How can my daughter enjoy vacation while on her period?

So you don’t feel comfortable with her wearing them, but I bet she would feel comfortable in them… don’t force your feelings on her

menstrual cups and menstrual discs are two very different things. Id either get her mini tampons or the menstrual disc.

My daughters wore tampons but they got the birth control implant due to heavy long periods and don’t get a period now.

So menstrual cups are good for when your at home in a single bathroom. When you pull it out there is usually blood on your hands, then you dump it, then rinse out the bloody cup in the sink.

I’m 30 and I just started using tampons I tried once while younger and wanted nothing to do with it but we went to Daytona lagoon while I was on it and had to use a tampon for the first time only to swim then I’d put a pad back on I think she will be just fine the cup stuff absolutely not for me ewww

Ask your daughter what she wants to wear during her time in the water.

My goodness, what’s the harm of letting her wear a tampon to enjoy her trip? Then you can force her to wear what you feel comfortable with after the trip

Tampons could be a game changer for her. No one would know and she could still have fun in the water.

Period panties and swim wear

Tampons are best thing for heavy periods honestly i used to have to use both tampons and pads bc mine were so heavy and overflows during high school were common before I started using tampons

So you’re going to ruin her vacation and make her feel embarrassed and left out because YOU don’t feel comfortable with her using tampons.
WILD. I could never.
Let that girl do whatever she wants so she’s comfortable, it’s not about you.

Ummm for the love of all that is holy please do not make that poor girl wear PADS while SWIMMING! Sounds traumatizing lol
I vote have her practice with tampons with you ahead of the trip, if she wants too

I use the cup. It’s freaking awesome. Most people can wear it for a straight 12 hours. I find them less nasty than a tampon. Let her make the decision. She’s the one dealing with it. The cup she could wear in the water and everything. It very comfortable and like nothing is there and it saves a heck of a lot of money

Kind of weird and sounds like a control freak to not let her wear tampons why are you obsessed with your daughters vagina? That’s creepy she’s a grown enough lady to do whatever she wants with her own vagina without her parents obsessing over her vagina please stop that’s not okay

There is period bathing suits that r new! Good reviews maybe look into that ;))

she has a heavy flow and you’re making her use pads :broken_heart:

I use menstrual cups and I love them. I will never ever go back to tampons.

The first thing my dad bought me when I got my period were tampons and he’s the kind of dad that says I could never have a boyfriend ( jokingly) stop being a weirdo

Too many WOKE feminnazis in this group.

Tampons are up to her, not you. Your discomfort with them is a little irrational, honestly. Your cycle is natural, isn’t shameful or sinful, and isn’t something that should be sexualized. It’s a normal bodily function that will come up for many years to come. Let her try each of these things and see what she wants. A menstrual cup will probably be more painful than a tampon whereas she’s never worn a tampon before.

What exactly is the problem with Tampons ?

Um let her wear tampons :upside_down_face: all the myths about them r a lie . As long as she changes them every 3-4 hours she will be fine . When she isn’t in the water she can wear a pad . Everytime I go on vacation I happen to start it the first day . It sucks but it’s life

My daughter has a bathing suit from ruby love. She is 12 and not ready for tampons either. Check it out

How do u enjoy vacation when you’re on your period???

My period was due the day We flew out once so my doctor gave me a prescription of tablets I had to begin three days leading up to my period, all through the holiday then you stop once home and have the period, it delays it so to speak …I didn’t even have any spotting worked a treat but she is only young so they be reluctant to do that

I use the cup it’s so much easier and not as nasty as it sounds. Or let her wear a tampon? She shouldn’t be punished for being on her period by not being able to swim with everyone else…

It is her body, her choice. Neglecting to offer her a tampon because you think it is dirty and gross is just CRAZY!

Diva cup but if you will allow this why not a tampon?

It is HER CHOICE on whether or not to use tampons.

I used the cups and just changed them like a pad or tampon. You may want her to try them out before va k

As a mom I would say allow her to wear a tampon while swimming and anytime she is getting wet. On dry days let her wear a pad.

I love my cup! It’s really not as invasive as it sounds, and they make different sizes. They’re much safer than using the materials tampons or pads contain, and are actually dependable!!

My daughter is 14 and we just went through the same thing during vacation. I started letting her use light tampons. I grew up being that girl with a month long irregular heavy periods that ruined every summer or event. Its miserable. Also. Just a thought since I’m currently going through alot with my daughter medically. Shes chronically anemic and getting iron infusions. She is actually awaiting an appt for a pediatric gynecologist. Female problems run on both sides of my family and every woman including myself has had to have a procedure due to pre cancer and to stop our periods. We have a long line of hysterectomy ,LEEP procedures, and ablations. It all started with anemia and heavy periods at around our daughters age.

Let her use a tampon!!

I would let her wear tampons, My period doesn’t stop in the water like I read of previous comment. I would just bleed everywhere. Pads will fall apart and be seen in a swimsuit. If you allow a diva cup a tampon would be smaller than that.

Her body, her decision. They have tampons for teens. Shes a big girl, treat her like one.

My daughter has been wearing tampons since her first period at 12. She is a gymnast and has no real choice. After the first attempt she was fine. She also wears period underwear in case of leaks. We buy Thinx “between“ teen underwear. If she’s old enough to get a period, she’s old enough to wear tampons. My daughter is thankful for the freedom they provide. She has multiple friends that had accidents at school because they were stuck with pads.

Whats wrong with tampons? Dont make this a weird experience for her! My mother made us use pads because she never used tampons. When i got older i was SO mad i had been using pads for so long and not tampons! Thier so much easier! And less messy! Let the girl use a tampon!

The mini u by Kotex super are what I always use, when I do get a period it’s always super heavy flow and they work fine I do pair them up with panty liners too which I’m sure would be fine in a swimsuit they don’t show or have wings to worry about someone seeing it. I have also gone swimming ocean and pool with tampons in with no issues.

You really have limited options here… Your really need to give in to something otherwise u should sit out of all the activities you make your daughter miss too

You can get tablets that postpone it for a week xx

Get a cup they make them in small for girls who haven t had kids or sex yet

I learned how to use a tampon at 12. I was at a 2 week away camp and we were going to a water park and I got my period. Some girls helped me figure it out and I’ve been wearing them since. My mom and I didn’t have a great relationship and still don’t so I was afraid to even tell her. I told my dad I used them. Be open with her and let her be comfortable. Dont make her feel embarrassed for her choices. Target and many other companies make organic tampons. Then there’s the cups. There’s also the period baithing suits. I’d offer all solutions to your daughter so she can decide what’s best for herself. This is one of those things she has to get used to on her own and she should be allowed to pick the one she feels most comfortable with.

“I don’t feel comfortable with her wearing tampons”
Sounds like a you problem, give the girl some tampons and let her enjoy her vacation.

I mean use organic tampons, the light version and change often. Only use when going in water then use pads. The risk of tss comes from extended use and not changing them often. A cup is a safer option but you feel like that’s gross so :woman_shrugging:t4:

As a child my mom wouldnt let me wear tampons. I truly had a hatred towards her for that. She limited what I could do. All while being told it was my body. That sends mixed emotions to young girls.
Let her be a teen and use a tampon if she choses to. Its not about what you are comfortable with.
I had a friend teach me how to use a tampon. I felt so stupid. Dont make her feel that way.

You can get a tablet of the doctor to stop your period take 7 days before you are due to start and the whole of the time your on holiday. :slightly_smiling_face:

Tampons is the way to go. On this one.

I use tampons and I wish I started using them when I was younger. I started around 15 and when inserted i didnt feel anything. She just needs help on how to apply them correctly. I’d ask her honest opinion and let her speak. You can tell her the pros and cons of each thing and let her have an opinion

I don’t understand when moms say they “don’t feel comfortable” with their daughters using tampons.

Why? Is it for fear of toxic shock syndrome? If it is, simply educate your daughter about the importance of changing your tampons.

Cups are amazing. They aren’t disgusting if you are comfortable with your own body. Just want to throw that out there.

Seriously, give her some tampons or buy her a starter menstrual cup. Way more comfy than a tampon and I’d think, safer.

Go to your Dr and ask for the contraception pill after first cpl of days it will stop the period

I was just gonna mention to research “period swimwear” since they do make period panties now but it looks like some others have the same idea that I do. Tampons are an option, but if you’re not comfortable, then it’s your choice. You know her better than any of us strangers do. There is a level of maturity needed to use them…especially safely. I’ve used tampons since I was about 16 or so. I definitely wasn’t personally ready before that. Good luck and I’m sure you’ll figure something out and have a great vacation!

Not just about stopping a female get pregnant cab ve used for many reasons

Girl period cups are so much better than tampons. If your aware that they are there and you obviously would be you won’t make a mess with if.

What about the period panties

You can buy those period panties on amazon I believe. I have heard good reviews!!

Okay well no offense, but shouldnt you ask her what she is more comfortable using for her body?

Menstrual cups seem gross but holy moly are they wonderful. I swear if it wasn’t for the cramping I feel like I’m not even on my period when I’m using them. It is easy to insert, and take out and they last up a good amount of time before you have to dump and wash out. I usually do it for up to 8 hrs in the beginning (but it’s a heavy flow in the beginning).

Personally, I would highly recommend going the cup way…just because they are safer. They save quite a bit of money as they are reusable…and they aren’t as gross as people think they are.

You might have to give in to the tampons….that’s really the only way to swim

How would you deal with your period while on vacation? Tampons right? Why not teach her how to use them.
OR
Look into period under ware, and swimsuits that are supposed to soak up the flow and not let it into the water, but if she is going to swim in the ocean then tampons are the best bet just to be safe sharks smell blood from miles away.

Let the kid wear a tampon goodness…

i would ask your daughter what she is comfortable doing. if she can and will wear a tampon let her wear tampon or the cup. i don’t really feel like it’s your choice as to what she uses, and as a women i would think your would understand that. i’m not here to shame or be mean, i just think that she should make her own decision on what she does when it comes to her cycle. there’s not much more you can do about it i don’t think.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with tampons or cups at 13 years of age.
Mum of 5 girls here (3 get their period) and all of my girls used tampons after 6 months of getting their period so they didn’t miss out on swimming sports or the beach. My mum wouldn’t let me and I really resented her for it. Educate and let them know you are there for any questions that she may have and leave it up to her.
My second daughter went on the pill at 13 because her periods were very irregular and heavy, she skips her period every few months if she has something on and it’s completely safe to do so.
Are you able to take her to the doctors and explain the situation and get his/her opinion?

Why are you not comfortable with your daughter wearing tampons? She’s 13. It’s not about what you’re comfortable with is not your body.:roll_eyes:

Virgins with intact hymens can use tampons. If that is your objection to her using them. Using a tampon will not get her used to having something “up there”. Using a tampon will not make her want to have sex.
If you are worried about Toxic shock, just teach her to change it often.

It’s time for tampons. Water usually stops period blood also.

Another thing, it’s not your period. It’s hers. Ask HER what she is comfortable with. You aren’t the one dealing with it.

If your worried about tampons ruining her “purity” I really wouldn’t worry as they won’t do that. Definitely talk to your daughter about all of her options and let her make an informed decision about her own body.

Well mom, tampons even if you help monitor her every 2 hours. I know tss is no joke but if changed super often won’t be hard. I have a cup. I can feel it and I hate it. Yes body wise they are better and they aren’t super gross if you have a private bathroom to wash out the cup. Have you heard of flex ring? Its similar to a cup but I heard its better.

Its honestly not fair that you restrict tampon use for her. Can’t you make an exception on vacation? Maybe not all the time but on vacation with help from you she could start to take that responsibility and take care of her own body. One day moma she’s gonna get tampons from her friends and she’ll never tell you and if she’s not taught about them it could cause an issue.

I got my first tampon between 13 and 14, what’s the big deal. She’s gonna grow up without your help, if that’s what it takes. And that’s the only thing I can think of

If she’s comfortable with a tampon then use a tampon. It’s her body not yours. Menstrual cups are also great but maybe a little too much for a young lady. Again, whatever she is comfortable with trying. Don’t make it weird for her. She’s a woman. This is what happens to all women. She shouldn’t be made to feel bad for it or told no to using whatever she’s comfortable with to keep herself clean during this time.

Period undies and swimwear would be perfect for her

Does she want to try a tampon? Let her decide, she’s the one on her period. Washing out a menstrual cup at a theme park seems like it would be difficult. Just let her try regular sized tampons and change it often if she’s comfortable with it.

You have a little bit of time for her to try out some of these suggestions. As long as it’s safe I think if should be her choice since it is her body. At that age I had to use tampons. There are more options now though then back then. Maybe review the options and discuss them with her and see how she feels?

You should be asking her what she’s comfortable with, not the internet. At 13 I was wearing tampons in the pool or when laying out in the sun. If she’s not comfortable using them, there are so many other options as others have pointed out on here in comments.

It’s her body she should do what she’s comfortable with. If your worried about TSS then time her usage. And change your attitude about something that’s normal. If she uses the cup make sure you sanitize it before you leave if she hasn’t started. Tampons will prob be less “icky” to both of you.

Not sure what type of tampons you have in the states but if they sell O.B. They will do amazing for her and she will enjoy her vacation with no worries

Maybe try those period undies under her bathing suit!

I don’t have a daughter, but if I did I would probably just let her decide what works best for her. I started using tampons as a teen and I never had an issue. I’ve never tried a cup, but I have tried menstrual discs and I find tampons easier and less messy. Also the better option for “beginners”, lol. As long as they are changed every few hours, of course. There’s also “period panties”. Just tell her about the different options and let her decide what she’s comfortable with. She can still enjoy vacation, good luck!! :beach_umbrella: :sunny: :sunglasses:

Are you serious let that poor girl use tampons. I’ve had the worst periods my entire life if my Mom told me no I would just go out and buy my own. Do you know how bad a period is with just a pad with no tampon is if you have a heavy period? Are you worried about toxic shock or something? I would get her the thinx underwear too it’s like underwear that soaks up blood incase you leak. I’ve had to leave work/school so many times because of this or end up going to the bathroom every 20 min to change a tampon and two pads seriously so embarrassing to have to explain that to people I wouldn’t make her go without a tampon or maybe look into some birth control for her too!

Ask her what she’d like to do. If she’s okay with a tampon, then what’s the issue? It is her body. Just teach her about TSS and changing your tampon accordingly. Personally, I’ve used a cup but I don’t think I would be comfortable wearing one at a water park and trying to clean it.

Diva cup, or get on birth control. A seasonal item can make it so you can control when your period arrives

If she is comfortable with tampons I would test it out. Same with the cup. See if she can find one that’s comfortable and to get used to it. I hear it’s touch at first taking it out cause you can really make a mess so you need some practice. Otherwise I’m not sure what she can do. Maybe look for a period type underneath or swim stuff.

Period swimundies by bonds?

Ppl calm down. She knows it’s her daughter’s damn period. She’s prob just looking for other options other than pads… that her child may not know about being available damn.

I just discovered the cups and love them. I ordered off Amazon… they have smaller cups for ppl who have not had babies or with a lighter flow. Also you don’t have the risk of TSS, like you do with tampons. If that’s a little too much for her tampons are great as long as she knows how to properly use them, and when to change them.. Good luck and hope y’all have a great vacation
