Just have her wear tampons… what is the big deal
Its HER body, i remember my mom saying i couldnt even shave my pubes that young and grounding me for doing so bec it was somehow sexual, plz dont be that mom
I track my daughters periods that way I am able to schedule around their periods lol it’s not easy wit 4 daughters! I’d try a cup though.
At least you are concerned about her comfort and well being on this vacation. You could be like a shit ton of moms I’ve witnessed just not care and make it all about you. Which you didn’t do at all.
My 12 year old wears tampons. She came to me asking if she could. Its not about your comfortability, it’s about hers.
Playtex sport tampons work well
They have period underwear that are supposed to be as absorbent as 5 tampons. I’ve never tried it myself but worth looking into
Does she not want to use tampons or u? If she’s ok with it, all she will need while in the water is the tampon. Make sure she brings some with u to the park so she can change them often. If she doesn’t want to use one, then there’s not much u can do about it. Can’t wear pads in the water. Can’t wear period underwear in the water. Not sure about the period cup. Every menstruating girl/woman has faced this on vacation, and otherwise. It’s all about choices. And if ur going to be spending a significant amount of time in the water, I’d highly suggest tampons. There are different sizes. And if ur concerned about leakage, u can have that with tampons OR pads. So u might as well encourage her to wear tampons and see how she does. That’s all u can do.
OMGOSH what the hell is wrong with you woman? A mimi tampon is ok but a regular one isnt? Show the girl how to insert a tampon for crying out loud. On second thought have her ask one of her girlfriends or their sisters how to insert it. The majority or young ladies do not use those nasty ole pads anymore anyway. The thought of sitting in school in one of thse bloody rags is disgusting. And SHE will not spoil your vacation but you might spoil hers by telling everyone in the family and keep asking her a lot of questions in front of people. She might be 13 but she has feelings ans deserved respect.
Can uask why you don’t want ur daughter using a tampon before I offer advice.
It’s Her Body let try a tampons not your decision
Have her take a bath or shower before the water park it should stop it/slow it down so by the time she gets there she should be good it stops when in water and they make tampons for teens now I didn’t want to use one either but I was 12 and had a heavy period and I used one… We all do stuff that’s uncomfortable at first and then we get over it and she will forget about it because of the fun she will be having
They have new period panties too
I would not let that ruined my vacation use a tampon
If *she is ok with trying tampons just let her … Not sure why you’re so uncomfortable with her using one (?) Make sure she knows to change often … If it’s an absolute no on *her side (honestly it isn’t about *your comfort zone:heart:) then just have her wear a pad & wear jeans shorts instead of a bathing suit bottom… They have slim, teen tampons - that’s what I recommend
I swear by the flex cups. They are comfortable, disposable and way safer/healthier than tampons. Thinx also has some great products for pre teens and teens.
Tell her to get used to it… this is life now.
She can certainly wear a tampon especially if she going swimming pads when she’s not. Don’t discourage her about being on her period life goes on with.it or without
This question can’t be real
I havnt tried the cups yet but they are supposed to be really good, just take them out in the shower and wash, or just let her try tampons and see how she feels about them. Please do not listen to people who are saying it will stop in the water! Xx
With all due respect, get over it! Most likely she has many many years of monthly periods ahead of her, she may as well learn now how to adapt and adjust and not let this interfere with her having fun. Don’t make a big deal, show her that it will be fine and if you all have to make some extra stops to the ladies room, so be it, no big issue. This is the perfect opportunity to teach and model…please don’t make it drama or negative, this is going to be 25% of her life, let her live it…
You get a medication that delays your period. Its often used for things like this - holidays, weddings. Even girls in the army take it when they’re deployed. Might be worth looking into x
If she is on birth control, extend it for a week. A flex cup sounds like a good idea. Tampons freak the out of me too. TSS is insane! Never wore tampons in my 29 years and that’s okay if you don’t want your daughter to wear them. Not much you can do when aunt flow what’s to show.
Thankfully I don’t have to deal with the mess anymore but I just wore light pads and changed them regularly when I wanted to go in the water.
Tampons are not good for you and I wouldn’t touch those nasty cups.
Let her use tampons…its time
I agree, if she is comfortable trying tampons, more power to her! I have also seen ads for swimwear to wear during your period. I would hate for her to miss out if there are other options available
What about getting her some period panties??? They almost look like a bathing suit and they have a pad inside of them that you cant see…
She can take the mini pill everyday. And stop in changer her cycle but tbf babe she young tampons no go. I never used them or a cup barely get them myself. But she can still have fun.
O myself wud get her few sarongs so if she does happen have one. She can wear a pad in bikini and still be able sun bathe as to say. X
So many of you are so disrespectful with your opinion. Why are you coming down so hard on this mom? Of all the things to judge and criticize how someone parents their kid, THIS is what has you foaming out the mouth?
The only thing that doesn’t make sense is why a mensural cup is ok but not a tampon? In any case, vacationing while on your period is definitely a bummer for most, especially for a young teen. But don’t reinforce the idea it’s debilitating and will ruin her vacation. It may not be ideal, but that’s life and nature, not much you can do. If she is wanting to be in the water, and it sounds like you want her to enjoy the water too, you do t really have much options. The cup I wouldn’t recommend for a young girl, but it’s tampons or no water fun. Ask her if she’s comfortable with the idea of using one. She may want to.
This is too much personal info. How would your daughter feel reading this
Cup user here. In my opinion much cleaner and comfortable But they do have period swimwear and panties as well… Watch some videos about cup use . Give her all the options… Just because you are not comfortable with them doent mean she wont be.
She’s only 13 yall i don’t think its time for her to be wearing tampons 13 is to young i think that would be giving her new ideas come on ladies what if it was yall daughter
She’s going to get blood on her fingers either way ,might as well use a cup.
A cup can be left in longer than a tampon,is more comfortable than a tampon and she won’t have a string to worry about.
Either where tampons or a cup or don’t complain
You can put her on med…birth control that will help stop her cycle. It will change her usual cycle days…or try tampons for that week.
How about having the young lady decide for herself what she would like to do… educate her about what items may help her through this vacation. She has a long way to go with having a mental period… a growing time, a maturing time. Everything will be fine. Enjoy your trip!
I’m sure she would like to decide her self. But there’s also leak proof undies you can get, that come in swimwear or everyday.
Modibodi is the brand. Cater for teenagers and adults.
I must be weird. I wore tampons when I was 13 and wanting to go swimming. I was the one that understood water DOES NOT stop your period! When it came to my daughter it was her choice. There is nothing wrong with a 13 yrs old using them. A cup will be much more difficult as it takes time getting use to and knowing how to put it in properly. And at 13 I think those will bother her more then a tampon. In the end its her choice. She is the one who has to make the decision, it’s her body.
Tampons. If YSS isn’t a problem in ur family shell he fine
It’s time for a tampon for this occasion. I hated them and would only use them if absolutely necessary. Like this vacation. She will at least get to participate with activities . If that’s what she wants. Then let her decide. They are smart little humans !!!
I use a menstrual cup all then time and yes you clean it. I’m curious as to why you think menstrual blood any dirtier than regular blood.
There is nothing wrong with a 13 yo using tampons.
Why not a tampon? It doesn’t end virginity or make girls sexually active. As long as she’s diligent about changing it, what’s the big deal? I used them in my teens, so did my daughters. Less accidents, less embarrassment, more freedom like swimming.
O.B. tampons. And, you seriously need to mature. Stop shaming this young woman for society! Give her what she needs and go!
Ruby love I believe it’s called, it’s period underwear I believe they also have swim wear as well
My daughter’s both Hated pads. Both started at 10yrs old. Once they understood tampons and they themselves wanted to try that route it was allowed. As a kid myself I figured that out on my own…my mom never explained. But I am open with my girls and we talked and it was explained. When they wanted to try it was fine. So depending on your daughter maybe discuss it and explain and let her decide. And go from there. Wearing a pad while trying to enjoy a fun vacay is going to suck and affect her mood alot.
My thoughts anyways.
Why not just try sitting down with your daughter and share your concerns regarding her comfort and enjoyment during vacation while on her cycle. Perhaps giving her the information/options she may be okay with making the choice herself. Either choices may be physically uncomfortable at first. Just say’n.
Tampons will let her enjoy swimming and her vacation, could use pads at night if you’re worried
Honestly having a hard time with this one. If you’re fearful of toxic shock syndrome, just make sure your daughter is changing them regularly. You can buy slim ones to help with the transition to tampons. If it’s because you’re worried about a “moral” aspect, then teach her they’re a tool to take care of her body. Unfortunately you cannot prevent her from growing up. It sounds like if you want everyone to have fun on vacation, you might have to be flexible.
Ruby Love makes period swimsuits for teens
The cup is not as nasty as it sounds. It causes me less cramping than tampons, leaks far less/holds a lot more, you can swim with it in, no nasty little string to slip out your bathing suit. They just take a bit of getting used to putting in/out, but far cheaper and better to use than pads/tampons in the long run, and less chance of toxic shock than tampons. Check out YouTube for more info on cups and how to insert them, makes them far less daunting.
Her body, let her decide. You “feeling uncomfortable” with her using tampons is irrelevant unless she is uncomfortable. I love using a menstrual cup. Yes you wash it and boil to sanitize. You only boil it before and after your period so there’s no concerns about having to during vacation. There’s also menstrual disks (both disposable and reusable).
But a cup takes practice. Between now and vacation isn’t enough time to get the hang of it.
My vote is you get over your tampon phobia and teach her how to use them and when to change them. Don’t let your opinions leave her out of the fun for vacation
Really you are going to deny her tampon use especially when there’s swimming involved. She should be able too choose which type of products she wants to use for her period it’s her body!
Definitely either a menstrual cup or disc. There are brands that sell reusable ones like Diva Cup or Nixit and you can wear them for 12 hrs without any risk. Then just take them out, wash them and reuse them. They are GREAT!
Very Stupid Question. Just ask her not the world.
Periods are apart of life, they’re going to come no matter what. Let her use whatever products she wants to use.
Never had an issue swimming on my period. I don’t use tampons. Is this a thing? I understand if your period is heavy and cramps , would probably have to use a tampon then in the water.
You don’t feel comfortable with her wearing tampons?? … well unfortunately it isn’t your body to dictate. She is a teenager. Teach her proper hygiene while using tampons the “size” of the tampon shouldn’t be an issue. Vaginas can birth babies it can hold a heavier flow tampon. If she isn’t responsible enough to change tampons as needed … then provide a tampon for when she is at the water park and remind her to change it if she is there long enough.
I am so grateful my mother wasn’t like this💯
Wait what?! Period app?!
So u would let her use a menstrual cup but not a tampon
U do know the cup actually go up in farther then a tampon right?!
The safest option would be tampons. Unfortunately, for a menstrual cup, she would have to test it a few times until she knows how to use and feels comfortable with it. A water park while on vacation might not be the best time to try it.
My daughter just tried her first tampon Wednesday. She started Tuesday. We r at the beach. I coached her and now she likes them. She had a friend that was 12 that started and she wears them. But no to period cup. Yuk. But don’t let her sleep with one in. My daughter uses a pad for sleeping.
"I don’t feel comfortable with her using tampons " ma’am with due respect it’s NOT about you and what you’re comfortable with.
Take time to educate your daughter. Make it a safe place to discuss what works and what doesn’t. Stop making this about you and focus on your daughter . She is probably already worried about it & does not need you making it worse. .
I am hoping this is a father asking not a mother! Smh
Whats wrong with tampons as a kid whos school took them swimming this is what we was advised or to sit on the edge of pool n loose out
The cups leak. I tried them. Cough-squirt. Sneezeh-squirt.
Help a mama out and respond anonymously on our forum. How can my daughter enjoy vacation while on her period?
I wore knee knocker pants Lol
Honestly it’s not really what you’re comfortable with. She’s 13. She’s bleeding. If she personally wants to wear tampons to enjoy her time she should because pads won’t cut it. She could use a diva cup but I’ve heard they take a few times taking in and out to get used to. Wash your hands when you’re done and it’s nbd
definitely tampons. i was 13 and wearing tampons, i was so excited i could still go to the beach and get in the water when i was on my period. i had a lot of fun
Tampons is the only solution does suck for her though, I always make sure to plan around mine even if not in water just bc its not a fun wk
Thinx underwear and Ruby bathing suits. They are life savers
I use a cup and love it! It can be a little messy. But it made me so much more comfortable and aware of my body. They make teen sizes as well. However, I would say if a cup is an option then a tampon should be as well because inserting the cup can become a lot more invasive. You could also look into menstrual disks they are said to be less messier and I’m pretty sure they get thrown away after each use.
I know you’re not comfortable with tampons, but that’s the only other option I can think of.
What is the reasoning for not wanting her to wear tampons? I get everyone has their views. I started using them at 13 and would never use anything else especially while swimming. There are so many different ones for different flows & mine is usually heavy even at 32.
I hate tampons but if I had to choose between my daughter having a crappy vacation or wearing a tampon while in the water I would definitely pick the tampons. I’m going to fl the 24th and im supposed to be on mine normally I wouldn’t wear tampons but if needed I will.
I’d have her try tampons before a cup.
There are period bathing suits for this exact purpose, daughters being young and avoid tampon usage. I don’t know from personal experience how well they work but they had great reviews.
I don’t understand why the mother doesn’t feel comfortable letting her daughter use tampons? She’s 13 and as long as you explain how to put them in, how to take them out and change them then the daughter should be fine to use them? It would be different if the 13 y/o didn’t want to use them but it sounds like the mom isn’t even giving her the option?
Modi bodi have got period swimming pants
If you want her to have fun and enjoy the vacation then let her use a tampon. A mini tampon is still the same size, it’s the applicator that’s more discrete and “mini”.
I would introduce her to tampons. Even if it’s just for vacation. We all been there done it at some point on vacation. I hate them myself. But would rather enjoy my vacation then watch everyone else having fun.
Honestly it’s not really about what your comfortable with. She’s the one bleeding who will have to sit out basically the whole vacation because you won’t let her wear a tampon. Or you can try the diva cups
Let her wear a damn tampon it’s not your body so give her the option to choose.
Let her use a tampon.
Cups take time to get use to. Tampons probably the quickest option here. You may be able to find period panty swimwear. Thinx is a brand I see a lot of people use.
Bonds do period swim suits.
Tampons, you can definitely swim with them, I was like 10 when I stared using them. Always preferred them once I started.
Ask your daughter. I used tampons, if changed regular will be fine. Cups have been around for at least 70 years. Me too, not great. Talk with a Gyn. To get best info.
Maybe birth control to skip it that month?
The menstrual disks are disposable! I suggest having her practice with them first though because if it’s not inserted correctly she could leak. They last 12 hours and more comfortable than tampons.
I used pads when I was younger to swim when on my period. To this day tampons are difficult for me to use but I use them to get in water. What is your daughter comfortable with? I have a heavy flow and even with pads or tampons I’ve never had an embarrassing issue while swimming.
Why aren’t you comfortable with tampons? She’s the one that will be missing out. If she’s comfortable you need to let her try. It’s her body.
Is SHE comfortable with tampons? Lol.
You can’t be “so sad” and “so upset “ when the only reason she’s not going to be able to participate is because you’re not comfortable with something.
I’d feel more comfortable with the cup than Tampons personally
I feel like she’s old enough to decide if she wants to use tampons or not. it’s not about your comfort it’s hers.
simple fix!!! Go on amazon and order her some period swimming pants! She’s your child and I understand why you don’t want her using tampons. These pants work great. Get a couple options for her!!!
Teach her how to use tampons.
Don’t start the cup on vacation. It takes time to learn to use. I would teach her how to use tampons for right now.
