I Spend $1200 a Month on Groceries for Two Kids: Is That Too Much?

Family of 6 and I budget $300 a month

Family of 4: $800 per month.
I budget strictly 200 per week. sometimes I go over budget a few bucks and if I do, I try to reduce next weekā€™s budget by that much. Ex: spent $207 on the first Friday of November, so Iā€™ll try to keep it close to $193 this week.
I try to buy organic and non gmo as much as possible, but Iā€™ll get non organic produce and milk occasionally to help stay on budget!

Not sure if you have a sharp shopper or Aldi where you live but check into other grocery stores or go to multiple places. We spend about 350$ a month family of 2 adults one toddler. I go to about 4 different grocery stores for different items that are cheaper at different stores to accommodate our food allergies.

I would say thatā€™s true, it should be half of that, about 600.00 per month.

I spend about 200 per week. One kid and two adults. That includes meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner, snacks, drinks (water, juices, tea and coffee), pet foods and any hygiene and cleaning supplies we need.

I spend about $200-300 and there are 4 of us

Family of 4 regularly with my bonus daughter part time and we spend about 350-500 tops on food. I make meal plans and donā€™t buy ā€œname brandā€ stuff for everything. I also go through adds and shop at different stores to save money.

Omgosh. Thatā€™s crazy! I use coupons, or print them, I use Ibotta, buy most at Aldis unless they donā€™t have it. We eat organic, sugar free etc so our stuff is more expensive. Even our meat is from pasture. There is 4 of us. I made a natural almond, coconut, organic blueberry bundt cake, chili from scratch including all the spices are organic and fresh and salads for dinner. I make enough my husband can take it to work. That was last night. I made ribs on the bbq both beef and pork with asparagus the day b4. I spend about 500 a month for 4 of us.
I even have a room full of extra. Food, laundry, paper products, meds, toothpaste, shaversā€¦a room. I buy extras when itā€™s on sale, when I can match with a coupon and Ibotta. Thereā€™s times I have bought over $86 worth of stuff and paid a little lower $5. There was no Panic shopping for us when Covid happened. I have three freezers full of food because I buy and freeze when itā€™s on sale. We have a garden so I can. On top we use an app for gas. Pay way less for the best gas

We try to keep it at around $100 a week for my husband, toddler, and I. But weā€™re also lower income and would probably spend more if we could. We do go over a little so I would say about $500 a month at most. We also include household and hygiene items in that, like diapers, wipes, cat food, litter, soap, etc.

Woahā€¦ $1200 is crazy. I have a family of 6 and spend about $600-$700 or so a month but that includes diapers, toilet paper, paper towels, laundry soap, dish soap and other necessities. I shop at Costco, Sams club, Aldi and Walmart. Not sure where youā€™re located but Aldi is a great place to shop when you want to save money.

I spend about $200 a week, for a family of 4. It helps if you try to plan meals ahead, and look at whatā€™s on sale for meat/produce/snacks at whatever grocery store you shop at.

$500 for a family of 3 in GA.

I spend around $1100 a month with four (ages 15,8,7 and 2) kids at home and my husband. My husband and 15 year old are BIG eaters. Some months may be higher if we have a special occasion that month.

2 adults 4 kids all toddlers. We spend 358 a month.

$250 per weekā€¦5 people in our familyā€¦hubby, me, and our daughters (17, 19, 20). That includes our food, paper goods, cleaning supplies, toiletries, pet food (one dog and two cats). We eat healthy and fresh so unfortunately $$$$$ and this budget includes food one of my college kiddos takes back to campus with her. As much as I have tried I canā€™t seem to get it down. I go to several stores to get the best prices possible and use coupons (not an extreme couponer). We live of Florida

I just spent $150 for 3 days of meals, a week of snacks and school lunches, and toilet paper.
I usually spend $300 a week, family of 6, plus we feed my parents dinner every night.
On the weeks we have my 2 step kids, I spend more. And sometimes we feed my MIL dinner also.
Plus toiletries, animal care items, meds, etc.
we spend a lotšŸ™„

Iā€™m a family of 7 and we donā€™t spend over 500/month. Every two weeks I meal plan. I wrote down exactly what will be eaten for each meal. I buy exactly what we need for those meals only and thats all we get. But I have to be strict woth me, fiancee, and 5 kids under 11 or weā€™d never have food in the house lol

Jesus Iā€™m a family of 4 and I spend about 350 every 3 weeks. I go to Walmart and do meat bundles from a local Butcher

We have 4 teenagers full time, 2 whenever they want to come, and their friends. We usually spend $300 a week just on groceries. Depends what we decide to cook, really.

I find that itā€™s not about HOW many people are in the house. Itā€™s all about WHAT you buy. We are a family of six and spend about $400-600 a month. Half of us are plant based vegan and half not. I find that I spend more money when Iā€™m buying things in boxes/cans versus fresh. Consider this when youā€™re shopping, boxes/cans youā€™re not just paying for the food itself, youā€™re paying for the packaging. I would rather spend a hefty price on a bunch of fresh produce that can be make into multiple meals than one box/can for one meal.

Itā€™s myself and my 16yr old, and I have an in-home daycare 5 days a week with 5-7 kids daily and only spend about $500-600 monthly

Family of 4, kids age 10 and 14 usually $150-$225 a week

Family of 5, we spend about 4-500 every 6-8 weeks

My household is my husband, 2 toddlers (still in diapers) and myself. In our groceries budget (including diapers, wipes, etc) we spend about $500 per month

Family of 6 $200 weekly. I cook all our meals and pack lunch for my husband. This included little to no junk or snacks.

I am pregnant, we have 3 kids plus my man. We budget everything we need for the house(makeup, dish soap, shampoo, toilet paper, diapers, pullups, chicken food for 10 chickens, ect) and groceries. We try and do 150 a week. If we need a little extra we will spend more, and I try and hit sales when I can to stalk up. I try and hit sales, usually going to 3-4 stores per week, and base meals around what we got, and make everything homemade.

$300-$350 per week. Family of Four.

About $450 for 2 adults

We spend about $100 a week for a family of 4. I meal prep, so I buy only what I need for meals, and sometimes splurge on the kids with extra goodies.

I buy about $100 a week. Iā€™m a single mom with a 3 year old

We have 2 adults 4+ kids (my nieces and nephews come over all the time) and we spend about 500-600 a month i also tend to buy bigger things of meat and veggies no junk food

Family of 6, usually spend about 5-600 once a month on the big shopping trip. Then maybe another 50-100 or so throughout the month getting things here and there that we need.

I plan out meals for the month and buy the stuff I need to make those meals at the big shopping time. I usually wait until the week of the meals to get the veggies and fresh stuff to make food. Planning the meals out really helped my sanity and my spending because I know what I am going in for.

We spend $500-$600 per month. We have three teenagers. I cook most meals from scratch though, I donā€™t buy a lot of prepackaged meals or novelty stuff, which tend to drive up the grocery bill.

Family of 3 and max $500. But thatā€™s only if I didnt restock the extra meat or drinks the month bfor

Family of 6- 4kids 8y and underā€¦ we spend about 200-220 weekly. I make one trip to aldis and Walmart a week. So this includes food, household items, pull-ups and if we need something else(socks, etc)

I spend 400-500 a month on groceries for a family of five plus my dog food. I buy my meats in bulk and snacks. I try to use coupons or Ibotta to help save money on any other things.I buy shoes or clothes on sale and never pay full price for those items.

$4-500 4 person family.

$500 a month for a family of 4 plus 2 fur babies and all of our household products are included in that.

We are a family of 6. 2 adults, a 15 yr old boy, 14 yr old girl, 4 yr old and 6 month old. I spend about $800 just on groceries. I mostly cook as well and that doesnā€™t include essentials like paper goods, diapers, wipes, dog and cat food etc

We try so hard to be good. We buy in bulk. We plan out our meals. We try to use what we have.

We still end up blowing 1200 a month on food. Itā€™s crazy.

Family of four with one more on the way.

~$500 a month for a family of 3 here

I spend $250-300 a month on groceries for 3 people.

U must not cook I spend 500 for 4 people.

Family of 5 usually 200-250 a trip every 2 weeks. But Iā€™ll run in once a week and maybe spend 50-70$ on school snacks!

Family of 2. 200-350. We eat leftovers for every meal.

$75 a week and we buy our meat in bulk and fill our freezer plus our family hunts. We also have a garden. For a family of 6.

Around $500-600 monthly for food & drinks for a family of 4 ( we also give leftovers to my dad or aunt often) Sometimes that amount includes pet & hygiene/household items other times we stock up on that kind of stuff separately & spend $50-100 extra.

Family of 3 and we spend roughly $200-300 a month on groceries.

About $400-$500. Family of 4

I dont buy anything frozen or quick meals. Itā€™s all meat, sides, and veggies. It goes a looooong way

We spend $200-$300 every two weeks for a family of 6. I meal plan!

Thats insane! I feed 11 people, i cook big meals and spend maybe $600 a month and thats including their snacks and drinks for school. If you have an Aldiā€™s go there for pantry items, frozen etc or if ur store has a 5 for $20 utilize that. Make meals u can revamp on a different night i.e. chilli, chilli hotdogs, chilli mac etc.

We raise our own beef, pork ,chickens ,fresh eggs and our Milk fresh from the farm and a big veg garden ,we shop at the amish store we spend very little at the store maybe 75.00 a month

1150 is what we spend as a family of 4

Maybe 400 a month for 2 adults and one child, plus three dogs. Two of them are elderly and canā€™t chew properly and need extra nutrition so I cook for them too.

$300-$400 family of 5

About a 1000 a month (2 adults 3 kids)

about $400 a month, 2 adults 1 kid. 1200 is ridiculous! thatā€™s the price of my rentšŸ˜‚

Like $200 to $300 a week. My husband is a bottomless pit :joy:

Family of 5, my budget is 200 a weeke. Ill occasionally go over 10 or 20 dollars.

Family of 5. Close to $1000

About $200/week for our family of 4! So about $800 a month.

4 kids and we donā€™t spend that much :flushed::flushed:

Family of 3, $300 with coupons and buying in bulk for multiple recipes

Around $1000 a month for 2 adults and 3 children.

I spend that and we get a good amount of ā€œextrasā€. We have a family of 6. My husband and I, 10yr, 8yr, soon to be 2&3 yr old. That includes toiletries as well.

You spend $1200 a month on groceries? Wtf are you eating? Shrimp and Ribeyes? Jesus.

Family of 4 and I spend about $1000 per month on groceries

About 1000 family of 5

Iā€™d say close to $800 for fam of 6.

900 /1000 family of 6 4 kids 2 adults

Wow!! In my opinion, that is way too much! I spend about $400 a month for a family of 4 but one child is away at college so when she is home I do spend a little more. I shop weekly and one thing I do is plan my meals for the week. I also take advantage of online shopping through our local stores (Walmart and aldi both do online shopping). I save a boat load of money shopping that way. If it is available tonyou, take advantage!!

Shop at Costco, thats way too much

Two adults one child, everything we make is from scratch. Desserts to. With that being said, between that, regular snacks for everybody, drinks, school Gatorade and snacks, drinks/snacks on jobs! Probably 800$plus a month donā€™t really care to keep up with, because no matter what we will always be able to get food.

Family of 4 and we spend around $130 every 2 weeks on groceries!
My family butchers plus they hunt so we always have meat! I mainly just buy stuff for my cabinets.

Should also take into consideration the cost of living when reading these comments. We went from spending 1k when we lived in Alaska to about 600 or so a month in MO. Family of 5.

Iā€™d say we average about a $800 to $900 a month. Thatā€™s the family of 4, 3 pets and chickens.

Between $1,200-$1,500 every month but I also have a toddler thatā€™s in pull ups, newborn in diapers and takes formula, and a teenage boy thatā€™s a bottomless pit

I spend about 600 a month on groceries for a family of 6

For my daughter, my husband and I, about 400-500 a month.

I used to spend usually $600.00. Now Iā€™m alone so about $200.00. Iā€™m a coupon shopper so I get quite a bang with my buck.

Holy crap. Thats alot. I spend around 400-500 for 5

We have 3 kids full time and 1 about 12 days a month have 2 large dogs and 5 cats we spend about 1000 to 1200 I buy a lot of generic stuff nothing fancy. Also try to shop on sale if its full price we arenā€™t getting it. I love meijers rewards and mperks. Try to buy cat litter and cat/dog food when there is rewards i do buy good cat litter as cheap stuff doesnā€™t work. We also donā€™t go out to eat. We also like daily deals they sell food for a fraction of the price but it expires soon so we try to buy our snackish food there. Do have 3 kids in diapers and 1 on formula so that hurts adding an additional 200 a month so total if 1200 to 1400 total in stuff on food alone id say we spend about 900 a month

Iā€™m a family of 8 I cook breakfast lunch and dinner since Iā€™m homeschooling I can get a month worth on about $600-$700

Family of 4 about $600 a month. Does not include alcohol or diapers.

Maybe 400ā€¦probably less. Family of 6

I spend around $600-650 monthly. Thatā€™s breakfast/lunch/dinner for 2 adults and a toddler for 6 days (we do eat a few meals out but not much), diapers, and cleaning products. And yes we do buy snacks, sodas, alcohol so that does raise my total. I thought I was spending more than I should but did my research online and actually learned that Iā€™m not. Keep in mind grocery prices have also increased during the pandemic.

About $700 a month and itā€™s me my husband are two kids and Iā€™m pregnant

600 family of 4. I cook every single meal at home

Family of 4 around 100 a week

Family of 5 and we spend about $600. It all depends on what you buy I guess. Sometimes it can be a little more if we want to get fancier snacks or more steak etc.
