Do babies born at 37 weeks need the NICU?

My 37 weeker spent two weeks for lung temp and sugars problems . I also had a c section . My boy weight 7lbs 7oz

Iā€™m diabetic and all my babies were delivered at 36 weeks. They were all fine at time of delivery. Only scare I had was with my last one but it was because her umbilical cord was wrapped around her but got her out on time

My babe was born at exactly 37 weeks. Small but fine :two_hearts::two_hearts::two_hearts:

My granddaughter was born at 37 weeks and my daughter received the 2 steroid shots a week prior. She was in NICU but not for long I believe a day just to observe. 5 lbs and so tiny but at 2 months healthy as ever now! Trust the doctors youā€™ll be fine!!

Yes some babies doā€¦ my son was born 37weeks 2 days weighting in at 8lbs 3 ozā€¦he had to be sent to a NICU in a bigger city our hospital did not have oneā€¦ I couldnt go with him I was a c section and liabilityā€¦didnt get to see him till 2 days later and had all the tubes and machines and Ivs he spent 2 weeks in the nicu and then he came homeā€¦ he is now 12

I didnā€™t have gestational diabetes my son was born at 36 weeks weighing 7lbs8oz healthy and wellā€¦ wishing u and ur baby well ā€¦

Sometimes, two of my sons were born at 36 and 37 weeks. The 37 weeker was in for 1 day, the 36 weeker was in for almost 3 weeks.

My daughter was born at 30 weeks weighing 1lb 13oz. She spent 6 months in NICU. Sheā€™s now 14.

I had my son 37 weeks 4 days due to his heart not jumping right and staying at one beat and he was 8lbs 4ozs

I had my youngest son at 36 weeks and 5 days. He was 7 lbs and no NICU. My last baby was born at 34 weeks and was 5 lbs 8 oz and no NICU. My oldest was born at 39 weeks and 4 days was 7lbs 14oz and spent 5 days in the NICU. Every baby is different.

My daughter was born at 37 weeks with an induction because I had high blood pressure, she didnā€™t need the NICU. We stayed one extra night because she was jaundiced a little but since then sheā€™s been perfectly healthy. Good luck momma!!

So gestation doesnā€™t always mean your baby WONā€™T go to the NICU, but at the hospital where I had my 3 babies their protocol was any baby born earlier than 35 weeks was an automatic NICU admission. 37 weeks is close enough to full term that they typically donā€™t worry. The longest Iā€™ve ever carried was 36 weeks and my youngest was my only NICU baby. Hope this helps a little mama. Just breathe and take care of yourself. Thatā€™s the best thing you can do for baby right now.

My youngest was born at 35 weeks 3 days and he was perfectly healthy just a little small at 17 inches and 5 lb 14 ounces. :woman_shrugging:t2: I think it just depends on the baby

My baby was born at 32 weeks and she was basically fine. She was tube fed because she lacked the suckle reflex and she had a hard time controlling her blood sugar. That was pretty much it.

My son was born at 36 weeks and spent no time in the NICU. I wouldnā€™t worry.

All three of mine were 37 weeks. Only the first was gestational diabetes. He was the biggest. Actually probably too big. He should have been a c section. To this day I am glad he didnā€™t wait any longer.
Oh. And none of them ended up on the NICU.

Your considered full term by 37 weeks :slightly_smiling_face: so as long as he or she is healthy besides being born 3 weeks early they shouldnā€™t need the nicu  good luck for a safe & easy delivery !!

NICU is necessarily decided by gestationā€¦40 weekers can go and 36 weeks might not. My daughter was born at 36 weeks and she had low blood sugar, they monitored her in the nursery and had protocol that they had to follow for any baby born before 37 weeks, but she was in my room within a few hours and remained there.

I had my child at 37 weeks and I have type 2 diabetes. He did not need NICU. He was monitored for his sugar levels but found to be maintaining his own and they treated him as a normal birth.

I didnā€™t have GD, but I had PROM with my oldest and he was born at exactly 37 weeks. He stayed in my hopital room for a week bc of jaundice (the vacuum popped off his head during labor) but never a NICU stay. I think it just depends on the health of the baby at birth.

It depends on weight and stats my daughter was born at 37 weeks and she was 7lb 6oz ! They asked if i had diabetes! I cant imagine how big she would of been with 3 weeks left lol

My son went to the NICU for two days then we transferred to a special room so they could keep an eye on him. I even had two shots for his lungs. Daughter was born at 37 didnā€™t need nicu

My daughter was born at 37 weeks. She had jaundice and an infection so she was in the NICU for a week getting antibiotics. Most babies born at 37 weeks donā€™t need to go to the NICU. It depends on their health, size, etc.

I had to have a c section at 37 weeks exactly. Iā€™m a type 1 diabetic. She was measuring big and was breech at 36 weeks so I couldnā€™t be induced. She came out 8 lbs 5 oz and no NICU time. We both we there 2 days and released.

When my children were born and the oldest is 40 years old they were born at 36 weeks or around that . Doctors back then said you carry your baby 9 months most months have 4 weeks in them 9 times 4 is 36 . Now doctors say 10 months or 40 weeks . But most babies born after 36 weeks do fine . The NICU is unbelievable my grandson was born at 32 weeks weighing 4.8 lbs and spent a month in the NICU because he got fluid in his lungs that setup an infection because my daughters doctor told us the babies date was set and he was never wrong on the date . I almost lost my daughter and grandson because of that doctor. Praying all goes great for you and your sweet one . Try not to stress turn it over to God

My son was born at 36 weeks and did great. He was healthy. The only thing that happened was he had to go in a month later for jaundice because I tried breast feeding but didnt realize I wasnt producing enough milk and was starving him. But at 37/38 weeks your baby should be very healthy.

2 of my babies were taken between 34 and 37 weeks and both were healthy and big enough to come home from the hospital with me, with the first born that early they did an amniocentesis to make sure her lungs were developed, at 35 weeks they were not so they waited one more week to induce. She was little but she did come home when I left the hospital with no time in the NICU

40 weeks could still end up in the nicu . My son was born at 37 weeks exactly & had to be in the nicu because of severe breathing complications due to aspirated fluid . Just something you never know what will happen.

I had my daughter at 37 weeks and she didnā€™t need to be in the NICU.

My daughter had her twins at 37 weeks they both did really well one had to be observed a little bit because they were born csection since they was breach and the fluid didnā€™t get pushed out of the lungs like it would with a vaginal birth

I was a gestational diabetic with my youngest he was?delivered @ 37- 38 weeks and was fine . surprised the docs that he was only 7 lbs 12 oz. I found at 5 weeks and had?to take insulin the last 3 months so i did everything to watcg my diet etc

I was induced with My 4ā€™th child who will be 1 in a couple months due to blood pressure issues (as with my other pregnancies) at 35 weeks and 6 days he weighed 5 lbs. 10 ozā€™s we were in the hospital 5 days but he never had to go to the NICU they actually said he was doing better than some full term babies.

My youngest was approx 36 and had a 5 day stay but that was caise he had no prenatal and they thought he breathed muconium

Every baby is different but my last one came at 37 weeks and they took her for an hour only Bc they wanted to triple check she was fine since she was early but that was it she was totally fine and never left me again

My first child was born at 34 weeks. He was 5lbs 10oz he spent 4 days in the hospital after birth for jaundice. But came home and was perfectly fine.
My second was born 2 months early. I was 32 weeks. She was 3lbs 9 oz. She sayed in for 31 days till she was able to be 5 lbs and unfortunately had SVT but with medication she is fine
(When I was younger I had back surgery so my body was not able to fully carry a child to full term)
As long as your baby is healthy and 5 lbs they will be able to come home with little to no worry.
I hope the best for you and Hopfully you and baby are safe

My daughter was born at 35w5d. She was in a pressurized incubator for almost 12 hours but we went home 18 hours later. Sheā€™s 5 1/2 and hasnā€™t had any effects from being a little early.

My 1st born was born at 35 weeksā€¦ he was in Nicu for 10 days just because he couldnā€™t get the drinking downā€¦ had a NG tube in his nose for a couple days but pulled it out& they never put it inā€¦ He would just drink slower cuz he was confused with the sucking and swallowingā€¦he was 5lbs 6oz and healthyā€¦ a little jaundice but wasnā€™t on any Oxygen or monitors

Just depends on infants health. My daughter was born at 38 weeks and had to be incubated in the nursery, she was only 5lbs 3 oz. my son born at 37 weeks was 8lb 8oz and only went to nursery for me to sleep.

At 37 weeks you are considered full term. You will only know if NICU is needed when baby is here. If the doctor are predicting a healthy baby now then I wouldnā€™t worry. Even small babies 4lb babies can go home at 37 weeks.

Depends upon the babyā€¦ I had a 4# at 32 weeks who never needed oxygen or a ventilator and only stayed 10 days in the NICUā€¦ My other one was born at 6#11oz at 36 weeks and went home the next dayā€¦

It depends, every baby is different heres 3 different storys

I know a girl who delivered at 33/34 weeks and her baby went to the nicu for like a week but really dident need to be there he was awesome

My sister had a baby at 35 weeks, her baby required 1 month in the nicu!

I had my son at 36+5 , he was perfect and had no issues at all and needed no nicu time whatsoever ( I had GD, cholestasis , IC)

My baby girl was just born last November at 35 weeks due to complications on my end. She was fine a little small but fully developed and no problems latching.

I donā€™t understand the weeks thing, they just went by months when my children were born. One of my daughters was born on Sept 30th and she was due Oct 31st. She weighed 5# 11oz and they kept us in the hospital (back when they kept you until they knew you were ok). We were there an extra day because she lost weight, but with nursing she gained the weight back fast and went home at 5#, she was 17 inches long and wore clothes I had for a baby doll. They didnā€™t have preemie clothes then. Your doctor can tell you more than anyone on here because they know your pregnancy better than we do.

Pregnancy normally lasts 38-42 weeks. So if you deliver at 37 weeks the baby is fully ready for life outside the womb. Iā€™ll bet your dr is concerned about the baby being too large for you to deliver vaginaly. Please try not to worry. Get some rest and relax. Youā€™ll do just fine!!!

I had identical twins with high blood pressure and gestational diabetes at 37 1/2 and they were both 6 lbs 10 ozs and healthyā€¦no bed rest worked til I went in

It really depends on the baby, their health and wellbeing is foremost!
My son was born 36+4 and although a tiny 5lb 11oz he needed no special care! X

I was induced at 37 weeks with my only son due to me having to take blood thinner to carry him. He was a perfectly healthy 7 lb baby

My son was born 36 weeks and 6 days and had to spend 12 days in hospital his lungs werenā€™t developed all the way. He was 7lbs 7oz.

My son was born at 37 weeks and was not in the NICU

In had my daughter at 36 weeks. She weighed a whooping 6 lbs 1 oz. With no complications at all. I was having to take supplements through IV twice a week and we assumed it would affect her. She was completely healthy.

Usually babyā€™s that a born with mom with gestational diabetes usually babyā€™s bigger than usual thatā€™s why they induce (what my doctors told me anyways) I never had it but my babyā€™s are huge (dads family history) I was induced at 37 weeks woth healthy 11ibs baby lol other moms with babyā€™s that early are usually 5-7 ibs babyā€™s where Iā€™m from lol I wouldnā€™t worry to much

I had gestational diabetes and my baby was born at 38 weeks, 7lbs 14oz, no NICU, latched on to breastfeed in the recovery room.

It all depends on the baby, and if they have any sugar issues.

My daughter was 36 weeks and 4 days , no NICU it all depends on breathing. She was 5 lbs 12

My son was a 37 weeker
and spent no time in the NICU

My baby was 9lbs 9oz at 37 weeks and he went to the NICU. He inhaled amniotic fluid and was on oxygen. Itā€™s possible for every shape, size and color.

I saw my obgyn Thursday I am nearly 36 weeks I am being induced becayse Iā€™m on clexane at around 37.5 weeks she said everythingā€™s normal at 37 weeks
I donā€™t have any diabetes or issues though

I had the destional diabetes and had all my kids at that 38 weeks I was induced

I had gestational. My 37+1 was 10lbs :grimacing:
My first was 38 and 7lbs 4oz

Diabetic babies tend to trend big at 38 weeks

My dr scheduled me for a c-section at 39 weeks. I have epilepsy and while I was pregnant I was borderline diabetic(just had to check my blood levels 4x a day) I had 2 seizures, one at 37 weeks(Nov 12th) then the next one at 38 weeks (Nov 19th) My dr thought it best to deliver my daughter the next day on November 20th. She came it totally healthy , 7lbs 5ozā€¦ Donā€™t worry, everything should be fineā€¦ Hope that helpsā€¦ I wish you the best of luck :kissing_heart:

All situations are gonna be different. Mine was born at 37 weeks and he didnt but I had to stay 2 or 3 days due to high bp. ā€¦ Iā€™m 33 weeks and 5 days right now with my 4th and theyā€™re trying to get me as close to 37 weeks right now so he womt need NICU

I had my sone at 37 weeks because of gestational diabetes also and he latched on and i was able to bring him home when i left no nicu needed. Each baby is different tho.

My twins were born at 33w4d and they were fine one day in the nicu they are 26 now and graduated college summa cum laude

Prayers for you and your little guyšŸ™

I had my daughter 2 months early and didnt need itā€¦now sheā€™s 13 and healthier then shit lol oh and did I mention a little turd :joy:

Good luck but hope not

If you go in later at 38 weeks they wonā€™t stop it. Your due date can be off two weeks in either direction. At 37-38 weeks baby can be considered full term.

Paula Rissanen-Dixon??

I am diabetic and had all four of mine early at 36 weeks and dr did a amniocentesis before inducing to make sure their lungs were developed.

I had my oldest son at 36+3, he was 8lbs 11oz, we went home 2 days later.

All depends on apgars

My grandson came a month early they had a respiratory specialist on standby but he was fine came home the next day

I had mine at 34,35,36,34 weeks. The only one that needed the NICU was my last baby because they didnā€™t give me the steroid shot that helps their lungs to get stronger. My last was in the NICU for 8days but she was healthy. She just needed the help with breathing until her lungs could catch up.

My oldest and youngest were born at exactly 37 weeks. No NICU & did just fine.

Not all do when I had my last there was a lady on the ward who had a perfectly healthy baby at 36 weeks went home the next day

I had my son at 37 weeks due to gestational diabetes and also developed preeclampsia at 35 weeks my son was born perfectly healthy he didnā€™t breastfeed but he didnā€™t need any help with anything my sons 7 months old and Iā€™m currently pregnant again with another son Iā€™m 22 weeks and have the diabetes again Iā€™m just taking pills this time around but will be induced at 37 weeks if not earlier

I had my 4th baby at 37 weeks no problems

My baby was born at 37 weeks 8 weeks ago! I got to leave the hospital day she was born!! It all depends on how the baby is doing when their born! I wish you the best of luck, just keep positive thoughts! :two_hearts:

Itā€™s not a silly questionā€¦my first was 34 weeks 7lb 5oz no special care the second was 36 weeks 8lb 2oz needed special care incubator for a week ā€¦otherwise no problems every one is different trust your drs theyā€™re the expertsā€¦my kids are now 31 and 24 all grown up  enjoy your baby

My daughter was born at 32 weeks and she is 30 now.

I would push to hold out to at least 38

Not necessarily, my eldest was born 36wks stayed with me and home in 2days, my youngest born 37wks but need to go up to the baby unit because of breathing problems, depends on baby :baby:

My oldest delivered at 34 weeks, My second was born at 35.5, 3rd 37 weeks and 4th at 39 weeks. No NICU related to gestation :relaxed: good luck!:crossed_fingers:t2::pray:t2:

I gave birth to all my children at 36 weeks no problem at all .

I had a baby at 33 weeks she was small but healthy

I had my daughter 6 weeks before her due date and even though she was born preemie she came out absolutely healthy. She was mistaken for a doll till she was nearly a year but she wasnā€™t put into the NICU. Not all babies need to be in the womb for 40 weeks itā€™s just whatā€™s preferred.

I think every situation is different. Iā€™d talk to your doctor and ask for sure :heartpulse:

My daughter was induced at 37 weeks due to her stopped growing n I had an infection starting in my water and she needed no help what so ever she weighed 4lb 13 oz

No. I had diabetes with my daughter who is four now. I was induced at 36 weeks. She was considered full term. She was a perfect, healthy baby girl.

It doesnā€™t sound stupid! You have a concern about your baby, never worry how it sounds.

I think it would depend on bubs lungs being mature and needing no help . If it makes you feel better I was a month premmie 4 lbsā€¦ 50 years ago lol. Iā€™m sure everything will go fine. All the best.

It just depends my daughter was born at 37 weeks and she was only in the nicu because she had jaundice we were able to take her home as soon as her levels were normal.

Had my daughter at 36+6 and she was in NICU for 4 days. She was fine though

Depends on the baby. My little guy was born at 38+1 and didnā€™t need the nicu. My sister had her baby at 37 weeks due to preeclampsia and she stayed in the nicu for a week as she was only 2.1kgs.

Both my children were born at 37 1/2 weeks and they were both healthy. Technically anywhere from 38-42 weeks is considered full term.

I just had my 3rd girl on July 10th at 36 weeks. (my other kids were over due too)
She was in the Nicu for a few hours only for monitoring for her blood sugar and temperature and I was able to take her home the next day

My middle was born at 37 weeks. 6 pounds. Didnā€™t need nicu

Every child is differentā€¦ Ive seen them come home when born at 36 weeks with no nicu ive also seen 37 weeks need nicuā€¦

Depends on the health of the baby. My oldest was born at 37 weeks, over 7 pounds and healthy. 37 weeks is considered full term I believe.

My son I had gestational diabetes with and had to have him at 36 weeks 5 daysā€¦ he weighed 10lb. 9oz. Bornā€¦ They took him early bcus for the last month before having him my sugar levels and blood pressure started really getting wonky and I went in for a nst and my son wasnā€™t responding anymoreā€¦ They were rocking my stomach on the ultrasound trying to get him to move anythingā€¦ For almost an hourā€¦ So they took him ā€¦when I had him his sugar levels were dangerously low and had to be given glucoseā€¦ They were supposed to take him at 39 weeksā€¦ He did not have to stay extra at the hospitalā€¦ He had a slight heart murmur but cleared before we left the hospitalā€¦ He just had to pass his sugar level test before he could be dischargedā€¦witch he didā€¦ I just had to feed him every two hours instead of waiting on him wanting to feed whenever heā€™s hungry to keep it upā€¦ Heā€™s healthy and 2 years old nowā€¦ I just depends on the situation and the childs health ā€¦ But most usually can go home without needing to stay longerā€¦they just take them early so you donā€™t have a higher risk of still born ectā€¦
