My daughter has been complaining of stomach pain and I am at a loss: Advice?

My daughter had similar symptoms she was severely constipated.

My daughter did the same thing and we finally had a CT done. She was diagnosed with autonomic dysfunction which would cause terrible constipation then turn into diarrhea. She had other symptoms as well, but it took us 3yrs to find this out. You can always request to go to a pediatric gastroenterologist bc that is who ended up diagnosing mine. I hope this can help some.

Could it possible be anxiety? My 14 year old son gets them sometimes and it is only when he is in school. We figured out it was anxiety related.

Good sign of anxiety, does she like school?

Could also be H Pylori which is an intestinal bacteria

See a GI doc… Theyll do in depth lab work and possibly an ultrasound to see whats up… Also when shes home… Check her poops… Theyll ask what theu look like and can tell you so much just from appearance

As a little girl I had stomach aches which were related to stress at school and at home!! Amazing what children feel and internalize!!

Go to her doctor and demand a MRI now.

Allergy testing helped us figure out where my daughters pain was coming from. We got a dietician to do a basic allergy test, and many food allergies came back.

I hope you get it figured out, it is the absolute worst seeing our kids go through things out of our control.

Yes, we had to change my daughters whole diet, so many foods were in our house she was allergic to

Maybe acid reflux or constipation? If it persists speak to their pediatrician to see if they can refer to a gastroenterologist.

Find a Wellness Dr that will help you get to the root of the problem. I would stop all meds which may be making it worse until you know.

When I was little, I had frequent tummy aches, and headaches. I was finally diagnosed with anxiety when I was 23 and able to inform the doc. Of my other symptoms.

Check to see if shes lactose intolerant.

I went thru this when my daughter was in 4th grade…anxiety was mostly the case…we also changed her diet ,cut soda out…but she is now 18 and has been diagnosed with IBS-C
Testing by gastroenterologist will help…most will diagnose just by talking to her and her symptoms

If your momma gut knows something is going on insist on testing. Ask to be sent to a gastroenterologist. Ask for a CT and Ultrasoound. Ask her exactly where it hurts in her belly. And if it hurts in the same spot everytime. You are your childs best advocate put on your momma bear pants. If I wasnt a momma bear advocate for my kids they would be dead by now.

Have them check her gallbladder. My daughter had the same thing going on and the teacher kept saying she was just home sick. We went to doctor also and changed diet. We tried everything. After this was going on for over 6 months, my son and her were wrestling and he fell on her stomach and she screamed. I took her into the emergency room and they did an ultrasound of her stomach. Her gallbladder was full of gravel! She was 6 and know is 17! Doesn’t hurt to check.

2nd opinion yesterday!

Go get tests done asap and see what’s wrong with her.

Ask for a referral an abdominal ultrasound or to see a GI specialist asap! When that hapoened to me turns out certain foods like wheat & dairy are EXTREMELY painful for my body. There are a multitude of reasons this is happening & her dr needs to get it together & stoo brushing it off because she clearly doesn’t have a clue.

My son had the same problem at about the same age. I learned a couple of years later that it was not related to his stomach. It was anxiety and stress. He was in French immersion and it was causing him too much stress but he didn’t know how to tell us and he didn’t know any different. We got him to work with the school counselor and it helped him a lot. I would recommend this avenue.

Definitely talk to a gastroenterologist but also look into anxiety and stress possibly contributing. I’m 42 and quite a bit of my belly issues during childhood was anxiety

Take her to a GI doctor NOT the Pediatrcian. I went through 17 Pediatrcian’s when my son was little bc no one would listen to me. Turned out he had a rare and incurable disease. Listen to your momma intuition. Something is wrong.

I would take mine to a pediatric GI- gastroenterologist . They are more familiar with what could cause the stomach pains. Some simple tests can rule out the bigger issues or point you toward allergies, or anxiety

I had an ulcer in 2nd grade .Could she be lactose intolerant??

My daughter was born with acid reflux. Has always been on anti acids. Diet is limited. No tomato based food, no juices accept white grape, no spices, beef or pork, nor soda/pop. She hated Zantac & Nexuem that her Pediatrician gave her. Instead, Children’s chewable Pepto was what helped her. And, bottle of water bedside. We also elevate her bed. Worth a try. Could be acid reflux. Hope u find answers and relief.

Sometimes when kids say they have a stomach ache it’s because they have anxiety but don’t know what it is or how to explain it xx

My 7 year old girl did this too. It was horrible! I had to stay on top of her doctor. Turns out she has chronic compaction issues.
She now has to take 2 fiber gummies a day and prescription strength miralax. Don’t stop fighting for your child.

Definitely take her to a specialist. Pediatricians are great for the regular, run of the mill dr appt, but with any type of subspecialty you want a physician who is well versed and practiced in that area. Appendicitis was my first thought…

My daughter had stomach issues when she was constipated. A little Miramax worked wonders. But if her Dr chalked it up to seeking attention, I’d be getting a new one.

My son went through that. It turned out he was being horribly bullied. He used it as an excuse not to go to school. But please take her to a gi Dr to make sure it is nothing medical.

More than likely it’s anxiety.

Switch her to another pediatrician then get a referral.

Bring her in and ask for tests to be done , they did the same to my son and he ended being taken to childrens hospital because he had pancreatitis and jaundice due to having abnormal tubing in his stomach, he had gall stones and sludge and ended up having surgery to have his gallbladder and duct removed

He literally would curl up in a ball and cry and say he couldn’t walk either

Could be gall bladder or appendix!

You know with a child it could be anxiety etc. but I would have medical conditions ruled out first by taking her to a gastroenterologist. Take note if her bowel movements are regular and normal. Have them rule out IBS, Lactose intolerance, etc.etc.

Get another doc to check her out, maybe a ped. gi

My daughter had the same thing happen when she was that age. Come to find out, she was super constipated. I would have an ultrasound or X-ray done of her tummy to see if that could be it

KEEP GOING UNTIL U FIND A DOCTOR THAT LISTENs!
You r her advocate…make them take u seriously…it’s your child, not there’s…I would be infuriated if nobody was doing anything for my kids/ Grandkids
They would remember me the next time if I saw a doctor, that said it was anxiety without even doing any testing on them.
There’s good doctors out there you will find the right one, keep going! Good luck to u…

Could be a gluten allergy, or she is really backed up. Happened to my niece. For a year she had the same symptoms, finally a doc scheduled an X-ray and saw all the stool that backed up in her.

anxiety…YES kids can have anxiety…its not just an adult issue

I had that problem when I was a kid. It was really bad acid reflux. Nothing of certain caused it. I would just get it all the time and I didn’t have symptoms of throwing up or belching or anything like that just horrible horrible stomach aches and my doctor finally prescribed me a super strong antacid. I can’t remember the name because I was a kid but maybe see if it’s that.

My daughter was having stomach issues. Her digestive tract is slow to process certain food. Dr. Took away milk, cheese. She is on lactose milk now. Doing a lot better occasional constipation causing belly pain, but i give her prunes daily. Monitor her intake cause she still eats pizza, cookies and stuff with milk. Good luck

My 6 year old was the same way for a while and turns out she was constipated :expressionless: so I just give her miralax and she hasn’t complained since :woman_shrugging:

My son has been going through this!!! His doctor told me he has chronic constipation and needed to relearn how to poop… I know it’s weird. He has to sit on the toilet in the morning and try to go and then when he gets home. He can go as many other times as he needs to but he needs to try at least twice a day. And he’s on stool softeners. I also cut all dairy from his diet. But he hates dairy products anyway. He’s been doing fine since we started this.

consipation. would def ask for an x-ray of her stomach, of motrin is helping i don’t get it. when i was around 12 , i had the worst stomach pain for about three days to the point i couldn’t walk, or hardly breathe. they never found the cause, dunno what it was but eventually it subsided on its own. i always wondered what it really was. .

or it could be anxiety.

Children don’t do this for attention. I think it’s either anxiety or some stomach issue. I would suggest first ruling out gastric issues. Take her to a gastroenterologist, to make sure everything is working as it should. If there if no underlying medical problem then maybe seek counseling. Also maybe try a food allergy test, because she might be sensitive to something you haven’t yet changed in her diet. Good luck

I had stomach problems as a child that went undiagnosed I now think it was anxiety I had to quit competitive dancing and lost a lot of schooling.

I went through years of this with my daughter. Years of every test imaginable. When she was 14, it became very apparent that she suffers with extreme anxiety.

Children’s stomach aches are mainly caused by anxiety and depression can lead to ulcers if depression and anxiety are not addressed

Second opinion!! Demand tests to be done, no one knows your baby better than you. Trust your gut, lots of doctors are overwhelmed with patients and their visits are very general

I would find a new pediatrician that will help you find what else to do.

Does she have anxiety about school?

Ask pediatrician to refer you to a gastroenterologist

My middle daughter had adominal migraines when she was around 6 till she turned 10. She cried a lot as it hurt so much. I found a well covered hot water bottle helped a lot

Maybe constipated. I use milk of magnesia. Sometimes you cant get backed way up be going to bathroom but still constipated

Lactose intolerance? Or some other intolerance. Or maybe anxiety

My daughter suffered from constant stomach pain and it always turned out to be constipation. It would back her up and cause her upper GI pain and would also give her UTIs from not being able to empty her bladder all the way.

My daughter has been dealing with constipation issues… We thought at first, it was just her way of getting out of chores… 2 xrays and a week of Miralax later, she feels much better… But still whines about doing chores lol

Make them do an exray and ultra Sound…had a grandbaby who got so bad took to hospital scared out of pur wits just for them to say urinary infection…which was not accurate…after testing found her stomach was so full of stool and her bowels were so backed up that even that was surrounded by a huge gas bubble…found out lactose intolerant…this was at age 6 so yes it can happen over time…simple cleaning out her stomach and system THEN change of diet…if already that backed up changing diet won’t help til after

Has she been tested for a UTI? It doesn’t matter if she don’t drink pop, some times juices can give you a UTI, my daughter had one and it happened 2 times. The second time she was in so much pain he blood pressure was thru the roof.and my daughter was 9 just last year when it happened.

Could be anxiety, take her to a counselor.

Check for gluten intolerance.

Anxiety. I used to get horrible horrible stomach pains as a child. I had testing done at children’s hospital and everything. They never could pinpoint the cause. About 2 years ago I read a study I found regarding stomach pains in children and the majority of them (that aren’t caused by an underlying illness like the flu), are anxiety formed. I eventually grew out of the pains, though I still have horrible anxiety and am medicated for it. I would suggest taking her to counseling. Maybe it will help her relieve some of the anxiousness.

Anxiety, my 4 year old is going through this about going to school. Or sinuse infection

I had a nervous stomach as a child (especially when going to school) at that time there were soda fountains, my mother would give me a nickle to get a shot of coke syrup. Coke syrup has no medicinal value, it’s psychological. You can pick up Coke syrup in a drug store; let her have her shot of CS before school. Her very own medicine.

Take her to a gastroenterologist i had to do that turns out it was Celiac’s disease server allergy to gluten

Have them check if she’s constipated. My son went thru this and all his poop wasn’t coming out. I have to give Miralax and it helped

Try a probiotic and a couple days a week with no meat .could be anxiety. Plan something special to do everyday you and her just small things! Good luck

My granddaughter was 8 and was complaining of stomach ache constantly. They had her in emergency two or three times because she didn’t sleep all night just crying their stomach hurt. Finally my son refuses to leave the hospital and said you need to figure this out. It turned out she had a cyst on her undeveloped ovary. She had surgery had it removed and she’s been fine ever since. I never would have dreamed that that could happen to an 8 year old. My point being keep going to a doctor until you find out what it is

Is she constipated? 2 of our kids had issues for awhile. Dehydration and not going seemed to be the cause. And with the youngest we think sometimes she was actually hungry (a very picky eater). We didnt do the fiber tabs daily unless they were having issues. Otherwise it was when they would not go for a day.

Anxiety often shows up as stomach aches for kids

My daughter was complaining of stomach pain as well and come to find out she got acid reflux really bad from anxiety. She takes something every day and it seems to help

I’d get her checked out by a gastroenterologist. It could celiac disease etc.

Look for a pediatric gastroenterologist in your area. I think that is a good place to start. Someone also mentioned that in kids, stomach pain can be a sign of anxiety. Does she have a school counselor she could talk to?

Sounds like anxiety. My 5 yr old gdaughter was having stomach problems. She was given children’s Tagamet.

I did this to my mother around the same age because I wanted to spend more time with her plus anxiety. I would say my back or tummy hurt. But other times it was because I couldnt use the bathroom. I was constipated.

Ask for a referral to a GI dr

I had stomach aches all the time as a kid. Mine were caused by severe anxiety.

I had that with my now 8 year old daughter. Started when she was 5 and it was so often. Turned out that she has a short urethra and so it was a recurring UTI. Once the Dr told us and said she has to be very careful everytime she wipes after the bathroom with #2 its definitely been less. On one occasion it was also accompanied with gastritis, so her diet has changed also

1/2 Cup water
1 tsp baking soda
2 tbsp lemon juice
Twice a day for first 3 days and then 1 time a day for 10 days

Try a small spoon full of miralax in her water once a day. And try talking to her about stuff that’s going on in her life that she might seem uneasy or tough to openly talk about. My first experience with my son’s anxiety and his first panic attack was “MY TUMMY HURTS” and I had nothing else to go on… until I put two and two together walking into school past a kid who would make fun of him and he started to grab his tummy. He was 5. Now he’s “regular “ and I don’t use the mix but it’s seems to have subsided with conversations

My 8 year old complains every night of the same thing. She can be playing around and almost litterally bouncing off the walls but when I tell her it’s time for bed I get “my belly hurts mommy”. I’ve found it’s just anxiety about going to sleep for her. Happens more when it’s a school day the next day too.

Worked with multiple doctors about my son from the age 4 until currently he is 10. Tried different diets, tests, meds. He went from stomach pains, constipation, to chest pains, then combination of them all. Finally have him being seen about anxiety. He has improved tremendously over the last 5 months. It is sad how much their little bodies are going through and how hard it is of them to cope. So things come out in the most unexpected ways.

May be an allergy to something or might be something with digestive system. Might be anxiety or stress. Maybe try to get dr to help rule out the possibility of medical related issues. I hope you find out what’s going on. Gosh feel bad for you and kiddo.

My daughter had stomach aches when she was a little girl right up to high school. No one knew what was wrong. Just after graduation she got so sick we almost lost her. I took her to the ER and there they sent her for a colonoscopy. That’s how we found out she had Crohns disease. She spent 3 weeks in the hospital being fed by IV in her neck. She has had multiple surgeries and even intestine removed. Please don’t discount what your child tells you. And don’t be afraid to get second opinions or even more. She still fights this disease every day, but she has not let it stop her. She married and has a 10 year old daughter and a 2 year old son. She is an amazing woman.

Anxiety, I was so bad I would poop myself at school. I would see if a school counselor could sit down with her even just to rule it out.

Could also have to do with her reproductive system.

Request a GI specialist to examine her if the tests clear it might be other things like anxiety stress rule out the small stuff to the find the root and then focus on trying to get to the solution my daughter does that too sometimes but it’s been constipation issues as well as always you mom know your child best follow that gut feeling it will never lie

I had pretty much the exact symptoms as a kid, took years to have someone suggest to be tested for Celiac disease. My mom had to ask the doctor to do the test, this was before it was a dieting fad. I always had a terrible stomach ache, felt ill, and lethargic.

Went through exactly the same scenario when I was about 5 years old. Trips to the doctor, diet of nothing but bland food and chicken, even several days in Bayonne Hospital for tests. Also did the coke syrup thing. None of the genius minds with MD’s had a clue. After a time, which admittedly was awful for me, it simply stopped!

Had this yesterday. Took to dr as my little one does not cry in school bit was inconsolable. Constipated. Sr could feel where it was. Given Movicol for a few weeks to shift it. She does poop but I think she does hold onto it too.

My daughter kept having stomach ache turns out she has coeliac disease x

My daughter started at that age too. Anxiety. We have her on a probiotic to help her. We haven’t had any complaints now on tummy for a year. We put her on a product called all star nutrition.

Perhaps she has separation anxiety?
