Son wakes up screaming that his feet are hot, what is going on?

Mine did this after I had my son for almost 2 years. They would feel like they’d be on fire but not hot to the touch and it was so uncomfortable I couldn’t sleep. The dr prescribed meds for neuropathy but it didn’t work. Eventually it just went away. Still have no idea why this happened.

My guess is his feet are falling asleep, my kids flipped out when their legs or hands fell asleep. They didn’t distinguish the feeling or understand it for awhile.

Diabetes or nerve damage- see a doctor!!!

He needs to take magnesium. His muscles cramping. It happens to kids at this age sometimes. Do the blood work just incase. Next time he wakes up - make him stand on his both feet on the floor - it will make pain to go away.

Growing pains!
He probably just can’t describe the sensation as anything other than “hot”
My boys get them in their feet as well, wakes them up at night.
I have to massage their feet, focus on the toes, squeeze with pressure and push them backward until it eases the cramping in the feet.

My daughter feels that during rough growth spurts… I always just rub lavender lotion on her feet and she goes back to sleep

Long shot but could it be some form of pins and needles? My little one has been through something similar and that’s what we worked it out to be

Yes. I’m 71 and started suffering same. Went to dr and diagnosed w bad circulation. It can happen when younger too. Please take him for test so they can diagnose properly. I feel sorry for him as I wake up from a sound sleep from the pain and burning. Now on blood thinners and it has not happened for about 7 months.

Definitely a demon in the bed.

Wrap an ice pack around both bottoms of his feet.

Pray often.

I get that had it as a kid. It is Called RLS (restless leg Syndrome)
Please do a very expansive bloodtest. It Could be anything, Neuropathy not enough vit D, B12, B6 toxidity, iron deficiency…or diabetics…etc…

1st step GP and bloodwork including extensive Iron panel (look for ferritine) and extensive B look for B12 level (enough) and B6 ( too high/ toxidity) talkit through with your GP and or naturopath.

This sounds like it could be a recurring dream he’s having and it just seems so real to him. Kids sometimes struggle to differentiate between vivid dreams & reality. So I’d consider that, but also probably take him to the dr just to be safe. Let him get a whole check up and then you have that peace of mind that it’s nothing physical

I mean this in the nicest way possible- please don’t reach out to random people on FB. Take your kid to the doctor if you’re worried.

One story from my italian ancestors probably Circa 1908 ish … my great-uncle was complaining that someone was tickling his feet when he slept and he wanted to move his bed and he kept on complaining about this for three days. his bedroom was on the bottom of the house in the back of the house and finally after the third day his mother said okay take your bed and sleep in another room and see what happens.

That night, an earthquake came and the whole back of the house fell down the cliff and he would have been there had it not been for this ticklish feeling… and a mother who listened.

miracles do happen.

I agree do some research and ask the doctor.

Just take him to the pediatrician. So many people commenting why they have it, fibromialgia, diabetes, etc. I have a disease and this happens to me a lot but my point is don’t get scared by all these comments and just take em to the pediatrician! It’s probably something simple but I’d get that piece of mind through his doctor who knows him.

It’s possibly fibromyalgia. I have fibro, and my feet get extremely hot they burn like they’re on fire and it can be so painful and uncomfortable. I usually run them under some cold water which is a temporary help, but in the long run medication and lifestyle changes have been helpful. Hope you figure out what’s up with your son.:hugs:

Each and every one of you have fantastic advice and you all sound like very caring people. Hope she reads what you all have said and have him checked out. God bless each and everyone of you.

My mother had that. Please take him to the doctor. He could just have a high metabolism that makes him hot or could be something more serious. Good luck mom!

Have his pediatrician refer him to a vascular specialist. My daughter has KTS which is a rare vascular disease, so I’ve been told by her doctor things to watch for, such as feet or legs feeling hot. It could be a blood clot and shouldn’t be ignored.

I would guess either bad circulation or pins and needles from something like growing pains. Take him to the doctor and ask them if that’s a possibility.

Could be nerves in his feet hurting?

I have no answers, except you need to take him to the dr ASAP. Prayers momma

Talk to him, is he having a dream? Is something scaring him and he’s just using it as an excuse? Maybe make him magic foot spray to keep his feet cool😉 if it seems to be a real problem talk to his doctor

Your child has developed early signs of criminal scycopathy. Been raised unable to sleep in his own room unattended, it has revealed two things, that one your parenting skills are not even worthy of victorian standards, and two the child has now used the excuse of hot feet to leave his own bed to come to yours, because of his own selfish insecurities and sordid attempts at gaining your attention, alas he should be beaten quite harshly and warned never to leave his bed in want of yours, because, my dear if you continue on this destructive path of not identifying early childhood attempts at manipulating your emotions , you are inadvertently enabling the childs actions and planting the impression of this being perfectly acceptable behavior, act now, and perhaps he won’t grow up to be the next John Wayne gacy??

He needs to see a neurologist. I do the same thing and I have bad nerve damage from a child hood disease

When i have a sore throat my legs feel like they are on fire. My mom said i always told her that even when i was very young.

I have a blood condition called antiphospholipid syndrome (aps for short) and i wake up quite alot with this its horrible. I hope you manage to get some answers xxx

I am diabetic, type 2, I got neuropathy because of the diabetes. My feet at night burn , extremely…. I have creams… cbd with thc that works for me. It doesn’t get in your bloodstream so it’s safe for anyone to use but he needs to be seen by a doctor.

When I was a kiddo I used to get really bad feet cramps so bad I couldn’t sleep, would be crying they hurt so bad. No one could figure out why and it just stopped on its own at some point. I chalked it up to exceptionally painful growing pains. Nothing really helped other than just waiting until it stopped in my case.

I have restless leg syndrome and my feet feel like they get really hot when it acts up? Maybe that’s it? I would just ask his doc.

I remember waking up as kid with my feet on fire and my mom would bring me to the tub and run them under cold water. I still sleep with my feet outside of the blankets

He is a kid not an older person with neuropathy…i would go with the epsom salt soak advice and if that doesn’t help…then to the doc. The magnesium in epson salts is an important part of the rapid chemical reactions of a growth spurt… hell, its important for adults too…those old people know what their doing!

My great nephew has Fabry Disease. Took docs a long time to diagnose. Pain and burning in his feet was one of the 1st symptoms he experienced.

Pins and needles, circulation or nerve problem I’d say. What kind of socks (if any) does he wear during the day? You’d be surprised how painful it can be when firm fitting socks come off, for hours afterwards too when the blood gets back into the foot!

Growing pains! I used to get awful growing pains in my feet and legs as a child. Helping to stretch his feet and legs might help.

Sometimes children can tell fibs for attention… if you get him checked out and they can’t find anything wrong then maybe it’s time to have a conversation about lies xx hope you figure it out soon

I would consult his doctor. It sounds like neuropathy but I never heard of it in a child that young. It bears looking into in my opinion. I would also ask the doctor to check for diabetes.

My son had the same thing. He’d wake up in the morning and complain that his feet hurt and felt like they were on fire and he had a hard time walking for a while after getting up. We were so scared because we were reading things that said this was the first sign of leukemia so we went into automatic panic mode. Our pediatrician reassured us that it was just growing pains and that it is a real thing.

My oldest son complained every night about his feet. Doc found nothing but we found elevating them on a pillow helped him. Doc said maybe growing pains but nothing specific.

Is it hot or tingly? They could be falling asleep. I would call your son’s pediatrician and see what they say!

Restless leg syndrome! I’m an adult and it is horrible. Can’t imagine what the poor guy is feeling I take gabipentin for it.

If he walks outside barefoot they are calussed happens to me when walking on hot surfaces use alot if lotion after a bath and make him wear some kind of shoe

My feet got like that many years ago at night I had to keep my feet in a pan of cold water didn’t know what it was

I had this problem as a child and it ended up being restless leg syndrome.

Take him for a check up but could be a fungal issue like athletes foot. Diabetic Neuropathy is Very Very Very rarely in children so I wouldn’t worry about that as it is more than likely not the culprit. But the only way to get a definite answer is to go to the pediatrician.

If it’s close to their actual wake up time it could be their body warming up to ease them into being awake. I wake up roughly 20 minutes before my alarm with the same symptom

What was described as growing pain by one child specialist was found to be bone eating bacteria by another who did blood test, ultrasound scans, MRI and even CT scan to confirm. The second specialist thought it was auto immune as I have auto immune but it wasn’t when the blood test showed something was out of sync. She went on to have an operation to clean up the fragments and was put on 6 weeks of antibiotic drip. Total hospital admission was the cost of a myvi 8 years ago.

As such, I would advise you to bring your child for a check-up and even a second and third opinion. I still regret the delay in bringing my child for the second opinion till today.

My eldest daughter and my twin boy had this. My daughter was my durst child so I didnt know what to do. I tried warm towels on her feet. When my son came along I learnt that his was easily remedied once the room was cool so the ac would be turned on. They both eventually grew out of having hot feet.

Aside from the obvious “see a doctor”, moisture wicking socks are good for temperature regulation. Won’t hurt to wear them to bed

My feet will feel like they are on fire yet be freezing to the touch. No diagnosis as yet. I suspect drug allergy.

I suffer from hot feet every single night, ever since I was a preteen. Its literally like my feet are on fire. I still have no idea why. I’ve never officially been evaluated for it. I’ve heard neuropathy, fibromyalgia, poor circulation, etc. At his age it could be something as simple as growing pains. But you should still get him to the doctor. If it is something serious, let me tell you, dealing with it for decades hasn’t been fun. Better to figure it out now.

My mother has sugar and her feet does the same thing

I literally can’t breathe and start to have panic attacks when my feet are hot. If my feet get covered while I’m asleep I panic have ever since I can remember. Some night it gets so bad I had to put my feet in ice water just to calm myself down and then have fan on my feet

Definitely chat with your dr, there could be many causes, however the lest scary one is this next bit lol because I’m the same, there are three main areas that help with body temp regulations, head, hands an feet, not only are we taught we lose heat from those 3 points hence the old shoes, gloves an benies in winter, its still something to keep in mind on a daylie bases, because even though it might not be winter those same 3 parts still have a job lol, I have a tendacy to wrap up in my blankets witch I love but I get hot mainly my feet so I end up shoving one or both feet out of the blanket lol maybe start getting him to try that when his feet are hot

My kids never liked pj’s with feet in them because their feet got hot. I don’t like wearing shoes or socks unless it’s cool enough for the same reason.

My feet are always hot and I hated it as a kid I always try not to wear socks and I never have my feet covered at night because then I wake up feeling way too hot and I’m dripping in sweat

Mine do the same but randomly, to the point where I will get frustrated and will pour ice cold water on them even if I’m standing on my rug

Worry about anything to do with kids … its the responsible thing to do as a parent/caretaker.
Please take him to a professional for a proper diagnosis & treatment

A body pillow between the knees might help til you can get him into dr. Highly likely its just growing pains or his sleep position. Hope all the comments on here didnt make the worry stronger. Especially from the paintchip eater talking about him going against god or whatever. Pillow, cool water, lavender lotion, epsom salts etc are all a good place to start for relief but dont try them in place of a dr and make sure you go in.

Sounds like cramps or growing pains to me. Kids don’t always have the best way to describe something that hurts.

How about take him to the Doctor instead of asking people on the internet???

Haven’t read through the comments, obviously a doctors visit is best bet, but having thoughts and suggestions could help guide a doctor with vague symptoms. Another little out there possibility, I had a lot of strange sensational symptoms as a kid as well that doctors never figured out what they were, after being diagnosed with ADHD as an adult I have found out it was sensory issues which started to lessen as I got older and drink energy drinks as a terrible substitute treatment and now gone completely on proper medication. Just a thought if there’s no physical signs

Get him tested for Covid. It is an unusual symptom of it. Could be Covid toes.

My husband can’t have his feet constrained at night because of that

Sounds like nerve damage I take medicine my feet burn so bad Lycra he’s a little one but get him checked out

I agree on possible neuropathy
There are several different types My son has two types peripheral and autonomic Both types cause his feet to feel like they are on fire

Take him to the Dr.
We deal with claustrophobic feet. None of the kids or dad can keep socks on or keep feet under the blanket. I’d never heard of it until my fiance and his kids said it. I did check with the doc, and yes, there is actually a thing called that.
If your son has a ceiling fan turn it on… Most importantly call his Dr.

Mine don’t get hot but they do freeze and that’s not nice at all especially every night starting about 530 pm they get hurting so bad you gota get outa bed go out to rocker recliner put cover on and start pushing on toes eventually you go to sleep and learn how to relax while sleeping straight up. Going on 5 years of it nightly once in a blue moon you might be able to sneak back for a while.

Get a check up but maybe he’s just saying that because the bed is hot between three of you sharing a bed. I know there’s cooling comforters. Maybe try that? Also silk sheets make the bed cooler.

They may be falling asleep and he doesn’t know how to distinguish it.

Very often this is a sign of diabetic neurophy.See a doctor for testing.!!

This used to happen to me when I was pregnant. It was a circulation thing.

Could be Covid! Something about feet with kids

Dreaming. Ask him what he was doing in the dream, then continue. Probably a nightmare or past life.

His having growing pains massage with Vicks our cotton socks on

Take him in for medical attention. May be a nerve issue. Is he diabetic?

My daughter had strep and complained about hot feet

Has he ever had blood sugar issues? I have, I get that.
Cramping?

He may I’ll and that is how he is telling you. My daughter was a bellyacher.

Have they been checked for diabetes?

Cut out any diet products like diet coke and anything else. Diet products can cause nerve pain

Take sweet boy to the doctor. It might be nerve damage of some kind.

Let his doctor determine what is happening. Listen to your son - there may be something wrong

Take him to hospital a doctor can easily diagnose that.
