How can my daughter enjoy vacation while on her period?

You maybe surprise I learn about my cycle and everything through my friends I went home and should my mom blood in my underwear and she showed me the box told me to walk to the store down the road and buy some pads I had my cycle for two mths before telling her because I was embarrassed she had never talk to me about it but I learn from friend this was 45 yrs ago I’m sure her friends and commercial tv thought her already stop worrying mom

Tampons are durable. As far as the cup- if your looking to avoid carrying tampons and such- they’re great. They do need to be washed regularly but I know I personally don’t leak with them and there’s a smaller chance of TSS. That being said it is your daughters decision on what she wants to use. She should be comfortable with whatever option SHE chooses. It’s her period and not the Middle Ages. It’s not like you’re buying her a double sided dildo. Just ask what she feels comfortable with using and give her information on each one

Tampons are cleaner, neater, less conspicuous under her bathing suit and NO she won’t lose her virginity using them! I didn’t!

Your only option really is tampons… let her use them during just the water activities…

You dont bleed in the water…when in the water dont worry about it…dont wear anything. And just throw a pad on if shell be out of the water for an extended period of time

I’m just getting my head around the fact there’s a “period” app? :open_mouth::joy:

Stop being a weirdo and let the girl wear tampons? Is this real life? Lmao

You don’t feel comfortable? What about her? She’s going through this, not you. Check with her to see what she’s comfortable with and give her options. This isn’t about you and your comfort, this is about her

If you have any friends or family that know anything about Young Living Essential Oils, check with them.

Tampons equal freedom. And with our smart phones you can set up a timer to remind you when it’s time to change it! Just in case you’re too busy enjoying your vacation!!

There’s a great company called thinx. They make period-proof underwear and swim-wear. Super comfortable. No leaking. Could be an option.

She’s old enough for tampons.

Don’t go by apps they’re wrong as you may say they can be off at times but you can still enjoy your

Put her on birth control so she can skip periods.

Not sure what’s wrong with tampons.

Seriously…THIS is an issue?

Let her wear tampons for crying out loud.

Let her use tampons!!!

Wish that’s the only problem I had wow

I have friends who use these for their tweens and love them!

you can get tablets from the gp to stop her period while she on holiday so check it out with the gp

The cup also needs to be inserted just like the tampon. A tampon can just be flushed especially if she will be out in public. My daughter started using them when she was young for special times like your talking about. Enjoy your vacation!

Unfortunately this will not be the only time in her life that it comes at a bad time.

If a 13 year old is having very heavy periods, it is time to go see a doctor and get her some help and relief.

There are new period bathing suits that work! Google Ruby Luv period swim suits. They work. I know 2 young pre teens that use them.

So you have a solution you just won’t let her use it. She’s not allowed to use tampons, why? My mom showed me how to use one at 12 for this exact reason.

Let her decide and realize its a part of life and she will have to deal with it 4ever just like the rest of us

This post is ridiculous

Teach her to use a tampon so she can ask you questions or whatever that what they are for !! Its a vacation and being out n about active will help ease the cramping theres always bathrooms so she can change it as needed …when i was younger my mom.was a pad girl personally i find pads unsanitary feels like a diaper so i always prefered tampons im sure your daughter can adjust to it just make sure not to pressure her into feeling like she cant wear a tampon and swim and enjoy her vacation

Again, this has nothing to do with nails. This page should change their name… I’m out. :v:t2:

Good question, Athlene!

I insisted on tampons at age 12! Never had a problem. Swimming, biking, light summer colors. Switch to pads for sleep.

And it’s her period her body, she is a woman now. It doesn’t matter if you don’t feel comfortable with tampons. There’s nothing sexual about a tampon.

I’m concerned about your look on periods tho.

“I’m so sad”
“It’s disgusting”
“I’m so upset”

Me and my girls go places like this with periods and don’t evergreen give it a thought. Pop in a tamp and go about your day.

Why does menstrual cups sound disgusting? You’re less likely to suffer from toxic shock syndrome. It’s a cheaper alternative and yes you’ll get more touchy with your vagina bit It’s not obscene.
You fold and insert.
Then you pull the rubber tip and empty out the blood into the toilet.
Simple.
Make sure you wash your hands before and after.
Also, this happens. Your daughter can have fun sun bathing or try this alternative to tampons that can kill you.

A link to menstrual cup info.

So we just went on vacation last week and my 13 yr old as i expected would be on hers that week so we bought thin pads… i had a conversation before we left because i wanted to know how she felt about an alternative in case her cycle started because she only wears pads, but guven they would be in water and stuff i would have allowed the tampons. But she was only comfortable wearing pads. Everything worked out. It wasnt a messy situation, she was fine

My daughter started wearing tampons when she was 13. It’s just part of life:woman_shrugging:t2: tampons have NOTHING to do with sexual activity:roll_eyes: why would u ruin a whole vacation over not wanting her to wear a tampon?!!:weary::woman_facepalming:t4:

Wear a tampon. I did at 13 to swim. Had nothing to do with sex for me. My mom actually put the 1st tampon in for me

Tampons are actually really bad for your health. Pads allow the blood and lining to come out when it’s ready to, which is what’s suppose to happen, tampons don’t. Tampons absorb the blood but then it’s still in you till you take the tampon out. They create worse cramps, they can actually cause you to swell down there if not inserted right which is very uncomfortable, they can even lead to fertility problems if they aren’t used properly. I feel like a vacation definitely isn’t the right time or place to switch to that just in case she doesn’t like them or she does it wrong and it makes her uncomfortable the entire time. Also the period cup is called a diva cup and you insert it and when you go to the bathroom you have to take it out and dump it out and then rinse the cup before reinserting it. To me the whole idea has always seemed gross. I had a friend that tried them once and said she will never use it again because it’s too messy and you risk bleeding everywhere when you go to rinse it out and bathroom trips take way longer than they should. I’d stick with pads unless she wants to try something new. Usually if you’re in the water you don’t bleed, at least I’ve never bled while in water, just gotta make sure that as soon as you get out of the water your goal is to change clothes and put a new pad on as soon as possible.

WTC is a period app. She’ll be fine and if not, that’s on her. You requested off work and can’t redo it. Tell her to deal with it

Allow her to wear tampons that is really the only thing you can do if u want her to enjoy her time there is she won’t wear a cup there’s really only 2 options if you are wanting her to enjoy the vacation

What the hell does this have to do with nails? Lol

Haven’t tried them but what about the swimwear that is for periods?

Use tampons for fuck sake its not a big deal jeez

Can have her exercise it lightens the period and also delays it from coming atleast for me I struggle with horrible periods but once I started exercising it’s been way better they don’t last as long and they’re much lighter

Swimming diapers idk where you could get bigger sizes

My daughter has the cup . She is 15 now has had cup for about a year . She said it was painful inserting it she also thinks tampons hurt . She gets herself grossed out when she has to rinse it out .

I know she’s young, and doesn’t “need” birth control, but the hormones in the birth control will stop her period from coming until the pack is gone. I’d say start a week or week and a half before leaving to get it through her system, in order to stop it. Then after your vacation you can ditch the pills all together… just an idea.

I don’t understand… I thought this was a nails page. Unfollowing.

Tampons, cup, or discs are my go-to!

I would recommend birth control just for a month or so to skip.

Period undies and period swimmers.

I’m not sure if it would be allowed at such a young age… I was going to a wedding a few years ago and asked my doctor if I could be prescribed anything to stop or at least lighten my period so I didn’t have to keep worrying about it throughout the day/night. He prescribed me something called Noresthisterone… I started taking it a week before the day and I had no period at all… Stopped taking it and had my period as usual…:tipping_hand_woman:

Ruby Love is the best! Use it for my step daughters and works really well.

Menstrual cups take practice and they can be very messy while you are in the learning curve for how to remove & empty them and if you don’t have them in the proper place they can leak so I would start off with letting her try tampons which are safe these days as long as you change them regularly but they can be in for up to 8 hours. Using a tampon at 13 is no different than using a tampon at 16 or 25 and they have sizes meant for teenaged girls. It’s her body and she will be the one dealing with her periods for the next 40 years so why not let her decide for herself?

Maybe she can wear a pad like normal and wear shorts with the bathing suit. So it’s not noticeable ans if she needs to change she can.

I say thank God I have boys only… but here is what I think… I would have her use a tampon… safe for her and safe for everyone else at the water park and depending on her flow have her change it often…simple as that… and thats probably what she is going to chose anyway alot of teenagers do…

You lost me at “ period app”!?? Really?!!!

Why are you not comfortable with her wearing tampons? Why would you take the convenience of a tampon from her? Have you asked her if she would like to try them? When my daughter started her period I showed her all the options and let her choose. And of course she chose tampons. For heavens sake. She is a young lady who deserves to have a say with what to use during her period.

What I wrote on 2 other pages with this same story

So tampons are a no no because you stick them up your vagina, but cups are ok? Those go up the vagina too…

Have you thought about birth control to slow or stop the periods. I know that for some people they completely stop having a period altogether or have a very light one and just where a panty liner

They make period panties, period pjs, and period swim suits. I would suggest looking into these if you won’t allow her to wear a tampon.

The menstrual cups do have a learning curve however why not buy on now and have her get used to taking it in and out while its not gross. Tampons with a heavy flow LEAK ALOT! AND ANY TIME YOUR WALKING AROUND THE BLOOD WILL RUN DOWN HER LEG.

Ummm… how old are you??? What’s wrong with her using tampons??

This is just a suggestion as I know a relative that did this for her daughter at same age on a vacation situation… she gave her 800 mg Ibuprofen and it stopped her period. Also there’s a medication called Norethindrone for stopping periods ( can read online about it) of course I would check with her pediatrician or doctor first to make sure if these options were safe for her age before doing that if you think it’s an option you’d be comfortable with.

Tampons. I repeat: Tampons.

I really like the softdiscs but it’s what she’s comfortable with, not you.

You kind of lost me at you not feeling comfortable, it’s not about you’re comfort. She is the one that has to use them so let her decide.

My daughter is 13 and wears tampons when she goes to the beach or wants to swim. The ones in the picture is what my daughter uses. They are small enough to carry in a wallet, backpack or purse and my daughter says they are comfortable. I think you should give your daughter the option. Whether your comfortable with it or not, dont you want her to be comfortable during your trip? Shes the one who has to wear it

Yall do realize tampons cam cause toxic shock syndrome right? Especially in the younger girls. It makes them more at risk for it

You don’t want to use the diva cups, then give her tampons… Simple as that. If you both don’t agree to either option then I guess she stays outta the water.

My mum gave me all options, and brought everything possible ,for me to actually look at and explore :joy::rofl:. She gave me all the warnings, also a small talk on all products , including the statistics on TTS and everything. An informed decision is the best decision. Google is an amazing tool too.

She’s the one with the period, so it’s not about your comfort. You need to step up and educate your daughter about tampons.

You wear it for 4-8hrs at a time and you only get tss (toxic shock syndrome) if you have it in for 12hrs or more.

Teach her how to wear it.
Set a timer on her phone to let her know when to change it out or teach her that if she feels “wet” before/during the 4/8hrs, she needs to change it out.

Tampons are your best bet when going swimming. She can wear red or black bikinis- so if she has an accident, no one would tell.

You can either help her and educate her and let her wear tampons or you can just let her miss out on all the fun- which is pretty cruel. She can’t help that her period is going to arrive on the day of your vacation.

Theres period swimwear, or give her the choice of tampons or diva cups… Let her choose the one she is most comfortable with… I realize as a mom you might not be comfortable with her wearing tampons but… I mean think about it do you enjoy sitting there with a pad on that feels like a diaper?? Most females cant stand pads… Id sit her down explain the options that are out there and ask her which she would like to try…

I’ve seen good reviews for thinx period underwear that she could get swim shorts and discretely wear under them

I wore tampons by that age. I can see not wanting younger girls to use them yet. My girl started her period young. She hasn’t had her period since been going swimming yet at the waterpark. I told her she could play in splash pads, just not swim with a pad on. Most water parks have a splash pad. However your daughter is old enough to try and see if she likes tampons. She just needs to be taught to not leave them in too long.

Is this a joke? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:… you can’t be serious right now… and if this is a woman asking this question, even worse… :woman_facepalming:t2: … this poor child is screwed in life

Y’all are so hateful… maybebherdaughter doesn’t want to wear tampons either? I don’t blame either of them. If you guys cannot come to a solution, and she’s going to be in the ocean and not a pool- maybe just wear longer black shorts? You could also get her a long swim wrap skirt thing for when she comes out of the water to go and get changed? Periods are natural. I’m sure there are ways to go about it without having her get embarrassed. Not everyone likes to stick stuff up their cooch :woman_shrugging:

I started wearing a tampon at 12 right when I started my period because I wanted to swim. It was totally fine for me. It’s a simple solution that will allow her to enjoy any and all activities no matter when her period is and I don’t see why it shouldn’t be the answer but I respect your personal feelings on them as you see her mom. My sister uses the menstrual cups (the diva cup) and can’t understand why every woman doesn’t use them. She says it’s so easy, you just put it in and leave it there all day. She just takes a shower and takes it out in there to rinse it off so it’s not so gross and just puts it back In after. I think there’s definitely plenty of solutions and don’t think your trip needs to be ruined! Don’t let her period get in the way of making memories :slightly_smiling_face:

So I grew up with creepy foster parents who wouldn’t let me use tampons which turned into my friends giving them to me and me having no clue how to use them lol. Not sure why you’re uncomfortable with them but if you decide to let her please go with the organic ones and educate her.

I use a cup, and have convinced a lot of my adult friends to do the same. I will never go back to tampons now because I find it more convenient and more comfortable. That said, I think tampons would be easier for a 13 year old to use. There is a trick to putting the cup in and taking it out and it does have to be washed. I would encourage someone new to the world of periods to use tampons. Why would you prefer she not use tampons (I haven’t read all 800+ comments)
