What flippin states y’all in that DO test?? I did not know there is automatic suspicion when one gets pregnant… in CO there are no immediate drug tests, even as you go thru the pregnancy HOWEVER if there is suspicion, the baby will be tested and then it may be an issue depending on what drugs are found… if there is an addiction problem, please seek help weaning off as to not shock the body to then hurt the baby

I know they tested my pee at every appt for my hcg and to see if i was dehydrated and other things but I didn’t know if they tested it for drugs I thought they only did that if you had an open case with dhs

Yes they do drug test. If someone tries to tell you my dr said I could smoke while pregnant they are lying. No Dr. Is going to risk his entire career so you can get high. Even in States where it’s legal. Because 10 years from now you can go hey im suing you because my kid has autism & you told me i could smoke. Now I don’t judge at all if you do I just tell facts. If you test dirty they’ll just say hey. You can’t smoke when pregnant ect. N test you in 3 months at ur next apt
Yes, be up front with your provider, get clean for your health and the health of your baby and so you will not have your baby taken away. Make sure and go to each prenatal appointment.
You will not have to worry if you stop using drugs… it may be hard but that is your real solution.

yes. they drug test & when your baby is born they’ll check the baby’s stool for drugs. CPS will be called if you’re doing drugs while pregnant.
There is No legislation in the US that mandates drug tests during pregnancy. It is the discretion of fhe Doctor . The Docror may if: self-report by patient and a strong suspicion or documented hx of drug use. It happens most often if at birth hee baby is expsriencing exposure symptoms, withdrawl etc…

Anytime you give a urine sample, they will drug test you. Always at your first appointment and when you deliver. If you’re honest with your OB from the start, they will get you the help that you need, but you have to stick with it.

I’m currently pregnant and they test me monthly. If its hard drugs you should consult your doctor about doing a MAT program.
Depending on what drug you’re using, stop now!! Weed stays in your system about 30 days depending on your matiblism. Harder drugs, I think, 7 to 10 days. If you’re worried I would wait till u think you’re clear of any drugs b4 u go 2 see a doctor. That way u will have a good outlet with your dr.

If you go into your doctor’s appointments all fucked up and give them reason to believe you’re using drugs then they may request a drug test but you technically don’t have to consent but they are mandated reporters so they will call Child protective services on you and they can have a judgement put on you to take a drug test. My brothers baby’s mom was a heroin user during pregnancy and God knows what else so I’ve seen it all happen!
Most states have laws regarding drug use. In your third trimester positive drug test can and will get you an open case. Yes they do test. If they see your levels falling and not rising they will know you stopped using drugs. If you don’t feel you can do this on your own be honest with your provider and ask for help. There is no shame in asking for help if you need it. It’s for you and baby. I see a lot.of very judgmental comments that are far from helpful. Addiction is a mf. It’s easy for people to preach from their soap boxes. This is why so many addicts especially mothers don’t admit they need help…judgmental will not help an addict stay clean.

They will test you. And if your baby is low weight they will test your baby. Most states dont take the baby for pot. But you will still have cps in your life possibly … If you can’t stay sober… And want to be high maybe you should think of other options…

Best to be open at your appointment and if your serious to get off what ever it is they can help point you in the right direction then it is entirely up to your self. You will get the right support and help to make sure you and your new born is safe while your doing this (rattle as they call it) don’t be scared or worried your not the 1st and certainly won’t be the last women that has ever owed up whilst pregnant with (drugs) well done for you asking! Most women generally don’t give a toss and put them and there baby at risk. So take a deep breath and wrap your head around being pregnant go to all your appointment and be open and honest the rest will fall in to place. My OB did a urine test at every appointment.
Depends on if they have a reason or not. I was never tested bevause I never did drugs while I was pregnant. They test mom and baby at birth and will take the child if the baby has any drug in it’s system and in Mississippi you would be arrested for child abuse and child endangerment. If your lucky the baby would be placed with a family member until you arw released from prison.
Moral of the story: stop doing drugs before you ruin your life and that of your baby.
They do not drug test you at appointments unless there is specific reason to. No doctors or any business in any state can ask for a urine/blood/saliva/hair sample and perform a drug test with it without telling you first. However, when baby is born, if there is any suspicion of drug use during the pregnancy or some sort of issues with baby, they can test your baby without your consent. But again, it is illegal to drug test you without notifying you prior to performing the test. So whatever drugs you were taking at the time of finding out you were pregnant, just focus on getting off of them and staying clean and giving your baby the healthiest start to their life

I was never tested for drugs during or after pregnancy. It may depend on where you live too. Every state and/or county is different. I pray you have a happy and healthy pregnancy and if you ever need someone to talk to plz inbox me. I will just listen, if needed.

Surprised at how many people are saying no they don’t… maybe it’s different in other states… but they definitely drug test at routine appointments as well as when baby is born… when baby is born they ua/blood test mom and they drug test babies meconium (first poop) which can show drugs in baby’s system as far back as the 12th week of pregnancy and is HIGHLY accurate. Obviously medical professionals understand that most of us don’t realize we’re pregnant until about the 8 week mark, so as long as you quit drugs right away after finding out you’re pregnant then you shouldn’t have anything to worry about

Wow I’m in NZ and they never drug test mum or baby unless you have cyps involved. Good idea to test bubs when they are born. They should do that here too. But we also have free health care witch is way different from the usa

In Indiana, Florida and Georgia they do. My dr in Florida had me sign a paper agreeing to be drug tested every visit in order to be a patient there. I obviously didn’t mind because I don’t even like taking tylenol while pregnant.
They have to get your consent to run any tests on you this includes a drug test.
I was drug tested one time and it was because of a mess up on my chart on their end… but they tested me and baby. My 2 other babies never tested either of us. Same hospital tho. I think it depends on many things. Stupid for people to get on here and say for sure one way or the other unless they know exactly where you live, what dr you have and what hospital, and know your story personally. in my opinion. I really hope tho you quit for your baby regardless if they do or don’t test you.

They do drug screenings as part of their normal blood work, most of the time they don’t even tell you they are testing.

Yes they do. When they test to confirm pregnancy and basic metabolic panel of your blood and it will appear there, even for cigarettes. HOWEVER if you are using and voluntarily disclose you are having trouble with drugs they can help you get clean BUT you will be monitored along the way. My advice is to be upfront and stick to sobering up for your babies health sake. The tetrogenic effects of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, marijuana are severe, lifelong, permanent, and insufferable for an adult let alone and innocent baby. If you don’t disclose and baby is born with affects they test baby and find out anyways now your facing charges and the baby being taken away by CPS. You can regain custody only if you comply with the terms of you getting sober for years after baby is born. Please disclose your concerns addiction and get ahead of getting help they will be more lenient and do it for yourself too!!! You are not the first to fall preganant while using and will not be the last. Please don’t be ashamed or scared.
I’m sorry to say this but if you have to ask a question like that maybe you should have thought about using protection !!! And I will pray you get the help you need for the baby’s sake …

You can always ask what the specimen is going to be tested for. I never had to worry but I know they may monitor if you willingly submit a specimen without knowing what they’re testing for, and it be positive for something you didn’t know about. I worked in the lab and I knew what would be tested from me during pregnancy. Unless they suspect mistreatment, I doubt they would drug test you that early.

They shouldn’t do, if they did they would ask/tell you… but really if its a legal substance you’d have nothing to worry about but for the health of the baby it may be time to get some support in giving up drugs? Babies can and have been born addicted to drugs because of the woman using while pregnant… I wish you all the best for the future, and may you and your baby stay healthy

If you go into labor early, they will. As for appts in between, I’m not sure.
Once the baby is born and shows signs, they can take the baby from you.

It doesn’t matter if they test you or not, you should be honest about it so they can monitor the baby. It’s not just your body anymore it’s the world of your baby.

W my last baby I didn’t know I was pregnant till I was 5 months I’m an absolute pot head but my kids always come first NO DOUBT but since I smoked so much weed I didn’t know I was pregnant till I was 5 months & I sware the last 4 months was hell to me thinking that maybe the weed had hurt my baby soooooooo when she was born I didn’t even c it coming all of a sudden the doctor puts mija on my chest & they checked her next to me & the nurses left her in my room I was so happy & exited that finally I had a healthy baby all my older kids were born & went straight to niccu room but yea… If u only smoking weed u gotta let go because doctors can take u’re baby away mine didn’t get taken away cause I told my doctor NO CPS NO BULLSHIT whatever u r doing just quit & start taking care of u’re blessing

Pretty sure thats what got me there in one piece, and i smoke heavily until 36ish weeks with my first… I never did anything other than that so I couldn’t tell you. But nothing ever came back on me🤷♀️ I had my first at 18, and I know for sure they drug tested me with her.

Probably just worried that she did before finding out she was pregnant… jeez people. Usually they just monitor protein levels in the urine and make sure there isn’t any infection.

I think every office is different. Where I’m from they drug test in the middle & in the hospital!
If you are struggling with something please be honest and talk to someone, anyone 
! Not everyone is so judge mental & there are people who can Love & help you right where you are!!!
On a side note: if u just found out & are worried bc u did something before you knew, DONT WORRY!! It happens to a LOT of women! Just be honest! If u test positive for anything they might not even tell u, they will just retest!

Depends on if they have suspicion. With my first two I went to my OB and they made me leave a sample every appointment. With my new one they don’t even ask me to leave one ever unless they’re doing blood tests then they do to check the protein.

Yes. Best thing to do is admit it on your first appointment and inform them you hadn’t planned on getting pregnant. Than GET YOURSELF CLEAN. If you need help getting clean your dr can offer referrals for help. They will continue to monitor for drug use through the duration of the pregnancy.
