There is a medication your doctor can prescribe that blocks your period for the month, I took it over my honeymoon. I’m not sure if they would prescribe to a child but maybe worth a chat to your doctor about it.
Ruby love…they make swim bottoms for girls on their periods so that they dont have to wear tampons
Going into the vacation with the mindset that she can’t possibly have fun will only cause her to not have fun. I would bring both tampons and different size cups to use should she want to try them.
This happened to me when I first started my period. We were camping and a lot of swimming. My mom got me the OB kind of tampons to use, they worked really well for me at 13 years old. The not having an applicator made them much easier to use for a first timer
There are pills on the market that can suppress her period for a few days. It is safe to use .
Even Modibodi does them now
ob make little tampons they are as big as my pinky and they come in different Flo sizes
Period swim pants. They make underwear too.
Firstly it isn’t about what YOU are comfortable with. If she wants to use tampons, she’s old enough she gets to decide.
Secondly, there are swim period underwear nowadays, as well as regular period underwear (hello Thinx)
Tampons seems to be the only reasonable way to go
why not ask HER if she wants to try tampons. It’s HER body.
so ummm its super weird and i was shocked when i found out, but my husbands little cousin just used a pad with no wings . im not sure how that exactly worked but she was 13 and at the time the village in hungary just started selling tampons so i guess that was just the norm. 3 yrs ago.
I’m confused you don’t want her using a tampon but are ok with her inserting the cup?!
Look into FLEX disks. They are similar to menstrual cups, but they are not ment to be reused. They are FANTASTIC for heavier flows and won’t “leak” like tampons can. They last a lot longer as well. You can order directly from FLEX, especially the ones designed for heavier days. Or the regular ones are at Target. No chemicals either like tampons have.
You will forever scar her if she uses the cup and it gets stuck.
Are you willing to help her pull it out?
Tell the doctor they will give her something to stop it while on holiday
They have the compact tampons in super to just let her use them on vacation and then after ask her not to use them
Tampons. Regardless of your feelings, and reach her how to properly use them.
The cup is washable but the disc are disposable… but if you’re going to go that route I would just let her use tampons for that week… when u started using the cup/disc I didn’t have correct placement down til the 2nd time around. If she is comfortable using tampons I would let her since it’s her body and all anyways.
I wouldn’t recommend a menstrual cup for someone as young as she is. Definitely check into the swimwear or underwear designed for menstrating.
I don’t know I think that you should let her use the tampons on the trip and just make sure she inserts them correctly and changes them regularly. I know cops have been around for a long time but they can’t be messy and they are not convenient
I started using a disc. And it’s wayyyyyyy more comfy than a tampon. Super easy to insert and get used to. Can be worn up to 12 hours. And not reusable, since that seems to be an issue. Throw it away after every use.
Trying to understand the whole perspective here… Why do you feel comfortable considering the use of the menstrual cups but not tampons?
My daughter is 12 almost 13 and wore pads for first few periods she had and just didn’t like them due to her heavy flow. We watched a few videos on different feminine products and we got her a few to try for a few periods. We did eventually find that she was the most comfortable with tampons of which she tried a few different brands and she knew everything she could through videos etc and talking to a gynaecologist who was extremely helpful. Tampons shouldn’t be a scary thing when used and inserted properly. Yes there are risks but that’s with everything. My daughter is more comfortable, isn’t scared of an accident happening, can go swimming, more confident in herself during her time of the month, and can enjoy herself. Might be worth getting an appointment with a gynaecologist to talk about things.
Literally just went through this thing with my own child. She is 15 and does not use tampons. Someone suggested period Panties and that was just a major disaster.
Great way to throw her into woman hood. It doesn’t get any better and that week of the month we ruin way more than this vacation.
But forreal, tampons are not a big deal.
I love the menstrual cup I’ve been using it for years it doesn’t have the health risks associated with tampons and tmi… But I have a super heavy flow and only have to empty the cup 3 times daily morning afternoon night
Flex cups. Also my daughter wears thin pads when on her period swimming
The mini tampons that click into place have different sizes for different flows. The cup is gross but I’ve heard it’s actually healthier than tampons bc there’s no chance of chemicals in them. I’ve also heard they work better and less chance of leakage. Ask your daughter what she would prefer and have her do some research with what she’s comfortable using. There’s also pamprin (i use the caffeine free to avoid cramps being worse) and it will help avoid her being absolutely miserable during vacation.
If a period swimsuit is available I would suggest that. Tampons can be intimidating but I would offer her the option. As far as cups go- I have tried them but struggled and they can be messy. I personally like a product called “soft discs” is like a cup but disposable and can be worn for 12 hours. I found them to be much more comfortable than tampons. I had way less cramping and even on heavy days they held up for several hours (5+) . Again they might be a little intimidating but you/she won’t know if they are a good fit until you try out your options. Good luck , and let me know if you have more questions I might be able to answer
I say you provide her with ALL the options and pros and cons of each and let HER decide how to handle HER period in HER body and then educate HER on how how to safely use that option she decides on for HER period in HER vagina
I had this same thing happen to me at age 12 and I asked my mom to buy me some tampons. I didn’t wear them the whole time as I wasn’t used to them so they felt weird but it’s HER choice. If you don’t want this to ruin her vacation talk to her about tampons and buy her some if she wants them
Not being hateful but I feel like you’re being not too fair. There’s no point in being upset, simply ask her if she’s comfortable with a tampon and if not, then that is when you should be searching for alternatives, or you could just ask her if she wants to know the alternatives. I would not let my child sit out on vacation because of a tampon, have a conversation with her, don’t shame her or make it like its a bad thing. I hope you can find something she is comfortable with and she has a fun vacation!
We had a similar situation my mom didnt want my sister and i to use tampons at such a young age either but I didn’t completely agree with because I was a heavy bleeder as well and I would always bleed through my pads in school, theres nothing more embarrassing. Anyway she would be more understanding when it came to summer and us swimming so she got us the light ones and when we got out of swimming it was straight back to a pad.
The cup goes in side of her whats the difference?
Just let her use a tampon.
They make period underwear
Why are you not comfortable with a tampon, but are comfortable with a cup? They both go in the same way. I’d say let her choose, its her body. I know having a teen on her period and using tampons is a little upsetting as in your baby growing up, but thats just it hun, your baby is growing up! And having the mentality alreadybshes gonna be miserable, will make her have a miserable time!
What about shorts bathing suit bottoms and a pad? Or regular bathing suit bottoms with mesh shorts over… that’s what I always did when I was a kid.
If your daughter doesn’t have a good time it’s because of you it’s her choice not yours if you’re not comfortable with it what makes you think she isn’t!
Honey, give her a tampon if she feels comfortable with it and make her life much easier on her. Why make her suffer with pads because YOU don’t feel comfortable. That’s not right.
Why cant she use tampons? That way she can be in the water
I started using tampons behind my moms back not long after I started and she was like that about them. When she found out, she had no other choice because I would get them from friends houses or stores myself. Etc
What does you being comfortable with her using have to do with it? Tampons are the best option and she can change frequently if SHE’S comfortable with it. Cups are great for the experienced user, not for someone so new to this part of their life. Welcome to being a woman little one. We don’t get to plan when it happens but it doesn’t have to ruin the fun. Good luck guys.
There’s a lot of misinformation on tampons. There is NO SHAME in wearing them. There is shame in shaming them. They do not take away a woman’s modesty or Virginity. Target has wonderful organic tampons, That are safe for her. She should be able to fully enjoy this vacation without shame or guilt
While I find this entire thing odd - I use Flex disks and love them. Way more comfortable than tampons.
Why can’t she wear a tampon but she can wear a cup? Same thing really… also it should be up to her.
So every time I get in water my period stops for a couple of hrs am I the only one like this
Buy a box of light tampons and teach her how to use them. Or else her summer will be shit everytime the family wants to go swimming and she is bleeding.
You don’t feel comfortable letting your daughter wearing tampons? So you’re just gonna let her be left out throughout this vacay, because you don’t want her wearing tampons and would rather go with something of your choice? It’s her body. She’s going through puberty. Let her choose what she wants to use as long as it’s appropriate for the pool.
First world problems
Cups are amazing! Better for the environment and your body. I know the idea is kind of gross at first but do some research on them. They are worth it.
Tampons … Jesus. You’re basically sexualizing tampons
I think they actually make period underwear now…
Ask her if she thinks she could use a tampon. They have the smooth plastic applicators and she only has to use them while in water. Use pads when you’re not at the water park… that’s what my daughter would do.
There is some kind of pill you can get from doctor to stop period. Maybe google it. I kinda think is naproxen
Let her use a tampon seriously. It won’t do nothing to her she just needs to take it out and replace every 8 hours.
Just let her use tampons have a conversation with her about them. Then if she doesn’t feel comfortable then search alternatives. The cup goes inside her too so what’s the difference between that and a tampon. Just be open with her and have her make the choice just tell her other options if she doesn’t want nothing inside her
My mom bought my daughter some period undies particularly for this! I was worried about her not being able to swim with the other kids and shes not ready for tampons. There are options!
How is a tampon not okay but a menstrual cup is
Tbh your best bet is too let her wear a tampon as long as she changes them regularly she should be fine…
Why are tampons still considered taboo, this post makes me sad.
The first time I ever used a tampon was on a vacation in Florida with my best friend and her parents. I knew the jist of it but didn’t put them in the right way and was uncomfortable. But I dont think I really had any other option. So I totally understand. I am 33 and still can’t figure out how to do the cup without leaking so I’m no help with advice on that one lol
What’s your daughter comfortable with? Have you asked her? The cup goes inside just like a tampon so I don’t really understand what the issue is there… But either way it should be your daughters choice and what she’s comfortable with
If she has her period she should be able to know how to use all feminine products just in case. I started wearing tampons for the same reason at 13. Only for swimming
Um so am I the only women who knows that your period stops in water. None of my daughters use tampons, neither do I amd we manage to swim just fine. We just ensure we have a pad ready if we’re gonna be out of the water for an extended period of time. Also if you track your daughter’s period then why didn’t you take that into consideration when scheduling your vacation?
Quit making it something so much more difficult than it already is for her. Let her use a tampon. Periods suck. Almost all of us get them.
Are you even a parent? We figure this out. The disk is great as are tampons. Teach her!!
You will not bleed in the water, but will bleed when you get out. Wear dark suit
For anyone that doesn’t know… Idk about anyone else but when I’m in the water I don’t bleed. So I use a tampon for time being if need to be …
They make Period bathing suits now!!
I think you should ask your daughter what she is most comfortable doing. One of my daughters doesn’t like tampons and won’t wear them, the other one will; both are teenagers. I wouldn’t let my personal feelings dictate what she prefers to do to handle having her period while on vacation. There is no medical reason she couldn’t use tampons. She doesn’t necessarily have to use them the entire time, she might want to use them only when y’all are swimming. If it were my kiddo, I would present the options available to her (tampons, period swimwear, etc) and let her decide. This is a really great opportunity for you to show her you value her opinion.
I wouldn’t try the cup for the first time on vacation, from my understanding it can be a little tricky and you don’t want that to cause an embarrassing situation for her.
I would have her try tampons over a cup. I use a cup and it takes getting used to. In my opinion a tampon would be easier for a 13 year old.
I have a cup and it’s great for a woman but kind of large especially for a young girl. A tampon would be a lot less invasive and hands on
The cup is hard to get in place correctly the first time you use it, once you are used to it , it’s great
Simply denying tampons because you’re not comfortable with them is selfish. It shouldn’t be your decision anyway, it’s her body. She is old enough to, and should, decide herself if she wants to use them. Especially if it means she can go in the water and actually enjoy her vacation. I remember when I turned 15 (got my period at 14) I told my mom I wanted to use tampons. She was a little surprised but had no problem with it.
You’re not comfortable with her wearing tampons? You sound very controlling and ignorant. Is she supposed to stay in the house and wear all black while on the rag her entire life? Does she not play sports? If you don’t know how to teach her to enjoy her life regardless of natural body functions find a healthcare professional to teach her for you.
If you’re not comfortable with a tampon, you won’t be comfortable with a period cup either. She has to use her fingers to get it up there, but with a tampon your fingers don’t have to go in. She’ll be less likely to leak with a tampon as well, because the cup has to have a good suction to not leak. Find organic/cotton tampons, and have her change them at least every two hours (so she doesn’t get full or uncomfortable). The organic or cotton tampons will cause less cramping than a regular tampon with chemicals.
Look up Ruby love. They are advertising a sale on period swimwear
Why not tampons? I started when I was 12 and stayed home that day… my mom went and bought like 10 boxes of different tampons so we could find out what was comfortable for me. The thought of sitting in a big bulky pad covered in blood all day was something I refused. Lol
I’m actually thinking about switching to a cup. I’ve heard amazing things about them. They aren’t gross join Put A Cup In It Community and they can give you all kinds of info on the hygiene of it, the difference in the cups, etc.
I’d say let her do tampons or a cup. Other way she has no way to enjoy vacation… and if she is okay with tampons or a cup that should be her choice. Whatever works best for her… it’s already an uncomfortable time. I couldn’t imagine it being made to be more uncomfortable because my mom didn’t want me using tampons.
As far as anything else to help with the trip… take midol, a heating pad and her favorite snacks!
Let her wear Tampons. Cups are great and a LIFE SAVER but take getting used to. Set a timer so she remembers to check and change them regularly. I’m assuming that’s your main concern? Set a timer for like, idk… every 3-4 hours? And use the smallest, least absorbent necessary.
Give her the options of the cup, disks, tampons, special bathing suits, make sure she gets the hang of them before vacation tho lol she should definitely get to choose herself.
If she’s 13 and has a period app she’s mature enough to wear tampons. How do you know she doesn’t already use them? U can get period underwear now, look on amazon
I was a swimmer so I didn’t have a choice but to always use tampons. Truthfully, I hate a tampon! I bought a diva cup about 2 years ago and I LOVE IT! It’s tricky to get in at first and when I began using it I had long nails and I had couldn’t get it out so my hubs had to. I personally get in the shower to change it every time. Dump in the toilet, clean it, shower, and put her back in.
Uhm let her wear tampons this is ridiculous
Did I read this post right? Y’all are worried about her being on her period during vacation?
I would let her choose. If she is ok with tampons, then let her. Maybe period swimsuit as back up.
Google period swimsuit.
Try the period discs! The sit inside the vagina and you replace them every six to twelve hours depending on flow! No rinsing like with the cups, no risk of TSS like with tampons. I’m on my feet at work ten hours a day usually as a CNA and have never had a leak, EVER. They help me with cramps as well for whatever reason and are one of the most comfortable options out there. Cups can be a lot of trial and error depending on size and how they feel and fit.
You can still use the mini click tampons if you have a heavy flow, just FYI. You would just get the “super” kind.
Be prepared and I agree that the daughter should be informed and decide. The app may also be wrong but be prepared in case it happens.
Let HER decide whether or not to use tampons
My daughter is 11 and uses tampons explain to her how to use them and then let her use them so she can also have fun on vacation
I didn’t use a tampon until I was in my 20’s and had had sex. I also didn’t go swimming during those years either.
I also have a 12 year old who will be 13 next month and her periods are so all over the place I can’t track them. She can go 3 months without having one. Then bleed for 2 weeks. Then not have another one for 2 months. We are planning a FL vacation next month and if she’s on her period I was going to explain tampons but I don’t think she’s old enough to understand about where it goes. Yes I explained about the birds and the bees when she started her period last year but she still isn’t quite understanding.
So let your daughter choose what she wants to do.
Don’t treat a period like a disease and she will be confortable with it eventually. It is normal to bleed even on vacation
It’s not your choice whether or not you are comfortable with HER using tampons. Like Forreal.
I can’t wear tampons. I use a disc called nixit. It’s a medical grade silicone that she could leave in place for up to 12 hrs. It is kind of like a cup but much more comfortable. They also have disposable ones called flex and soft cups
If she doesn’t want to use a tampon they make period underwear and too
when I was that age, I used a smaller tampon for younger teenagers, called pursettes. I didn’t have a app to tell me when I am due for my period,!!! And just how do you know she won’t enjoy herself??? Get her the smaller tampons, She will have to change them often & she will be fine
I don’t get how mom would be more comfortable with the cup but not a tampon They both go in and out the same way
