My mother in law is worried CPS will show up because my son fell off the bed

No CPS will not be called or be involved. It was an accident and accidents happen. I will admit my own son has fell off beds many times and I’ve tried to catch him and was to late.

CPS wouldn’t just show up hnless they’ve been contacted either by a medical professional or an otherwise ‘concerned’ individual making a report… MIL sounds really over dramatic or she’s calling CPS herself :woman_shrugging:t2:

If you have t dropped your kid at least once then your not parenting correctly! Dad is right on cue :joy:. Surprised it didn’t happen sooner. Try not to beat your self up too much about it. They call cps when kids become frequent flyers at the doctored with cuts and bruises and stories that don’t add up. Dad did everything correctly, good for him. Most dads would not mention a fall in fear of mom getting angry. He made sure his baby was ok and taken care of. Sounds like you have a great husband to be!! Best wishes for you both

If cps shows up just know she called.

No. I don’t know how many of my babies fell off things like couches and beds and since you took baby to the hospital and you haven’t had a visit already makes me think the doctors thought it was absolutely an accident. Plus the doctors know the signs of an abused child and are mandatory reporters and if they didn’t show up at the hospital then I’m sure you’re good. Unless she calls them on you and they have to follow up.

If your baby doesn’t fall off the bed at least once are they really even a baby

My girl has fallen off of numerous things, many bruises, many ER visits, many drs visits… cps never came. One of the worse ones was she fell off one of those folding kids camping chairs face first into tar at 10 mos old. Daddy turned his head for a second and she fell. She was tore up. We went to the ER besides a few cuts and bruises she was fine and CPS never came. It’ll be okay I promise. My girls accident prone even now at almost 2 years old.

My son fractured his leg at one and noone came out. Because they could tell it was a legit fracture not caused by abuse. The EMS know your baby isn’t being beating or neglected. Bed falls happen alot more often than we think. Your fine mama and if they do come out just be honest. Nothing to worry about. Unless grandma does.

No they will not show up both my kids have fell off the bed and the couch they are accidents they happen

No way. Lol. That happens more often than people think it does.

No they won’t turn up she’s trying to scare you and her saying that sounds like she would call them herself

Girl, I forgot to lock the arms on the car seat and my baby fell out :person_shrugging: every baby falls once upon a time of the bed, couch even flip out the crib :rofl: hopefully baby is ok

It happens… they’re not going to come unless it’s a pattern. If baby is “falling off of things” every other week then they might investigate.

It may seem crazy but babies falling off the bed, couch, etc… by accident is very common. The only way you will get a visit from CPS is if someone calls them on you.

No one would have custody of their babies if that was the case.

Maybe u should call CPS and ask them?

I’m pretty sure at least 75% of babies have rolled off the bed. Mine both did. They’re fine. 1 was 6 months old and 1 was 8 months.
No cps isn’t coming unless someone (like her) calls. Someone has to report it. I got called in, they came out looked around and said have a great day sorry we bothered you. Mine was unrelated to the bed incident, an angry friend tried to get revenge by calling cps.
Anyways. Someone has to call, then there has to be evidence of abuse/neglect when they come. If they responded to every baby that rolled off the bed we would all have a personal CPS agent assigned to us.
Breathe. You’re a good mama. No one I coming for your kid

With how many people you got involved, anything is possible

No my daughter fell off our bed - we immediately took her in - did not get in trouble esp bc we were being so careful with her safety. Another time one of my twins cut her tongue open and soon as I said she was a twin every dr understood how crazy 18 month old twins are - she had tripped with her mouth open and her teeth cut her tongue open. She had to have 3 stitches - worst night of my life.

Sometimes they will follow up depending on if it was reported by first responders or the PCP… however I highly doubt they would have reported it because the issue was handled immediately. If it was reported just be honest about what happened and your case will be closed pretty quickly.

Even social workers know stuff happens.

They are not really babies until the fall off the bed…

Both of mine fell off the bed and worse (should have seen my husband faint at the first nosebleed) :grimacing::joy: they are little hellions. Lol my mom said me and my twin (at 2-3) rolled down our stairs on purpose :woman_facepalming:t3::joy: I think most people that work with kids know shit happens. Unless it becomes a frequent pattern no one will call on you. Don’t stress :heart:

Only if the Dr called them and reported you.

If the story is true, it wouldn’t matter if CPS DID show up. In my area, CPS would absolutely not have the time or resources to open an investigation when a kid falls of the bed.

Sounds like future MIL? Has some trauma that comes up around this? CPS is definitely not being called on you! If the hospital or your doctor was going to make a recommendation to CPS? They would need to file a 51 a and they will tell you that they are filing a 51A against you! You have nothing to worry about! I think MIL needs to talk about what happened in her past?

No. Trust me, cps has way more pressing things to deal with than a baby that accidentally fell off the bed. If you took your baby or kid to daycare or school with constant bruising and suspicious injuries then yes

Yeah but it’s bivouac if it’s abuse or just falling off the bed. They can tell.

If for some reason they are just cooperate with them. Their job is to make sure that kiddos are safe and taken care of. If that’s the case you have nothing to worry about. My kiddos dad and his psycho ex called CPS on me with false allegations of drug use and people living with that were druggies. (Their dads now ex thought I was sleeping with her ex and my kiddos dad was jealous because he thought I was too and was mad because he didn’t want me involved with any other man.) I talked to CPS calmly allowed them to see my kiddos, let them in to see our place, took a drug test and they went away. I don’t think they’ll come knocking accidents happen and you said baby is fine. It should all be ok. Good vibes send your way.

We’ve all been there. It only takes a second. I would pray CPS doesn’t push this. :revolving_hearts:

No they won’t, if they do, tell them baby is fine. Cps is a piece of joke. You don’t want them to involve in your kid’s life

It depends on the EMT and Dr. If they report it then they will investigate.

This happened to me! They showed up and opened a case

He fell out of his boppie

I was one who thought mine would never. She fell off my bed and I took her to urgent care and I was worried too about cps but unfortunately it’s a normal baby thing to do. You can try to watch at all times but eventually eyes will be away at some point.

No hunni
If there was any sign of abuse
The hospital, ambos and your peaditrion would be bound by law
To report it to the authorities

Girl my son fell off the bed and rolled under the blinds when he was 5 months and we never went to the doctor and he survived and no CPS called this was 10 years ago that must have been a high azz bed my son was walking at 7 months so I don’t remember him being unable to stand up

Did she have a bad experience with CPS showing up after taking a kid to the doctor for an injury maybe? People are saying she sounds shady but it sounds to me more like someone called on her and she’s got some trauma there. The doctor would’ve already reported it by now.

Cps won’t come unless someone calls. Coming from someone who has had cps in her life due to the fact my child falls constantly and 1x was on cement. And the 1st time she was in her walker and a kid I was watching decided to tip her over onto hardwood floors

If cps showed up it would mean that your mother in law called them. Otherwise you have no worries. She’s been a baby mum so why is she so paranoid about this simple accident

It depends if the responders or doctors felt the need to make a report. They review the case before they take it and it would need to meet the criteria for abuse or neglect. This is a common occurrence. We’ve all caught a baby by a foot or lunge because we turned for 2 seconds.

No CPS will not show up. EMTs checked baby over and said just follow up with Dr.

Yes if someone feels he’s being abused and calls them. They can very well show up for this.

First of all if the EMT’s said “baby looks fine, WE don’t feel this is emergent” EMT’s are mandated reporters. No way would they left without baby if they felt something was wrong. I’m kinda glad that ain’t my MIL cause I swore they were naming the children’s wing after my son and ALL of his head injuries (boys are rough and tumble trust me they’re so much worse than girls) that is an honest new parent mistake. Thankfully it ended how most do, as lesson learned and only the parents are worse for wear :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: don’t panic

Mh daughter fell off bed at 6 months old. Went to er. She was fine. 4 years later cps never was called.

They have to come if there is a report.that doesnt meen they will or theyll take your baby.sounds like you did all the right things.

I bet youll be fine. Unfortionately CPS does show up & like to make something out of nothing but usually they only say abuse if theres a brain bleed or something caused by the fall. If pediatrician said its fine then i bet there fine.

My daughter rolled off the bed at 16 months and broke her arm… cps never showed up

Tell hubby to. Not call next time for sure… it happens baby will ne ok

Things happen and even though CPS can be a pain in the butt, always remember they have a job to do. Could they come? Sure if they are called to do so, and that is usually if a child is none stop hurt and the doctor thinks something is behind it. So don’t worry yourself, babies roll and I’m glad your little one is good.

Probably not the EMTs would have had to report it.
Usually it’s for broken bones.
If they do read what you’re rights are as a parent for your state.
I would not let them in you don’t have to talk to them. They can get a court order first.
We need to stop making it seem normal. To just obey. We make there job easy,By just complying.

Yup they will but DO NOT let them in yr home! You bring baby outside and DO NOT I mean DO NOT sign anything! Tell them you won’t sign anything until you talk to yr lawyer. The case will be unfounded if you follow my directions! They moment you let let in yr home or sign that paper is the moment you are saying yr guilty of child abuse/ neglect and they open a case against you!!

My daughter tripped over some shoes at around age 2. Busted open her chin and needed stitches. CPS was never called. You did what you were supposed to. Kids are just accident prone. It doesn’t make you a bad parent

Well. CFS showed up at my door step because my daughter has aggression issues esp towards her brother and both kids wake up in the middle of the night :unamused: I’m in contact with a behavioral specialist and my daughter is in therapy for her aggression. I’m on it. All it takes is that one social worker who abuses their power. Unfortunate but that’s how it works

My son fell off the bed a couple of times as a baby. He’s now 25 and just fine.

My oldest was a wild child. She was a million miles an hour from day 1. She fell all the time.
Once she ran thru the house with a blanket on her head.
Of course she couldn’t see and about the time I screamed, “get that off your face before you fall!” She smacked face first into the coffee table. Above her eye was cut and she had to
have stitches. This is one of many instances… we took her to the ER every time. No one ever questioned our parenting. Medical professionals know kids get hurt. Unless there’s a history of child or drug abuse, violence, etc in the household, or the injury doesn’t match the incident there’s no reason for concern.
Kids get hurt no matter how well we keep our eyes on them.

Probably not they would’ve came the next day or they would’ve took him right then and there

They will if someone calls it in. By law they are required to follow up.

They MIGHT. Most of the time when police are called and children are involved, they have to report it to CPS. it will be a few days before they show up, and if they do, they most likely will close it the same day. You guys too immediate action to make sure your baby was safe.

I don’t think the doctor or emt will call CPS. It was an accident and the child got care. I was exactly like you with my first and now I’m on my 3rd and I’m like :woman_facepalming:t2::woman_shrugging:t2:. My 1st is now 10 and he recently injured himself by stepping on a shower curtain hook. CPS wasn’t called. My 2nd went over bike handlebars, CPS wasn’t called. My 3rd likes to climb on the top part of the couch and had fallen off several times, CPS hasn’t been called. Kids are gonna get injured unfortunately and CPS is not gonna get called every time.

Doubt it but if they do it won’t go anywhere

If your worried about cps coming and being able to find abusive/neglectful evidence then cps should probably be involved.

Accidents happen we just have to learn from them.

They don’t just show up. You would get a phone call first. Accidents happen. Just let mil know you have nothing to hide and if they do get contacted they are just checking to make sure your child is safe.

They would have came the next day if they were gonna come, they don’t wait they usually come right away

When my oldest (now 10) was 1.5, he fell off my bed (tall bed, and tile floors) and broke his collarbone. At first, I didn’t think it was anything more than bruised. Then I tried to change his shirt (later that day) and he screamed. I immediately took him to the ER where they confirmed broken. I told them it had happened earlier in the day, and they never called cps.

My daughter fell off the changing table when she was a baby. I turned my body for one quick second to grab something and she was down. We went to the ER, CPS was not called

No. Unless someone calls CPS to have things checked out. Both of my kids also fell off the bed when I’ve turned away for a second or while they were sleeping. It’s sad when they fall and get hurt but it doesn’t mean you are a bad parent.

Unlikely, babies/toddlers are prone to bruises on their heads when learning to stand. BUT, I am concerned about the future MIL reaction, maybe she knows something you don’t know, such as a tendency to have violent outbursts. JS🤷‍♀️

Unlikely since you called ems and it’s documented with bruises and no injuries. If the baby had a injury that required hospitalization they definitely would be there. The pediatrician will submit paperwork to the county. As long as the dr doesn’t find negligence you should be ok

My granddaughter learning to pull up face planted the vacuum and needed a stitch, no CPS came.

Nah. It happens. I work in a ER and it happens. We are all human. If they didn’t call a social worker to speak with you, you are fine. It happens

I’ve gotten phone calls for accidents. Never anything beyond that. My daughter dislocated her elbow once when my husband was playing with her. Got a call at work, case closed.

Accidents happen, cps wont show up just because of an accident

Nah. My youngest pushed all her blankets to one side of her crib and crawled out, hit her head and was puking by the time I made it down stairs with her.(I was in the room laying with my son, it was nap time, he was I a toddler bed, she was in crib.) I hauled butt to the er. Thank God she was OK. But cps never came, doctors and nurses know when a child is abused. I was freaking out! They know things happen. Kids get hurt no matter what age. Luckily they are resilient

OMG, NO!! They would not show up. First of all the baby didn’t even go to the hospital. The hospital staff is who would report it to CPS if they felt it were a case of abuse.

Highly doubtful they’d come. All three of mine have fallen out of the bed around that age and nothing became of it. I can understand where the extra anxiety comes from nowadays but that’s a fairly common accident. I even had a 18 month old who tipped the shopping cart over when I turned around for a split second and hit her head on the pavement. I took her to the ER and nothing came of it.

Medical professionals are mandated reports, but as long as there isn’t a pattern, they won’t call cps. Accidents happen, and a vast majority of people understand that.

My daughter fell down our stairs(6 hardwood ) at 8 months old… glitch one baby gate . We felt terrible… ran to hospital… dr checked her out and told me “kids are like bouncy balls at this age … give her Tylenol for any discomfort and she’ll be fine” as long as no concussion it should be okay. Cps won’t show up unless someo calls . Kids fall all the time!

Kids usually fall off the bed when mom or dad turns away for a sec, due to the kids learning to turn and crawl. It happens to just about every parent

I was cleaning my jeep one day and my son was playing in the drivers seat. The windows were tinted real dark and did not know he was leaning against the door when I opened it. He fell and smacked his face on the concrete. We went to the ER. He’s was alright. No CPS contacted me.

Potentially they could but it’s honestly unlikely. Medical treatment was sought immediately going so far as to call 911. And medical treatment was followed up on. So they cannot report medical abuse. Depending on your history they may call as they are required to report abuse but I wouldn’t even sweat over it if they did. It would likely be a open and shut case.
