My son has a diaper rash due to his antibiotic: What can I do?

Old fashioned but works immediately 100% of the time!! Safe, cheap and easy… go buy a small can of solid shortening like crisco. Use it

I used to make a baking soda paste on a soft washcloth. If you gently hold it on the rash for as long as baby will let you it will draw out the redness.

Rub his butt with buttermilk when you change his diaper.

A&D works wonders on my babies skin

Rinse the wipes before you use them or use a soft wet washcloth. Change him often to keep him dry. Let him air out as much as you can. Baking soda or oatmeal baths. I switched between diaper rash cream and A&D each diaper change.

My son had a rash so bad he scabbed up and bled. It was awful. The oatmeal bath was amazing. Just make sure to grind it good enough it won’t clog up your tub lol

If nothings helping talk to his doctor. He may need a prescription strength ointment

Definitely rinse the baby wipes. They sting when there is a diaper rash! Good old vaseline stays on and helps quickly.

Vagisil or yeast infection cream

Corn starch works well

40 years ago we used to use bag balm

Rx Nystatin Ointment, ask your pediatrician. It’s the best. Happened to my daughter all the time she would have terrible ear infections and get diaper rash from the antibiotics too.

He may be allergic to the med.

Beudros butt paste is what i used

My daughter had the same thing. My doctor had me use a cool setting on a hair dryer to dry her bottom after gently washing and rinsing with clear water. Then leave the diaper off. Air is the best healer.

An easy remedy is milk of magnesia soak a cotton ball and coat the red skin Ishles paste also works really well

Put cornflour on his bottom it is great for that also you can get powder that has cornflour in it there is a virus going around at present that is causing diarrhoea and vomiting as my little granddaughter has it

Name of powder is curash

A and D works. The kind in the tub with the yellow top.

Milk of magnesia can work if you have nothing else. Apply a good amount and dry with a hairdryer on low before diapering-then get A and D in the morning.

zincofax is amazing or penaten

First of all, rinse baby wipes and try not to be too rough when wiping. You may want to use a Vaseline or vita!in a and d cream. Did he get loose bowel movements too, some do. If so,try not to give too much fruit except for bananas and applesauce. Make sure diapers and pants aren’t too snug in crotch area too

Hi, my daughter had this and it was thrush (yeast infection) like us adults antibiotics can cause us to get thrush. Grab some anti fungal cream at a chemist or pharmacy and it should clear it up in no time

Always take acidophilus with antibiotics and it will help with diarrhea. Ask doctor?

Boudreaux’s Butt Paste :+1:t2:

Possible allergic reaction to the antibiotic . The same happened to my son . Zinc oxide mixed with Vaseline. 100 percent works .

Cornstarch in a clean salt and pepper shaker. Works well to absorb the moisture and ease the pain

If you can get a cream that contains zinc and castor oil that works like magic

I am shocked that not one person recommended coconut oil. Its a natural antibacterial and will clear up pretty much everything including diaper rash. I swear by it. I hope your little one feels better soon.

I have use the cream Desenex with the zinc in it it works wonderful, not the clear cream but the white cream, with Zinc

: Can his pediatrician or pharmacist recommend a probiotic to help his tummy?

Stop the antibiotic. Call dr to get something else.

Feed him probiotics, yogurt every day. My girl has been on antibiotics 3x, no diarrhea or diaper rash. Learned that from my pediatrician when my 19 year old was a baby.

Fresh aloe gel from the leaf

A&D ointment with every diaper change. I have eczema and it is a godsend when I have a flare. It works sooo well. I used it on all of the kids when they have had rash diaper rash whatever it’s cheap and works so well. And its OTC so no Rx needed

I use a&d original formula without the zinc

Air dry as much as you can so it can heal faster and then put a&d diaper

It could be to much antibiotic. I’ve had pharmacists tell me to watch for that with antibiotics. I have lowered the dose myself because if it

We hot a prescription salve worked over night

Diarrhea is common with infections. It’s probably not the antibiotics but the infection clearing itself out. Keep the script going for it to be effective. Give him some relief with a bath

Make a oatmeal bath and soak him in it just his bottom though

Butt Paste in the red tube works serious wonders you won’t be disappointed.

Ask your doctor for Canesten. The antibiotics are killing all the good bacteria in your son’s gut which is causing a yeast type infection. Also try a probiotic.

Try A&D ointment!! Sometimes the zinc in desitin ointment could irritate it more.

Butt paste for sure! Or dab some Vaseline on his butt!

Oatmeal baths & Aquaphor and/or Boudreauxs butt paste!

Talk to the doctor! They will most likely switch antibiotics. This happened to my son and it turned out it was an allergic reaction. He is now 11yo and still can’t take amoxicillin.

Constarch works wonders, it keeps it off of their skin.

When my kids have diaper rash keep giving them baths or setting a wash cloth on their butt and apply lots of cream. You can also get a diaper cream from the doctor. And u can try real diapers too it helps.

Ask your Dr. baby could be sensitive to that particular antibiotic.

Sudocreme works wonders

I use a&d brand diaper treatment cream or caldasen powder ( talc free ) with corn starch

For my son I got a Tupperware containers and mixed a and d and desatin together to make extra strong paste. It helped a lot.

lotromin and calmoseptine

Vegatable oil then corn starch…

Mylanta is a good barrier… use cotton swab to dab, dont wipe hard even w wipes. Then add ur diaper cream. If thatbdont work its probably a yeast infection and will need some nystatin cream from pcp… just speaking from a lot of experience and very recent

Sensi Care ointment. It’s amazing. It’s what they use at our Children’s hospital!

Corn starch in the diaper

Dr. Bordeaux works like a charm

Matanium is miracle cream, my little had it really bad (swollen and bleeding) and after using this for a couple of days it was pretty much cleared up xx

If you are nursing, breast milk will help.

When my baby got horrific diaper rash from her antibiotics for her ear infection, the only thing that helped was a combo of Z guard and Stoma powder as well as a ton of diaper-free time. We just put puppy pads down and let her air out every evening for a week. It was a game changer.

Call your doctor. He’s having side effects/allergic reaction to the antibiotic. They should be able to prescribe something else for him.

Does he eat yogurt yet? It will slow the diarrhea down, also BRAT diet: bananas, rice, applesauce and toast

The only thing that works for my daughter is Calmoseptine cream. You can find it at Walmart, or on Amazon. We originally got it from our pediatrician and thank God! I’ve tried all the other creams and all they did was make it worse! Buy some puppy pads and let baby air out for a while with no diaper on for as long as possible. Ditch the wipes until the rash heals up and instead use a soft washcloth, or some tissue and water to wipe their butt.

My daughter had this recently as well. quit using the wipes and actually used warm water to spray her bottom off instead. And when she napped put a towel down and let her sleep in the towel without a diaper to let it air out. Also used Boudreaux’s butt paste and the rash went away within 2 days!

I used a warm cloth rather than wipes for my little guy, lots of cream (but make sure his bum is dry before applying cream), and as much air drying time as possible. I used the human equivalent to puppy pads (the name currently escapes me) and just let him play on that to help air everything out.

Bag balm from Target. It’s $8 and it works amazing! My daughter had a horrible diaper rash while she was teething. She wasn’t eating solids either, I had no idea what to do. I tried literally every single diaper rash cream. I would lay her in front of a fan for about 2 minutes without her diaper on and then apply the bag balm.

Diarrhea is normal side effect of the antibiotic. Most Peds won’t switch due to diarrhea. Give baby probiotics. Mix A&D ointment, lotrimin (athletes foot cream), and maalox. Make sure he’s really dry and apply at every diaper change. Don’t use wipes but rinse his bottom under luke warm water. I’m a pediatric nurse and this works for most. If the mixture doesn’t help the rash call for a prescription for nystatin ointment.

Oatmeal baths and let him go diaperless except during sleeping times. It’ll be messy but the best thing for a diaper rash is to let it dry out.

Give him yogurt to eat. Helps prevent yeast infections!

2 or 3 hours after his antibiotics give him a couple drops of probiotics, it will help balance him out. Dont give them at the same time because they kinda cancel eachother out if you do, but if there are hours in between his body will have time to absorb them both safely. I use baby aquaphor for my 7 month olds rashes, let his bottom fully dry before applying it and putting the diaper back on, dont do it while his bottom is still wet from the wipes.
If you breastfeed, pump 4 ish oz and put it in his bath tonight, or drip some drops of breastmilk directly on the rash.

Bath the butt nighty … With warm water and soap … Dry with towel and put butt paste on … Works for about 2 to 3 days but works

Bathe in oatmeal and dry him good then apply balmex which is great for diaper rash.

Plain Greek yogurt. It’s like a yeast rash.

When my kids got horrible rashes I mixed up some of my own cream. I put some vaseline, antifungal, and triple antibiotic ointment.

I dealt with this with a preemie. Doctors tried everything but went back down to basics. Baking Soda made wipes with paper towel and baking soda and water. Baking soda baths, also Triple Paste.

Antibiotic ointment then diaper cream (Boudreaux butt paste) on top to seal it in. Diaper rash will be goneeee by tomorrow.

Soak him in a chamomile bath. That’ll help until the doc can rx. Him something for the probable yeast infection

Does he eat yogurt yet? That will help. My son used to get yeast infections from antibiotics, and his pediatrician recommended Lotrimin and hydrocortisone cream, cleared up in a day. Hang in there momma, and don’t be afraid to call his doc for advice.

Do you. Have any. Corn starch use it like powder

Try corn starch. It’s all nature. Put in on him every time you changing him. Won’t hurt him

Triple Paste is great

Lotrimin “Jock Itch” basically antifungal cream works great. Daughter’s doctor told me to apply a small layer on her diaper rash after she had the same thing due to antibiotics diahrea.
Now everytime they get a bad diaper rash I just apply some on it and it clears it right up.

I use witch hazel liquid and pour it on sensitive wipes for my newborn. Helps with rash or redness.

The best thing I’ve ever had for diaper rash is a combo of A&D ointment and corn starch. Out the ointment on first then cake it in starch. None of the diarrhea will touch his skin while the ointment with sooth and heal it

Does the diaper rash look yeasty? When my daughter was a baby she’d get wicked diaper rash. We used cortisone and lotriman on her bum and instead of using wipes we used a water squeeze bottle and wash cloth.
