I'm living a lice nightmare, help!

I have three kids which are now grown. My middle child had black thick hair and was the only one that ever seemed to get it! Use Nix leave it on a while! Then daily spray her hair with vinegar water. She’s picking this up somewhere! Did u buy new brushes? It seems like every year when our fair comes in September is when it’s mostly contracted .I will never forget my mother putting bug spray on my head as a child but it worked!

I had the same issue a few years back with my daughter. I got an electronic comb and did it morning and night it worked!

Use results on both of youe hair cuz if she has it badly. You might as well too. And give her hair a cut. That’s what I had to do to get it under control

If you haven’t tried tea tree oil try that a lot of jails will coat and inmates hair and mayonnaise and wrap it and let it sit and wash it out.

Bottle of vinegar in her hair to soak over night, then comb out the next day x

As a child my mom cut my hair off. Now I know why … I’m sorry love but cut her hair and continue the treatment

I know a lot say cut her hair but I’m pretty sure hair stylist aren’t suppose to work on hair with head lice. Plus lice can live on 1/4 inch.

Me and my younger sister had hair down to our butts when we were younger and frequented the lice issue. I sympathize with you. This is the best thing we found for us and believe me when I say my mom tried everything.

We would put mayo in our hair and cover with a plastic bag and sleep in it. All bedding was washed and if possible bleached. All clothes in dresser and closet rewashed. All stuffed animals were bagged in trash bags for a week and then washed. All carpets and couches and mattress were sprayed twice a day with lice spray.

The next morning we would wash our hair and comb through with tee treat oil. and everything in the house was resprayed with the lice spray. For The next week we would wear our hair braided with pink sheen spray in it and we would repeat the process after a week to kill any nits and babies that hatched.

It’s a pain and a massive undertaking but it worked better than the lice treatment’s sold in the store and safer honestly. I had terrible reactions to the store bought shampoo.

Babyoil in the hair smothers the adults and makes combing the eggs out easier… Dry everything you could possibly dry with high heat… Stuffed animals, pillows etc… Spray and wipe down furniture with combo of tea tree oil and peppermint oil( couch, mattresses, etc)… Add to shampoo and conditioner too

Olive oil, saturate her hair, put a shower cap on and make her sleep with it. It sucks, it itches, but it suffocates them. My mom did this with me and my sisters. She also cut our hair. I mean it sucked to cut it but it helped

Use a clear hair dye on her hair!

It sucks. But you probably have to cut it. That and yea tree oil worked for us with the doc prescribed stuff, and doing it too much makes them immune soooooo yea. Follow the instructions

You’re more than likely going to have to cut it to above her shoulders. I had a friend who’s daughter had lice for years and she had long hair and she cut it and treated it and everything in the house again after the cut and it’s been 6 months since she’s had lice. Unfortunately sometimes you have to make that sacrifice for the end result

Be careful with dog treatments as they may be toxic to children. Consult your local health dept

Lice free dry hair soak in cooking oil comb through all slides out thick hair part and comb in sections i got 3 daughters long thick hair as well

Conditioner on hair! Coat well and put on shower cap. 20-30 minutes rinse, comb out lice. Repeat again. Works well.

After control, put hair up and hairspray it. Repeatedly for the next few weeks

Go to lice clinics of America in Temecula its the best place in the world my daughters lice was gone that day

My daughter had waist length hair and after being at her dad’s she came hone with it. Every freaking weeks she’d come home with it. Luckily the boys never got it. I would complain and complain but he never did anything about it. Finally I did some investagating and found out that the babysitter he was leaving them with had 12 kids in a small bedroom trailer and all the kids coats hats and gloves were piled on top of her portable dishwasher. I reported her and him to cps and my attorney. Needless to say, she never got headline again.

skin so soft bath oil put on and comb through then leave in hair it loses oily feeling but still looks it but can cover with shower cap if you like . i comb several times ove still using oil just few hours or so apart

Pillows you don’t use regularly and stuffed animals put in a trash bag for 10 days. Pillows you use daily put in the dryer on a hot setting. Vacuum mattresses, carpets and furniture daily. Treat your car seats if they are fabric. T-tree oil/shampoo and conditioner. Lice hate the stuff. Hope this helps

Go to Ulta and get the terminator comb… then mix tea tree oil with water… my daughter went to a lice place and had it treated but still had it so it did this and it worked… I even did my hair… it works…

Shampoo with tea tree oil worked for my granddaughter

Flat iron her hair, slow and as close to the roots as possible

Cut her hair shoulder length then keep going back through it. Make sure you spray her bed and couch’s and wash anything that’s fabric (that includes stuffed animal). Have you put cooking oil in her hair and had her sleep with it in overnight? Have you treated everyone else in the home?

Make sure you’re also washing all bedding, furniture and toy plushies in hot water. Eggs will still fester in all those places and keep coming back.

Try soaking her hair in the gold colored listerine mouthwash, wrap it up, leave it sit for at least an hour, wash out and comb through. I had long thick curly hair when my son gave them to me and it worked

Bleach her hair. Or dye it her natural color. It’ll kill the lice

Cut her hair. It’s the only thing that worked and made it more manageable

Tea tree everyday they had it, also tea shampoo and conditioner comb them out x

Honnestly … dye her hair we were in the same boat with my Daughter and we even went to a professional lice company for treatment … the only thing that finaly worked is dying her hair …we matched close as we could to her natural color and we have not had a single issue since … its drastic but it’s better than having to treat her hair every day when tbey have thick long hair . Hope it helps

I always blow dry my kids hair the heat kills em

Is there any other place she spends a larger amount of time at? Grandparents, friends? Could the infestation be coming from another house and just continued transferring between. You are taking all the right steps that would get rid of it so my assumption is that you are not the direct location of the lice!

What I did was wash everything everyday, haha everything my kids baths everyday and scrubbed their heads, also left the conditioner on a lil longer, then fine comb their hairs. Did that everyday for a month, was easy n then after that I used a heat resistant spray and helped keep the buggers away after that

Sorry to say but you may have to cut it… I had to do that to my daughter that had her hair to her butt too… if your doing all the laundry… bagging up all teddy bears and toys that are soft vacuum the bed too and all the rugs daily… the problem with lice is of you leave one your screwed… it’s literally a daily process until you don’t see any

You have to pick every egg outta her head and fine comb it for the bugs… Wash EVERYTHING

Trash bag everything and if you have a lice crew buisness near you call them. My niece was so bad and the lice crew here was the only thing that helped their pros!!!
Was everything on hit vaccum again and clean well have her done by a lice crew and buy their shampoo and sprays… they will pull everything out. if not unfortunately cutting her hair may be the only option thankfully hair grows back

Mayonnaise overnight and it kills the head lice put shower cap overnight any mayonnaise should do

Do you have chickens? I would constantly have lice as a child. My mom would treat me and I’d get it again. I was loving on my nannys chickens and we had to treat me and chickens.
Also go to a feed store and get Martin’s permethrin 10%. It’ll kill them

Spinosad- by prescription. And I had to beg my ex to not send her to the babysitter he had been using when she was with him. 2 years since I had to deal with it, I don’t miss it.

Washing with TEA tree helps too… just put some in your shampoo and wash it daily….

I had hair like that once and had gotten lice, my mom sprayed the strongest mouthwash she could find and put my hair up on a grocery bag to keep the heat in, I ended up having to cut all my hair off tho because it got so bad.

Cut her hair into a cute pixie cut for right now. That way treating her hair is easier. Add Listerine to her shampoo and conditioner sounds stupid I know but works great at keeping lice out.

Ask for permethrin cream used for scabies. She could have super lice. I’m a pharmacy tech and I’ve seen this as a last ditch effort. I’ve also seen parents cut their kids hair short to help manage it if it persists. Good luck.

Had the same.problem soak her head in vinager fr 30/min and the comb threw with fabric softner with a fine tooth comb metal one that’s all.I did I have four girls it was a mess till I did this

We had this same issue the entire year last school year!! Don’t forget to spray her backpack and jackets, any pillows or anything in play areas, car seat or anything else random that you might have missed

Tea tree oil shampoo! Keep using it yesr round.
Her hair might need to be cut

In a mixing bowl or pour bottle, Mix White Vinegar & Dishwashing liquid with warm water. Soak the hair with it, Paper bag or Cling wrap 30mins to an 1hr (depending on the hair etc), Use lice comb, and finish with a wash. Old school but it works. White Vinegar suffocates them, Dishwashing liquid makes it hard for them move and jump. Repeat once to twice a week if needed.
Lice Treatment doesn’t work for my Daughter.
Hope this helps :crossed_fingers:

tea tree oil in yalls regular shampoo I heard will help

Whatever you do, please do not put a plastic bag on your child’s head for sleeping. It is very dangerous.

Half vodka, half alcohol. Comb through hair with lice comb.
Be careful, it’s flammable
I guarantee it will work

I hate to say it but check your head too you could unknowingly be giving it back to her. You also need to find the source whoever’s gave it to her could also be giving it back to her

It sounds like she keeps getting it back from somewhere. It’s nearly impossible to rid it all out the house. If her hair is that long cut it to a decent length so it’s easier to comb through. The treatments plus rx would have taken care of it all so I’m thinking it’s getting back in her hair from somewhere

My mom always used Mayo and it worked. Just leave it in your hair overnight and wash it out in the morning

Try vinegar and placing a bag over her hair for an hour wash hair with laundry powdered soap after it works!!

Soak her hair in oil (vegetable, canola, etc) then place a plastic bag over the hair. Leave on as long as possible. The oil will drown them and her hair will look fabulous. It may take several times of doing this but it absolutely works

When shes asleep get wvery nit out and then use tee tree oil on her hair and a tiny bit on her skin then keep washing and vacuuming

The best way I have learned to kill live is to drench your hair in olive oil before you go to sleep and sleep with a bag over your hair. It is uncomfortable but works and it won’t cry or damage your hair. You have to clean, bleach, Lysol, and repeat over and over. do that for a week and I bet it will work but good luck to you. Live are terrible to deal with.

If you don’t want to lose length I’d think of maybe thinning it out easy enough to do your self but with length I feel your pain … I have 6 girls and my eldest hair is long thick and wavy and I sit four hours a time when I apply the lotion as well as just co bing through the week every day between treatments is 2 hours spent … it’s so hard but if you just apply the lotion and keep combing they will go … I make a lice spray with mouth wash and water they hate peppermint and not as often they have lice … I also check everyday after school nursery but that’s just my routine so soon as I see any I lotion there and then and do all 6 even if they have none … I also wash their hair in mouthwash after I’ve shampooed xx

Well what I did was get the Rx shampoo from the doctor wash all sheets and all stuffed animals and dry high heat and spray the bed and anything that can’t get washed with tinactin

Use coconut oil and drench her hair in it. The nits come right off and the bugs can’t grip the hair. Add tea tree oil to it! Works every time! My sons have thick red curls and this is the only thing that worked for us!

Had the same issue, so bad they closed the day care. Within a week of opening, they came home with them again, despite morning “inspections” on all kids. It went on for about 2 months. I was a crazy person, and even the prescription I was given didn’t work. I tried the oil (cooking oil) on the head in a cap overnight works because it suffocates them, but you still have to continue to remove the nits, as they can hatch. A nightmare for my 7 year old daughter with very long hair. After that, I suggest you look at some oil remedies (I can’t remember the exact ratios), but mixtures of Tea Tree oil, Lavender, etc. put directly into the shampoo bottles, conditioner bottles, hair detangler, etc. are a great deterrent. After dealing with the issue a couple of times a year for about 3 years (the last being the worst), I started using the oils in all of their products and never had an issue again, no matter how many notifications I got from the school or daycare.

Covid may have changed this game a little bit, but I also know that there are people/companies that will actually provide lice treatment. If you think you just aren’t getting those nits out (it’s a seemingly impossible task), they will take that on for you. Like a special hair salon service.

Walmart sells a lice repellent shampoo for kids.
My son and I lived in a low income city for awhile and he had one friend that ALWAYS had lice(came from a family with 4 kids and 2 adults and I don’t think they treated everyone in the household or cleaned the house properly) and I was going thru the treatments every few days. Then i found this repellent shampoo and it works amazingly. Did one more treatment(and scrubbed EVERYTHING) then started using the shampoo daily and it worked GREAT! No more lice!

Sounds wrong, but I used to spray my kids hair with flyspray and leave In for half hour, before washing it with shampoo and conditioner. Worked a treat. I was over the lice too. Also speak to teacher about it and make sure they hand out letter to all parents to make sure other children are having their hair treated too

Mayo in her hair over night. My mom did to my sister when we were little when we had it

Mayo with a hair net over night! Comb out in the morning. Keep the hair greasy for days after with coconut oil they should never be able to reattach!

My daughter had it for what seemed like years, we tried everything. We ended up having to go to Arkansas and their water cleaned it right up, haven’t seen it again.

Nothing worked for me when I was a kid except when I started blow drying my hair every day. Washed everything in hot dried HOT HOT and then washed my hair daily and blow dried the hell out of it.

My cousin had them bad and wouldn’t brush her hair at all. They had to cut her hair short short…

I dyed my daughter’s hair she has really thick hair as well. I also use tea tree oil everyday.

Im not sure if you have use white vinegar but when i was in middle school my mom drenched my hair in that and i know mint shampoo can help kill lice…

Go to Walmart get the lice kit and they sell sprays to spray your beds pillows carpets. Then buy tea tree oil and use it daily on her hair. Lice don’t like the it

Coconut oil, works wonders I had my daughter cleared up in about a week.

Trim her hair. It makes combing so much easier!! Even if it looks bad, you can get it professionally fixed later.

You have to treat all members of the house as well, the cars, the couches.
When I was a child the outbreak was so bad my mom had to chop my thick long hair off.
I hope you don’t have to, but it’s always an option. Hair grows back.

When that happened to us, my daughter had hair like your daughter’s. I cut it. I cried the whole time. Then I packed mayonnaise in her hair, wrapped it up with a plastic shower cap and Bobby pins. I had her sleep in that mess. The following day I rinsed it out really well, did the lice comb again, then put straight tea tree oil in her hair (avoid the scalp directly, it may burn) and wrapped her up in a bandana for the day. I added a 15ml bottle of pure tea tree oil to her shampoo and conditioner and had her wash once in the morning and once at night. After washing we used tons of hair product like mousse, hairspray, leave in conditioner, anything we could think of because lice hate dirty hair and it begins to suffocate them. I bought a set of super cheap sheets for her to sleep on during this process and I bagged up every single plushy, sheet set, anything not a solid material into black contractor bags and sat the sealed bags out in the sun as much as possible for a week before bringing it all in and cleaning it or putting g it in the washing machine. By then, the lice were gone from her hair and she got her nice clean stuff back. During school, I still have them add tea tree oil to their shampoo and conditioner as a preventative measure. Good luck!

We went through that last year. It was a literal nightmare. No matter what we did we had them all school year. We’d get rid of them for a couple weeks then they come right back. We had to keep things washed or put it in the dryer to kill them. vacuum and keep it dumped. Brush brush brush. We did it in the tub naked because they were just falling out.

We cut everyone hair. Treated the whole house. Get shampoo for super lice

Make sure to clean an clothes material in your vehicle as well

U can try Avon’s. Skin so soft. Spray her hair good put some in her bath water. Do no was out of hair for couple days. When she takes bath n washes hair good. Tightly French braid her hair 1 braid each side spray again. If it’s at school I’d keep her hair tightly braided n try n keep sss at her scalp. It’s an oil it suffocates them. Also helps hair n scalp

Make sure you’re spraying / cleaning the car seat where she sits

I found a system that worked super good for me and if my daughter ever gets it again I won’t even turn to lice treatment I’ll just do this!

Years ago I had custody of my exe’s niece and she constantly got them from her family. What worked amazingly for me was after combing through and picking out any live lice and nits, I’d lather her and my daughter’s hair in coconut oil and wrap it in plastic wrap, I did this overnight every night! Then I’d check their hair in the morning and usually there’d be nothing but I would still do the coconut lather overnight several nights just to be sure! I also put tea tree oil in a spray bottle with base oil and water and sprayed all over the house, and don’t forget the car seats, backpacks, etc!! And of course bed washing. I put tea tree oil drops in the shampoo, too. I vacuumed 2-3 times a day. I also sprayed the lice stuff for furniture all over. All that got rid of them very quickly, a lice infestation would be gone in a few days but I would keep that stuff up for like 5 days just to make sure!! Finally I learned to prevent lice from being in our home by checking my niece’s hair every time she came back from her family’s… I’d get any live lice out, do the coconut oil wrap overnight, and immediately washed and/or dried any clothes she had on and with her when she got back. I have long super curly hair and never got lice from her because during this I’d coconut oil my own hair and put it in a bun as a precaution.

If your daughter is getting it from school/ someone else I’d suggest cutting her hair shorter, or if that’s not an option, use tea tree oil in her hair and try to style her hair in braids or space buns etc so her hair isn’t just hanging loose. You can also spray her backpack and such with tea tree oil before school, and when she got home you could spray it with lice spray and bag it up and put it somewhere away from everything in the house. You could also have her change when she gets home and bag her clothes up or wash them immediately with whatever laundry you’re washing that day. If you haven’t already, vacuum your car and spray it as well, you can spray it before and after school or however much you need to. I hope this helps!

Tea tree oil in the shampoo and conditioner. Completely bomb the house, make sure all food is completely covered. All plants are outside, as well as pets ( wash pets w/flea & tick shampoo). Wash all clothing and linens in hot water and dry completely in a dryer. Vacuum all furniture w/bagless vacuum, along with all floors, especially along the walls. Use vinegar to wash all counters/tables/etc. Throw away all hair brushes and buy new, leave all hair ties out while house is bombed. Take all stuffed animals and bag them up , so no holes for airflow for at least 3 months. Treat your daughter’s and EVERYONE in the house with medicated lice shampoo, use apple cider vinegar rinse afterwards to help break the glue from the nits to comb through EVERYONE’S hair. Then use T gel (walmart brand works just as well) lice hate it and it really doesn’t take too much per washing. You will have to bomb your house at least twice and that includes washing all the clothing again and wiping down w/vinegar. Treat your car and hate to say it look at where/who comes into your house or she goes. After you get rid of the infestation just keep tea tree oil in the shampoo & conditioner and you should be okay.

I would cut her hair pretty short and keep trying

Please hear me out this saved us more than once. I promise it works.

Soak hair in apple cider vinegar with “the mother”

LET THE HAIR DRY from the vinegar. Do not rinse.

Then coconut oil - imagine saturating every strand of hair.

While the oil sits go in the living room bag up every blanket pillow anything, tie it in a large garbage bag and put to the side then do the same with everything in her room or wherever she has been. The last step is very important

And then all you do is take a lice comb after two hours of coconut oil and brush it out slowly but EACH STRAND! It takes the nits the babies and the adults out. Shake the comb in bath each time so you can be sure they are out…then drain the tub and so it over and over.

Might not wanna hear this but cut all her hair off … Thin her hair our …or you can dye it what ever in hair dye does kill head lice good luck

Oil. Wash her hair in vegetable oil

Well I would say if nothing helping then u gonna have to shave her hair completely off and Everytime I send her to school put a ponytail and a braid

Crisco. Drench her hair in crisco, cover with plastic wrap for 24 hours and comb it out after. Make sure bedding is washed.

Rub aboniki balm in her hair , cover her hair and leave it till the next day. Do it like 3times , u won’t see anything again

The best way I know is to use an over the counter hair dye.

Lavender shampoo works as they hate the smell, put it in and wrap with clip wrap leave overnight or min 1 hour , as they love clean hair I always did hairspay up in a ponytail or plait it works best of luck hope you find something in the comments that help you both

If nothing is working u will prob have to cut her hair some. I had this when I was little, and I had thick, long Mexican hair. And a lot of it! Unfortunately my mom had to cut it to my shoulders, and my sisters, and my boy cousins all went bald. Because we allllll had lice because we all played together. And it spread.

There’s stuff called lice ice and it’s awesome. Also get an electronic license comb that zaps the eggs and any lice.

Don’t forget to treat the car as well! A lot of parents don’t think about the car.

I have seen so many videos of clinic actually treating infestation of lice on tiktok…… you might have a clinic near your area. Good luck

Comb the hair every single day until you dont get any out anymore, be consistent

I had the same at age 8 and sorry to say but my mum cut it all off and it worked x

I had this same problem with my daughter. Battled it for 8 months, found out someone living with her father had it the whole time and didn’t know it. But my advice would be to deeply investigate people she’s close with to find the source or get some hair dye. Hair dye kills them the best. My daughters hair was well past her butt and really thick. I didn’t resort in cutting it off. I went through her head piece by piece 3 times a day. Sprayed it down with vinegar and taped grocery bags on her head to hold the fumes in.

Make you cover her head with a plastic bag after the solution medication. That helped when my daughter would come home from Texas with lice, not fun.

Something that worked for me when I had it was mayonnaise…lather it in her hair and put like a shower cap or something over her hair so it doesn’t get anywhere and leave it in overnight and then rinse with a lice free shampoo. Or just do the mayonnaise treatment as needed and wash normally
