How can my daughter enjoy vacation while on her period?

Definitely recommend a cup!!

It should not be your comfort that is taken into consideration for a sanitary product for your child’s normal bodily function.

Let her wear a frickin tampon and enjoy your vacay

I was using tampons by 12. Let her decide.

Ask the gp they may be able to suggest something to postpone it while away on holiday

My daughter has this same issue. I’ve tried to convince her to use tampons or a cup or anything but she’s not ready and she’s almost 14. I give her the option but unfortunately when she’s on it during vacation she just doesn’t go in the water. It’s happened twice to us and will likely happen again next month unfortunately

Tampons and midol. Periods didn’t stop our vacations when I was a kid or even now. Just pack stuff in case it comes and enjoy the Vacation

She should have access to any feminine products SHE wants. This isnt something that’s on your terms. Give the kid a box of Xtra light flow tiny tampons and send her to the bathroom to figure it out if ur that uncomfortable with being a mother to your own daughter. This was done to me and I’ll let u know it did nothing but cause me to hide my period from my mom. Do better girl, the first vacation I ever went on I knew I was going to have my period so I went to the health dept during my period the month before the vacation and got the little birth control pills and took them until our vacation. It threw my period off a few days but I still went prepared to learn how to use tampons obviously. But other than that suck it up buttercup. It’s her body idc if she’s 13. A period is almost inevitable… smh🙄

Let your daughter wear the tampon. Teach her now so she can get it right during the trip.

Periods stop in the water. They make special undewear as well so just wear a pad until ready to swim.

My daughter is 12 and just started her very first period today. We’re leaving for vacation tomorrow. So, when her dad gets home this evening, I’m taking her out to pick out what pads and tampons she would like to try. She was concerned about not being able to swim and I told her she could wear a tampon and be just fine. She is excited because it will be just the two of us and I’m going to let her pick out some new panties as well and grab her some chocolate and Midol.

Its her choice whether or not she’s comfortable wearing tampons not yours let her make the choice

And extremely disgusting? It’s a period, it’s her body it’s normal you need to tell her that.

Looks like tampons your best bet

I bought my daughter who at the time was 10 now 16, a variety of absorbencies for tampons, and the same with pads, she chose tampons and that was her decision, you can only guide her and provide her with the necessary items but she needs to decide what she is most comfortable with and what works best for her as an individual. The cup is not a good option for such a young girl in my opinion, but again, make up a basket of different things for her to try, throw in some chocolate and magazines, maybe some of the disposable heat wraps. Make it as pleasant as possible for her.

Menstrual cups aren’t new :joy:

It sounds selfish, because you are making seem this as you are more worried about her losing her virginity with a tampon rather than create memories with you and the Fam. Tampons and cups are almost the same (except for the cups flexibility) Just remember this: if this are your worries , Putting in a tampon can stretch a girl’s hymen but she stays virgin ad longer she doesn’t have sex. (If this is why are u worried)

There are period swim suits on line. They can be expensive though and probably won’t get it in time.

My daughter is 14 and she is finally using tampons. Get regular size for her. It took her a while to learn but it’s worth it. She is on swim team so she needed to learn.

It’s 2021 and we’re still dictating what our daughters use for THEIR periods because YOU aren’t comfortable with it? That’s simply
Gross and far too controlling. It’s HER body. How about you let HER decide what she’s comfortable with?

How would YOU like it if you were on vacation but YOUR MOTHER didn’t let you use other means for your periods to enjoy it?!

Or dictated these NATURAL occurrences for you?! That’s truly just disgusting.

Try Flex. They’re easy to put in and take out, leak proof, swim proof and comfortable. No dumping or washing. I suggest period panties for night time. Much more comfortable than pads.

Honestly tampons or using a cup will be her best bet !

CUPS ARE THE BEST!!! 100% easier than a tampon, you would only need to rinse it once maybe twice a day doesn’t need to be done every bathroom use.
As a kid we would go on vacations and sometimes I would get mine yes it sucked but dealt with 1) not going in water or 2) wearing a tampon. There’s a lot more options than just pad, tampon and cup.

There are period underwear now sure they have it for swimming

There is nothing wrong with letting your daughter wear tampons. You just said it. It’ll ruin her entire vacation and you’re the one doing it if you say she can’t. She can use tampons, that’s why they make them. You not letting her is not even something you should say. It’s her body. If she’s old enough to have a period she can wear a tampon. Go get her some birth control and she won’t bleed at all - but I’m wondering if you’d allow that either. They make good quality organic tampon that will be perfect for her and you should support her as her mom. Tell her when she needs to take it out and help her. She can just do it while she swims and still have a good time. Ask her how she feels not you.

So in other words , let her be a woman and use tampons :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

So what If SHE felt comfortable using tampons? I’d think it would be her choice since having a period is normal . She would be able to be just fine using one .

You can get medication to stop periods. I used to get it off my GP before I went away. When you come back you stop taking it and have the period

Look into period pants. They also have swimsuits.

We are 3 woman on the house (well 5 but 2 don’t have periods yet) and I try to accommodate the dates when my girls aren’t on their period because they hate to use tampons! One of my girls get really bad cramping and back pain so i try to do water activities while they aren’t on their period so they can enjoy and have fun!

She cant. Period. Have you ever enjoyed a vaca while on your period? Its not the same lol. It sucks but if she must. NO midol! NO tampons. (Both are not healthy) esp for a 13yr old. Just Tylenol and pads. Its not about being cool and fashionable Its about being healthy and happy. Het first day would only suck anyways.

I started mine around 12 and by 13 I was wearing tampons. It’s hard for me to suggest anything without knowing why you aren’t comfortable with them. If it’s tss then you just need to work with her to help her remember to change it. With the cups it’s a learning curve just like any new hygiene care. You shouldn’t think it is disgusting and if you teach her that now she will always feel that way about it. Give her the choice. Sit out or try the cup or tampons etc. like any female it’s trial and error to find what we prefer and also just figuring out our bodies. With her flow it’s the same. She just had to learn her body over time.

Definitely let her decide… no offense but I’d be mortified at that age if my mom was telling me what I can and can’t wear for my period. Let her decide and be supportive of whatever she chooses. It’s a natural thing yes it sucks but it doesn’t have to ruin her vacation…

I use a cup. I switched a couple years ago and it was a great decision. 100% better than tampons.

If you can figure a way to feel comfortable with a cup then you can feel comfortable with a tampon for a few days. I’m not sure I’d want to be waist deep in an OCEAN with any scent of blood around me though.

Why are you uncomfortable with her wearing tampons? If you’re worried she won’t change it out timely choose a code word only the 2 of you know to remind her about changing it. If she just recently started having periods it could be late. Not all the time is it regular right away.

We were meant to go on our 1st family holiday abroad 2020 and typically my daughter was was due slap bang in the middle of it, hasn’t used tampons yet so I was able to get her medication from the doctors, has to be taken a few days before her period is due and you keep taking it for the duration of the holiday, stops it coming then comes when you stop taking it. Our holiday got cancelled and again this year so never had to use it in the end

So I just want to ask one question…there are people saying, “it’s her body. Let her decide.” Here is my thought…this is her child. If there is a chance that something can harm your child, “toxic shock syndrome caused by tampons”, would you just let your child do it? Drugs are harmful and can kill you but it’s HER body so we should just let HER decide if she wants to use them? Talk with a doctor and research your options. Do what you think is best for YOUR child momma:blush::heart:

I wore tampons about a year after starting my period… why don’t you want her to wear tampons? It’s really the only way she’ll be able to go swimming… unless you start her on birth control or something to stop her period while you’re on vacation. The pills anyone is suggesting would be hormonal, I’d assume. And would be like taking birth control for a week and then stopping

The cups or even discs are no more gross than a pad or tampon. You dump the blood in the toilet and rinse it out and put back in. Or if SHE is comfortable let her use a tampon. They make period panties also. Could check for swimsuit bottoms.

Also there are small tampons that click in place- you can get super absorbing- and she would be fine the period underwear and swimsuits will just pool a heavy period.

My mom took me to the store the day I 1st started i was 13 as well she showed me pads and tampons we bought both and it took me few months to ever try the tampons but once I did I was completely better with the idea couldn’t feel it no side affects just had to change it out every couple hrs

The cups are not new they have been around at least 50 years or more ,I would use Tampons I believe they will have a smaller size that will be better for her

You won’t let her use tampons but are ok with a period cup? I don’t understand. Both go internal. I’d teach my daughter how to properly use tampons if she wanted to learn.

Get the small tampons and show her how to use them. Then maybe both would be okay with her wearing them. If not she is not going have much of a vacation.

There is a disposable cup that is like the other cups but don’t have to worry bout washing out when removed just pit some tp in it and toss very comfortable to wear and can be in up to 12 hours so perfect for days at the beach and water parks then can use pads other times where I live you can find them at cvs or Walgreens next to the diva cups

I started using tampons at 13. She will be fine. Theres instructions in the box if ur uncomfortable telling her how to use them lol . ; just have her wear tampons during the day swimming and pads at night
When shes done with the water for the day

Uh why is she not allowed tampons? That is something that should 110% be her choice.

Let her wear a tampon. I started around that age for this reason. We went to Florida and I had my period. Was shown how to use one in the hotel room lol. I didn’t even know what it was

My mom didn’t want me using tampons either but I’m thankful I waited. I was probably 14 when I used one at a friends house because that’s all she had and it was uncomfortable. I clearly had no idea what I was doing. I wish I had been able to ask my mom. The cup is the same concept as tampons, just teach her how to use them properly and how sensitive the body is. I don’t recommend wearing a tampon unless you’re going swimming honestly. You’re her mom and the decision is ultimately yours but I would suggest talking to her and get her opinion.

In the uk you can go to the doctors and get a tablet to stop your period coming, for holidays or a valid reason for wanting to delay your period, then you can stop the tablet when you want your period to come, maybe you could try that

So she’s fine, but you’re repressed and think tampons take your virginity. My advice? Read a damn book and climb out of the dark ages.

Fgs, just double pad if your that uncomfortable with the idea of her putting a tampon in HER body! Panties +pad then another pair of panties with another pad in on top of the first! Swim suit on top of that and then swim shorts so she’s not uncomfortable

For the love of God let her watch a YouTube tutorial on how to properly insert a tampon and let her use them.

The cups are very uncomfortable. I spent $40 on a small one and even given that I’ve had two children it still wouldn’t fit. The only tampons I can wear are tampex in the smallest size.

I am one of those that almost died from toxic shock so I understand of y not wanting to let your child use them right away.

See if she’s comfortable with using tampons and if she is only use them during the time yoga re swimming, if she’s not doing water activities then have her wear pads

They make period swimsuits for young girls now! Google it, supposedly they’re amazing.

Suck it up mom 13 she should already know these thing get small tampons and sit her down she’ll be happier than you think it’s not the 70s you need not to shelter her you WILL REGRET IT it’s not your BODY it’s your daughters

I started using tampons bc of the same situation…was going to be on vacation. However, it was horrible bc I didnt know how to do it correctly and half the time it was not all the way in… it was awful. Then I said f it and tried a pad… it floated away in the water lmao… mind you, I was with family, but not my parents, and was too shy to say anything to anyone there…
But I wish I had practiced more beforehand!

She can delay her periods. Visit a GP for Norethisterone tablets.
Works like a gem !!

Just use the tampon. My 13 year did when we went boating for a weekend. It’s not as scary and invasive as you think for Teenager

I started using tampons at 12. But only while swimming. We were on vacation and broke drown. 130 degrees. Mom caved so I could swim. Honestly, the cups are supposed to be safer but you still must insert them. My mother always taught us that we can do anything on our periods that we do off of them. That includes swimming.

The cup is absolutely DISGUSTING AND YOUR WORRIES IS A TAMPONS THIS MAKES NO SENCE THEY BOTH NEED TO BE INSERTED THE CUP GOES IN JUST A DEEP OR DEEPER THAN TAMPONS

I used tampons at a young age. Just make sure she knows she needs to be changing them every so often even if they don’t seem full. I also use a cup now and honestly they are way more comfortable! Basically she would need to fold the cup and insert it (there are instructions on how to do both). You definitely should rinse it out every time you empty it. When I’m out and need to empty it, I just take a water bottle in the bathroom with me to rinse it out then just put it back in as usual. The cups do hold a lot though so I don’t need to empty it even close to as often as I’d have to change a tampon. It is a little awkward at first adjusting to how to use the cup though it took me a few periods to get good at inserting it and removing it

You will have to teach her how safe and secure Tampons are!

Those swim period underwear supposedly work. A friend of a friend daughter tried them and said so anyways

What does you being comfortable with her using tampons has do with it? It’s not York body. You should be asking what your daughter is comfortable with…

The menstrual cup is actually great. She’ll be able to wear it all day long. Also look into period swimwear

I started using tampons at 12, my mom never had a problem with it and encouraged me to use them actually. Talk to her and as her mom explain to her how they work, it’s not as weird as everyone makes it out to be. Start with the lighter ones and move up to the next absorbency level if she leaks. Who wants to sit in period blood all day anyway? Pads sound like wearing a diaper :joy:

They make period swimsuit bottoms you can buy that absorb it. No cup, tampon, anything

My 11 and 13 year old girls use period swimwear and period underwear in case of leaks and a couple days before in case they are off by a day or two (which they are most months). I personally just buy black period swim bottoms and they mix and match tops this way we have a couple of bottoms to swap out through the day.

I know the cups sound gross but they are absolutely amazing. Or even a disposable soft cup where she doesn’t have to wash it out (I have never been able to get these in correctly) or only use a tampon while she is swimming and maybe try organic ones for less chemicals?

Start her on birth control it’ll kick her system out of order

Mini tampons are great for Waterparking. It’s easier to use the ones you put in without an applicator. Bloodflow usually stops in water anyway. I have heavy flow but I find minis tend to stop it being so heavy. If she’s worried she could change them more often.

Kinda sounds like your options are tampons or cup :woman_shrugging:t2:

They have organic tampons. I have very heavy periods and regular tampons hurt, no matter what brand or size. I found organic ones, and they are amazing. She’s 13, so maybe ask her if she would be comfortable using them in order to enjoy a vacation. My mom did not educate me on feminine products or how to use them. She’s old enough to know what they are and may try to use them without you knowing. It’s better to educate her on how to insert, when to change them etc. it’s hard as a mama to grasp that our innocent babies are now big enough to learn about tampons, etc. it’s a good opportunity to teach her, as well as for her to see if she’s having any issues, pain or discomfort, that she will come to you about it. It’s a crucial age, and teaching about the birds and bees can be taught as well. Rather than seeing it as an uncomfortable thing for you, see it as a bonding moment that is going to allow your daughter to know she can turn to you instead of hiding anything and not coming to you. I know it’s hard mama, but to teach her and allow her to enjoy the vacation the best she can, will be a good memorable experience for everyone. Teach her that even though we have to go through this monthly, we can still do things as normal with the right products.

My opinion is tampons and menstrual cups are practically the same. They both go in the same way… Maybe try those period panties?

The water will shock her system and she won’t need anything… as long as when she’s done swimming she goes and puts a pad back in.

Give her tampons. I am wondering what your objection is?

Who cares if you’re uncomfortable, it’s not your vagina

My mom one time got some swim pampers and I put it on as a pad then but on a tight bathing suit so it would stay in place then I put some water shorts over, it was great

Speak to your daughter. She might feel comfortable using tampons, you just need to educate her on how, safety etc. Swim underwear, mini tampon, honestly if you’re at the beach and not the water park - nothing. Also please don’t put her on contraception to try and stop or control periods, seems like they’re consistent if you can track them and this is a time where her body needs to adjust and grow on its own.

Best of luck
