Mmm… I would prefer a young child wear tampons over a cup lol I feel the insertion process would be too complex for someone her age. It would really ruin her vacation if it wasn’t placed right and she spilled out.
How are you gonna be fine with a menstrual cup but not tampons
I know you said you weren’t comfortable with tampons but I got mine right before school ended in 6th grade so I was maybe about 11 ish. My mom let me use tampons so I could have normal child summer fun and I’m thankful lol
I wear a reusable flex disk and I love it. It greatly reduced my cramps and I can’t feel it. Yes you have to wash it out but it literally comes clean with some pH soap or steamed after a rinse. It is also much more cost effective. Rubylove has period swim wear and underwear you might look into but these also need to be rinsed and washed.
My mom never let me wear tampons either. Put me in a real shitty situation when I became a grown adult, scared of tampons, started my period randomly at an event and all I could find was tampons.
Only to discover tampons are 10000 times better than pads and I’ll never look back.
Try teaching her how to use them instead of scaring her away from them. Great learning moment.
They make period cups for tweens. They are smaller and I’ve been using one for about 3.5 years. Been a game changer. I wash it out 3 times a day on my heaviest, and I can go once a day the rest of my cycle. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done for my period.
Such is life…tampons sound like the way to go …
Soft cups are wonderful! Instead of a menstrual cup you have to wash and boil everyday they are disposable. They catch more blood than a tampon and have less chemicals. I personally use them or a menstrual cup.
Nothing wrong with wearing a tampon… you make it uncomfortable by feeling uncomfortable with it. Tampons are wayyyy better than wearing just a pad. Tampon and a panty liner is the way to go if you want to feel good in my opinion lol that is really honestly your only option besides the cup unless there’s a swimsuit that soaks up blood which sounds gross lol
I mean it’s her body so maybe let her decide? I use a cup and its not nearly as bad as people think. Plus I have no leaking and it decreased my cramps significantly. Also its extremely simple and easy to use. Give her the options because its her body and she’s plenty old enough to make this decision for herself.
If you are fine with a menstrual cup I don’t see a problem with tampons. Honestly tampons are the most discrete things and I feel like the most clean. Honestly at that age I was embarrassed wearing pads. I felt like everyone could see them because sometimes they are bulky!
My daughter hated the thought of tampons but I let her use a O.B. and it was small and not uncomfortable. Now she is comfortable with utex (I believe that’s the name). She won’t even wear a pad now. They are a little bigger then the O.B but she don’t feel them like she does with Tampax. I can’t use Tampax either. They are very uncomfortable for me. Not sure but I think I seen some for teens now too. They have regular and heavy in both the ones I mentioned so maybe try a multi pack for heavier days. But let her try it if she’s comfortable. A little pep talk and have her read the thing that comes with them. She’ll know if it’s not in right because it will be super uncomfortable. Just a reminder to change if she’s having so much fun she forgets. What happens if she’s out with friends, gets her period and they only have tampons because she didn’t expect to start a little early? The cup to me seems like it would be bigger and more of a hassle, with cleaning in public. But idk never used one. Try both and see what she prefers. After all she’s the one changing it and has to be comfortable doing so.
It’s her body. I’m genuinely confused about this question.
How are you OK with a menstrual cup but not a tampon? Teach her how to put a tampon in and let her have fun on vacation! She’s 13 not 10
The cup is bigger than a tampon. It’s a lot more difficult to use. I’d buy a variety pack of tampons. Have her try out the light ones first then the regular and so on. Make sure you go to a beach that has a bathroom and take plenty of tampons and a back up swimsuit. Hopefully it’ll come early or hold off until after your beach days. They also make a really long pad for back up so she can feel more comfortable at universal. Enjoy your time here
Have you considered a period panty product? Like Thinx? They even make a bathing suit with the same material, in that area. If you arent comfortable with other options, I’d look into that!
I think they make swimsuits for this…I’m not sure
I think she would be fine with tampons… it does not go so far up and she probably would Thank you for showing her she doesn’t have to use pads ever again…
It doesn’t really matter if you’re comfortable with her wearing a tampon or not, it matters if SHE’S comfortable
Menstrual cups to me are more comfortable then any tampon or pad I’ve ever used. Have been using them since my early 20s. If I knew about them earlier I would have. I went into shock using a tampon in high school. These to me feel safer and the literature. But it depends on your daughter’s comfort level.
Pads are disgusting. I’m SO THANKFUL my mom never forced that on me and I wont make my daughter either. No matter what age she gets hers!!!
I use the diva cup and it’s not disgusting. Women’s bodies aren’t disgusting while menstruating. You only have to clean the cup every 12 hours and you can’t even tell it’s there
Birth control such as seasoniqe? To stop it from coming
Ummm. It’s her body? It really doesn’t matter if YOU are not comfortable with her using a tampon. Let the kid use a tampon so she can enjoy her vacation. If you don’t let her use them it’s only you that’s ruined the vacation. Period.
You people are so judgmental. Everybody’s parenting is different. If she doesn’t want her daughter to use a tampon why is that any of your guys business?
But my advice to you is they have period bathing suits. Buy one of those.
You can buy period bathers my daughter loves her pair and has never let her down
I don’t really think what your comfortable with should matter because it’s her body, but okay.
If she’s on birth control, I think you can make her skip her period some how, or maybe even starting her on birth control pill May skip her period
All these comments about its her body are crazy. Yes clearly it’s her body. But, would you say the same if the kid wanted to have some sexy time with someone since its her body i would personally get the swimming panties. Tampons teenagers can forget about and can cause infections
Have her try the u brand tampons they come in light teg super n everything still but the applicator is not big. As long as u remind her that you have to remember to change them out shr will be fine. But its ur daughter do what u fell is best personally i wouldnt use the cup
Good Lord! A period is a nuisance but not a disease. Give her BCP that run through the vacation. That’ll stop her from bleeding.
I feel like you’ve somehow turned tampons into a taboo thing which in turn is going to make her uncomfortable with them. They won’t “de-flower” her if that’s what your worried about. It’s weird to me that you think you can decide what she uses in/on her own body. Very weird
Why aren’t you wanting her to wear tampons? Shouldn’t it be her choice my 13 year old daughter where’s them she came to me when she was ready to try them
If you decide to go with tampons, research Toxic Shock Syndrome just so that you know the signs and symptoms. I had it and currently cannot wear tampons.
Firstly, encourage a tampon. Im sure your not strictly using pads. We all know they’re extremely uncomfortable, especially for a heavy flow. Secondly, birth control can be used to lighten periods wich will make her more comfortable during it, or can be used to stop the bleeding all together( I’ll personally never go back to having a period, you cant make me lol) it’s her body and as her mom you should be properly educating her on all the options available to her, let her find out what SHE is comfortable with.
Birth control pills or patches? The menstrual cup of course has to be cleaned, but it teaches women to know their period so they can detect abnormalities quickly.
My daughter has had her period since 10 yrs old. After the first year of ruined vacations she wore tampons. She bleeds like a gutted fish . She wears super tampons on her heavier days and lights when she isn’t as heavy. She feels much cleaner and can swim. We need to get away from the uncomfortable feeling we have if it makes them more comfortable for them.
I say let her try tampons and get her a pair of the period panties to wear also as a backup if tampon leaks.
Yea my oldest started w tampons at 13 because she hates blood on her skin and she didn’t want to be left behind because she couldn’t go swimming like the rest of us. Not my child however but I do hope yall find a successful solution to this. I know how extremely upset my daughter was over the thought of being left out of our entire beach vacation. To bad you didn’t take that into consideration before you booked the trip you could have picked different days and not had this issue at all. She obviously isn’t brand new to it of she has a app so that kinda sucks on your part.
Why are you uncomfortable with her wearing tampons???
Does SHE want to use tampons? If so then let her, I hated sitting in blood diapers
As for the flow, use ibuprofen and it will subside the heavy flow, and definitely look into diva cups!!
Birth control may be an option, but I only suggest using that when she becomes sexually active , but I’m biased against birth control a bit
What she uses to be comfortable on her period shouldnt be any of your beeswax. Let you daughter wear tampons
they sell period swimsuits… Rose something… Keep seeing them in my timeline, which is weird AF since I don’t have a uterus…
Makes no sense to let her use a cup but not a tampon
I find it strange you are not okay with tampons but you are considering a diva cup (bigger and same hole).
IF she’s okay with tampons, let her use them. That’s the best option for her enjoyment and comfort.
They’re easy.
And please try to widen your horizon about what’s “disgusting”. Just because it’s not for you, doesn’t mean your daughter wouldn’t love it
I started my period at 9 years old and after my first one with pads, I was strictly tampons. Don’t let her period ruin her vacation.
There are period bathers she can buy online… that could be an option. Jump on to MODIBODI or RUBY LOVE.
Why don’t you just go on vacation not worried about it that’s what we’ve done all these years
It’s not about you anymore. It’s about her and her choosing what’s comfortable to her. You’re not the one who will have their period the whole time . Give her options and let her choose
Diva cups are awesome.
Use the cup!! She won’t know until she tries! But I think she’ll love it. Wont have to clean it out till the end of the night!
Why can’t she use the tampon
If your only issue with the cup is the washing look into menstrual discs. They are similar but disposable. Personally the cup is my favorite thing though. Way better than tampons and I absolutely won’t use pads.
No way around it. Have her try placing a tampon in now to try it out.
I’ve never in my life came across a question like this I don’t even know how to answer
I would just teach her how to safely use tampons and only allow them while doing things water related. There are lower absorbency ones so they’re not as big that you can have her use. I wouldn’t allow something with such a simple fix mess with your vacation. A tampon and a menstrual cup are equally invasive. I’ve been using tampons since a younger age than your daughter and I’m completely fine. Living in Florida, using tampons is more realistic considering the fact I was always on/in the water.
Cups have a steeper learning curve than tampons and are easier for women after they’ve had a baby. I’d encourage tampons and period undies.
Omg let her wear a tampon!
Posts like this piss me off.
I let my daughter wear tampons at 12 for water activities.
Why are YOU uncomfortable with HER wearing a tampon? Her body isn’t your body. It’s about what SHES comfortable with. NOT YOU.
I use a cup and I empty and rinse mine only in the morning and bedtime, and I do it in the shower. It’s really not different that the blood she cleans off of her body from using pads. Ultimately it should be her choice
Definitely show her the correct way to use tampons during water events
Okay… coming from someone that didn’t start their period until 17 years old my mom didn’t let me use tampons either… if we’re being 100% honest I didn’t even know much about them. I wasn’t introduced to them fully until my best friend and me were talking and I kid you not I was 19 and just had my first child. I don’t see any reason in not allowing tampons. And I’m grateful for my best friend talking to me I played sports for school growing up and having to wear strictly pads at practices and games was just gross. My daughter is now 9. I don’t know when she will start but when she does I WILL educate her PROPERLY about both. I will make sure she is supplied with both. I felt so shamed finding out about things the way I did and for what? No reason.
I’m confused why your fine with the cup but not a tampon? Health wise they make 100% cotton tampons, if you were having your period what would you do
My mom put me in Tampax super plus tampons when I was 12! All because I didn’t want to go in the pool being on my period and I only wore pads! If you don’t let that girl wear tampons and enjoy her vacation you’re absolutely crazy!! We are women! And a period should not hold us back from living our best life! And you as a mother shouldn’t want to stop her from living her best life. If you don’t let her wear tampons/or some other alternative and help her with it you’re basically telling her once a month she is going to have to sit in the house and not do anything she wants because of a period.
I bought my daughter the new period swimsuits n u don’t have to wear anything other than the suit
Just give her a tampon make her life easier
If you think that this will ruin your vacation then it probably will ruin your vacation.
Change your mindset.
Letting her choose what she wants to use to be more comfortable is probably your best bet.
Last month I was on my period while on vacation and I did not let it phase me. Yes I had a few outbursts but my family knows me
Buy her a box of tampons. She’s 13 not 3. it doesn’t matter if you are comfortable or not. Don’t ruin her vacation because you don’t want her wearing tampons….
Personally, I would try tampons before trying a cup. From my own experience as a grown adult, cups can be quite difficult for me to get in and get out sometimes and they have to be positioned right or they will leak right off the bat.
If she’s never had a tampon in I don’t suggest starting with cups. Technically she’s never had anything in her before she doesn’t know what she will tolerate. Cups took me at least two cycles to get it in where it was comfortable and not leaking and you legit put your fingers in there to put it in place instead of an applicator
Coming from someone who’s mother didn’t want me to wear tampons, offer it to her. I was so embarrassed to ask my mom that I snuck hers and didn’t put them properly for a while! I hated that my mom never offered!!
They have period underwear she could use as bathing suit bottoms maybe?
Her body, her choice. She is old enough to make that decision if she is old enough to have her period. This is part of life for women. This is nothing new. What makes you uncomfortable, might make her feel comfortable. Part of being a mom is letting your child be themselves. Educate her on tampons, cups, etc and let her make the decision she is comfortable with.
Let her use softdisc. They are disposable. Amazon has them. I use them and they are great
Why won’t you let her wear tampons? I wore them since I was 12 with no problems … Its so much better than a pad
How do you go on vacation or function with your period?
Contraception pills can pro long the period… at her age id of wanted to go on the pill just so I could enjoy my holiday with out worrying about my period… doesnt have to be a permanent thing just temp so she can enjoy her holiday x
Definitely do the tampons
Tampons are fine…I’ve been using them since I started my period at 10.
I JUST switched to a cup…June is a nice brand and they’re pretty inexpensive. I believe they have a smaller teen size that will be more comfortable for her as well. You can Google June Cup
My daughter is 13 and she uses 100% organic tampons
They have period swimsuits now… Knix or RubyLove are the two brands I’ve heard great things about and I’m looking into them for my 12 year old too. We live in AZ so it’s swimsuit season from April till October most years lol
Menstrual cups are awesome. I swear by them. If she hasn’t used a tampon then I think it would be a big jump to go straight to a cup. What about the underwear? There are some amazing brands that make period underwear and alot of them also do swimwear so you can swim in them without worrying. They have different ones for where you are in your cycle etc and great for the environment
So your daughter isn’t allowed to wear tampons because you are uncomfortable.
Not your body. She needs to use what she feels comfortable with. If she knows that she has to take them out every 2-4 hours and no later and she’s responsible like that it should be her choice.
If she can wear tampons she can go into the water and enjoy her vacation like everyone else.
Get over your imagined discomfort and allow her tampons. Period.
Period undies and period swimsuit bottoms
I have had heavy periods my whole life. I prefer pads BUT when I HAVE to use a tampon I like the Playtex Sport Super Plus
I feel like no matter what advice you get on here you probably would do best and feel best if you call her pediatrician and discuss options with them.
The pressure from the water automatically slows your flow sometimes stops it so wearing a tampon would not be concern for heavy bleeding and they make them for all flows
Do the tampons she’s old enough and let her enjoy the vacation with y’all
Let her try tampons. Or the cup. I personally use the diva cup and have very heavy periods with a lot of big clots. The cup works best for me. Never had a problem with leaks and isnt as gross to clean as u might think. Washing it everytime u have go change it is ideal but if im out in public i just empty it in the toilet and wipe it with tissue and clean it when i get home.
They have tampons for teens. They are very small
Imagine being a woman, who has/had periods herself, and treating/talking about your daughter like her bodily functions are such an inconvenience to YOU.
JFC. I feel so insanely bad for any teenager coming into her womanhood with such a repressed, immature woman for a mother.
Get her period panties and teach her how tampons work. Don’t make your kid feel like shit for her period app not lining up with your vacation. As if she’s even freaking regular enough for her app to be 100% accurate. Jesus, the oppression in this post Is disgusting.
Is this a joke? You have a 13 year old daughter who probably just recently started her periods and you are upset that YOUR vacation will be “ruined”??? On top of that, you won’t “let her” use things that would make her time more enjoyable, because you probably weirdly associate inserting tampons with sex or some form of “losing her virginity”. Not to mention that you probably will blame her for making your vacation miserable the whole time. How about teach her the proper way to care for herself during her period, not shame her for things she LITERALLY CAN’T CONTROL, and educate her on the proper way to use a tampon IF she chooses to use one. A menstrual cup would probably be way too complicated for a 13 year old to use, BUT it is the best option for periods in my opinion 100%. Saves money, you don’t leak, and no waste. It’s not disgusting unless you’re immature and can’t handle getting blood on your fingers. I’d get her one and let her try it (a June cup is a good cheap start it’s only $6). Let’s stop shaming children for getting periods and instead educate, love, and comfort them instead. I can’t believe how insensitive this post was.
My grand daughter used the menstrual cups loved it.
If she were on birth control pills she could just not take the sugar pills for 7 days and start the next months script, I used to do that and avoided periods around awkward times, but being 13 she may not be ready for BC before vacation. There are tampons for teens and they worked well when on vacation at a water park in Sandusky OH and she of course started that day, it took some training but we remember that day well! There are chemical free tampons, would that ease your mind?
