Don’t forget to bag curtains, teddy bears, blankets and sheets and keep washing and if your child goes to daycare, school, or camp or like someone else said friends/neighbors that’s all it takes is being next to the person! Oh and while treating her hair make sure you stay in the bathroom or something and disinfect EVERYTHING and put those clothes in a bag then the washer right away! That’s another thing if you kid tried something on or only wore it for a little while then put it back in drawer or closet they could be all over clean clothes too
Mineral oil and vinegar and every piece of fabric needs to be washed and heated for at least an hour or bagged up for two weeks or tossed. Actual bed pillows need to be washed or replaced, pillows on couches, mattresses and carpets vacuumed….but the mixture on her hair and leave it on from morning to night or have her sleep in it. Brushes and Combs and hair ties and clips need to be boiled or replaced. No stone unturned. It’s an ultimate deep clean, and even after all that she may need to lose some length. Then if you get it gone spray her hair with the preventative spray and always have it up going to school.
Alright. People are going to think I’m insane. And shes going to need a nose plug or something. Diesel fuel. Soak her hair completely in diesel fuel (obviously make sure no heating elements or cigarettes are around) and keep it there as long as she can stand then wash it a few times with Dawn dish soap. Theyll be gone.
I had this problem when I was a kid my step mom tried everything until one day she found the closest color she could to my hair and we died it, I was eight she didn’t want to but didn’t know what else to do and hoped dad wouldn’t notice, I never had lice again, I’m 27. My dad didn’t notice for a week my hair was a little different color.
Baby oil worked in our house…soaked their hair in it let it sit overnite and combed the next day while it sat we bagged up anything that couldn’t be washed …put into trash bags and sprayed them with the lice spray.Havent had a problem since.
Sounds like it is time to call in the professionals. No shame in it. I had when my oldest was in 1st grade. Like are becoming harder and harder to kill as they become resistant to the chemicals we use.
Olive oil or mayonnaise. Saturate the hair, leave overnight. It worked on my granddaughter years ago.
We had this issue. Had it under control. Dr said keep kids at home 30 days from friends house and family members. See if it stops. It did. Until on child went to a friend’s and guess what we were back at it. It was coming from the friend. Find to source of where it’s coming from. The other child’s parents had no idea. She had been infested for months and unfortunately we kept bring them back to our house. Lucky we did figure it out and notified the other child’s parents. That all and every thing in house sofa beds pillows blankets stuffed animals and all people everything more than one time.
A clinic that specializes in lice would probably be the best help. Good luck!!
Saturating her hair in vegetable oil and leaving it on all day will suffocate all of them. Using a shower cap will keep the oil from getting everywhere. That’s when you vacuum and wash EVERYTHING in HOT water. Any stuffed animals or soft stuff that can’t go in the washer - bag it up in trash bags and let it sit in the garage or storage for a week or two. That will ensure everything dies before you bring it back in the house. Also, don’t forget your own hair, clothing etc and everyone else in the house.
blow dry the hair it dries out the eggs so they can not hatch
I don’t know how old she is, but I’ve had issues with head lice growing up and nothing worked either. We dyed my hair and that’s what got rid of it
Tea tree oil is supposed to work too and rid makes a spray for everything that can’t be washed like beds, floors, couches, and everything else
Have to unfortunately check with her friends / other kids parents that she’s around and all of you have to take these precautions!!
Cover hair after washing in lots of conditioner and use nit comb and thoroughly comb through x repeat every day until there gone as the eggs can still hatch x best wishes
My mom would do the lice treatment on us then after that she would use fabric softener and comb through our hair
THIS WORKS
We have been in the same boat. Spent a small fortune on treatments. My boss at the time who has 6 children told me what they did and worked the FIRST TIME!!!
Get some rubbing alcohol, we used the green mint kind, a plastic store bag and a lice comb. In a well ventilated area saturate the hair with the rubbing alcohol. Put the bag around the hair. Let set for about 10 minutes. Then wash and comb out. You will have to be sure to get as many eggs as possible. Recheck often. This sounds odd I know. It didn’t bother our girls one bit and was the only remedy we found that worked. Good luck!
I used to have thick hair and ALWAYS got it. What worked for me is using box dye and I bought a straightener! Used it every day and never got it again!
If they’re as bad as you say they are, and I’m sure this isn’t something you want to resort to but you might have to shave her head or just cut off a good bit of hair.
Mixture of tea tree oil and olive oil on hair. Cover with plastic shower cap and let sit for one hour. Rinse with apple cider vinegar and comb out dead nits. Repeat in 3-5 days. Treat all carpets, bedding, and vehicles.
There are places that treat and comb it out for u. It is guaranteed. It’s bout 150$ where do u live? There is one in Estero. My daughter has done cheer for 10 yrs, and we battled this at least 3 cheer seasons
Man I’m sorry I felt with this for 3 years with my daughters id get rid of hmit and send her to her dads for his week visit and she would come back with it every single time. It was a night mare. It wasn’t u til he left the girl he was living with and moved out of her apartment and we took her to a lice clinic. But three years of constantly trying.
Hopefully w/all the responses you’ve found a solution by now. It’s a truly awful experience, I know! I went through it a couple years ago with my son who also has very long hair. He was out of school for literally weeks!! Honestly not even sure which thing I tried that actually worked at this point. Coca-Cola then combing & conditioner-put on dry hair and just comb-picking all the bugs/eggs out were the last two things I tried I think! good luck to you!!
Good luck… you gotta treat her once a week go like 2-3weeks wash EVERYTHING all clothes bedding curtains rugs and vacuum constantly and empty vacuum outside! My sister has 4 girls and I have one. When we all lived together if one got it everyone got it. So hard to get rid of. Shampoo isn’t cheap and neither is laundry especially if it’s coin! Good luck! Sincerely lol
I use to work with small kids, and this was what worked for parents , take anything you can and put in the dryer, pillows, stuffies, hats. Toss out all your combs and brushes . While the hair is dry coat it with conditioner, then wrap with a hot towel, wait a bit for the towel to cool and gently wash the conditioner out, combing out the lice, once done blow dry, . This seemed to work, do this to the hair once a week .
Investigate your places you go. I had that issue of not getting rid of lice and come to find out it was from a friend’s house. And every time I let my kids play there here came the lice. Once I pin pointed it and quit going there I got rid of the bugs shortly after.
Plain brown listerine. Bagged on her head. Use a metal lice comb.
Heat kills lice so putting things in dryer that cannot be washed. Bag up items for a week. Backpack purses etc all need to be bagged. Tea tree oil in stay bottle and must in hair and clothes.
Did this with my son who had long hair.
You can also see if you have a local place to do her hair. Expensive but guaranteed.
Gonna have to cut it,get lice meds called NIX. any grocery store or pharmacy, then start combing and picking until all eggs are gone, and clean your entire house and everything. Been there done that…
Look to see if there is someone in your area that comes to your home and treats the child and the environment. My neighbor had trouble getting rid of it (her daughters have thick, long, curly hair) and a lady came to the house to treat. It was a process though…I think she came 2 or 3 times but they were finally rid of it!
So when my daughters school had an infestation, I ended up having to cut my daughter’s hair to her collar bone so I could finally get them under control. I had to do a live treatment, comb out her hair, wash everything in hot water. Kept her hair in a bun or braids at school. I also started putting tea tree oil on her hair. Nightly combs for two weeks. Then another lice treatment, comb out, wash everything again in hot water. Continue keeping her hair up.
RobiComb it’s an electric comb that kills the lice as you comb their hair.
You just have to go through her head individually without the comb, combs don’t grab everything
Honestly if it’s that bad you may have to cut it.
Then use olive oil or Mayo and wrap head in Saran Wrap for the night. Do this after a shampoo treatment
I throw bedding and pillows in dryer, I also steam or run clothes iron over furniture and bed, wash everything, douse her hair in mayo or conditioner to smother them, comb her hair like crazy, I hope you find something that works
Tea tree oil. Rub into the scalp, use enough to give hair the slick look. Keep it in for a while, it’s not toxic to us. Comb it out while oil is still in. The oil is good for the scalp too.
I had a pharmacist tell me to buy the Cetafil face wash. Put it in the hair, blow dry it until it’s pretty stiff, it won’t dry all the way. Then put a shower cap on it for at least 8 hours… I did this after months of my daughter getting it, getting rid of it until her next visit with her dad, and would come home with it again… She never got it again.
Something oily like Mayo or oil to coat the hair. Then, you have to get a lice comb and do every strand of hair, wiping them off as you go. I’d cut the hair short first, so there’s less to manage. There are salons that deal with this and can tell you how to proceed at home with clothes, bedding, etc. Don’t feel bad. Lice actually get on long CLEAN hair typically. People think it’s a dirty thing, and it’s not! MY daughter got it once from a girl sleeping over. Get a shampoo and conditioner with teatree oil once you get this taken care of and use it going forward, and there will be no more lice.
Oh yea u can also Saturate her hair in Mayonnaise put a bag or something over her hair 4 the night wash out and Comb thru in the morning they will all fall out!
I worked at a lice clinic!! Google if you have one! Sounds you have super lice which are hard to kill! They offer a treatment that you can do at home or come in the clinic and be lice free when you leave!
Take her to the lice clinic , it’s expensive but they guarantee you will leave life free
Rubbing Alcohol 70% or as high as you can find. Pour onto the scalp make sure not to get it in the eyes. Wrap hair up and cover with plastic bag for about 30 mins. Then remove bag and start going through hair getting out the dead ones. Let it stay in hair while you comb through and get out all eggs. Concentrate on closer to scalp while cleaning out but do check towards ends to make sure you have gotten everything. It does work just have to keep doing it every day for a few days at least. Remember an egg left behind can still hatch after awhile and you will have to start again
Put tea tree oil in her shampoo. Use it everytime. Helps with dandruff too
Oil and lice combs! And sit and pick and pick, plus clean EVERYTHING. Raid for beds and rugs, then do her hair in lice treatment. And if you want to be extra , straighten her hair! I hope this helps!!
Use a hair dryer on her hair after you wash it and comb through it. The heat from the hair dryer will kill anything left.
Box of hair dye. Dying the hair also help kill the and using ridx to shampoo it after is good. Patience is key, section off her hair to comb through little by little. Also consult hairdresser to see if they can help.
Use coca cola, pour it over the dry hair, let it dry and then rinse and comb!! Repeat if needed, it stops the nits and lice in their tracks!!!
Had a doctor tell us once to lather plain mayonnaise in her hair and put a shower cap over her hair. Have her sleep in it over night. Wash out the next morning.
My mom cut my hair in half and then did the over the counter treatment and it worked for me and i have thick hair
Use oil, actual kitchen vegetable oil and saran wrap in her hair overnight. Then comb through. It smothers them.
Haircut! Dry everything you possibly can. Find a local hair lice removal company to come in and hand pick them out of her hair
Ivermectin aka horse paste. you can get it from Tractor Supply. 1/3 paste mixed with 2/3 hair conditioner. Leave it on 10 minutes and rinse. Comb as usual. repeat in 10 days of needed. I didn’t need to.It was the only thing that worked for us. Medicine Dosages | True North Kressly Pediatrics | Warrington, PA
I bought bottles of listerine mouth wash. It breaks the exoskeleton on the lice. It’s cheap and it’s way less damaging. Also worked like a charm. Get a cap leave it in for a few hours. And leave her hair oily for a few days. Maybe try Cantu cream and braid it. That like clean clean hair. Leave it dirty. Don’t shampoo the listerine just rinse. Then buy live prevention shampoos.
Add some drops of tea tree oil to her shampoo. And wash her hair with it daily. Add some drops and mix with water on a spray bottle and spray the bed with it. It will eliminate the lice and keep it away. Also it’s not a chemical
Breath Momma! I had 3 girls with it, at the same time! MAYO!!! Regular mayonnaise and a shower cap!
I was like that in kindergarten and it took cutting and thinning my hair just below my shoulders and then redoing the treatmrnts
I did it all too, cleaning everything and what not. I googled “lice boutique near me” and paid to get rid of if. I also realized I had another child around who had it, which it why I couldn’t fully get rid of it either. So the other child and mine were treated, problem solved.
What I used on my kids (and was used on me as a kid) vasaline…I know it sounds weird but cover the hair and scalp in vasaline leave it for 2-3 hours (under a shower cap is what we did) wash out with blue dawn dish soap (this suffocates them when washing out they stick to vasaline when being washed out with the dawn.) and then when washing everything (also in the shampoo/conditioner bottle going forward) tea tree oil…just a few drops in the bottle – shampoo, laundry soap or a water/cleaning mixture. Spray everything with it, wash on high heat. The tea tree oil will keep them away I promise! I haven’t had an infestation since 2014 and that’s when we had to do this and have been putting a few drops in on every new shampoo/ conditioner we use. I wish you luck!!
Also they hate coconut, so wash her hair in coconut shampoo n
Do everything else you’ve done, over and over, and flat iron her hair every other day for two weeks. Do very small, thin sections at a time.
Dye her hair the same colour it is they wont take in coloured hair
We went to a lice treatment clinic. Small office setting. Was one city over from us. Was so worth it. Wish I would have done it sooner.
Dawn dish soap I’ve been told it works and the stuff from the drug store for lice you would probable need to use 3 if her hair is that long and thick
Make sure all bedding and stuffed animals, clothes, carpets literally everything are treated
Vinegar and Lard. Saturate the hair in lard, bag it, and leave it in for 8+ hours. The lard will suffocate any live lice. Sleep with it in, if need be.
The vinegar will help take care of the nits. It breaks down the ‘glue’ and hard outer shell.
Use dawn dish soap and tomato juice to wash the lard out of the hair, then rinse and soak with vinegar for 15 minutes.
Comb.
Make sure you treat and wash everyone’s clothing and bedding. Bag up anything you can’t and store away for a few weeks. Heat in a hot car will work, as well as freezing smaller items.
Cut her hair and make it manageable hair grows back
Drench her hair in extra virgin olive oil wrap it in a shower cap for an hour Flat iron or hot comb her hair then comb it out with the metal lice comb
Tea tree oil will kill them dead
I found a recipe online and mixed coconut oil with tea tree oil as well as tea tree oil shampoo
We used this twice a week with combing and we cleared them out!
Unfortunately you will have to cut her hair. Her hair is too long to manage the infestation.
Have you tried a Robie comb I think that’s how it’s spelled. It’s an electric comb that kills lice and nits
Rinse hair with apple cider vinegar every wash. Have you tried mayo on the hair over night under shower cap then rinse wash hair with Dawn rinse with acv after every wash
Salt on your carpet then vacuum maybe replace bed entirely wash clothes and such with ammonia or bleach it’s hard work but all above works with every foster baby that comes with it
Dr cam gibe shampoo that you do not have to comb it all out. Kills nits too! Called natroba. Then everything pillows stuffed animals rugs etc in dryer
The only thing that worked when my daughter picked it up and my whole house got it was mixing kerosene with tresemme shampoo it stinks but it works!! Just make sure it doesn’t get in her eyes. I had tried everythiggggg even throwing away beds/bedding and getting new ones, prescriptions, home remedies, over the counter, mayonnaise, and so much more and we battled it for months and months. Once we did that it won’t away!
Mayo, wrap Saran Wrap around her hair as tight as possible and sleep in it overnight, then comb and then wash. I would also suggest to maybe cut some of the hair off. Lice LOVE clean hair, and usually stay at the scalp so massage that Mayo in as thick and thoroughly as you can
cut her hair as short as you possibly can without it being shaved
Kind of wished you lived closer so I could help but I live in north county San Diego. I’ve helped friends, family and even neighbors with this issue. Best of luck to you.
Winter green rubbing alcohol. Drench her hair. Leave it on 10-15 minutes and then rinse it out and cover in tea tree oil. Leave that on for 10-15 minutes then wash and condition. Plus wash everything that is cloth in the home, don’t forget the curtains and the towels. and put stuffed animals in a black plastic bag and put them outside for 2 weeks. Throw out pillows and replace them. Boil all brushes, combs and hair accessories.
Well for me I died my 2 daughter’s hairs wrapped their head in a bag and they died I passed the comb and all that stuff and then straightened their hair with a straightener trying to get as close to the scalp as possible but my girls were like 7 n 9 at the time in our culture we have also drenched the hair in alcohol and vinegar n just b on top of it it’s a process but by far for my situation dying their hair with a strong hair dye worked.
Cut her hair to her shoulders…and go thru it every day til u find nothing for 7 days.
No matter what u put in their head u still have to comb it out til u get every last nit.
I tried everything literally after 2 years of repeat treatment I got tired of it and shaved my girls heads it will grow out and be beautiful but lice are no joke
Find a lice treatment center near you. Go there for everyone. It may be several hundred dollars but it is guaranteed. Bag up all blankets, sheets, towels that have been used etc go to laundry mat. Spray anything that can’t be washed . They’ll be gone immediately like this I promise.
We ended up with them in our house a couple years ago after my daughter gave bags out to them homeless and a lady hugged her. we did this and the nightmare was over immediately.
Permethrin, you can get it from your local livestock store. Just don’t get it in her eyes. It works great!
Call the school nurse and have her check the other kids in her classroom to send them home. I had this issue when my daughter was younger and I had to call the school because she would be lice free and soon as I would send her back to school, she would have more again.
I believe it will take more than 1 cycle through the wash/dryer to kill them… I’ve never dealt with it but my friends daughter had it last year… you really have to get every single thing between bedding and stuffed animals, in trash bags outside for a few days.
My daughter was the same way! I couldn’t get rid of them until I was left with my only option at the time, cut it
I took my daughter to a lice treatment center.
Nits die after 24/48 hours once off the hair I just use conditioner and metal nit comb and I havnt had a problem getting rid of them
Me and my sisters had lice for a whole year once and it kept coming back no matter how many over the counter medications we bought or were prescribed to us. We ended up using Mayonnaise! Slept with it in over night, combed it out and never got it again. We had very long hair as well.
Honest opinion! I’ve been through it with my daughter from age 3-7… it was the worst. We finally paid $120 to take to a professional live removal place & it never came back… it was the best $120 ever spent!! But then afterwards I threw out everything, garbage bags and washing obviously didn’t work… so I bought all new bed stuff, new stuffed animals.
Make sure hair is dry. Get an old tshirt and but the neckline around the head with the hair in the shirt, than get FOOD GRADE Diatomaceous Earth and sprinkle it all in the hair. (Til it’s pretty covered the tie the shirt up in a knot and leave it all day and over night. When you wash it, Sesame oil is great to soak the hair in to smother anything left and them come it out with those tiny combs. Flat iron the hair and possibly repeat treatment for another day and you should be good. Also sprinkle that Diatomaceous earth all over the house. Just make sure you have on a mask and anyone in the home until the dust clears. Try not to put too much though. It works well and you don’t need too much. My daughter use to be in public school and brought it home 5 times in one year, I did this and never again did they come back!
Yes I am in the same boat as you… my three year old daughter has hair past her butt I’ve used Nix. Rid. They prescribed cream for her hair seems to help every week I use it… also if you see a white dot use your nails to get them out
You’re gonna have to get rid of the comb and actually sit and pull every last egg out and squash them makes it easier if u cover their head in a sh!/t tonne of conditioner…once that’s done I suggest using a spray every day b4 school…couple of drops of tea tree oil mixed with couple of teaspoons of a good conditioner and a 2 cups of water and brush that through before tying her hair in a plait or bun… my cousin usually goes over her daughters hair with a straightening iron which helps to kill the any eggs that get missed
I had lice all the time in elementary I had my head soaked with mayonnaise then combed through with a incredibly fine comb to get all the eggs and bugs out. Sorry this is happening mama. There is an end
Olive oil and a shower cap!!! Nightly for a week - brush out each time. The every other night for another week.
The only thing that works for us was conditioner wag put the conditioner in the hair- as much as you can put a cap on it and leave for as long as you around 30min. Then lice comb it wiping as you go daily for a week. - put all your bedding clothing etc in the dryer, simply washing is not enough, need to dehydrate the little buggers!
Get Vamoose daily shampoo! My daughter who is 11 got it so bad when she wad in 2nd grade we did EVERYTHING spent so much on lice shampoo and treatments but we got that and the vamoose moose and washed and did everything we was suppose too and it worked we still use it daily and its helped so much.
1 way I’ve used is to Dye her hair.
2- clean EVERYTHING.
3- get some rosemary repel leave in conditioner and use it daily. My hairstylist recommended it and it works to repel them.
Sorry to say you may have to cut her hair off, I had an awful time trying to get rid of them and spent hundred of dollars
She could have the burrowing kind and in that case the only thing to fix it is to shave her head
Entire jar of mayonnaise, bag and leave on overnight. This was the only thing that worked on my sister and I. But wash and bag/heat everything possible in the house as well.
Put mayonnaise in hair. It will suffocate the bugs and loosen up the boys.
Fairytale shampoo.
