Dad answer: White Castle

Make sure he’s drinking loads of water

My son had the same problems and he gets miralax everyday and has been on it for years and we had to keep him on it cuz everytime we stopped the miralax it would clogg him up so our doctor told us everyday!!!

We have same with our Grandaughter. Thankfully, hers was apparently milk. The mirilax had to be started over as complete clean out, then gradual reduction of dose till regular. Lactose free milk takes about a month to see difference (we didn’t try it long enough first time). We still use mirilax occasionally when I notice she might be heading into constipation again. Really have to be vigilant! Plenty of water, juice. Just heartbreaking to see them suffer with this!

No bananas or toast rice or red meat … Foods used to stop us up… stewed Prunes are better than prune juice…cut up pears better than apples…tons of liquid… dehydration will slow bowel movements…

Check for intolerances, particularly soy which is in everything

Have him tested for Hirschspring disease. Not sure of the spelling. It’s a disease of the intestines where colon does not function properly to push the food through.

He is likely allergic to the food he is eating

Take him to a pediatric chiropractor!

That’s not an allergy. He has a bowel issue. And that needs looking at and probably sorting via an operation. Not the best but there is a physical issue. Allergy :thinking::sleepy:

Perhaps you should consult a pediatric gastroenterologist. Some children can suffer “pseudo-obstruction,” or other gi maladies that otc products are ineffective at treating, and which require expert diagnosis/specialized intervention.

Give him a whole raw pear skin on. My son had troubles too but if we gave him a pear it would break everything loose the next day. Got to where we would give him a couple a week and it helped.

I did but I put my son on powdered milk and it was an answer to my prayer.

Besides a GI, do ya’ll have a stool/squatty potty? I swear it’s changed my life

Fruits, veggies, water, exercise. If that doesn’t work, talk to your pediatrician to let her know what you’ve tried.

Does he get enough fluid? So often we all dont take in enough fluid during a day.
Even if you’re/he are eating enough fibre, if it’s not swollen up with fluid, it isnt beneficial.
Large quantities in one go are very off putting for anyone, so constant small sipping amounts are perfect. Keep a sippy cup (or whatever) and keep offering throughout the day, until the recommended daily quantity is consumed.
But keep the fibre up too.

Raw apple cider vinegar…1 shot mixed with 8oz water…they sell a blueberry flavor called healthy shots…seriously works…

Change his diet asap

What the hell Facebook turning into a Ann Landers thing now

Lots of vitamin C and a nightly magnesium supplement have helped me.

You could try abdominal massage to get things moving.

Try the Calm products by Natural Vitality. Check with them and see if there is any type of magnesium glycinate products that they could recommend for kids!!! I have the same problem and I take two capsules at night and go so good the next day. I take their magnesium glycinate capsules made with lavender and lemon balm. I know they steer away from kids taking it but IT WORKS Check the line out and they might have something for him!!! natural vitality.com God Bless Hope this helps It sure has helped me:100::100::100::100::star2::heart::heart::100::100:

Have you try probiotics. There are many safe for children as young as 2. But definitely a GI specialist.

Have you tried milk of magnesia?

stewed prunes with custard

Try fresh orange juice

My mom would give us dark karo syrup. Always works

Have you tried Prune juice

Make sure he’s drinking plenty of fluids. Water is best, but fruit juice can help too. Might be worth having his issues investigated further. Is he having a bowel movement every day?It helps if he doesn’t ignore the urge to go. Lifting his knees to hip level may also help as it’s a more natural squat position (you can buy special stools to help achieve this). I had constipation as a young child, part of it was I got into a cycle of not opening my bowels because it hurt, which of course made my movements bigger and harder and caused more pain when I eventually had no choice but to go. I ended up on enemas, which I hated because they were painful on insertion. My problem seemed to sort itself out (probably because I hated the treatment)

Does he drink enough water?

I have been a pediatric nurse for over 21 years. I would suggest you have him seen by a pediatric GI MD and/or pediatric surgeon. He may have undiagnosed Hirschprung’s Disease ( a lack of nerves in the intestines). Some kids are not diagnosed until they are preschoolers. Good luck

Go see a functional medicine doctor. A western medicine doctor won’t help.

My son is 13 and has had chronic constipation since he was 2 and has had his stomach cleaned out twice.
Miralax never worked for him. Since he has SPD, he’s a picky eater and doesn’t get the proper nutrients in a lot of the time. This round, the GI suggested EX lax. He gets it daily and he says it is helping. Now it’s been a while since I’ve had a toddler and I never gave mine sugar free anything but I would run it by a GI specialist to see if you can give him EX lax or sugar free candy which my son said also helps him.

All I have to say is PLEASE DO NOT USE MIRALAX. I was prescribed that as a child and it caused me severe neurological damage to this day

My son had the same issues as a toddler. The only thing that worked for him was Aloe juice.

Prune juice worked we found Panadol bound my daughter up nurofen was fine but

Suppositories worked for my little ones.

Milk and apple juice. Has worked for all of mine. :person_shrugging:t2: The milk has em poop right away. :joy::joy:

Try suppositories. They work very well for little ones. I know you said miralax stopped working but did you try it everyday? My grandson had to take it everyday.

Culturelle makes a regularity powder specifically for toddlers. It’s probiotics plus fiber. No flavor so they can’t even tell it’s in their water or food. It’s very gentle and is the only thing that helps keep my daughter regular.

I give mine apple juice and works everytime.

Test for celiac disease or feed him like he has it.

My pediatrician told us miralax for 6 straight months no stopping

I would take him to a GI specialist - he may have an obstruction that needs to be surgically corrected and as good as our baby drs. can be they don’t specialize in all our kids issues and this sounds like one of those issues. They can suggest what may work but not knowing exactly what is causing it could make the issue worse and the reason I say to see a GI specialist is that you mentioned he had twisted intestines which is very dangerous for anyone of any age.

Be extremely thankful your dr isn’t just shoving miralax down throat as a bandaid! That’s gonna lead to some answers. A GI specialist is more than likely gonna do the same. Keep in mind the bottle on miralax says not for use under 17 and not intended for more than a week usage… if something happened to your child nobody could be held accountable because you listened to a dr that gave you a prescription stating the obvious.

I’m in a group called parents against miralax. It’s a group with 20k+ parents of constipated children that give ways to deal with constipation. Join it. It’ll help. Been where you are. Hugs mama.

When my daughter was little, I had to give her Miralax every morning. Some days the amount I put in her juice was more than other days. But she was on it for probably 2 years before I took her off. Pediatrician was the one who recommended it, cuz nothing else worked for her. Talk to your pediatrician about keeping your kiddo on the Miralax for a longer period of time.

There is a tea called smooth move tea, you can get it at Walmart I think but I always order if off Amazon. My son is allergic to miralax but used to get constipated a lot. I started letting him drink a glass of that every day until we could get in to see his GI doctor. It takes a few hours to work but it helped him be able to go every day
I also added honey to it because its a little bitter

Try gluten free and continue miralax

Try prunes ,they are individually wrapped and they work better than laxatives. He should go after a couple of days then will go every day if he eats one a day.

Kayro syrup, water, Apple juice. Also, is something hes eating making him constipated possibly?

Try papaya. It keeps the stool soft.

YES! My daughter has suffered with this since she was born …it got worse as she got older she would hold
It and it would get so bad she would struggle to get it out …and because of that she refused to go on the toilet…but in the last week she has started going and it’s like 4 yrs of constipation has just gone
I would use movicol the kids version and sometimes apple juice would help…
I feel ur pain with this it’s really awful watching them struggle :disappointed:

My daughter has struggled since birth. I had to contact a health visitor who in turn referred me to bowel and bladder team at our local hospital. She is now on 1 movicol a day (2 if we feel she needs it) and 2.5ml of dulcolax at night and its worked for her but if she misses any dose then we have problems again. But please contact a health visitor in the first instance xx

When son was a toddler he did. One of the things was lots of water a little less fiber and raisins that what helped him out. I hope this helps

You might like to find a chiropractor that has the pediatric diplomats. The vagus nerve has a loop in the upper cervical area. There is a simple and not painful adjustment for that area by hand or with an instrument that usually helps. Don’t worry, it is a very gentle and safe. My female classmates who have taken the additional training in this area are absolute experts in this area

My son always suffered. I used to make stewed apples with brown sugar and prunes. He loved them as a dessert and it helped with the constipation.

Sounds like this wee guy needs specialist help. If you can afford it i would try a Homeopathic Practitioner for remedies.

Try acidophilus . I got at the health food store. Put a little bit in his food. Its cultures his guts are missing. . and assess his stress situations. . helps me

Over 35 years ago my son had this problem and he was put on lactulose for 2 years and this solved his problems.

Check what is in the children’s protein that you are giving your child. I will bet that your child reacts to that ingredient. Maybe it is milk related protein. You must be obsessive about the ingredients being used.Find out the source of all additives or processed ingredients

Mineral oil at night and change his diet…fruits and veggies and protien!

Probiotics and chiropractic. Liquids liquids liquids esp if on miralax and the miralax flushes out the gut flora so need to replenish with probiotics.

I had to do the same thing with my
Son I used one teaspoon of the dark
Karo syrup in his milk and that really help him

Mineral oil on top on literally anything! That’s what my parents did in the 90’s for me and it worked wonders

I used fibercon tablets with my child and acidophilus milk. Milk with yogurt cultures in it to help with digestion.

GI specialist and get a GI workup. Get a vitamin panel too to see if there are any deficiencies.

Iberogast might be worth a try.

Milk of magnesia works quickly

My oldest was like this as well. I had one dr suggest a magnesium supplement for him, and it helped a lot!
