My daughter has been complaining of stomach pain and I am at a loss: Advice?

It honestly could be her wanting attention even though she has it all but listen to your mommy instincts. If you dont think it’s that and think something is wrong, get a second opinion

Happened to me as a kid turns out I had a hiatal hernia and bad reflux due to a lazy flap. Children’s hospital gastric doc caught is in a barium swallow test.

Pediatric gastroenterologist

Dont do motrin. NSAIDS tear up your intestine wall…

I sound get your pediatrician to refer her to a pediatric GI. While, I doubt it is this, but I have Crohn’s disease and when it hurts it takes everything in me to walk. While she could be being dramatic it’s better to be safe than sorry.

It sounds like anxiety to me.
Kids dont know how to say it except that their tummy hurts

What is going on at school? Is she being bullied? My son had bad stomach pains due to anxiety at school from a horrible teacher and an even worse principal! But the most important thing…, follow your Mommy instinct… if it tells you something is wrong then find another doctor

My son’s abd pain ended up being lower lobe pnuemonia. Unfortunately only found in an ER visit with complete GI work up. Last thing they checked was a chest xray. Boom! There it was.

Most common cause of stomach ache is constipation. Start checking when she poops.

I would go back to the doctors and ask for blood tests. It could be a Gastrointestinal problem she has.

Definitely get 2nd opinion. Could she be lactose intolerant or maybe it’s something in the water

just a thought Appendicitis… it can come and go and be quite painful.

Could be appendicitis

I had severe stomach pains recently and the hospital couldn’t figure it out. I went to a gastroenterologist and determined I have IBS: Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Dairy, some seasonings and sauces and acidic fruits and veggies are a huge no-no. If I eat a wrong food not only will my stomach hurt, but my large intestine does too. Even though you changed her diet it may not be in the way that she needs. If her doctor doesn’t know take her to a gastroenterologist. They’re the experts on digestive system issues.

Strep throat can cause stomach issues

My son had something similar and he was fructose intolerant. Try cutting out foods with sugar as 1 one of the first 3 ingredients this would also include any sugar alcohols such as mannitol, sorbitol etc. Also look at what fruit has a high fructose content. It means reading every ingredient list ( you would be surprised with what you find) but certainly worth the shot. Took us 6 years for a diagnosis

Stress! Is there anger at home or school?

I have issues with severe gastritis that started when I was 5, doctor thought it was possibly attention seeking because it would come and go, but my mom insisted there’s no way because I’d sit out on fun things crying in pain. After a crap ton of tests they discovered what it was; it took an endoscopy from a pediatric gastroenterologist, to diagnose. I’m not sure what her pain is but mine was like the worst heartburn ever (severe burning, sometimes nausea, and a heavy feeling in my stomach). Laying certain ways helped and a very bland diet for a few weeks helped. Not sure if this helps but I hope she gets relief! I think it’s awesome you’re still looking for physical reasons and not immediately thinking it’s stress or attention seeking.

Have her call bladder checked. I know several people who had gall bladder issues, this one girl didn’t have something done until her gall bladder had swollen so big it was impossible to ignore by doctor’s. Her parents didn’t believe her for most of her childhood when she said she was in pain

Get blood work! I went through a bout of abdominal pain and ended up being a rare case of Mono in my spleen. I almost killed me, had it not been for the 3rd doctor I seen being concerned about it. Blood work would help and an abdominal ultrasound to be safe

could be anxiety/stress. Related

My daughter had the same issue. Pain became so intolerable she would double over in pain, crying her heart out. It took 2 back to back ER visits in 3 days and me complaining that they didn’t do sh*t the first time I brought her in. After multiple tests and stool samples and a gastroenterologist appt, she was finally diagnosed with C. Diff. (Colstridium Difficile) it is rare in children but it happens.
Make the Dr run tests. It is treatable.

Get a referral to a gastroenterologist. I had issues and was diagnosed with crohns disease. And find a new pediatrician if this one won’t do a referral…

It would scare me silly if I was this Mom reading your comments. I think she was asking for advice of where to take her child to be examined not examples of what it could be.

I’d go to a different doctor and get a second opinion…have them do blood work and more testing… as a mom that is heartbreaking having your child be in pain all the time and dont know why. Try your hardest even if its multiple doctors to find out what’s wrong.

Gastro doctor for sure still going through these type of issues with my now 11 ye old since the time she was born heard everything from stomach acid to diet to he having a form of terrets

For my son it ended up being constipation and dr gave him miralax and haven’t had any problems since

My niece did the same thing and it was anxiety. It happened alot when driving her to school. Not sure if this helps but thought it worth mentioning.

My bestie went through the same thing but with added diarrhea and throwing up, she took her to see a doctor and they ran tests. Come to find out she is allergic to dairy and wheat. She too is 6

Contact to Jessica Buchholz Murray. It sound like my granddaughter have stomach ache and fever. So hope that helps to talk to jessica ok

Oh. She is 7 yrs old girl

Possibly a gluten allergy? Or constipation?

If you think the doctor is not really doing everything that could be done, and you will just know because of your intuition, I suggest finding a different Peds doctor, if that is not in the works take her to your general family physician as they are also trained to care for pediatric patients.

ANXIETY! Little children complain of stomach aches when they are anxious. I wish I’d known this years ago because I could have gotten my own child help much sooner.

Celiacs or inability to digest complex sugars

Take her to emergency.

Don’t be fobbed off. Demand some tests such as ultrasound and colonoscopy. Sometimes children are ill and doctors are too keen to blame it on anything because they are ‘too young’.My daughter was called lazy and attention seeking turns out she had something physically wrong. Fight for your rights fight for your daughter. Remember she is totally reliant on you. Doctors are not God. Let me know how you get on much love and prayers xxx

ask for a referral to see a gastroenterologist or GI doctor.

Pediatricians are not trained for this. Take her to a GI specialist.

GI and allergist is who I would talk to.

GI or its a possible sign of anxiety with children

Is she being picked on at school

Check into stress and/or anxiety as well. She may not be aware that is what it is.

Anxiety manifest itself in many physical forms. I would try child counseling

Could be a lot of causes, I would recommend a second opinion. There is something called functional abdominal pain in kids and it is basically a symptom of anxiety usually related to a school situation or something but that’s a diagnosis of exclusion meaning rule out everything else first. Constipation, heartburn, stomach ulcer, congenital deformity of some part of the GI tract… the possibilities are endless.

Hey mama my daughter was the same. We took her off gluten completely and switched to raw milk and she’s 100% better

It could also be stress/anxiety…My daughter use to get stomach aches, after many doctors, tests, and everything coming back normal. A counselor helped us realize it was stress/anxiety.

My daughter had stomach issues for a while, pediatrician did xray and she was constipated. She pooped enough for me to not even think of constipation, but not enough for her belly to feel good.

Ask for her to be tested for h-pylori my daughter was the exact same way

Is she having any trouble at school? Sometimes kids who are being bullied or have anxiety complain of a stomachache. I would also push for more medical testing. An ultrasound of her stomach maybe? Just some guesses.

Maybe celiac/gluten intolerant? My sister was like this. Not all gluten foods bothered her always some triggered it more. In order to be tested for it she needs to be “on” gluten. But the test I would say aren’t always accurate. My sisters came back negative but once she switched to gluten free foods/snacks she stopped having stomach pains and only has them when she eats too much bread or pastries stuff like that.

She needs a specialist tell your dr to refer her to one she needs to be scoped not told it’s her diet that Dr should be ashamed…it could be a serious issue…somethings wrong with that baby

I would recommend a Pediatric gastroenterologist and rule out anything serious, if they cannot diagnose anything I would recommend a therapist to see what could be bothering her.

Could just be her nerves making her belly hurt or something else internally I’d get another opinion or a possible bladder infection/uti my daughter had a few of them! Hope she feels better soon!

My daughter had some issues like this as a younger child. It was related to anxiety issues and also her body could not tolerate the heavily processed foods at school. So she recommended we pack a lunch and see how that went and it made a huge difference. She now has been taking a lunch from home for many years. Also talk to her teacher and see if there has been anything going on at school.

I had the exact same thing as a kid. Turns out it was anxiety.

Insist on an ultrasound and allergy tests. Don’t stop pushing g these doctors! Moms know best.

Try cutting back on all that acid (the fruit and juices)

Sounds like could be gastrointestinal allergy. My son gets really bad griping pains if he eats some thing hes allergic to. Doesnt show up on allergy testing but a dietician should be able to help with cutting out/adding back in. Keep a food diary for her as well that should help pinpoint if it’s food

She definitely needs a second opinion! When I was younger I cried with my stomach all the time but dr kept telling my mom nothing was wrong. Come to find out I had an ulcer! There are several things this could be from IBS, ulcer, constipation, gas, etc.

Get your pediatrician to refer you to a GI Doctor…if all scans come back normal then it could very well be anxiety causing IBS or something similar.

Protein makes yout poop harder she needs more fibre to soften (if thats the goal)

you can see a gastrointestinal dr. it could also be anxiety or stress there is so much it can be with little ones

My daughter was the same way. We found out she had a tear in her intestines which was causing constipation and terrible cramps :disappointed:

Go to a gastroenterologist they specialize in this area …you know your baby better than anyone be an advocate for her & get answers GOOD LUCK

Keep going to drs and force them to run tests. And there could also be something happening at school that is making her stomach ache can you keep her home like a week and see what happens?

Does she drink cows milk?..
might be lactose intolerant

Try celiac testing and it could be anxiety.

Could be anxiety honestly…

Anxiety
Lactose Intolerance
Gluten

Top 3 things that come to mind

Is she having regular bowel movements. Could she be holding it when at school and that is causing discomfort.

GI specialist or even a possible therapist. My IBS began when I was very young, about 8 yrs old. A huge part of IBS is anxiety as well. Can’t really medicate IBS but probiotics and “self care” seem to help. Being sure to sleep well, eat properly, get a lot of water, relaxation and calming down every one in awhile is also definitely needed. I, along with all the females in my family go back and forth between Immodium and Milk of Magnesia, plus tons of yogurt everyday. Best of luck

I would stop lemonade and other acidic foods (tomatoes, etc) . Have you noticed flareups after specific food? Is she constipated?

I suffered from stomach aches when I was a kid it was anxiety I worked myself up with worry about going to school the next day I was being bullied

cut our dairy and gluten.
stop the juices.

push for a Gastroenterologist

I’m gonna guess anxiety cause I grew up with it and I was nauseated like clockwork every day. But I’d take her to a gastro too.

Dairy intollerance? I had stomach aches for years growing up and eventually found out Im lactose entollerant. You could also request an ultrasound so make sure nothing else is wrong, theres so many things in the stomach area, it could be anything! Poor thing💜

When I was about 8 I was diagnosed with diverticulitis. Anytime I eat a food with a lot of seeds or nuts I end up bloated and crampy. :woman_shrugging:t3: I’m 38 now and still have to be mindful of these things.

Anxeity will make a child have upset belly also! I’ve been dealing with this since my daughter was 6 she is 7 now and she was diagnosed with anxeity…

I went through this with both of my kids… it was due to anxiety and stress because of a problem at school. It took me several months to figure it out… kids can’t pinpoint or express why they are anxious. Take baby steps, talk to get about school, teachers, classes, kids. Watch her cues. That could help you pinpoint the problem. Talk to teachers and staff, be persistent. You are her mother, you will know if something is wrong. Good luck !!

How does she do going to the bathroom? My 6 year old complained constantly, we took him to a gi and he’s been constipated to the point where his colon has pockets and is unable to move the stool in them. His anus is also very tight and can’t pass regular stool without hurting him which results in him trying to hold it. He’s on a daily laxative to help

Check and make sure her bowels are moving regularly! I am a mother of 4 and a grandmother of 18! We have dealt with lots of things but ultimately insist that the dr double checks everything because I am NOTa dr!

It is possible that she is getting bullied at school. Or even somewhere else. Start asking questions- her, the teachers, her friends…

Take her to another doctor they will help I’m sure

Where at in her tummy does it hurt? Have they done at least an ultrasound?

Start with lactose free milk, cut bread for a week…see if this helps…juice can have a lot of sugar…cut down on juice
While trying this get your Dr to send her to a specialist…
If her tummy ache goes away you have your answer. .

Have her checked for stuff like krohns I was the same way before i was diagnosed with it.

UTI? Has the dr done a urine sample? Constipation? Bowel issues? Is it her stomach she is actually having issues with? Like does she grab at or point to where it hurts? Stomachs are high up hear the breast bone.

Does it happen at specific times? Bedtime, before school… it maybe anxiety and I’d pay attention to when she’s saying she has a stomach ache

Dairy can be big issue

I had this, turned out to be anxiety from stress . Still get it

My daughter used to complain of stomach aches and would constantly end up at the nurses office at school. This started in kindergarten. By 2nd grade we found out she had ADHD combined Anxiety and complaints of stomach aches are common amongst ADHD or anxiety diagnosed children. As soon as she started medications she stopped complaining and never goes to the nurse.

It might be a symptom of Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome (FPIES). Ask your doctor about it.
Also, it could be related to stress or anxiety. Collaborate with teachers to make more observations. Is this her first year in this school? Does she tell you of any challenges?

My son had an allergy test turns out he is allergic to corn products, oranges, and shrimp. He never ate oranges or shrimp but once we stopped feeding him corn products, he has not had any issues since

Have her tested for celiacs disease. You can also test for a gluten intolerance by 100% omitting gluten for at least 3 weeks.

Anxiety issues will manifest as stomach pain in young children, especially.

It could very well be Acid Reflux. My son complains almost daily. Our doctor out him on a probiotic and a reflux med. When the med ran out his pain started back. So she put him on it long term. It’s more prominent in the morning and evenings with it bothering him here and there during the day. He burps up “vomit” as well. Hes 9. But hes satisfied with the relief of the meds.

Could be more anxiety than attention seeking. My oldest son has “tummy issues” when he gets anxious or stressed. Something could be happening at school. If you’re sure there’s nothing like that going on then ask her Ped for a referral to a specialist. It could be Chron’s or something.

My daughter has the same problem. We are having her tested for allergies. Also, anxiety has been linked to tummy aches. I have found some things to help alleviate tummy aches by alleviating whatever is around her that stresses her. Baths, warm milk. Book time. Its working.

Having the same thing going on with my 7yr old niece. Will cry and say it hurts so bad Mommy please make it stop. We’ve taken her to the Dr and urgent care a few times. The Dr thought it’s quite possible she has an ulcer and started her on liquid oral zantac for a month to see if that helps. Haven’t noticed her complaining about it nearly as much since then. She eats fruits, veggies, water, milk very rarely any sweets or junk food. Very active in sports and as a typical 7yr old. That very well may be what’s going on with your little one.
