Are you sending your kids to in person school this year?

I homeschool 4 of my 5 kiddos!!! :grimacing: We will do group activities with the local homeschool families this year though! I canā€™t wait! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I was too nervous about Covid last year. :frowning: Weā€™re still filling in gaps from public school, so itā€™s going to be a rough year! Send Help! :joy::upside_down_face::crazy_face::exploding_head::laughing:

Regrettably my childā€™s school is not allowing online this year. While initially I liked homeschooling to protect against covid, I grew to love being her 3rd grade teacher. We had a year sheā€™ll never forget. She didnā€™t want to go back in person but I think itā€™s best for her social life.

Absolutely. We were in person the entire year last year and it was fine. This year will be fine too. The school handled Covid cases very transparently and I feel 100% safe sending my kids. (Plus theyā€™re both fully vaccinated)

My 9 year old did just great at home. He maintained his Aā€™s and Bā€™s. Heā€™s also immuocompromised and I have a 2 year old who was a preemie with a weak immune system. Me and his dad decided to keep him online but itā€™s still through our county so I get to keep his IEP. Iā€™m just not chancing it

Yes. One our schools arenā€™t offering remote only learning this year and for two I can NOT be teacher this year to my kids. They didnā€™t want to even put effort into their work and they were more concerned about paying attention to the house than their computers.
I mentally can NOT do it this year!!!
Plus I need to focus on MY schoolwork rather than making sure my kids are doing what theyā€™re supposed to be doing.
Thirdly, my kids have NO social life since Covid and they NEED to be able to socialize!

My 2 are going back. My youngest suffered with so much anxiety being kept home. She almost never slept. My oldest has dyslexia and her extra classes with other teachers were a joke online. They both need to be back in class, and have somewhat of a normal life back.

My youngest 2 who are going into 11th and 12th grade actually excelled with remote learning but I know they are yearning for social interaction. 11th and 12th grade are some of the best years too, I wouldnā€™t want them to miss out on that. They are both fully vaccinated but I still worry.

As a high school teacher, Iā€™d recommend going in-person unless there are other health concerns that would add more risk. Some kids thrive in virtual school, but many do not-even the best and brightest. If the hesitation is rooted solely in a possible disruption, I would say send them in-person.

Yep. They went in person last year too. Our school sends home computers for every student incase of a shut down. Mine HATED virtual school. I also felt they learned way more in person than virtual. With virtual the kids got restless, stopped paying attention, would get confused switching through apps, wouldnā€™t be heard/seen when trying to ask for help, etc. Virtual learning is so hard for kids. They need in person learning and the social interactions with friends.

Iā€™m grateful I havenā€™t had to make this decision. However, my kids would be doing virtual if I had. They get plenty of social interaction from family and outtings etc. I love how we think school is ā€œsocialā€ but kids only get to socialize at lunch, they absolutely get more being a part of mom groups etc.

I have to. I hate it, I feel like Iā€™m choosing the frying pan over the fire, but having her home has been so bad for her mental health and online school was so bad for our relationship I have to take the risk. Thankfully sheā€™s old enough to understand howb important it is to wear her mask and sanitize hands etc

Absolutely. Kids are resilient and can adapt better than some think. Itā€™s parents that have more of an issue.

Nope. Iā€™m homeschooling. It will be our 2nd official homeschooling year. There are a multitude of reasons, one because itā€™s better for my son, 2 because of curriculum and 3 because Iā€™m not down with mandatory masking.

Weā€™re homeschooling again this year. My three did great last year. With one that canā€™t really take medicine, weā€™re playing it safe.

We had in-person school all year last year and my kids attended. They had protocols in place and we had some cases but no schools were shut down because of it.

I live in SC, and we were 100% face to face last year (masks were mandatory) and will be face to face this year (but masks are not required).

Unfortunately yes. I donā€™t have a choice. I work full time and I cannot take off work. She knows to keep her mask on and sanitize frequently.

Yes. We were in person most of last year. I donā€™t think there is even an at home option through the school district This year that I know of so I guess someone not wanting to send their kids would have to do their own home school. We had no issues last year and I would never want my child isolated at home like that.

Were sending ours in person. She was in person during the pandemic and she was fine. Her school went above and beyond to keep the children and staff safe. Weā€™re fully confident it will be another great school year!

Theyā€™re going back to in school. I was on the fence about it but they do better in a school setting than at home. And thereā€™s too many of them for me to help them properly. Canā€™t school four kids by myself when all their schedules are different. Itā€™s just too much and not much support from the school/teachers in that situation.

In person all the way !!! If they shut down again there is a huge problem , teachers are vaccinated and the kids can wear masks indoors (i am ok with this)ā€¦ if wearing a mask means they get to be taught by their teachers than i am on board

My kids are in. We have done our part: socially distanced, vaccinated, teaching them proper hand washing and to limit close interactions with classmates. Iā€™ll remain hopeful that we can all make it through this whole!!

Yes. They actually went back after winter break last yr. Itā€™s my daughterā€™s 1st yr of middle school and I refuse to not have her enjoy what a real normal middle school is like. She will go back and if everythingā€™s shuts down then she will have to do online. Itā€™s part of dealing with life she knows this and is fine with it.

Yes. My kids have been home since the beginning of everything and it seriously taken a toll on them especially my teenager.

Absolutely yes sending my 7 year old back. She needs social interaction!!! I donā€™t care if they have to wear masks or sit behind plexiglass, they need these precious years!

My kids are going because I have to work and even if I didnā€™t I donā€™t know the correct way to teach them. But I really think something about to happen like another shut down or ssomething. With the new delta covid or whatever itā€™s called bringing numbers back up fast and the fact people arenā€™t wanting to work and products not being made stores are running out of stuff quickly. And the truck drivers have noticed it big time with food (meat)ā€¦I could be wrong this is just all info Iā€™ve gathered from news and truckers. But I think we are in for something.

Mine is just starting kindergarten so yes she will be going in person. As we learned her socializing and learning took a very hard hit with remote. We will only do remote if no choice. This illness is not going away so better to just comprehend it and work with it. Of course precautions will be taken as I am high risk and vaccinated as well. But kids already suffered badly donā€™t plan to let it continue.

No option for us. We are in Northern Illinois. Ethier way it was like that last year back & fourth but luckily my big kid did great i had no issues at all. I have a High Schooler it was his first year. He passed with awesome grades. Hopefully this year he does the same

My boy did his whole first year in kindergarten in person at school last year. And heā€™s starting 1st grade tomorrow in person. Iā€™m scheduled for a csection next Friday with my 3rd baby and thereā€™s no way I could do the virtual learning with my ole man working nights too.

Iā€™m a single mom of a 2 year old and he will be doing early head start in person. I NEED him to be in daycare so I can work, do my college courses, and maintain my sanity.

Yes, with a mask still. His school works with the state to track any covid cases. He went back last school year pretty early and there were very low cases and only about one to two cases from school interactions across the school brand in the state. They did so well, I have faith that they will continue this amazing tracking and quarantine procedures

My son already started and his school only lets immune compromised kids to do at home learning. I would hope thereā€™s not another shut down

yes. we donā€™t have an option to keep her virtual. she was virtual basically all of last year, but theyā€™re going back to 5 days a week full time and masks arenā€™t required. iā€™m terrified. she will be wearing a mask though. sheā€™s super excited to go to school but weā€™ve been so lucky to not get the virus this far, so it makes me nervous sending her back.

Yes. The kids are way stronger than what we think. Mybkids school district was closed for 1 1/2 year. They would scooter daily jist to make sure they didnā€™t open. School said they would open in 3 diferent occasions n then last minute decided not to. Om the third time I was crying. I thoug my kids would just brake down with those broken promises. Turns out they were not interest in joining my potty party n told me to just move on . Iā€™m shock at the strength that ny kids have. They are learning ti be flexible! I admire them!

Yes both my 9yr old and 3 yr old have been and will continue to do in person with their masks on.

Mines gone all year even when the schools where shut and they where able to do things for key worked and they have been fine about it all
We have to live with it

My kids will be going my daughter has to repeat second grade because of the home schooling from last year she does much better in a classroom setting

In person. My 7 year old is so behind, Iā€™m sending her back to 1st grade unfortunately. My 12 year old is on track but she needs in person, she needs responsibility and to be held accountable.

My kids havenā€™t been given any other options besides in person so thatā€™s what we are gonna be doing. Plus my oldest is special needs and needs the support services that I canā€™t provide. Heā€™s autistic so the break up between home is home and school is school is very much needed for him. My little one is 3 almost 4 and a social butterfly and a sponge for anything. I could keep her home but thereā€™s no point if her brothers already in school so theyā€™re both going.

Iā€™m torn. We did virtual last year and planned on going back this year but now talk if masks and testing and the shotā€¦I just donā€™t know. Might stay virtual again.

So we have 3 in school and last year we did 100% virtual the entire school year. And when asked by the school towards the end we said we wanted to stay virtual because our daughter has mcadd and when she gets sick it can be deadly. Well we talked to her specialist and he thinks it will be okay to go back in person between the adults being vaccinated and the precautions they are taking as well as the next age group of kids bing vaccinated should be elementary age which is what our kids are in heā€™s hopeful it will be okay and we have very strict actions that are taken if she shows any symptoms

Mine will be in person. At worst, we have a laptop he can use (plus he has the school one there that could be potentially brought home). I also keep various work books and reading books for the age level and a little higher. Mine need the social interaction

Yesā€¦unless the school doesnā€™t have that option againā€¦but my son really NEEDS to be in a classroom to learn certain things

My 11 year old heart hero son is doing Homebound. He did 100% virtual last school year and due to his health his doctors said absolutely no campus because his health is chronic and heā€™s extremely high risk. It worked for him doing virtual and he did better than he ever did on campus. He misses his friends and going to school but he likes being alive. It sucks and itā€™s hard especially since I am a single stay at home heart mom with no income other than his SSI. I also like my child being alive and healthyā€¦ish!

I have a 17 mth old son and 19 mth old grand-daughter at homeā€¦THEY CANā€™T BE VACCINATEDā€¦So even thou my girls school are in person and theyā€™re vaccinatedā€¦ No Maā€™am. I canā€™t risk the babiesā€¦and the school will just have to give another optionā€¦Signedā€¦SCARED MOM

Yes. Most kids to better in person. My 7 year old had a lot of stress and anxiety doing virtual. She was so much happier at the end of the school year when she was able to go in person 4 days a week. If you child doesnā€™t have any major health concerns I think in person is better for mental health.

Yes mine went in person all last year with no problems I dont expect any this year.

Our school isnā€™t allowing virtual or requiring masks. Students, parents and staff may choose to wear them, but not required. They are very good about cleaning and sanitizing. Ours would be in person even if they allowed virtual.

Tried this last year in fear of a shut down and it never happened and online school was the worst experience ever. And I felt like my daughter didnā€™t get the learning she needed sense they just posted repeat assignments plus no social aspect what so ever. Plus you have to make sure they stay focused and on schedule or they donā€™t get the points for the day and zoom is ALWAYS having malfunctions.

Our kids are going in person. Our youngest went full time basically all of last school year. Oldest was hybrid & only got to be in person a few hours a day for the last couple months. This year every grade is supposed to go full time & we are ready for it! Our kids do just fine masking up, keeping distance & sanitizing. Our district follows all safety measures & we only got a few emails last year of someone with Covid at their different schools, but it wasnā€™t anyone our kids were around! Plus, weā€™ve already had Covid (except for our youngest) soā€¦ off to school they go!

I home schooled last year Iā€™m sending them in person this year.

Yes. Heā€™s entering high school this year. We had a conversation about distance learning and he told me he wouldnā€™t do his work if he had to stay home. I was proud of him recognizing that and telling me last year.

Mine have been in person!!! I do not believe in home or virtual school that is why teachers need college and state testing. My special needs daughter NEEDS in person due to therapists. My other children will also be in school they need to be around kids their own age, socialization, and we both need our breaks from one another 24/7.

My 3 have been going in-person all last year and just started back in person yesterday. They need the interaction and to be out of the house so that things can be as normal as possible. Mine are in 10th, 9th, and 6th though. So they have been going to school for awhile now.

In school learning, my kiddo learns better than at home also we both work so in school is definitely better for all of us.

Yes I am sending my kids. Itā€™s their first year, they were supposed to start last year but I didnā€™t send them due to covid. But this year is a go!

Homeschooling, theyā€™re not getting jabbed, not being masked and not being treated like terrorists for being naturally healthy instead of following the fear. I also just donā€™t like what public school teaches or other people putting into their heads things that donā€™t need to be there taking away their innocence

To me school is more than just learning history, math and spelling. School is about adaptation and socialization as well. At home my kids wonā€™t get the full package. Yes it means stopping and changing course if there is another shut down. However adapting to that is part an parcel. Mine will go and laugh with friends and adapt if need be. That is just this mommas idea anyway.

My kids were in person schooling all last school year. I plan to send them this year also

We have decided to keep our kids home. We were planning on sending our oldest but have changed our minds with everything that is going on.

Yes we went normal all last year too. There were no out breaks at our schools.

Mine are all out , my youngest graduated last Springā€¦it was not how we all envision your senior year of school. She was the only senior for softball ( her favorite of all) & didnā€™t get to play.

Where does it ever end? It never will. People need to step up. My children will be back in school as normal. Unless they force masks. Thatā€™s child abuse imo

In our state, kids are required to go unless we provide a doctorā€™s note saying they canā€™t attend due to conditions where they canā€™t where a mask. Elementary kids are required to wear masks here older kids (7th grade) and up are recommended but not required.

I have some serious respect for anyone who homeschools and or does distance learning. I had to for a few months until my daughter could return to school. If school is open she will be there!!!:pray::heart:

I am my son has been home since the beginning of everything and he misses his friends and leaving the house. Also he doesnā€™t seem to listen or do well with virtual so this is the better option

Nope, we are staying with online. We had a great experience last year and we will have a new baby this year, so we are wanting to keep everyone home and as consistent as possible

I live in South Dakota and our kids went all last year, no masks required. No shut downs and they played full sports schedules, along with other academic and non-academic activities. We live normal lives here and will continue to.

Iā€™m homeschooling this year, for my school aged kid it was different, he made straight Aā€™s during remote learning and had zero panic attacks. (Heā€™s on the spectrum) when they went back to face to face he started failing everything and I was picking him up once a week from school because the panic attacks were so bad they would make him vomit. :woman_shrugging: just have to do what works for your kid and you the best. They can still get social interaction. Although mine avoided the social interaction in public school lol but he plays just fine when we go to someoneā€™s house or they come to visit him.

My daughter will stay at home again. I know my daughterā€™s learning style and I am able to help her one on one and cater to her educational needs in a way that I know traditional school will not. She loves getting online and seeing her teachers and friends but she also gets to spend time with me. Iā€™ve been wanting to homschool her anyway so the coronavirus gave me the push.

Iā€™m so over this!! I just got an email about the kids having to wear mask at school. Iā€™m also to the point of virtual again. These kids need ā€œnormalā€ back

Iā€™m sending my first grader back this year , however if it ends up being shut downs back and forth like last year Iā€™ll switch him back to virtual for the remainder of the year

We are. I am scared but we canā€™t do another year at home. Their education would suffer to much. They will be in masks and hope for the bestā€¦but we are in Florida in the top hot spot of the nation right now and out district is taking zero precautionsā€¦ :frowning:

Mine were in person last year and my is daughter is (she started July 13th) and my son will be next week. Here masks are optional too.

If the school requires my 4th grader to wear a mask she will be virtual again this year. Last year she was completely virtual all year as was the whole schoolā€¦ They went back after Easter break , but she stayed virtual.

Our county has delayed the start of the school year until the 16th due to a surge in cases. Weā€™re in the red again and weā€™re not being given the option to do virtual this year. So mine will go when it actually starts back.

Iā€™m sending mine their in highschool and last time I kept them home I regretted itā€¦ kids need freedom too

We did homeschooling last year. But this year we will try back to school. They need their friends and social interaction. But im on the fence with this decision. I know my now fourth grade will do well with the mask but our now third grader is sensory sensitive. We will try but nothing is definite.

Yes because we both have to work so homeschool is not an option. Our private school was open most of last year and had almost zero cases.

In person. My daughter thrives with face to face and socialization with kids. Online was boring for her and she does so much better in school.

My daughter was in person last year, and will be in person again this year. Masks arenā€™t required this year, so Iā€™m nervous, but my daughter will be wearing her mask and Iā€™ll be praying she stays healthy.

Our 3rs grader is going to be IN CLASS. We did not do to well last year, with the remote learning ā€¦ and he truly misses the interaction with his friends and teachers.

In person, I donā€™t think my kids will be able to take another year of remote learning. Fortunately, theyā€™re old enough to be vaccinated

In person for 4 days now. We were notified yesterday of a student who tested positive :person_facepalming: Online wasnā€™t offered or he wouldā€™ve been at home.

Yes. My kids went 5 days a week last year and our district was successful at it. We will do it again this year

My kids went in person last year (6th and 10th grades). I taught first grade online. They had better outcomes.

My kids school district isnā€™t offering virtual this year so they have to and most definitely will wear their mask! Iā€™m so worried :persevere:

I was going to send my kids in person but with the delta variant exploding we had 3000 new cases in the last 2 days. I removed them and signed them up for homeschooling until a vaccine is available for my kids. My daughter was a preemie an has a weak immune system an my son is the same.

We are planning on homeschooling. Iā€™m guessing the vaccine will soon be a requirement. And before I get negative comments. The vaccine is not 100% , so you can still get it, meaning you can still transfer it. So to us, we think it is an unnecessary risk with unknown consequences.

Yes, because the school Iā€™m sending him to doesnā€™t force them to wear masks while theyā€™re learnimg/in the classroom. They donā€™t have them sitting close to each other.

Yes they need the Interaction for now is schools shut down again they shut down at least until then they get to socialize

Yes and I hope the other parents of the kids in my kids schools get their damn shot so we can all get past this variant and not do a repeat of the fuckery last year.

We sent them back last year to in person and had no issues. We are sending them again this year but are prepared for the possibility of another shut down

I opted out of in-person last year but opted in this school year because my kids will be starting middle school. Iā€™m in MA and our school district did an amazing job last year at the elementary level 100% remote academy.

Yes, my two children will be back in school. They attended the last two weeks last year and had so much fun being able to see and communicate with other students in class

Iā€™m sending my 5 year old. He has a baby sister at his dads, but is the only kid at my house. I feel like he really needs that social interaction.

Yes but only because he receives special services through the school.
