I just found I'm pregnant and want to know do they drug test at pregnancy appointments?

Why the rude comments?! This momma asked a simple question an so many attack her :frowning: in Canada they don’t do drugs tests. As some other comments said if your comfortable to do so. Let your doctor know they will help, they can give you support an resources on what needs to be done for your safety an the babies!! Congratulations on the baby momma hopefully you can break what ever habit it is for the both of you! I know it’s difficult but you got this!

It depends what state your in for laws. I straight up told them I smoke weed. Some doctors are fine with it some doctors push their beliefs on you. Now if your talking hard drugs that’s a different story…

They do when the child is born

They don’t but now that you know please please stop. If you need help get some. Also they will test the placenta after birth if they suspect you are using. The placenta holds everything. Good luck

I tested positive for marijuana at my second appointment from when they took my urine at the first one and they just told me to stop using I’m not sure what they do if you test positive for anything else I’m not assuming you just didn’t go into detail with what type of drugs obviously if it’s anything hard you’d stop and they took urine at every appointment so they can test it for whatever they want to

Some people just should not be fertile :woman_facepalming:

Yes they do before every appt if you in the past have tested positive for drugs… they then report child abuse to authorities and refuse to treat you or your baby… If you are still doing drugs knowing your pregnant, unless you can pay cash for your care, you’ll need to seek Health Department prenatal care or other open to walk ins facilities… That baby deserves better than your currently offering her… Get help… Stop being so self centered and consider that baby first…

To those of you trying to scare this girl- take a seat. No wonder there are so many women sho don’t get prenatal care AT ALL!! First of all, she never said she was an addict. Christ. Maybe she experimented not knowing she was pregnant and doesn’t want to get in trouble. Maybe she didn’t do ANYTHING and is worried about testing positive from second hand. Maybe she is an addict who needs HELP and you’re out here judging her before she’s even had a CHANCE to do the right thing.
Shame on you. So much for women supporting women, holy crap.

Yes they do. But I think it depends on state. I live in pa and they definitely drug test you. You need to be upfront about it. Some doctors are okay with you smoking weed if that is what your worried about. But you have to be honest bc if you lie and they find out that’s when it becomes and issue.

Yes they do… by law they have too now days… every time you pee in that cup, they drug test it…

It may depend on the drug. Call planned parenthood in your area and they will tell you.

Yes they do … And if you continue to fail them cps will get involved after you have your baby

I’m in Florida and I had 2 tests during pregnancy and no idea if they did it in the hospital as it was never discussed

Smh some of y’all are so rude. It’s disappointing seeing some of the comments on this post…

Answer: drug testing during pregnancy or after birth is completely dependent on what your state laws are. However any state will test you or baby if they suspect you are on drugs and or endangering the baby.

And for those being rude to someone who you have no idea about, shame on you… smh you don’t know anything about this person or situation or even what drug she is worried about or why she’s worried about it… there are sooo many factors or different things that could be going on…

And… FYI if it is just weed- they use to use marijuana during child birth for pain before pain medication… there are studies in countries such as Australia that have shown babies who were born by mothers who used marijuana developed faster, among other benefits… I’ve even heard of drs in states that marijuana is legal allow patients to use it for overwhelming nausea and low weight to help women have an appetite and be able to keep food down…

If you can’t just answer the question without being judgmental and rude then just keep scrolling for Christ’s sake!

I’ve had 4 babies and I was never drug tested… they’ve asked if I did any and my answer was obviously no. I could see it if the doctor had suspicions… but I have full access to all of my blood work and they just do basic labs and STI checks.

Relax people she may of did drugs before she knew she was pregnant we don’t know so let’s try not to judge. Weather they drugs test you or not stop whatever your doing so you don’t hurt ur baby. Ask for help if you need it they will work with you

It depends on the office. Normally first visit no bc u didn’t know u were pg wks prior. I’ve worked in different offices. Some drs do do it andsome don’t, depending on state laws some don’t need ur permission bc u are pg. They will definitely do it when ur in labor and if u pop positive they will check the baby. Don’t say shit tho to ur dr ab anything. They say we will help u , no they work . The only way they help is having cps there when u deliver. If u ask for help cps will be all up in ur business. If ur doing something hard like heroine and are addicted u need to ask for help, bc u could kill the baby. They will out u on methadone or suboxone. If it’s just weed tho don’t say anything.

Abeer Tracy Dusablon Magdy ha ha ha just kidding, or am I Âż

I was never drug tested when I was pregnant.

First off, this heavily depends on which state you live in. Generally, yes, they test at the initial prenatal visit to see what they’re working with and what resources they may need to help you throughout your pregnancy (whether or not you use). Then, they usually just test for health purposes (glucose, infections, etc). When the baby is born, the baby itself is tested for drugs.
I had my kids in Texas and smoked weed occasionally with the first one. They told me I was going to be monitored to make sure my baby was ok.

Why would you risk a child that didn’t ask to be here for drugs. That child has no voice but has a soul. No baby should be put through this. So sad people can’t give up that life to have a gift like a child

Yes they will drug test. And then if they find something in it they will drug test everytime you come in the office. I’m in nc.

I’m Illinois were weed is legal I’m honest with my doctor. Only use it when I can’t control sickness or for pain. I have dislocating hips and now that little laci is growing more and more it’s been more of a problem. She is excelling in growth and is very healthy. As for other drugs I don’t recommend trying them but I do recommend being honest if you didn’t know you were pregnant you didn’t knknow. That doesn’t make you a bad parent.

In Ohio yes they’ll drug test when you pee in the cup. If any drug is positive cps is automatically involved and if you test positive at your last appt good luck keeping your baby

They will drug test you. If you continue to be positive throughout or test positive at birth they will call CPS. But the first time they will ask and see if you need help.

I believe they will and also upon giving birth. If the child is born positive to toxins your baby can be taken from you and become a ward of the state.

Not sure. I didn’t do any while pregnant. I hope whoever she is, you get a strong support system and get the help she needs.

Every state is different. I didn’t get drug tested with any of my kids but know that they usually test the babies first poop when they’re born if they have suspicions of the mother doing drugs during the pregnancy. This is in Alaska. No judgements here, I hope everything works out for you and your little bundle of joy  congratulations!!!

Why would u ask a question like that.?? Good luck cause if they find out u have drugs in your system cps will get involved will not look good on u

If you need to ask this get help now!

are you o.k.? They do sometimes draw blood during pregnancies , like for diabetes gestation to check on your blood sugars. Also after delivery they do take tests for RA factor and also for drug tests too. So if you need to find some one to guide you through this be honest to you OBGYN and they will know how to guide you with very valuable help for your future and the future of your child !:revolving_hearts:Much love to you and sending prayers for your future health and your childs well being ! You are worthy and loved!

In MI if you test positive cps is contacted but doesn’t mean automatic removal. Marijuana is legal in Michigan so they may ask people to refrain from smoking while pregnant but some drs. Here allow it for people who have severe nausea etc. Congrats on the baby!! May all work out well. God Bless

I have had 3 kids, 3 grandkids, never heard of them testing for drugs at a prenatal apt. Good idea though. If it is weed just stop.

If you didn’t know it’s not like you did it on purpose. You should be fine. :slightly_smiling_face: Just let the doctor know. I didn’t know I was pregnant till I felt super sick after a beer.

I worked in a facility in the past if you shown signs of drug use they will. If you are still using please let them know so you can get all the help you can get for a healthy baby

They do a blood test, which probably includes drug test… just be honest with dr, and they can help find you something to get clean if you need to. If you smoked a pot joint last week, they won’t do anything, but if they baby is born with pot, you’re gonna have a problem with the authorities

Honey get yourself some help. A lot of these answers are quite ignorant and I’m sorry for that - they will test your pee but no, your baby won’t be ripped from your arms, unless you fail to improve and don’t do your best to take their advice and accept their help before baby comes. The sooner the better but you will no doubt need support and professional advise so start with a doctors appointment xx

I understand you may be concerned for yourself and the safety of your child. Without bias yes they do drug test you. If you are emotionally ready and physically ready to stop be honest and they will help you get the support you need to become drug free. If you are questioning if you are ready be honest so that you can get emotional support and guidance to review your options. I will pray for you to have strength through your decisions, only you know what is best for yourself and your situation.

Yes, they test in Indiana.

In Washington, yes most definitely.

They will drug test you at every blood work you do during pregnancy, which is often. They did this with mine and didnt even tell me.
On another hand, if you need to ask this question, you need to change before that baby comes.

I’m pretty sure it depends on the state u live in that determines whether they automatically drug test. The state I live in does not drug test unless they suspect some kind of drug abuse. Some of the replies I have read people are clearly judging. Even though I don’t smoke marijuana maybe she smokes and it isn’t legal yet in her state and I wouldn’t think that is the end of the world being pregnant but that is my opinion!

In North Carolina they have a zero tolerance, they test at every appointment and at birth, they will even test the baby if needed… then of course cps is contacted and depending on the drug, your child may very well be taken…

Unless you are under arrest, you cannot be tested for drugs without consent on your part.

Some drs do some don’t. Maybe you should take this pregnancy as a sign to quit doing drugs. If your baby tests positive when he or she is born cps will remove him or her from your care.

If it’s weed most likely nothing will happen. A lot of pregnant women smoke weed during pregnancy to help with Nausea. If that’s the case and your smoking pot just let your doctor know that you smoke and the reasoning for smoking. I live in Ohio and smoked my whole second pregnancy and my doctor was fine with it. Although most doctors and hospitals do have to report to children services then they will come into your room at the hospital and ask a few questions. Answer honestly and most likely everything will be fine. I explained the only way I could keep anything down was to smoke a little bit. Just a few hits a day. My baby actually came out clean but they still need to report it. I never even had a case opened. Once they came in and talked to me children services were fine with everything and went on their way.

Although if it’s more then smoking pot there could be great birth defects or even your baby born addicted and in that case I’d get help because they most likely Will take Your baby over hard drugs. Good luck and I hope you have a healthy pregnancy :pregnant_woman:

In oregon they do drug test bt in oregon marijuana is legal so they dnt report u to cps unless u r breastfeeding dnt let any dr try to convince u otherwise they did tht to me n they still reported me even tho we switched to formula when he was a like 4 days old n as long as u cn prove to them ur using formula n ur baby dnt test positive for marijuana at 1 month old they wnt do nothing

we don’t know if she’s on drugs she only asked a question could be for a friend a sister. Someone else but yes they do drug test

Hopefully they do for your baby sake

Yes I always was I thought that’s why u have to take a pee test at every appointment

Yes and they should.

This hurts my heart for that baby. Why, just why would anyone risk the health and welfare of a precious child over some drug? I did everything possible for my baby and she was born with CP due to a breech birth. All doctors should test for drugs at each visit and at birth. No baby needs to start off life hooked to drugs.

Pregnant women cannot be tested for drugs without consent - PMC.
I’m NOT condoning it but NONE of this is in the comment section is correct. It wont let me post screen shot of federal website so you’ll have to look it up.

Call a real doctor instead of asking the Facebook doctors

Yes and do not feel bad do not listen to the negative comments. I was in that same exact boat when I was 20 years old I was on ecstasy and cocaine enjoying my life having fun at clubs and then bam I found out I was pregnant… shit happens… the plus side is finding out I was pregnant I was able to quit partying and doing drugs and I never touched it again.

If her biggest concern was if they do drug test and not what repercussions her bad choice will have on her unborn child, :woman_facepalming:
What a great mother she will be (sarcasm). Sterilize Now!

Why should baby suffer as alot never ask to be conceived then born and alot have to also go through withdrawal symptoms not exactly best start for a child who through no fault of there own should otherwise started of healthy :rage:

They do. In the beginning of pregnancy they might not say anything to give it time to get “out of your system” but further into your pregnancy they will… But be careful, I think it changed but in certain states they used to take kids from mothers at birth if they had drugs in there system through out the whole pregnancy.

Y’all hating on her question, but for real if she wanna smoke weed that’s her choice. She could be months into her pregnancy showing no signs or symptoms and be a regular smoker then quit when she found out she was pregnant and just had that question to ask. Know the story before u judge I’ve seen it happen plenty of times with how common weed is among all communities these days.

Yes but they will give u sometime to stop about 5 months after that your screwed

Well I would hope if your using drugs and your pregnant that you would have enough love and compassion for your unborn child that you would quit, and let the dr. Office know before testing so they can get you support and help. So when your baby is born it will have better chance of being a healthy baby and have a healthy mother.

So… she was just supposed to know she was pregnant? Y’all know weed is a “drug” too right and that’s probably what she’s referring to? “Her baby needs to be taken” y’all are really dumb

Just saying, if you have Hyperemesis Gravidarum marijuana does help when you are starving, dehydrated and doctors brush it off as “regular morning sickness” even when it hurts to even stand from how weak you are. Some doctors are against it and some actually encourage it depending on your state and how severe it is.

Yes, and they will continue to test you through out your pregnancy if it’s positive… depending on what kind of drugs they can take you baby from you after birth.

If you even had to ask that question I HOPE THEY DO

You know that cup you pee in every single time you go… tests lots of stuff. stop doing the drugs immediately. You will be fine, they won’t arrest you but they will watch u closely and test the baby at birth.

Yes they do but if you only have THC in your system they don’t make any kind of a thing of it and don’t worry about it. I friend just dealt with this a month or so ago.

I was reading that unless you consent to a test, they can’t test you. Laws are different in other states.

When I was pregnant, they did some at every appointment. You went into the bathroom with a cup upon arrival every time.

All I want to say is you’ll gonna be a great mother

I think it depends on the state you’re in. I’m in Florida they only drug tested me at the beginning (my first appointment) then again at 28 weeks and again at birth. I smoked weed before I found out I was pregnant I guess that’s why they tested me again at 28 weeks and birth

Yes they will test you and yes if you dont stop they will take your baby once it born cause they will test the infant for drugs also my best advice is if you can STOP using tell your dr that you will test positive but have stopped using but they will test you at all your appointments its routine at least here in my state.

Not all appointments. Typically they do in the beginning. They also do it when the baby is born. Anytime you pee in a cup for anyone I would expect it to include a drug screen.

Honestly it depends on the doctor you are seeing. Mine didnt but I know people who’s doctor did.

At my docs they do every single time.

Maybe don’t do drugs and we wouldn’t have to worry🤨

No they do not. They ask for a urine sample but no drug test

It’s funny how a lot of people are like " oh you shouldn’t do drugs". She’s most likely referring to Marijuana. And most of yall probably smoke it outside of pregnancy.
Yes they test and they will continue to throughout your pregnancy. As well as once the baby’s born they’ll test the baby to see if it’s in their system. If so and I’m assuming it’s weed. Be careful I know a lot of people who use it to help with appetite. However you can get into trouble for having drugs in your system while pregnant.

Who actually asks this question on FB??? If you do test positive and carry baby to term who is born addicted- you have a shit ton of stuff looking at you. Also- to see an addicted newborn is traumatic to see.

It’s called using protection. Obviously your negligence got you pregnant and I feel so sad for a baby being brought into this World with a parent more concerned if they drug test then the affects of drugs on the baby.

Depends on the doctor really mine didn’t at all until I asked for one cause I thought I was drugged (turns out I had a concussion that I don’t remember getting) they will If they suspect if it’s weed and legal in your state you have no worries

Idk what you have in your system but weed will be okay to fail for during your pregnancy they won’t do anything. you just better not have it in your system when you give birth if you do dcs will be on your case. I live in Tennessee so idk if that changes for diff states. You’ll get approximately 2 drug test while pregnant one around 15 weeks and the other probably 30-35 ish

Yes you do if not the first time then eventually and they definately test the baby when its born. Why would you ask such a question to the public? Do you know how bad that looks considering your carrying a child? Why are you so worried about a drug test? Maybe you should have a talk with yourself instead of a bunch of people you don’t know when it comes to your unborn child and drugs. These people can only give you answers to if your going to be tested or not its up to you to stop doing drugs while your preg. Your more worried about a drug test than quitting drugs while pregnant. I have no sympathy for you. You should be asking your doctor how to get off drugs while pregnant not asking people if they drug test u while your preg. Get off the drugs no matter what it is and think about your baby.
