That simple, Grandparents ARE NOT free baby sitters!!
You pay ,& don’t compare your mother to your mother in law.everyone is different!
Your children, your responsibility. If Mil needs help perhaps pick someone helps. She raised her kids and it may be too much for her, kids are tiring she may want to do it but …maybe for a shorter time next time
First as the parent you are responsible for paying a babysitter. If your MIL was not involved I am sure you would properly pay a sitter. I see no difference if your MIL is keeping them over night. Maybe she knows what she can and cannot handle or has health limitations. I would be grateful that you had a family member to keep them overnight as an overnight sitter would have cost an arm and a leg. I would also offer to either pay your MIL or give her a nice gift as well.
