My husband makes our 9 and 13 year old do yard work: Is that okay?

I think he is teaching them responsibility, there is nothing wrong with that.

No let them do what they can- shows independent and a good work ethic

Of course he should, I had my youngest daughter cleaning an impound yard when she was 10, she was helping around house before that. She is late 20s now , 2 jobs , about 10 cars, and looking to buy a homestead. 5 or more acres.

Why would you even ask a question like that…

Nothing wrong at all, teach them early. People now a days are raising lazy teens.

When i was 10 i was milking 10 cows by hand, going to school . Evening time milk cows again then do home work. Us i took trash out, mowed grass ,mase my own bed. Children need to know how to work ,then they wont grow up thinking everything is owe to them.

R u kidding?
Hell yes they should be doing this.
I can’t believe this is even questioned. No wonder these kids have their hands out like they are owed something. Geez

I think he is spot on that’s what’s wrong with kids today they sit around on the phone or computer and expect everything to be handed to them

Perfect ages for kids to be doing yard work. Helping w house work, rounding up laundry, doing dishes, empty rubbish, wash cars ,sweep floors, clean bathrooms,

My sister and I had paying jobs at 6 and 9 yrs old, we lived at the lake next to a resort. We were paid a dime each to clean boats and to take sheets to and from cabins , we loved it .we helped around home for free of course

I think your husband is a very smart man

I’m one of 5. We all helped cut grass, weed, edge, rake and sweep. We didn’t have all this fancy yard equipment they have today. It made us appreciate what we have today!

Get yo girls out that yard and tell him since he can’t do it than he needs to HIRE LANDSCAPER to do his job. PERIODT SMDH

Definitely not too young. Just don’t expect the 9 year old to keep up and do as much. Weekly allowance or some kind of payment.

Your husband is doing a great job your 13 yo will be driving a car in two years a lawnmower is also a piece of machinery that garners respect

Go back and ask their great grandparents who crawled on their knees dragging a cotton sack trying to fill it when they were 10 years old.
