I smoked weed my entire pregnancy because I was unresponsive to all nausea medication. I was completely honest with my doctor and she encouraged me as long as it was in moderation

I smoked weed (yall can come at me if you want 
) and I delivered a healthy 7lb 3oz baby. All that happened is because I tested positive at the time of the birth, they got a social worker to come out and visit our home to make sure she was safe and taken care of, which she was of course, so case was dismissed!
Oh and the women on here judging can shhhh because I bet most of them had their lips around a cigarette while pregnant

They never drug tested me… but then again I was honest with them and told them that I wasn’t doing any drugs. There nasty!! And hurt the innocent babies! I did smoke cigs tho but cut back then eventually quit

Only had one or two cigs a day on a weekend before I got pregnant with my 4yr old I smoked half a pack of cigs in one day

Yep. And idk about your state, but in Missouri, if your pregnant and fail a drug test, they are obligated to report it to CPS/DFS
I failed for marijuana and had to go through a 6 week program after my daughter was born.
Just an FYI! I just want to say, for those of you saying “stop now” it’s not that easy!
Even a Dr will tell you that withdrawal could sometimes be worse on a baby then a drug itself. It all depends on what she is taking or doing!!
Also, for the person asking…plz Just be honest with your Dr about whatever it is. And even if your on a prescription “drug” be prepared to stay in a hospital for at least 5 days, that’s how long it takes for them to monitor baby to see if it has any withdrawal side affects. And if this will be your first rodeo, than I’m telling ya, those days in the hospital will be the longest days of your life and will be very trying. You just have to push through it and stand your ground (Depending on what this drug is that your worried about)
I know this because I have had three babies and with all three babies i was on the same prescription medicine and had to stay in case of withdrawal. Social workers were contacted. And also, they’ll consider you high risk which means you will have double the appointment and double the ultrasounds.
And one more thing!
I had some nurses tell me one day in conversation that every time you pee in a cup NO it is not drug testing.

Everyone is telling her to quit, maybe she did or is trying to and doesn’t want to fail a drug test, yes she should be up front with her doctor and yes she should be quiting whatever she is doing, but it says she just found out that she was pregnant. So don’t judge people by one question when u know nothing about them

Honestly, I’m sorry. But wtf kind of question is this even anyway. If you’re pregnant, stop doing drugs. If you feel inclined to continue, abort the fetus for the love of god do not bring a drug addicted baby into an already royally fucked up world (and life, if you’re evening questioning this I can only imagine). It’s 2021. There’s far too much information READILY available (not including common sense) to be posting to any group asking such a ridiculous question. They make me pee in a cup every time I go, please be TRUTHFUL with your OB/Midwife if you go to take your first pee at an appointment, just let them know something like “hey I smoked some weed right before I found out I was pregnant, but I did stop” (if you stopped) I highly suggest you don’t do drugs while pregnant at any time. ALSO They will take a blood test for drugs on your baby and do testing on other things when you deliver your baby so they can see if you used any type of drug during your pregnancy.

I got tested to check if I was pregnant. So im sure they also screen for drugs. HUGE TIP Do not eat Poppy seed ANYTHING.

They do normal bloods which does show up what’s in your system but by all means you can refuse to have your bloods taken

Say no, plain and simple your OB works for YOU, your insurence pays for any testing …which mean so do you… informed consent is knowing and understanding everything done to your own body and you are 100% in control over that.

I was honest from the start about me smoking pot while I was pregnant. I smoked pot through my entire pregnancy. Not like getting completely fried but I was very sick during my pregnancy and my doctor wouldn’t do anything about it so I did what I had to do to feed my growing baby. I couldn’t eat or even get out of bed without throwing up unless I had a couple small hits first. I also had H1N1 at the beginning of my pregnancy and lost around 20lbs. I was not tested for drugs until I delivered.
If they don’t, they probably should.

Yes they do I didn’t no I was pregnant an found out at 15 weeks right my period has always been irregular an I was taking precautions so not me I couldn’t get pregnant right

I was never drug tested at my appointments but if they believe you are using drugs they will and continue to do so till you give birth. But I guess it depends on your state.

Yes they do if you are a known drug user! Most women think that if they are sober during the delivery time that the baby will be clean and that’s NOT TRUE, drugs stay in the babies body for 3 months!

I’ve had 3 kids my oldest is 14 and my youngest is 2 and yes they do I had my children in 3 different states too… N.M, Colorado, and texas… and now I’m pregnant with my fourth in georgia … they give you 3 UA’s through your pregnancy and wont tell you anything and if you come back with anything in your system they will have child protective services waiting for you at the hospital to take your baby…
In Texas they absolutely do check your UA for drugs. If they find them in your system at any point CPS will show up at your house when you get home with the baby.
Opinions are like assholes we all have them. Finding out that she’s pregnant is hard enough. Now the guilt of doing drugs (whatever it may be). She asked a serious question. Y’all are going to scare her so bad she doesn’t go for medical attention.

Yall are attacking her but I live in a legal state. I smoke every hour literally. I didnt know I was pregnant for the first 8 weeks and I dropped dirty on my first appt. WHY? you may ask. BECAUSE I DIDNT KNOW. Quit attacking some one yall know absolutely NOTHING about. Women use weed if they are underweight in pregnancy. My dr told me to EAT EDIBLES to help with my nausea. In legal states its different. Yall are a bunch of stick dicks.

If you are early on, and they test and you come positive, they will ask you if you do drugs and refer you to meetings and such. They will test you every month after that to ensure that you are not using anymore. The important thing is to let them know bc there are things that they can do and monitor for your baby to ensure that baby comes out healthy. People make mistakes. The baby wasn’t planned so it’s not like you took drugs on purpose to harm the child. Just let them know, stop, let them test you every month and go to some meetings. Things will be fine as long as you stop and you wake up everyday and not do drugs. Good luck

Be honest with yiur doctor if your wanting to quit. If its hard drugs please get off them asap. With weed u have 3 months to get it out of your system so drinks plenty of water n eat healthy n detox a bit. Bubz doesnt have brain receptors yet so they won’t be hurt while your quitting during your pregnancy. Hard drugs will though

In 99.9% of cases if you are up front and honest with the doctor, depending in the substance, not much will come of it. The doctor will just check periodically to make sure the levels are dropping.
If you’re worried about marijuana, they’re normally not to concerned with that, but if it’s something else, well, good luck.

It varies based on state. You need to check your state law. Just because they don’t test you doesn’t mean the standard testing for baby won’t include one as some states require every baby is tested.

If it’s your first they will. If you’ve never had an issue and there is no reason for concern they will not drug test your next pregnancies (in Colorado at least).
Maybe you shouldn’t be doing drugs while you’re pregnant, and you won’t have to worry about it

They will if you ever had a history of drug abuse and if you fail your first pee/blood test. But they really don’t say nothing about marijuana, of anything else is found in your system they will and also call cps and they will be involved they WHOLE time of pregnancy and while after, even if the baby doesn’t have anything in its system. My friend just went through this.
If you care about this baby DO NOT do drugs while pregnant or nursing. Sooo many things could go wrong for the baby and NONE of them can be justified because you wanted to get high.

Yes, I just had baby and without consent my blood was tested for every drug known even oxycodone…I have the report on my chart to prove it…so be aware and different states may do it different
Seems like it depends on the doctor/hospital. With this pregnancy, the first doctor I went to tested me every time I had an appointment. Then I switched doctors and he’s never tested me. With my two previous pregnancies I don’t think I was drug tested except for the first appointment and when I gave birth.
I have 4 kids live in Colorado. Every kid every appointment they drug tested .

Yes and if you are positive most OB/GYNs will have you sign a contract to be tested periodically.

To answer the question: yes. And they will periodically throughout the pregnancy. If there shows drugs in the beginning (which isn’t abnormal) but shows less or none in the system as the pregnancy progresses then they generally won’t worry about it but might ask a few questions about usage and frequency. Just be honest. Then they’ll like test the baby once it’s born.
Just going forward, now that you know you’re pregnant, you refrain from drugs/alcohol/cigarettes for the health of the baby.
