we only use that on him as far as adult goes. But without a hair cut his hair is very curly & thick. His sensory cause the ASD it scares him to close his eyes too much in the bathtub for a period of time. We started using conditioner at 2 years old.
Depends how easy it is to wash their hair without getting it in their face. Are they cooperative? Short or log hair? Hair type, etc. My 7 year old has buzzed hair and hates it being touched so I use all in 1 kid shampoo still, but my 2 1/2 year old has long curly hair so for him I use curly shampoo and conditioner to keep the looking nice and tangle free and he loves his hair being washed.
I’m curious as to what build up? The J&J classic yellow “tear free” formula is what we always used in the theater to remove grease face paint because it was the gentlest thing that would cut through and get clean.
I’ve been using my normal shampoo on my daughter since she was 1 (that’s when she started to grow hair )
it really depends… my daughter is 5 so if she showers herself i use the tear free kids shampoo/conditioner and aveeno baby body wash just in case she gets it in her eyes. if she jumps in the shower quickly with me i’ll use my good matrix stuff etc on her because her hair is down to her butt and needs a good conditioning once a week at least. lately she likes to take baths with her baby brother so i will use his baby aveeno soap on her so it doesn’t bother his skin using hers just in case. i love the honest company shampoo and conditioner if you’re looking for a recommendation. the orange vanilla is my favorite and i use the conditioner on myself often because it works soo well
My kids are 7 and 11 and we still use kids shampoo on them
Dealing with this problem rn. I’m too scared to get shampoo in her eyes so I rubbed some argan oil on her scalp and it seems to have helped
I’ve washed my girls hair with my shampoo & conditioner since they were at least 1
Paul Mitchell has a kids shampoo that’s tear free so if yours can’t keep head back good but you want something more can start there. Also though mine used paul Mitchell lavender mint & is not the best at putting her head back but hasn’t complained to much when it gets in her eyes lol
nasty build up? Are you rinsing? Because baby or kids shampoo shouldn’t leave a nasty build up
I changed to Avon kids range about that age because baby shampoo drove me nuts.
We’ve used regular conditioner on the tips since she was about 10 months old. Shampoo we still haven’t switched since we have so much to use up but she’s used regular at my parents home and it was fine.
If you are doing it right it shouldn’t build up in first place if so apply oil or petroleum jelly to soften the cradle crap I mean “ cap “ let set for a bit . Use soft baby brush to gently brush up the build up . Be careful to be gentle and take your time it may take a day or two so you don’t make scalp sore or break skin . If you start from BEGINING washing baby’s hair using soft baby brush or better some nursery’s in hospitals use soft scalp massage brushes or sponges or used to that’s where I got mine . Anyway most new moms are afraid to clean baby’s fragile head…. But guess what use sone sense be mindful but they are not that delicate …… lots easier to keep that mess off than have to remove build up …. How’d I gain all this good knowledge ?? Yep I have three raised four have 10 grands 7 greats ran daycare for 16 years making mistakes out of ignorance with my first then practice practice practice !!! Lol
I started using kid’s shampoo on my kids around that age. It’s tear free still. My 11 year old still uses it. We use Suave kids 3 in 1. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash.
I don’t see it being an issue but it’s not as gentle as kids shampoo. I use not your mothers conditioner on my lo bc she has super kinky curls. But for shampoo I use something called Aquation which I get from Walmart it’s hypoallergenic and has no parabens or phthalates also no dyes. AND it’s made with essential oils so it smells AMAZING!!!
I use my hair stuff on my son. Hes mixed so hes got wild hair like mine and my hair stuff keeps hid hair from getting dried out. Hes two.
I’ve been using my husbands old spice head and shoulders on my son since he was like 10 months it helped with the dry skin he had on his head n he’s done fine with it
I’m 42 and still prefer to use baby shampoo xx
Avon do a good kids shampoo 2 in 1 my 3 year old daughter uses it and it makes her hair lovely and soft no build up xx
I use this on both my kids. They’re mixed and it has worked wonders!
I wash my 2 year olds whole head with the kid shampoo and then after i wash it out i use my conditioner on the back of her hair because hes so curly but im scared of getting it in her eyes because she hates having her hair washed
I’ve used my shampoo and conditioner on my daughter since about 2 years old. The baby stuff made her hair dry.
I started to use normal shampoo when my daughters hair started to get dirty looking … prob from about 2-3 she has long thick hair and I need to use conditioner or it gets very tuggy xxx
Get some vegan shampoos
This is my daughter. She has super thick straight hair and baby shampoo just isn’t cutting it anymore. I can notice a waxy build up on my own hair with the shampoo/conditioner that we have right now and was just wondering when people switched their kids. She’s 2 1/2 but still fights to wash her hair.
My oldest was born with hair I could put in pig tails lol so around 1.5 the kids shampoo wouldn’t cut it. So taught her how to Hold her head back and used actually shampoo and conditioner. Used the baby body wash until she was about 5 then switched to regular body wash, but still have her use baby shampoo for her private area. My
Youngest, her hair didn’t come in too long until she was about 3 so I used baby shampoo on her for a while. I switched when she was about 4. She is 5.5 now and Her hair is thick and passed her toosh. So for sure shampooo and conditioner. But they both only
Wash their hair about 2 times a week and body every other day. To help not dry their hair and skin.
I’ve heard baby shampoo actually stops the hair from growing. Idk if that’s myth or not but after 2 you don’t need to use baby shampoo
Shampoo is unnecessary even for adults. It just builds up on your hair. Plain water will wash it just fine.
My son is 7 and I still use baby soap on him.
my 2 daughters are almost 9 and other is 10 i still use kids shampoo on them. and there is a johnson and johnson soap when any of us are sick i use its a green bottle .
I don’t have advice but I try to use natural products on my daughter her skin is very sensitive. Also hair isn’t meant to be washed every day but every other or two days
My kids have a bunch of thick hair and the “baby” shampoo dried it out a lot but this is still gentle enough that my 2 year old can use it and I don’t have to worry as much if it gets in his eyes. A clarifying shampoo will get rid of buildup but be sure to have a good conditioner to use with it. It really just depends on their hair type
I started using my shampoo and conditioner on my daughters hair around the age of three, however unless she really really needs it I only wash her hair once a week
I’ve been using my own shampoo on my girl from like 18 months.
Paul Mitchell baby don’t cry shampoo. It’s for kids of all ages, very gentle, tear free and smells nice. A little goes a long longgg way.
Yeah I’d say as long as the child either knows to hold their head back or keep their eyes closed you should be fine. You can always use one with no fragrance if that’s what your worried about too
My 4 yr old was born with thick hair lol so I actually started using regular a little after her first birthday. It really helped how frizzy/dry her hair felt before we switched
I switched my kids probably around 3!
Mine is 5 I still use baby shampoo and body wash
My daughter is almost 4 & I still use baby shampoo & wash
i use organic shampoo/conditioner on my 2 year old.
my baby is almost 3y and i am still using baby shampoos
Whenever you can wash it without getting it in their eyes. Lol
My daughter is 2 and we went to kids shampoo and conditioner before her second birthday
We did and never had issues
I still use baby shampoo lol and mines 3 and i do leave in products after bath time and especially after swimming that about the only time she uses big girl products
I use kids Miss jessie. Its not harsh. Do your research on shampoos first.
They have toddler shampoo.
I used it as long as I could because it wouldn’t burn if it got in her eyes. Never had a problem with build up on her hair.
Shea shampoo products work great on my toddlers hair. JNJ leaves her hair and scalp so dry it’s awful.
I had to stop using baby shampoo when my son turned 2. His hair is so thick, he needed a conditioner too. And he started getting dandruff from dry scalp. I’ve just been using the suave purely fun 3-in-1. Its still tear free and can be used all over but with conditioner.
My daughter isn’t 2 until August but I use regular shampoo/conditioner on her. I feel like baby stuff is really only good for new borns, when they are still extra extra sensitive…
Mine is 20 he still uses baby shampoo
My son is 3.5 years old and I still use only Burt’s bees baby on him. I probably will until he wants something different lol. Although he loves his “bee”.
I switched to the fairytale line because we were having lice problems at daycare and they have a repel shampoo.
They also have other kinds.
I started at 1. Baby wash and shampoo didn’t make his hair or body smell clean enough
Baby shampoo doesn’t really cause build up mainly stuff like Pantene and wanna be high end hair products cause that
My 6 year old still uses kids tear free baby shampoo
I use baby shampoo and wash on my 5 year old. However I put a small amount of my conditioner on the bottom portion of her hair.
My daughter is 3 and she uses normal shampoo and detangler. But, still uses kids body soap.
I started using my shampoo and conditioner on my son when he turned 2
As a cosmetologist, licensed in 2 states, ABSOLUTELY NOT! Not only do you risk burning their eyes, but there is a reason they make shampoo/conditioner specifically for kids. Their hair shaft is not fully matured, so any chemicals (this includes hair dyes, perms, etc.) used on their hair before the age of 11 will PERMANENTLY change the composition of their hair. So the texture, thickness/thinness, porosity (which is important when it comes to conditioning and then color/perms when they’re adults). Not to mention, 90% of the brands on the market have tons and tons of chemicals that are harmful to adults’ hair, and around 70% of those cause hair loss and/or thinning in adults.
I’ve been using kids shampoo on my boys since about a year old.
I use Suave kids 3 in 1 in the watermelons scent my son loves it and it can be used with conditioner
My daughter is 5 and I still use honest company baby shampoo on her & use regular conditioner. He hair is great.
I think I stopped with my oldest around 3. my twins are 15 months and still very much so have baby hair. When its starts 2 become a more thick consistancy I will switch them 2 my shampoo as I did my oldest.
I think my kids were pre-teens before I realized they needed to upgrade!
My 6, 5, and, 1 1/2 yr old all still use baby shampoo
My daughter is 5 and I’ve been using adult shampoo on her since she was a little over 1. She has very thick, long hair. The baby and kid stuff just wasn’t cutting it
Monat Junior Shampoo is the best!
I still use baby soap and baby shampoo on my 6 year old, 4 year old and 1.5 year old.
I did when they were 2
U just need to be sure they don’t get it in their eyes…
Mine is vegan so at 2 they were good
You can mix a tablespoon of baking soda into regular amount of shampoo, then wash and rinse hair normally will remove any build up
Depends on if they are sensitive to things like that or not. I use normal shampoo and conditioner on my son because his hair is very very dry and he screams and cries during hair cuts. So I use normal and he has no issues.
My oldest is 4 and still use baby shampoo cause I don’t want her to burn her eyes when it’s rinsed
My kids are 9yrs old and 6yrs old and I still use Johnson & Johnson
My baby is 17 months and use regular shampoo on her already.
Well I’m not sure my kids switched to regular shampoo and 1
I switched my son at 1 because of how this his hair is. He’s been using my TRESemme ever since
My son is 8, still has thin hair & sensitive skin. I still use baby wash & shampoo on him. I’ll probably change it when hygiene changes as he matures. Every body is different!
When you smell her head and it no longer smells clean, then it’s time. Same for armpits. When they start smelling like , it’s time!
My son gets what I put in my hair in he has really curly hair just like me🤷♀️
Dilute a drop of adult shampoo in water, mix well and pour on give it a rub and rinse, won’t be as harsh as applying it direct to wet hair!
I started using regular shampoo on my daughter around a year old. She always had thick, wavy hair and baby shampoo just didn’t cut it.
My son is 7 and I still use baby magic cuz it worked best in his hair, didnt leave it course or tangled and smells good and he has never had sensative issues with it.
