Did I take this too far?

I need to know was I in the wrong here. Both my mom and fiance are mad at me now. My boys go to public school and brought home head lice, so obviously the quickest way to get rid of them was to just shave their heads and clean their clothes to head off any spread to my house. Then of course I had to shave off my own hair because well... It itches and I was convinced I had lice. Now my mom and fiance are mad at me for cutting it all off...did I take it to far?

It’s hair and will grow back.

No it’s your head and head lice is super hard to get rid of if you have long thick hair. If I had the balls to do it I would too in that situation :woman_shrugging:

This can’t be real. :woman_facepalming:t3:

No do whatever you think is necessary for you. It’s your hair and hair does grow back !

At the end of the day you are mom and clearly did what you thought was the best and most effective way to rid the lice! Yes there are other ways that are effective but they can be expensive and take multiple treatments! It’s just hair and it will grow back! My only concern would be their bald heads in the middle of winter lmao

No screw them. They’re your kids and it’s your head

I rather be safe then sorry :woman_shrugging:t2: hair grow back

Not necessary but if it works go for it

No, it’s hair it will grow back, every couple years I get sick of my hair and shave it

If you were a man, they wouldn’t be mad.

I think it depends on how the boys felt about having their heads shaved.

Why didn’t you just treat your own hair with a lice treatment first???

That is the laziest way to get rid of lice…

It’s your own hair. Who cares?

My son had a Mohawk every wrestling season. Of course he would get a ring worm case (on the scalp) from the mats. At the end of season, we shaved his head. Guess what?!? The hair grew back! :exploding_head:
As far as your hair… it’s yours… it will grow back too! Head lice freaks me out too!

Really not necessary tbh quite extreme but it’s you’re choice I suppose

I’d do the EXACT same thing

Yes you took it too far. But it is your hair.

It’s your hair. It’ll grow back, so they really have nothing to say

Well I’d say you probably took it too far shaving your own head :joy: They don’t really have a reason to be mad tho.

This was definitely an extreme measure. While lice management is a little more difficult due to some pesticide resistant critters, you did not have to resort to shaving your or your children’s hair. BUT if this is something you wanted to do, and the kids were ok with it, I don’t see the issue.
Lice are manageable with consistency in combing out the eggs, using the proper products and frequently washing laundry, and even being treated at a professional salon. It does not need to end in shave heads.

Idk if you’re joking but there’s nothing wrong with a woman shaving off her head! I did a few years back and I loved it

I mean… are the kids your fiancé’s? Maybe you should have ran such a rash decision by him. Communication is key. How did the kids feel about it? I personally wouldn’t just start shaving heads.

I mean sure the boys hair why not, but your hair too?!? I would do everything to treat it before cutting all my hair off.

That’s equivalent to burning your house down because you saw a spider

Mayo could of helped get rid of it…

Nope last year I shaved my daughter hair and my son’s. I hate bugs of all kinds.

Hair grows back and the boys heads I would have shaved as makes life easier but as for my own hair I would have just gone through it with a nit comb and if by any chance I did have them then I’d get the treatment not shave it off , but everyone to there own

An overreaction in the moment, maybe, but it will all grow back so as long as your okay with your head being shaved then I don’t know why they are mad.

Lice is easily treatable with over the counter meds. And I say that as someone who got it from her own grandkid after camp. My hair is curly and waist length. You just need to follow the directions on the box.

I can understand the boys but your own hair seriously all you had to do was treat your hair with olive oil before you did There’s in the they could have never attached to you

I mean that’s one way.

I mean I don’t think discussiin would’ve been too much. Mayonnaise would’ve taken care of it… or a lice kit. I mean I don’t think I would’ve done that without talking to my fiance

It’s a scary thing… a little extreme for you but not the kids. It’s expensive to treat. Make sure you are using RX lice killer. You will have to treat more than once. Stay on top of it. No reason for anyone being mad.

The quickest way to get rid of head lice is to call the pediatrician and they will prescribe shampoo that doesnt require you to comb out anything.

This post and all the comments makes my damn head itch

Is everyone serious? It’s her hair? She can do whatever the hell she wants. If she doesn’t wanna think about it before doibv it go for it. Ffs I can imagine them saying bloody hell ya didn’t need to do that but for them to actually be mad with you, tell them to get a grip.

May have been a rash decision. But still your head and hair grows back. Buy some cute hats and scarves.

It’s just hair, it grows back. I always have pissed my family off by shaving most of my hair off just for the hell of it. I used to have a Mohawk not once not twice but about 5 times now. I’m just now letting my hair grow out after about 10 yrs of randomly shaving it or just the sides or just the back, it’s hair and it always comes back.

They make kits to get them out …

Depending on the kid that could be very traumatic. I know when they butchered my hair. I was bullied for months until it grew back. My kids caught it about a year ago. It literally took 2 days to get rid of it. I personally wouldn’t cut anyone’s hair over it. FYI I hope you treated your entire house. Couches, carpet, stuffed animals. If not you will just keep catching it and it doesn’t matter how short the hair is.

Lmao you pulled a Brittany this post is priceless

I mean… what happened to just treating their hair and urs? Idk if I would have shaved it off. Unless the boys were ok with it?

I’m a licensed cosmo. Shaving a head DOES NOT get rid of lice! They live on the scalp! You must still treat the head and everything in your home.

Wow, I would never shave my hair. There’s hair treatment. Omg, that’s to far

A little to far, ya… But, it’s only hair n as long as you felt it was needed for yourself…

A bit rash but next time know there are other treatments options

Do you boo. It’s not their hair💕

If you had girls would you just have shaved their heads as well?!?! Lice unfortunately is common in school age kids. And. I don’t know why you felt the need to say they are in public school. Cause trust me it’s in every school. It’s a pain in the rear. But, yea I think shaving their heads and yours was a bit extreme. Hopefully they (the kids) weren’t upset about it! They can get it multiple times a year.

Ahh…yes, you over reacted.

That’s ridiculous! It’s your hair! No one should be mad about what you do with it

Tbh I shaved my hair off for absolutely no reason last year . If they’re annoyed / upset because you didn’t tell them about shaving your sons hair I can understand that, but as for your hair it’s none of their business

If you would of dyed your hair it would of worked without shaving it

Not “mamas uncut” anymore lol

I mean…its easy to just treat your hair and comb out the nits. Theres no reason to ever shave your head over it. But hey if that’s what you wanted to do…its your hair. :woman_shrugging: btw you still need to treat all of your scalps and house.

Does it matter its YOUR hair, if you felt that was the best solution for you then so be it, let them be mad

Samsbeauty.com girl they have great lace wigs. Every time I wear one people ask me where I get my hair done. They always have sales

No lots of moms shave there boys hair for this or other reasons as of your hair its you body if your happy with that distinction then it wasn’t to far

Omg I can’t believe this lol

Hair grows back! And it’s your hair! And you made those kids! Definitely a quick decision but I totally get it! But make sure your still treating everything else in house!!

I shaved my head last year but it didn’t solve anything lol I would rather treat hair than shave it off because you still have your scalp to treat.

It’s just hair, it’ll grow back.

For head lice? Too far🤦🏻‍♀️

A bit of an overreaction but it’s your hair and your choice. Lice can be an absolute pain to get rid of.

Your head , your hair , it will grow

Simple answer is YES!

Lice lives on the scalp, not the hair. Any lice on the hair isn’t actually “alive” as they feed off the blood on your scalp! So shaving yours and their head has achieved absolutely nothing. You still need to treat the scalp. :woman_facepalming: (I am a licensed master cosmetologist)

No, girl. Just the mention of lice and I want to shave my head.

Lol im sorry i dont mean to laugh . But as a hairdresser… hunny it’s just hair it will grow back … now if it was a foot or a leg I could understand… your good

Yes they make combs shampoos and salons to get people lice free did you even ask if they wanted their heads shaved

Olivia Weinreich thank god our mom is smart

Yes you definitely over reacted just because you were told that day that a kid had head lice, doesn’t mean your boys hadn’t already brought home lice and it’s on your furniture… You didn’t even treat the house? You just shaved heads and called it a day? The scalp still needs treatment.

U took the lazy way out without any consideration of your children’s feeling. My opinion!

Didn’t have to shave there heads, there’s other ways to take care of it

Ummm just shaving heads and washing clothes isn’t guranteeing you are done. You gotta vaccuum carpets and around baseboards. Dry pillows in dryer at least 45 min. Bag up amy stuffed toys for 2 weeks. Wash and dry all bedding in house. You can’t be sure you caught it before it spread. They could have had it longer than you realize. Just because they discovered it that day doesn’t mean they caught that same day.

I mean it’s your hair. Regardless of why you shaved it off, it’s your hair so why does it matter to anyone else? If you wanted to shave your head because it’s Friday and that’s what you felt like doing is your business. They’ll get over it :woman_shrugging:

Shaving your head and theirs is a bit extreme but whats done is done. Heres the thing tho u said that was just the "quickest way " when u treat head lice u cant just treat the head u have to treat the whole house pillows blankets stuffed animals etc etc so if u didnt put in the work to rid ur house of head lice shaving ur heads alone wont resolve ur issue of head lice

I would shave mine too then deal with them little shits.

It’s pretty simple to get rid of without shaving your head. My daughter brought it home 3x in 4 months…bc schools don’t send anyone home.
Dawn, black trash bags and conditioner, plastic for the beds and hot washing clothes. It took me half a day. (Except the stuff in the bags, it sat in direct sunlight for 3 days to kill eggs and then it got washed)
If you’re ok with shaving it instead of treating, :woman_shrugging:.

I forgot to mention you need to spray beds and furniture with a lice spray too.

Is this real?

I mean surely it takes care of the problem but was unnecessary

Yes u took it too far for even shaving your kids hair

Yes way too far just buy the products and wash bedding on a hot wash

I would have slept with mayo or coconut oil in my hair overnight before shaving it. It will suffocate them.

Whiles it’s your hair, it definitely wasn’t needed. In order to help with lice you have to do so much more then just shaving the head and cleaning their clothes. Beds need washed, pillows, stuffed animals. Couches other furniture, car seats.

Not the approach I would take but to each our own I guess

It’s your head. Who gives a shit why you did it… they have no say :woman_shrugging:t2:

You do you honey. But I would have at least tried treatment first. I’ve dealt with lice before. My head got doused in mayo and tied up in plastic bags while I sanitized my entire house. Took 2 days. I kept my hair and took the lice away. :woman_shrugging:

Omg yes. That’s a bit extreme. Head lice can be taken care of without shaving heads. I used to work in PMIC facility and I combed out the nits in long, as well as textured hair and not once did we shave anyones heads. Good thing it will grow back.

I can’t even fathom why people are saying it’s ok for the kids but extreme for your hair. IT IS YOUR HAIR. YOURS nobody’s business what you do with your hair. If you have a normal healthy body that grows hair normally then it’ll grow back. Hate it? Wear a hat or a wig or a scarf. This is not fatal

Unless they wanted to go through their hair and pick it all out, it’s none of their business :woman_shrugging:t2: it’s so easy for people to tell you what to do with no effort on their part. Let them be mad.

No You Did The Right Thing

I wouldn’t have done it. You can get shampoo for it.

How many people are saying this is extreme but it’s YOUR head and YOUR hair. It will grow back and it’s not their choice to be mad about
