My 7-Year-Old Refuses to Wear Underwear and Screams if I Make Her Try: Advice?

Don’t make her wear them

Ok lol. Is it really necessary to wear panties? Let her be free, put pants on her with no panties? I hate underwear and rarely wear them(unless I’m in a dress)
And or maybe buy her boxer brief girl underwear. There more shorts like she may like them.

:grimacing::grimacing: I go commando, they are just sooooo uncomfortable! I’ve tried all kinds and I just can’t do it…

Too small maybe? Different style? Boys?

Yes my grands like the underwear like boys briefs

I’d recommend boyshorts or you know those shorts that cheer gymnast or dance wear ( they were called spankies when I was in school) those fit just like shorts

Just buy boys boxer briefs. Thsts what I would do.

I get wearing them for dresses. But other then that I’d leave it up to her. The bigger the deal you make of it, the bigger the stick shes going to make.
More times then not I don’t wear them eather, and ive always been like that.

I’d try boy shorts if she doesn’t like the way panties feel. There are a lot of grown women who don’t like panties but will wear boxers or even go with none.

My 5 year old boy really is uncomfortable with underwear, socks, and many pairs of shorts. He gets extremely frustrated if I have him try to put on socks (usually for sports) or undies. I would try to find some seamless undies that are like shorts maybe? Maybe actual boys underwear? Good luck mama

Get her boy short undies or boxers. Best of luck :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Possible sensory issue my youngest daughter is the exact same with certain pants or shirts

Maybe try buying her boyshorts underwear. Or boys boxer briefs…

I asked my husband the other day why do we have to wear underwear. :joy::joy::woman_shrugging:t3: I’m over it, so I get the kids point of view! :see_no_evil:

Try to find some seamless undies

My youngest despises underwear. I found some boxer brief style ones that are a soft material and more loosely fitted. He says they feel more like shorts and doesn’t give me much issue over them.

could it be the fabric ? some people are sensitive to fabric types they can wear in that area.

Try boy underwear. That’s what I did for my daughter. They were more comfortable.

I’ve actually had an OB GYN tell me there is no reason for underwear and it is actually better for you not to wear them…sooooo :woman_shrugging: She could wear spanks/shorts when she wears a dress, but really wearing underwear is kind of old school anymore.

Take her with you and let her pick her own pants, maybe some with her favourite characters on? Or a style she likes x

So let her go without panties. She’s still got pants or shorts on. Some woman go commando all the time

Try different styles! I wear little boys sizes boxer briefs or spandex boy short underwear because regular underwear drive me insane. Take her to Walmart and let her pick a few different kinds. My second daughter went thru a phase where she would only wear boys boxers because regular panties drove her crazy too.

They actually sell boy shorts for girls. They’re kind of like pajama shorts

Have you tried asking her why she doesn’t wanna wear them? Take her to the store and see if letting her pick her own undies out helps. If not, try girls seamless undies or boys boxer briefs. If that still doesn’t work (I don’t know exactly what they’re called) try the cheerleading shorts or boyshort undies. It may be the seams in the undies that bother her. My personal opinion, if you can’t find a solution, don’t worry about it. Unless she is wearing loose fitting shorts, a skirt or a dress where someone could see her private parts if she moves a certain way, pick your battles with kids.

Maybe try boy’s boxer briefs? Like the soft satin-y ones. Might just be the shape and fabric of girl underwear she doesn’t like

Buy boxers for her :woman_shrugging:t4:

If the kid will wear shorts buy her some boys boxer briefs… she will think they are shorts and something will cover her booty.

when I was a child my parents had the same issue with me. I didnt like underwear or anything that was tight and touched me. I was molested when I was little, so after that I really would fight parents about wearing them but even before, I remember arguing with my mom because I didnt like wearing anything that touched me. it made me uncomfortable. I’d talk to your daughter and try to figure out why shes so against it, I dont mean to put these kinds of thoughts in your head, but you never know. she could just simply find them uncomfortable, and if that’s the case, there are different cuts and styles you can try until she finds something she feels more comfortable with. I personally dont see an issue with a child not wanting to wear undies so long as they’re potty trained and aren’t wearing a dress or skirt, but that’s just me. hopefully nothing is going on with your daughter and she simply just doesnt like underwear, but if I was you I would definitely try to talk to her and get an understanding of what is going on in her head.

Can you try the boyshort underwear? They look like little shorts.

Let her wear thr shorts

Buy her men’s underwear boxer shorts

Get her some boys boxer briefs, see if those are comfortable.

Find her comfortable ones like boy shorts and and stuff they more comfy

What about the one that look like shorts :shorts: but they are actually underwear :+1:t2: you can find nice colors in them and you can shop online for them too :+1:t2:

find her boy shorts for kids to wear its girls underwear but they fit better. she at the age to know what kind she likes. or take her shopping for underwear. she probably dont like what you get her.

Do boyshort style girls underwear…no snuggies or irritation. Perfect for my 7 yo daughter that also hates underwear

Get her boy short underwear. It’s the seams on the underwear I hate wearing anything other then boy shorts cuz they don’t cut into me. Take her underwear shopping let her chose.

First, make sure that they aren’t too small. They could be hurting her thighs if they’re tight. Try Boy Shorts or plain colored boy undies.
Also, does she have sensory issues where this could be related any type of issue?

Get a seamstress to make her pj shorts for wearing everyday , help her pick out the material or patterns she likes ! Pick your battles mom ! :two_hearts: she’s only 7 :two_hearts:

Get her some boy legs, I’m pretty sure that’s what they’re called, she might like those.

Teach her how to wash her clothes as well as what kind of clothes at least need shorts under them (dresses) and let her do her thing. Also find out if maybe she’d wear boxers instead. But I wouldn’t push it or get stressed out about it.

My daughter is 4 and is the same way. I don’t fight it anymore. She wears leggings and bicycle shorts under dresses :woman_shrugging:t3: it just wasn’t worth the fight.

Sensory issues. Maybe get her bigger underwear like the next size up, have a little talk with her. Let her know that it’s okay to wear shorts at home. Use rewards like stickers try distract her when they are on until she forgets shes wearing them …

I always wore shorts under my dresses up until recently. I felt too exposed with just underwear. On the flip side of that coin, I didn’t really care for underwear and would go commando if wearing pants. Bikini style underwear still bothers be, as well as lacy underwear. Try a different type of fabric or style. Also I would buy shorts specifically to wear under dresses.

They have girl “shorts” underwear at walmart! Maybe those will work better for her

She may have some sort of sensory issue. The tags may be bothering her or maybe the elastic. Target has some tag free and soft underwear also my girls seem to like the hipster kind. Maybe she needs a bigger size always listen to what your children’s say.

I don’t like underwear either, lol and would throw a fit also if someone forced me to wear them. Think of wearing socks to sleep, alot of people cannot stand it. As long as she’s changing her pants or shorts everyday I don’t see the issue

my 6 yr old girl loves her brother’s jocks the trunk style so basically shorts

Have you tried the boy shorts for girls??? Those may be a little more comfortable on her.

Get her some boys underwear. They make boxer briefs and they are comfy. Don’t argue with her. It’s not hurting anything…if they are uncomfortable then why make her wear them? She’s wearing shorts under them…buy her more shorts.

I don’t wear them. I’m 36 years old. Hate them. When I wear dresses, I will wear boy shorts.

Buy her boxer briefs for kids

Will she try boyshort type underwear ? Or biker shorts / cutoff leggings

Buy her boxer briefs for kids

Try boy short style underwear but honestly I don’t think it’s a big deal. But her some more of those shorts for under dresses and stuff but I don’t think it’s worth the fight. No one will even know

Buy her boxer briefs for kids

About the age where my mother gave up and started buying my boy underwear cuz I hated the way girl undies fit in comparison. My 8yo prefers boy shorts cut to regular undies now.

Maybe take her shopping for ones she “prefers” :woman_shrugging:t3:

Vintage Momma here. Buy her boys boxers. I don’t know why they don’t make them for little girls.

Sounds like a sensory thing. Boys boxers would probably suit her better as they’ll be similar to the shorts she’s preferring

It could be a sensory issue, ocd, anxiety, really anything. Or just them being uncomfortable. My 4 year old doesn’t always want to wear underwear and I don’t make her. Why should it matter? They’re covered by other clothes.

Im sorry but im 39 and quit underwear at 31 yrs. I wear boyshorts if i have to but normally dont wear anything. My V health is tremendous better. Evey gyno agrees. If its hot your girl parts need to breathe. Even my son don’t like tight fitting underwear. It helps to let high moisture areas get whatever they need

I absolutely love boy short style undies. Wayne more comfy. Just listen to her needs. If they aren’t comfy dont make her wear that style.

I don’t like wearing underwear maybe see if you can find her some boy short style things to wear under skirts that’s what i do. Like 5 to 8 inch boxes style.

My sons the same, I make him wear them cuz his pants won’t stay up, some days he sneaks by without them but i don’t make a deal out of it.

Neither of my girls want to wear it, only wear it when it’s a special occasion. I gave up, wasn’t worth the fight for me :woman_shrugging:t2:

Get her some boys boxer briefs they’re tight enough no one will notice but will also provide coverage

I also don’t wear underwear, because they are just uncomfortable.

That’s all.

Could it be a sensory thing…My Niece goes mad over socks and them being itchy…She only wears plain ones

Sensory issue. My son wont wear them either. Only time I have a problem woth this is when he wears jeans with zippers since then it rubs his penis raw. Other then that why not just buy her shorts to wear under? No sure why she “HAS” to wear underwear

Yoga shorts. Fitted. Comfortable. Covers her parts and then some.

My granddaughter did this we bought boy short underwear and also Nike shorts has the lining in them

Have you tried boy shorts yet they are underwear but they are like shorts like kind of like boxers and they might be a little more comfortable they’re fitted so they won’t bunch up … Just thinking if she’s wearing shorts under her clothes this would be more comfortable for her

This might sound silly but why not try down boys boxer briefs? They can fit under girls clothing and they are just like comfy shorts :woman_shrugging:t3:

I hate underwear too
Completely understand her

Why? Why is it so important she wear underwear? Pick your battles. It is not hurting her wearing underwear. She has drawn line in sand saying “this is important to me I make this choice”.
Talk to her about it. Find out why it’s important to her and maybe let her have this for a bit and then readdress it later in a month or so if it’s that important to You.

I don’t wear underwear, several have mentioned but studies have shown that underwear can hold in heat and moisture and cause more issues.

Change fabric, change style. Ask her specifically, like elastic waistband or maybe it’s pulling tight around her legs or whatever. That will help you find the right fit and fabric for her. I have 3 children and myself who have sensory processing disorders so this is something I deal with daily at my house.

Try some boy cut underwear. It could be the elastic that goes around her groan area that hurts her.

Get her boys boxer briefs. She’ll probably be a lot happier and more comfortable. And then you won’t have to fight her about it.

Try the kids biking shorts, the little short legging things. They might help some. That or try boys underwear.
Just let her wear leggings without underwear on.
Shes right tbh, undies are very uncomfortable.

Do you think maybe she has gotten an infection from them before and thats what she means by uncomfortable? Maybe ask her in what ways they are uncomfortable

Following because my 3 yr old is the same way. Except she doesn’t want to wear pants either so it’s definitely a major problem in our house. Her siblings can’t stand her naked butt out all the tome but every time we turn around she takes her bottoms off.

My niece wears boy undies… Boxer briefs!! It was a fight til my mom bought my son Mario ones and she started to wear them!!

Could always let her pick them out might make a difference

Definitely boxers. You can get girls ones too.

Could be a sensory issue for sure. Maybe try boxers or boxer briefs?

Buy the boy short panties.

Take her to the shops and ask her what kind of undies she would be happy wearing. Maybe she would be more comfortable in boys underwear

Try womens boxer briefs

Would she wear the little booty shorts instead of knickers? Or pure cotton boyleg style undies? She might get irritated by some fabrics and its making her uncomfortable

Boy shorts kind or my aunt uses actual boys briefs for her girl who does the same thing as yours

My daughter was the same way. She also was picky about foods. Hair brushing, socks, etc.
I took her to endless drs. Before someone suggested I read “The out of sync child” and boom, there was my answer. We saw a specialist and she was diagnosed with Sensory Integration disfunction.
She did years of Occupational therapy and is now 18 and thankfully wears underwear!

Try the boy-shorts underwear. Target makes some that are so soft! They’re the only ones my kids will wear. They will be in “boy” prints but maybe you can find some solid colors?

Could be sensory issues- look into Hanna Anderson. I know they are sort of expensive but they are super soft and very comfortable

I didn’t wear underwear when I was younger and my mom still doesn’t wear underwear. I do now but it was super uncomfortable. No matter what kind my mom bought, it rubbed up against me and I didn’t like it. Maybe try boxers or briefs. Are her pants tight on her? That could be contributing too. I could never wear restricting clothing when I was young. Everything had to be loose fitting for me.
I wear underwear nowadays but as soon as I get home they come off. I still hate the feeling and am constantly adjusting them through my pants.

Try getting her boy short underwear. They are more like shorts so she way like them better

I refused to wear underwear until I was 8 or 9. It was the thin elastic band and the tags on it that I didn’t like. You could bring her with you to the store and have her pick out some boy short underwear.
I was also kind of scared into wearing underwear too my moms friend said she didn’t wear underwear as a kid and she got a lot of infections due to it

You can get girl boxer shorts or if they no good try boys cotton boxer shorts.

I as a grown woman prefer boxer shorts so I get it. Also maybe see if she has a uti. Could be

My now 10 year old son hates underwear. Hasn’t worn them since he was 5. I dont like it but I am not going to fight him . Pick and chose your battles mama. Just make sure shes wearing appropriate clothes and leave it at that.

I would definitely try the boy shorts. Especially if she’s wearing shorts in place of underwear. The edges right in the crease where normal underwear goes may be annoying her, or chafing her. I myself have hidrnaitis surpativa (I get cysts along my groin) and when I have a flare up I have to go to boy shorts or no underwear because it rubs wrong. And it honestly could be a sensory issue. But I would definitely try boy shorts.

I have to tell my husband to wear underwear or he won’t :joy:. I on the other hand always wear underwear. Maybe find a comfy brand? Like boy shorts undies.
