Did you get the TDAP vaccine while pregnant?

My husband & I both got the shot after delivery while still in the hospital.

Yep 2015, 2016, and 2019. They weren’t doing them when I had my first three 1999 to 2004.

I got it and was fine. Just sore arm is all.

I got it while at the hospital before my csection

I got it both times. No issues

I did with my 3 Rd he was born at 32 weeks but not from the vaccine I just don’t carry very long

Yes got it with both pregnancy. Highly recommend. They recommend anyone who will be close with baby to get or also. My husband got it with our son and will be getting it while in the hospital again this time.

Yes I had to do that injection together with the flu injection.

I got it, only had an itchy arm.

I got it and I and my son were perfectly fine and healthy. No symptoms and no weird feelings all was well. Really it’s a personal choice, too many people have too many opinions on vaccinations so it all falls down to your choice and your own personal beliefs

I’ve gotten it during all 3 of my pregnancies. No problems here.

I personally declined for both my pregnancies due to a life threatening medical vaccine allergy. Neither of my kids have ever gotten the disease & both are 100% healthy.

However, my experience and the experiences of those who post here may not reflect your personal experience so it is important that you are aware of all the potential risks before you provide concent so that you don’t have any potential regrets later if things don’t go as well as you hope, regardless of your decision.

Pertusis is commonly misdiagnosed as a common cold in the early stages. The disease worsens after about 2 weeks to something that appears like bronchiolitis which, when treated with a nebulizer, high doses of vitamin c and antibiotics will average about 2 weeks. You will recover, and have life long antibodies that are passed on to your baby through breastfeeding.
There is a mutation of pertussis which is known as B. Parapertusis or Bordetella Parapertusis which has similar symptoms, but is not nearly as severe and is commonly misdiagnosed as often those who have received the TDaP vaccine may never develop the “whooping” sound that characterizes this disease. Often it will appear in vaccininated individuals as the common cold, and then may or may not develop into bronchitis. It is usually treated successfully with antibiotics, nebulizer or inhaler, and high dose vitamin c.
Both forms of this disease are only spread through coming into contact with water droplets from an infected person’s cough, and transmission to your infant can be avoided simply by asking anyone who has a cough to refrain from visitation or asking visitors to wear masks and wash their hands.

The TDaP is about 85% effective against pertussis. It is 0% effective against Bordetella Parapurtusis. Both forms of pertussis can result in severe complications for infants.

The TDaP vaccine has not been proven to prevent the spread of pertussis. What the vaccine is designed to do is prevent symptoms of the disease so that it isn’t as likely develop into complications. The reason they ask pregnant moms to get the DTaP is because if the mom gets Pertussis during pregnancy, complications can result in the loss of her baby. After birth, until about a year old, your baby is protected by the antibodies in your breastmilk. However, this only applies with natural immunity. It is not known if antibodies from vaccines are passed through breastfeeding or not because no studies have been done. Truthfully, asking everyone to get the DTaP is not going to protect your baby, because like I said, the vaccine only prevents symptoms. Studies were done that showed vaccinated individuals once exposed to the virus actually had a higher likelihood of transmission of the virus than those who were not vaccinated, and in addition not show symptoms of the disease to indicate they were a carrier. Roughly translated: your husband can get the tdap, become exposed to the virus when he’s out shopping, get whooping cough and never think he had anything more than the common cold if he’s lucky enough to show symptoms at all. If he coughs on your baby, your baby, who may or may not be protected by your breastmilk has just been exposed to the whooping cough and may or may not get it from your vaccinated husband who is now a carrier of the disease and doesn’t know it.

The best protection you can give your baby against whooping cough after birth is to ask visitors and hospital personnel to wear masks and wash their hands before touching the baby regardless of vaccination status.

Now, about the vaccine:

Effectiveness:
https://www.nvic.org/vaccines-and-diseases/whooping-cough/vaccine-effectiveness.aspx

Adverse reactions:

https://www.drugs.com/sfx/boostrix-tdap-side-effects.html
https://www.drugs.com/sfx/adacel-tdap-side-effects.html

You should also be aware that although you may not have any adverse reactions, or very minor ones… the baby in your womb may have a serious reaction that could result in fetal demise and miscarriage or severe, lifelong disability. It is unknown if this vaccine is safe for your baby or not while it is in your womb, because safety studies in pregnancy is considered unethical.

This vaccine contains a combination of aluminum, and polysorbate 80, which have been known to cause transverse myelitis.

This vaccine was made using ingredients that are neither halal, kosher, or vegan approved as well as several potential allergens and chemicals that have been categorized as being harmful to human health on the website for poison control. If you are pro-life, you should also be aware that the pathogens this vaccine contains were grown using tissue from an aborted fetus.

If you are uncomfortable with the potential side effects or any of the ingredients this vaccine contains, there is a much safer alternative you can get called homeoprophalaxis, which has been shown to be equally effective at disease prevention.

Your choice to be vaccinated or not with either the flu shot or the tdap or both should be 100% discussed with your doctor, and he or she should go over all the ingredients and adverse reactions with you and answer any questions you may have.

If after discussing your concerns with your doctor you choose to provide concent to either of the two vaccines that are offered during pregnancy, here is some information you will want to familiarize yourself with… just in case.

flu shot reactions:
https://www.drugs.com/sfx/flublok-quadrivalent-side-effects.html

Tdap reactions

adacel:
https://www.drugs.com/sfx/adacel-tdap-side-effects.html

boostrix:
https://www.drugs.com/sfx/boostrix-tdap-side-effects.html

If you are experiencing symptoms of a vaccine reaction, then you need to report the reaction both to your doctor and to vaers. Here is the link you will need to report your reaction. https://vaers.hhs.gov/

Reporting adverse reactions is especially important during pregnancy as there are no safety studies that currently exists on either the flu vaccine or the Tdap for pregnant women, and a serious reaction may result in the loss of your baby.

I got it with each pregnancy and had no issues. My kids were born healthy, too. My arm hurt at the injection site, but that’s normal, and went away on its own.

Yes, both pregnancies. No side effects at all.

I got it. Just a sore arm afterwards

I got it with my last baby no side effects

Yes get it! It protects you and protects the baby when it is born!

Personally I decline all shots while pregnant.

I got it for both of my babies and had no side effects

I got it. I did it to protect my baby. Pertussis is so deadly to little ones and they aren’t able to get a vaccine until 2 months old. I also got my flu shot when I was pregnant. He was born in October last year and so far has never even had the sniffles

I didn’t get anything… I am in Canada… not sure if they don’t offer it??

I did and plan to for future pregnancies. No side effects besides a sore arm where it was for about a week. That surprised me but easy to live with.

Yes I got it with all 3

I had it just sore arm for few hours - (like you’d lifted to many weights at gym)

The only side effect I had was my arm was a sore.

Yes and my husband was told he had to get one to so we both got one

I got it. It helps protect baby. Her dad and all other immediate family that were going to be around her often got it as well. No side effects other than a sore arm.

I got it at my first OB Appt after giving birth.

Yes, no side effects except for a super sore arm muscle for a few days.

Nope. No shots for me or either of my babies, Ever.

No shot for me! Not because I didn’t want it but insurance didn’t want to pay for it and I didn’t want to pay $50!

I got it and my arm was sore for a week. But that was all

I got it with my first pregnancy and will be getting it with this one.

They had me get mine after I delivered but this was back in 2010

No side effects lmao

Yes, I got mine.
No side effects from it at all other than the sore arm, which didn’t last very long. Like 2 or 3 days tops.

I’ve had it with both. No side effects besides a slightly sore arm for 24 hrs

My dr made me get it and there were no side effects

I said “no” because when my SIL was pregnant she had anyone that would be close to my nephew get it and a day after I had the vaccine I was in the hospital for 24 hours. :woman_shrugging:

Yes, no problems. I also made everyone in my family get it before they could visit. It was actually beneficial for my parents and and inlaws since they can get it and have their own issues with it too.

I got it a few weeks ago. No issues.

I got it both times and have had no side effects

I got no problems not even a sore arm.

People need to stop being sheep and actually RESEARCH AND READ inserts for themselves!
Doctors can’t MAKE you do ANYTHING and they Don’t know everything either.
They are regular people just like you and I.
They aren’t gods and they don’t know our research every little thing.
Reminder, they get paid by pharma.

Nope. We know drugs cross the placental barrier, so what other chemicals from the vaccine are crossing that barrier? No one knows. It’s not worth the risk. I waited until after the baby was born. Antibodies come through your breast milk.

I wasnt asked if I wanted it or not

I got it and I’m totally fine. It’s best and safest for baby.

I didn’t get it! I didn’t want any extra shots while pregnant since I already had to deal with needles too often while in my pregnancy. I didn’t get the flu shot either

I got it 3 times, no side effects

Ive had it like 4 times in 5 years now. 3 babies. Not a big deal its just your tetnis shot

So did my husband and our parents

Yes I got it with all 3. You get it so your babes can build the immunity cause they can’t get the shot when born.

Nope I didn’t get it! All my babies were born healthy

I got it bc my dr basically harassed me to get it (I didn’t want to):joy: I regret it though bc it left me with a cough for a really long time.
