Which is better tubal ligation or vasectomy?

Vasectomy. It’s a outpatient procedure with little recovery time 1-2 days. Tubal ligation major surgery

My husband choose the vasectomy because it is easier and not as much pain as a tubal. If you were having a c-section and tubal at the same time, then it would be slightly different. Still the vasectomy is better.

We have heard of men having a vasectomy and opps, his wife became pregnant. And yes, it was his child! Soooo
Not sure about the vasectomy route!

I had my tubes tied years ago it wasmt bad at all.

Birth control and condoms you should both try and I’m not saying birth control and condoms work 100% but I’d rather play safe sex than getting surgery done and plus yes your tubes can come untied I know people that it’s happened and they got pregnant.

I heard horror stories about tubal so was like nope, not happening. My hubby got the vasectomy. I carried and gave birth, he said it was the least he could do.

Outpatient, took about 30 mins. Awake the whole time, just numbed. Said was only uncomfortable once when doc pushed the glans out of the way and upward. Sat on ice for 24 hrs then we got to go at at like bunnies for the next week. This was to drain the pipes and make sure he was shooting blanks. He has a itty bitty scar along the ridge line of his nutsack. Can barely see it. Pretty good trade off!

Eventually, I got a uterine ablation to end evil periods. Win-win all the way.

Easier for him…healing time

He will recover faster

My husband got a vasectomy and neither of us have any regrets. I went with him for the procedure and I have to say it was really satisfying to see him be the one in the drs office with his pants off for once :joy::joy:. On a serious note though, it was a breeze, even for him. His grandma had recently passed and we had to go to her funeral the very next day where he was a pallbearer. It was a really easy decision for us and I’m thankful he was so willing because I hate birth control and would not have wanted to tie my tubes. It was also the cheaper option for us, I think we paid around $400 or so after insurance.

A vasectomy can be checked to see if it was truly effective. My husband had one 18 years ago. He sad the worst part was taking in his follow up sample. He had no pain and we even went out the day he had it done.

See what your insurance covers. My husband is covered 100% where I am not so he gets fixed. Plus I was pregnant and delivered multiple times so it is his turn.

Have read about and heard from many women that tubes tied results in more side affects and potential problems for the woman than a vasectomy for a man. Don’t think I’ve ever heard of “vasectomy side affects and/or messed up hormonal system.”

Depends on how it is done. They actually cut a piece of the tube (vas deferens) of my husband and then cauterized and put a piece of fat in between so there’s no chance of the ends growing back together. Same can be done with your tubes, they can remove them not just “tie” them. After carrying 4 babies and all natural births I just told my husband it was his turn to do some of the work and he didn’t fight me on it. I never laughed so hard in my life as when that doc told him to scoot his butt to the end of the table and drop his knees!
The failure rates are about the same, so if you want to be extra cautious just do both!

Vasectomy is nowhere near as invasive and is easily reversed. Tubal ligation is so painful

Figure out which one insurance will cover more! I got a tubal because I had 5 miscarriages and 2 live births and other issues…they paid it 100%

I have an IUD and tubes clamped, I have been scare free since and nearly no periods

I would do both. I got pregnant after having tubes tide. And i know. People have gotten pregnant after vac. So be sure

Depends on if you are a woman or man. I vote vasectomy.

I personally know people who have gotten both and still got pregnant :woman_shrugging: I myself opted for a hysterectomy, leaving my ovaries, which I’m very happy with! Drastically lowers/removes cervical and uterine cancer risk, no periods, no more babies! Everyone is different, but for me it solved quite a few issues, plus of course absolutely zero chance of accidental pregnancy, which is a literal life saver for me! :+1::+1:

A loving, unselfish husband would get the vas so much easier. Tubal ligations have been known to become undone much more frequently than a Vas.
A Vas is so much less complicated than a tubal ligation, no brainier.

Tubes tied is a more invasive procedure, has a longer recovery, and more potential side effects and complications

Vasectomy is the safer, quicker, and cheaper option according to my doc. Im in that battle too so I’ve asked many questions.

If you are sure you don’t want anymore children ever get tubes tied

I had a tubal since I was a c section otherwise may have been a problem

More risks for woman.

Why not both? Means there’s a lower chance of a pregnancy if one of them fails

Easier healing for men, harder on the woman.

A tubal ligation is invasive, while a vasectomy is not

He wont be caught up with if he cheats

I had my tubes done… And I do NOT recommend doing it if there is another option.

Also bad hormonal effects.

2 many ?s 2 have a opinion sorry…

I had tubal no problems

My male doctor straight told me and my husband that he should of gotten cut, that it was easier on the men and not as invasive and recovery also isn’t near as long. Ultimately I choose to get my tubes tied though cause I am done and don’t want to take any chances on having another.

I had a tubal after a c section with our twins.
My periods have been absolutely hell for the last 8 years. Extremely heavy flow and very bad PMS symptoms. No one tells you there are side effects to a tubal.

A vasectomy is way cheaper and a lot less invasive. I had my tubes tied almost 2 years ago and I still have bad days and the affect to my hormones and period are outrageous. If I could go back I’d have him get cut in a heartbeat

Vasectomy is an ¹/⁸ of the price & recovery time. Tubal is $5000 & up to 6 wks of recovery. Guys have 2 days of down time & it’s about $300. Tubal has potential for more complications.

I’ve never heard of anyone having any problems following a vasectomy. However. I had my tubes tied 7 years ago. My periods went from 4-5 days to 9+ days… and that’s probably 7 days of super heavy flow. Nausea, cramping, headaches, my mood swings are worse. I feel like my life now is either actively bleeding or PMSing all the time. It’s just been an all around bad experience. I haven’t gotten pregnant again though so there’s that. :woman_shrugging::woman_shrugging:

With a final , yes it could fail. Our bodies try to repair it self, meaning , it will try to reconnect. I had mine when I was 30, now 67( yes of course, I can’t get pregnant now) but back then. I never did. When one has a tubal they will not go thru menopause unless it was there time. There ovaries are still there. If they are removed, which I can’t see why they would be, they still have their hormones. Even with a hysterectomy, keep your ovaries. With a vasectomy , all is cleared, but your husband has to go back with a cup of sperm to see if there are any swimmers. If no swimmers, you are good.
Again I had my tubal back in the day 80’s. Best thing I very did. But I wasn’t married anymore. Best deii ever made. Sore that day, slept, woke up next day, a little side, but fine. I just took it easy for a few days afterwards…
As for a man getting a vasectomy, yes, easier. They might moan : Friday, but a little ice on their balls & some beers, they will be good.

While waiting for my then husband to get decide to get done, I got pregnant and ended up losing my daughter from a virus infection at 5 months. I decided to get an endometric abluasion and had to have my left ovary removed, so she tied and burnt the right so there were no complications. And he got mad. Plus I was down and out of work 6 weeks from it. His would’ve been so much less complicated.

i think get the arm thingy. and have him get the vasectomy anyways.

Play it fair. Both do it :ok_hand::joy:

Get him done in and out in a day but if you divorce he wont be able to have kids

My friend and her husband both went to get theirs done.

I just went and had my tubes removed in july, I have cramping constantly and I’m waiting on a period. Which I am sure is coming as my back is killing me as well as my stomach. My surgeon even said it would of been better for my hubby and quicker recovery. Wouldn’t be 6 weeks down

I had mine done the day after I had our son. Recovery wasn’t bad because I recovered the same time as my labor did. Its been 7 years and we’ve not had any issues but my husband has mentioned getting snipped as well. Just hasn’t really had time to look further into it.

I choose tubal… I was done having children. If something happened to me… he could chose to be a father again…:sparkling_heart:

I had it done because I wanted to and knew I was done having children regardless of whatever happened in the future. It was an easy recovery for me! I was so thrilled to get a few nights uninterrupted sleep that I’d probably do it again if they’d let me :joy:

Girl Cut Him! LOLOL! No let the dr do it! I had loads of issues after my tubes where tied. It’s 3 days recovery for him…for you it’s years of possible bad periods and other issues!

I had the kids, he had the vasectomy! My husband had no problem with that. It was simple & he was back to normal in a few days.

We both had it done. Husband was born because his mom had her tunes tied and she still got pregnant. We went a step further I had a c section and asked for it to be done then. 6mos later my husband went in for his. No more babies here.

Why do they call it ‘fixed’ when in fact, it leaves the person ‘broken’?!?

I wish I could have gotten the tubal ligation. The hospital I had my younger two daughters in doesn’t do that, so I ended up with some stupid permanent birth control called Essure. The inflammation was horrible! Thank goodness I had it removed later!

Vasectomy. He will have leftovers but use a condom when you guys have sex so he can empty out the working swimmers. He will have to go to the doctors a few times to check the sperm count. It needs to be at 0. It’s not that bad. Hubby had it done because we can’t chance on it. It’s a lot easier.

Vasectomy!!! Recovery time is shorter and less expensive than a tubal!! But make sure that he wears a condom afterwards until the Dr.gives him the all clear! Them critters are sneaky!!

Tubal ligation is an outpatient procedure. Home the same day. There’s no big scar, they go through the bellybutton. Sore from the gas they use to inflate the abdominal cavity.

I had my tubes tied and picked my son up from school 2 hours later.I will tell you the longer the debate you may get pregnant not expecting it

Well it’s not a matter of what you want at this point, it’s a matter of whether your doctor will approve your procedure. A lot of states make women go through all the damn hoops and make promises for the procedure. Like NC we have to be married for 20 years, I have to be 35 have two kids go through psy evual and get husbands permission. Where my husband can just go and get it without the damn hoops which is so unfair. EDIT my husband says look at all the risks for the both of you there is way less risk for males to get it done and way easy for him to get it reversed. My husband flat told me he’s getting it he won’t let me do it. But that decision will come offically when kids make their way in the picture.

Both have its pros and cons - both are better - my aunt had tubes tied and still got pregnant - so it depends on you -

I had a tubal ligation, was pregnant four months later. Recovery was awful and ended up have to have another surgery after having two more babies back to back to have my tubes removed. It’s literally a drs visit, three stitches and ice them for a day or two for a guy. He needs to not be a selfish jerk like my husband and get his snip on. Lol

Vasectomy is less invasive

I vote vasectomy: he gets an ice pack and a six pack.

I had a tubal no issues

Everyone saying you can still get pregnant after a tubal must not have had the procedure I did. They didn’t “tie” they didn’t “clamp”…they removed sections of each tube and burned the 4 ends closed. In order to get pregnant, an egg would have to somehow get out then float around and somehow find a way into the other end that was burned closed.

I got tubal done in june 2015, went 2.5 years with no period. January 2017 i started getting bad cramps, and heavy flo. Ended up having adenomyosis. Had a hysterectomy in may 2017…best decision

Also my husbands insurance at the time covered 100% of my tubal and would only cover 80% of his vasectomy. Plus we were told vasectomy increases chances for prostate cancer, and a tubal lowers womens chances for lady part cancer.
I was also 27 when i had hysterectomy. And i will be 32 next week.

My husband went for the snip job, it didn’t take, the dr had to go back in a few hours later, he didn’t get stitched up correctly & was bleeding out,30 min drive back to dr, the dr didn’t have any more anesthesia, had to complete the job with no pain killer, then found out later he was still running w/ full tank, surgery didn’t take, back for a 2nd procedure, that didn’t take, so I went in, I had complications, reaction to the anesthesia, had to go to hosp by ambulance, stay overnight. But got the job done…

My husband had a vasectomy
I had an ablation
Neither is a procedure that’s :100:
An ablation you don’t get periods anymore and I felt I deserved that after :joy:
Both are out patient
Both you need a couple days recovery
Both are usually covered under most insurance

A tubal ligation might put you at greater risk and a hospital stay .I believe his procedure in and out within a day.I have heard of still being able to get pregnant after a vasectomy if he’s not back for exam afterwards.

believe,Hysto more reliable

I got a tubal ligation just a couple weeks ago. My boyfriend wants a vasectomy anyway as well. All I know is prepare for your body to hurt for at least a week. My insurance covered my surgery costs. I’m on OHP. My throat swelled up from the breathing tube to the point it was hard to breath and could hardly swallow. Next was the entire body aches which was caused from the air they pumped me up with for the surgery because they went through my belly button. When I mean body aches, I mean my entire body was in excruciating pain to the point I couldn’t move a muscle without sharp pain. It was probably just my pain tolerance honestly. It might not be so bad for others. The only risk I am aware of from tubal ligation is the little higher chance of a tubal / ectopic pregnancy and of course the risks of if you were to reverse it after getting it done.

It’s so much easier on both of you if he gets a vasectomy.
