She said she JUST found out. Meaningā¦ she had no idea she was pregnant when said drug use occurred. It was not a CHOICE to put her baby at riskā¦ she was fully unaware there was a baby! Now she knows. But what she did before she knew is really none of anyoneās business or place to judge.
PS not every person that has done a drug is an addictā¦ soo donāt throw out how addicts shouldnāt have babies. She could very well not be the slightest bit addicted. I have plenty of stories about college. Keep judgments to self until you have all info.

In the state of Ohio your OB canāt legally drug test you unless they are telling you they are doing so. When they have you pee in a cup is to check your protein levels they donāt test for drugs. FYI. But when they do blood tests they do and will see it. But legally they canāt drug test you unless they are advising you they are. 
per my own OB OFFICE, and doctor. I donāt even smoke weed but for others who really wanna know. Thatās what Iāve been told and have been advised sense my two boys were born, and now that Iām about to have my third.

So let me just put my own personal experience out there I was 5 months pregnant when I found out I was pregnant. I was also addicted to heroin and meth. I found out I was pregnant in treatment. My daughter is now 4 and is healthy. She was healthy when she was born and had nothing in her system my advice be up front and honest cps came to the hospital they tested the umbilical cord and she had nothing! If itās weed again just be honest. Gotta love haters that jump on the bandwagon quick to judges oh and I have almost 5 years sober

They will test you if you tell them you have done something yes. But no they do not just test you to find out if you are positive for something. There would be a ton of people in trouble for things that may have happened recently before you knew. Good gosh people

always tell them the truth because they can see it in your blood work. you have dr patient confidentiality but if you lie to them they will say you have a problem. if you offer the info before being asked they will just ask you to stop unless its marijuana. they dont care too much about that so long as you keep it to a minimum and are honest.

Pretty sure it depends on the state you are in but I donāt believe they can just test for drugs without your consent. I do believe in most states they have the right to test the baby at the hospital if itās showing signs of withdrawal

Yes they do. According to HIPPA laws they cant report you for it, as far as Iām aware. But they need to know so if you need to be put on medication or theres an emergency then they can adequately treat you without any fatal effects.

They ask at initial appt when they start paperwork if you partake in drugs etc. Theyll find out when they do bloods anyway so just be honest
I smoked marijuana thru my whole pregnancy. I was in and out of the hospital a good 14 times during my 37 weeks of pregnancy. Never once did anyone say anything about marijuana being in my system. I worried so much when I got closer to my due date so I straight up asked my doctor. He told me that marijuana wasnāt a big deal and that it wasnāt routine to do a drug test unless there was suspicion of drug use or if the baby was going through withdrawals. Now, if it had been any other drug, Iām pretty sure a red flag would have been raised, but with marijuana i think no one really cared.
Be honest with your dr for your babys sake.
I drank alcohol the day before I found out I was pregnant. But after I found out I quit of course. Much love!

Even when they have you pee in the cup they can see if there is drugs long story short I used to be on Zoloft it comes out at benzos in pee after I had my daughter they tried to take her they did Research before doing so and found out that Zoloft comes off as drugs in your system even if youāre not even taking drugs so yes even if they donāt say that theyāre going to drug test you they still do

When your child has withdrawal symptoms you will be face to face with child protective services. Not that you dont already know this but any drugs including prescriptions and over the counter drugs are harmful to your baby.

Look eating a poppy seed muffin can make your drug test dirty and have them calling the state! No joke. Narcotics anonymous meetings are great or AA you will find relief! Not normally. I mean if this is your first pregnancy they will ask you a history of questions about drugs an if youāve ever had a miscarriage or if youāve ever been a victim of rape or anything like that an they write it all down an keep it in your file but they do encourage momās that are actively using to stop an some doctorās will even give you a case worker to help with the step to be able to stop.
Maybe you shouldnāt be thinking about having a child if youāre involved with drugsā¦just a shot in the dark, idk.

Yes!!! but I told my ob I smoked weed while pregnant cause I couldnāt keep anything down and he wasnāt concerned cause I was puking everything that went in all threw my three girls I hadā¦but other drugs you should no better!!! donāt do that to your child it will cause so much harm to them.

Some do and some donāt. Just be upfront with your doctor from the beginning. Your hospital may test you and baby too when you deliver.

I donāt know where you live or what your situation is. When I worked in L&D, sometimes they would test the mom or the baby. I was never told exactly who gets tested. As for me, I was actually prescribed opiates while pregnant but was afraid to take them. I was never tested. I know a baby who was damaged by maternal drug use. Both mom and baby tested positive for meth but nothing was ever done about it. If you canāt stop the drugs, be honest to the clinic. Maybe they have treatment programs that can show you are making an effort.

They may or may not it seems itās different everywhere, but please do NOT let that discourage you from getting early prenatal care. Iām sure it will be fine, just tell them the truth. Say it was before you found out, IF something comes up.
Until you can get an appointment they sell prenatal vitamins over the counter.

Yes they test for drugs even at first prenatal visit. Then when your babies born they test the first poop, the meconium for drugs in which if it comes back positive expect CPS involvement.

Just trust in your doctor. When I found out I was 6weeks pregnant, I informed my doctor of the amount of alcohol I consumed during my stay at my in-laws, pre- and post- Thanksgiving weekend. I had an ectopic pregnancy at 6 weeks and we thought it could be a natural miscarriage.
As soon as I found out, I stopped drinking altogether.
They can also help you fine support. I had my doctor and they also have new moms/girls/women see a counselor - thatās there. If they ever need to.
Your doctor will never judge you. Theyāre on your side. You need to be completely honest with them so they know what to do to keep your little one and you healthy and comfortable.

Just be upfront with ur doctor. Thatās what I did. Of course thatās when smoking weed was considered a criminal offense. I didnāt know I was pregnant at the time. I smoked weed & drank alcohol. I freaked when I found out. That was the first thing I ask my doctor, if it was going to hurt the baby. He said no. It was probably to early on. Just donāt do it anymore. I didnāt. I had a healthy 8. 10oz boy!
If there is no suspected use, they donāt. But if there is suspicion, they may test at birth

It depends on the situation but I agree with most of the other responders just be honest. When you didnāt know you were pregnant you didnāt know now that you do youāre responsible for everything you do from this point moving forward.
I was 19 the first time I got pregnant and I was on my own for the first time. I smoked weed, got drunk every weekend and found out I was pregnant at 12 weeks. I was terrified!!! But I stopped everything and 6 months later had a healthy baby boy. I told my dr and I was never drug tested the entire time. If I was no one ever said anything to me and I never saw a DCS worker. Just be honest AND STOP!
