When do I start feeding my baby food?

I started both of my kids when they were babies at 4 months with baby food.

I started at 4 month cause , breast milk wasn’t holding him over. I made my own baby food .then by 5 months he was wanting table food . He had no problems and no allergies he is two .

My daughter started at 3mths old. She wudnt take formula or cereal
I stared her with 1 teaspoon of puree irish potatoes. I cooked it seperate very soft n add just a tiny amount of butter for taste
 she loved it
 now she eats everything

The day mine turned 3 months old she had applesauce and rice cereal and held right on to the spoon! You know when they are ready

4 months. Soft foods. Scrambled eggs. Gravy and biscuits.

Mine was about 3 months old. Level one baby food.

Baby cereal at 4 months, baby food at 6 months

I would say go for it. Every baby is different I’ve started all of mine at different ages. I always started when they were ready not when they turned a certain age

I started at 4 months because he was inhaling formula and just always hungry. But yes the recommended age is 6 months

Whats that rule
food before one is just for fun? Can someone tell me the point in giving their kids this if it doesn’t provide any nutritional value?

4 months is way young idc I maybe once in a blue moon stuck m finger in a very tiny bairley taste of something but wait till there lil older then 4 months!! And could be doing that cause he’s teething i started introduction soft foods like mashed things soft stuff around 6 7 months but my kids still ate baby food mixed with cereal and then would have bottle of milk after to stay fuller but about 2 when I started actually giving cut up tiny pieces of food! Maybe lil earlier but that’s just me mine are happy healthy and almost 10 and 12

When do you potty train, when do you teach to walk. If you have to ask questions like this in wastebook you probably shouldn’t be a parent

Help a mama out and respond anonymously on our forum. When do I start feeding my baby food?

Pediatricians ask you to wait till 6 months old just in case your baby has an allergic reaction. That’s the age where they can safely take Benadryl. I’m glad I waited, my baby had a reaction to mango.

Yes it is recommended to wait until 6 months to give baby food because they say the baby’s stomach isn’t developed yet and the baby will be damaged when they are much much older like in their adult hood. I suggest it’s completely up to you if you feel your baby is hungry and their milk isn’t fulling them up and they are interested in eating food. You are the mama you know best for your baby not us we are not with your baby 24/7 trust your instincts.

We started baby led weaning at 6 months once he was showing all signs of readiness. Baby Led Weaning for Beginners & Beyond (BLWBB) is the best group to get so much accurate information from before you start.

As babies number one source of nutrition should be formula/breast milk till age 1 even if they are eating regular and/or puréed food.

The reason they say to wait until 6 mos is because your baby cannot digest foods that early. It tends to lead to IBS later on.

Rice cereal and formula/breastmilk mix at 4 months. My twin boys just love/loved food. They are now 4’4" and 63 lb at 6 years old.

4 months
and he did Not like the mushy foods
 he liked meatballs and pasta

How old is she? I started my son at 3 months on cereal, he was always hungry unless I did. My daughter we started at 4 or 5 months.

I’m a huge believer in waiting til 6 months. So that’s how it went with my first 3 babies. But my 4th bub was 11 pound 2 ounces born (5kgs) and he was tube fed for the first 10 weeks but showed a huge interest in food from then. He started the 4 month purees close to 4 months old.

I started at two months with baby cereal and then moved up to baby food.

I know ill probably be shamed for it but as soon as my kids got there first tooth I started giving them actual food like mashed potatoes apple sauce noodles just stuff that was easy for them to eat

It’s best to wait at least 6 months
its a good sign either way, or she could just be showing you she is hungry
because she sees you are eating as well.

It’s different for every kid I started at 4 mo with both my boys but it was approved by their pediatrician. If your pediatrician is saying to wait then I’d wait.

I give my son purĂ©es and have been since about 4 1/2 but it was small and ofc he’s now 6mos.

I started baby food at 4 months bc formula wasn’t satisfying mine :woman_shrugging:t2: mama knows best imo

As soon as mine started showing interest by watching us like a hawk and making eating motions with their mouths as we were eating,4 out of 5 were 4months then my last was 5months

4 months baby cereal, 5 months fruit and vegetables and six months meat as per our pediatrician.

When they start showing interest in food is when I did it. My first was around 4 months for oatmeal and 6 months for purees. With my second oatmeal at 2 months and purees at 4 months. If you want to do BLW best to wait until about 6 months. I moved to more BLW once they had teeth. Primary diet should still be breastmilk/formula though.

Every baby different, if she starting to show signs of wanting it, start small with the simple stuff. Apple sauce and the mushed peas and things.

Listen to your pediatrician! Why would you even go against their advice??Feeding them earlier May cause food allergies.

3 months with rice cereal added into formula. Slept through the night after that

Pediatrician told me at 4 months I could start solids like mashed potatoes and gravy and stuff like that

No earlier than 6 months- if she shows signs of interest.
Breast milk/ formula should be primary source until 12 months.

Nothing other than milk before age of 6 months and food before 1 is just for fun

Between 4-6 months according to the AAP.

"When can my baby begin solid foods?
Remember that each child’s readiness depends on his own rate of development.

Can he hold his head up? Your baby should be able to sit in a high chair, a feeding seat, or an infant seat with good head control.

Does he open his mouth when food comes his way? Babies may be ready if they watch you eating, reach for your food, and seem eager to be fed.

Can he move food from a spoon into his throat? If you offer a spoon of rice cereal, he pushes it out of his mouth, and it dribbles onto his chin, he may not have the ability to move it to the back of his mouth to swallow it. That’s normal. Remember, he’s never had anything thicker than breast milk or formula before, and this may take some getting used to. Try diluting it the first few times; then, gradually thicken the texture. You may also want to wait a week or two and try again.

Is he big enough? Generally, when infants double their birth weight (typically at about 4 months of age) and weigh about 13 pounds or more, they may be ready for solid foods."

When your pedi says it’s okay

4 months cereal and purées 6 months BLW

Waiting until 6 months is better for their gut health.

4 months for baby food and cereal

6 months like you were told :face_with_monocle::joy:

6 months with all 4 of mine!

3 and 4 months with all 4 of my boys! They all did wonderful. Start with the thin, liquidy puree and go from there.

6 months, feeding earlier than that can cause allergies and digestive issues

I started at 4 months for purees

Jen May Nyquil lots of Nyquil

The longer you can wait the better. 12 months

When they can hold their head up unassisted.

We started at 6 months

4 months for us, on the advice of our paediatric team :slightly_smiling_face:

We started at 4 months.

Between 4 & 6 months

Started 4.5 months when interested I think it’s fine

That’s something you need to ask your child doctor.

I started all mine at 3-4 months old. They ate only what I ate (baby led weaning) they aren’t picky and they eat everything. My oldest is 20
my youngest is 6 with two in the middle. Baby food is a waste of time and money. Fed them a bite or two of what you’re eating and they’ll be fine.

Don’t listen to any1 else
a mother knows when her child is ready x

U no when ur baby’s ready both mines were on baby food before 6 months x

You think your baby is ready
feed your baby.
The rules have changed so much since mine were babies but the babies needs dont change and neither does a mothers instinct. Mine were having tastes off the tip of my finger long before 6 months.

All kids 4 months mashed potatoes

My started my son at 4 months and my daughter, she wasn’t ready until 6 months.

6 months as they are meant to be able to sit up unaided.

If your doctor told you to wait there is probably a reason! Talk to your pediatrician not fb please.

6+ months! And meet the guidelines. Being able to sit and hold their head is a big one, I can’t remember the rest.

I started both kids about 3 months and 6 months before I started the meats

3-4/5 months for all of mine. Each one was ready and interested at different times

If you have a history of allergies it’s beneficial to breast feed and start food later.

We started my daughter the day she turned 3months old :woman_shrugging:t2: she was eating 8oz bottles at 3weeks old and we had started rice cereal in her bottles at 6weeks cause 8ozs was way too much for her.

Research now shows waiting until they are 6m is better for their gut health. Both my kiddos were 6 months. Daughter pediatrician at the time advised that my sons at the time said 4 but there were a few things I questioned with that provider. (We have since switched again and found one we love again!)

My son started baby cereal at 4 weeks. Started fruit and vegetables at 2 months and real food by 6 months. He was 4 lbs 15 oz at birth he is now 6’1” . He has always been a good eater, too.

Definitely 6 months, their digestive system isn’t ready at 4 months.

My oldest was eating steak, finely cut up, at 9 months, all 3 of mine were on cereal by 2 months, no picky eaters here. With that being said, it really sounds like your daughter is ready, start here with cereal, some babies don’t like the cereal, if that seems to be the case, try fruits, then move to veggies. Start with the stage 1. I would do as another reply said and give each new food 3 days before introducing any other food. All of my children were off their bottle by 1, because they were such good eaters, sippy cups til they could hold a plastic cup without spilling it. Good luck, you got this momma!

I gave my babies little tastes at 4 months

Our pediatrician said 4 months for purées and 6 months for solids

We waited till 1 year old.

I remember reading something if your baby drink more than a can of formula in 24 hrs and still wants more time to start feeding
I started feeding my son when he was 1 month old. He would eat baby cereal mixed with canned applesauce a bowl full take 8 oz bottle and was healthy I believe it’s up to each parent and baby

6-7 month.
My mother fed my brother to early he had to have open stomach surgery.

Most Pediatricians will say between 6-9months. There is a “medical” reason for this and that is babies (although every single solitary baby is unique and different), they all have the same digestive system. At 3-5 months their digestive system is not fully formed and that is why babies “need” breastmilk or formula. It is no different in other baby mammals. (Baby kittens, puppies, etc nurse for awhile on their mothers as their digestive system is also not fully formed. They don’t go from being born one minute to eating cat or dog food.) Human babies are the same way. Parents always “want” to feed their child as soon as possible, but mostly because of convenience, which does not make it a smart thing to do. Check with your Family Doctor or Pediatrician.

1st child 6-8 months but that was because he has stomach issues but did give him oatmeal at 3 months in his bottles per doc advise to help gain weight
2nd child 3-5 months
3rd child 3 months

Just wait and please do actual research and don’t listen to moms on Facebook. Outcomes for food based allergy issues are much better if you wait to feed your baby. I would certainly trust a pediatrician over internet advice.

Oh my goodness. What did people do before Gerber? They fed them food! I fed mine SELECT foods off the table as soon as they started wanting to nurse constantly like they were still hungry or reaching like interested and I raised 3+ super healthy kids. Feed that sweet baby mashed potatoes smashed up green beans applesauce ANYTHING that’s not spicy, etc.

Our pediatrician had us start at 4 months with rice cereal/baby oatmeal and puree foods. He was ready. He loved it.

Please please please do research. There are so many varying opinions and what may have worked for some at 4mo may have been the luck of the draw. Many parents and paediatricians ok purĂ©es at around 4mo old. If that’s the route you want to take that’s great. Other parents take the baby-led weening approach which skips purĂ©es and allows baby to eat natural texture foods in their natural state (with some limitations - ie no honey until 12mo to avoid infant botulism).

At that age babies are becoming increasingly aware of their surroundings and eating/snacking is an often occurring time they see and want to be involved in. It is important to be aware of what their digestive system can handle though - think of it like a toddler wanting chocolate because they see you eating it. Just because they see you do it, they want it. Doesn’t mean they should have it.

We started cereal at 4 no and started adding some veggies into it at 5mo after he got the eating from a spoon mastered(ish) lol

I started both of mine at 1 month and started our grand twins at 1 and a half months

4/5 were fed custards at 3-4months.
They were like your bub.
