What causes irregular periods?

Endometrial ablation! I was the same way with horrible cramps as well as blood staying so low all the time doctors were always trying to give me blood. Bc pills, shots , patches nothing worked. Had the ablation done after years of suffering and I am telling you it is a life changer!!

Yes. They told me the same thing. I’m about at the point of taking my uterus out.

I had my period for three months and I went to my gyno who did some blood and sent me to a hematologist and that’s where I found out that I had hereditary elliptocytosis

Get a second opinion and birth control can make bleed up to 6 months.

I have PCOS and I had at least 7 vials of blood to confirm it. You might want to look for another dr

You need to see a new doctor. PCOS needs testing, not assumptions. It could also have been a miscarriage, and your body hasn’t passed all the placenta yet. You could go into shock. You might need a d+c

Endometriosis or change of life … how old are u ?

Have you ever gotten you thyroid checked out?

Get off the birth control ASAP! Not sure what you’re on but when I took Depo it did the same thing to me!
I just found out I have endometriosis ask your doc to check everything!

You need a different doctor.

Victoria Moskal just reading through the comments look at all these issues, just like the symptoms you’ve had.

The birth control didn’t work for me either. Had a D&C…didnt help…ended up putting me on megestrol…Started out taking 4 a day and had to be spread out 6 hrs apart or I would start bleeding again…I have weaned my self down to 4 a week now but have not had any problems for like 10 years

I would go get a second opinion. This isn’t normal, and if you’re truly losing that much blood you’re more than likely anemic at this point.

Did you get the vaccine?

After my first child was born i was on mine for 14 months straight, no matter what they done nothing helped, 3.5 years later I had my second and done the same for 9 months. My doctor wouldn’t even see me anymore because I had to go so much that I racked up so many bills. It’s was horrible so I found another doctor and they did a hysterectomy, it was my last option!!

First of all, this is the only comment i think I’ve seen on here without someone laughing and being a dick! So yay! Anywho, get a second opinion. Yes, it may be pcos but still bleeding for months straight isn’t good. When i first started my period (age 12) I bled for an entire year straight. My grandmother raised me so I was too embarrassed to tell her, but by that year Mark I couldn’t get out of bed, couldn’t do really anything I was so weak. Went to the dr, and they did put me on birth control to help regulate. I do have pcos, but regardless, bleeding still, after the birth control, you need a second opinion, and some other treatment

I wouldn’t even stop for the week on the BC pills. Eventually you will stop having a cycle or if you do it shouldn’t last more than a day. I did this for about 12 years when my periods were so bad. I wasn’t diagnosed pcos just a lot of ovarian cyst and very heavy long cycles. Like 17 days on 10 days off and repeat. Took about 6 months to really notice a change.

I think you should see an OBGYN. Theres definitely something not right.

I had this exact thing happen when I was 38. My GYN ended up taking a biopsy during a papsmear, sent it off and called me 3 days later…it was uterine cancer. I was referred to a gynecologist oncologist who confirmed it and that it was just at stage 1A thank the Lord. I had a complete hysterectomy (with the DaVinci Robot) 4 weeks later in which it was ALL removed, with no chemo or radiation. I had to follow up twice a year for 5 years. I am so happy that I was cleared and released from care this past January. I have been cancer free almost 6 years.
Thankful every day. Good luck.

Take an iron supplement, daily, until you figure out what’s going on.

I did for over a year straight… Finally opted to have a procedure done… After I tried everything else … Good luck!

I had mine …for a whole year !! Yes … 1 solid year. And then I would get it 2 or 3 times a year for 7 years…until I finally went to a infertility Specialist because I wasn’t getting pregnant and I was diagnosed with PCOS.

Was in the same boat. Discovered a benign tumor the size of a grapefruit on one ovary and large fibroids. After hysterectomy life became so much better (still have one ovary so not in menopause yet)

I had an endometrial ablation done due to cysts and endometriosis that worked for a year and then had a full hysterectomy -I would see a different doctor.

I had a period for 9 months when they put the nexplanon on. Doctor put me on a small pill on top of it and my period now lasts 20-25 days😩

I went through the same thing. First have them check your hemoglobin. I went 3 months and the new dr checked that and the next day…blood transfusion. Losing too much blood… That will help with the exhaustion. I have PCOS.
My dr prescribed me some Progesterone (Provera). My periods would stay too long or be away too long. This medicine helped me. If the period did not come like it suppose to, I took the pills as prescribed, and it came. If it stayed too long, same thing but it cut it off and it come back regular cycle.
This worked for me…find another Dr. Your body and you demand results and not throw something at you and see if it works. Good luck to you. Xoxo

Go get a blood test!! Its your thyroid!! I go thru the same thing

I bled for 6 months straight. It was so bad that I ended up in the ER three times and was always given some pill and told it would stop in a few days. It never did. On my 4th trip to the hospital I met a doctor that changed my life. She ended up performing a hysterectomy on me and it was discovered I had Adenomyosis, a cousin to endometriosis. Keep pushing until someone listens!

Go to a womans clinic

I had a 20 day cycle before my first son and they said it was irregular uterine bleeding.

I also have struggled with irregularity and after more learning I discovered imight and do have pcos after my 2nd son.

I am on birth control pills and my period comes on time like clockwork just some cycles are heavier than other.

I would consult your ongyn for sure if the pills arent regulating.

Also if u skip a pill or take different times a day that could affect u

Mine got like this in my 40 i got an IUD

This happened to me a couple of years ago. My gyno put me on Microgestin 1.5/30 and in 2 weeks it stopped and eventually got to normal-ish. I never had a normal period, ever. But that made it less crazy. What are you on? Ask her about the one I tried.

I have the same Problem. The Cause was my thyroid. I had my thyroid removed and have Graves. But still have this problem. My dr put me on Progesterone hoping this works. I did birth control and IUD no help. So new dr and now i just started progesterone hoping it works

I went through his after my last son and my Dr at the time was horrible she done 6 dnc and it didn’t stop it she then put me on birth control hat didn’t stop it and this was heavy bleeding 3 times I had to get blood. Finally I was so out of it and made it to a different Dr he done a bunch of test and said my body couldn’t handle anymore he ties my tubes done a dnc and I got the Nova sure done in 2010 after 8 months of heavy bleeding and multiple blood transfusions and a new Dr I’ve not had any problems or a period since!

Following
My doc also didn’t check anything and just pit me on birth control injections
Now have an iud should have stopped periods but still get heavy ones that often last over a week

My girlfriend went through this ever revolving cycle for 2 yrs out of frustration and resolve ended up with a hysterectomy problem solved

If you do have PCOS birth control is unlikely to help. Follow this page for help navigating it. Healthy PCOS
You should be able to request blood tests to confirm you have it tho

I have endometriosis and had this same issue. Find another doctor. Endometriosis is only found during surgery though so if you can afford it push for it. Best thing I ever did for myself. Be your own advocate!

My daughter has this and they did some tests. Best they came up with was “ abnormal uterine bleeding” :rage:

Had that too from start of my first period. Bled for 6 months stopped for 2. Doctor could never figure it out . Birth control had no affect on my periods. I got fixed . Fought those periods from age 10 to 32.

My sister had undiagnosed ovarian cancer …insist on an ultrasound and blood test

Get another Dr. preferably an Ob./Gyn who specializes in that part of the body. Hopefully he/she will run test to find out Why this is happening! Then they can find out How to treat it. Best of luck to you. Take care.

See another doctor who will give you a proper diagnosis. In the meantime, I am pretty sure the reason why you may be tired is that you need iron supplements. It sounds scary.

My treatment for PCOS included Metformin and a birth control called Lo Loestrin Fe. It stopped everything for years. I had a definite increase in joint pain so I stopped taking both meds.

See a gyno. And a different doctor. I had to have a full hysterectomy (tubes and ovaries too) at age 31 due to endometrial hyperplasia. The doctor cannot diagnose PCOS or anything like that without the proper tests.

Had this issue. My uterus was huge and the wall was thick. Get a few tests done mine turned out to be uterine cancer and I had to have a full hysterectomy prayers for you

Fibroids I had the same thing I went to a trip to Colorado and I think it was the altitude it came down to the point I could not walk… dr was talking about a hysterectomy I’m almost 50 I am much better now but I think it was the altitude

Go get checked! I had the same and turned out it was uterine cancer…luckily they caught it in time…dont wait…see your gyno asap

This happened to me after I had my twins. Turned out I blew my thyroid out. Your thyroid is in your neck and controls all hormones. Have your Dr check your thyroid levels. I also have the merina to stop my cycle for 5 years

I had same symptoms and it was endometriosis, I had to have a full hysterectomy which through me into full blown menopause at 36… GET TO A Gynecologist!!! ASAP as this is not normal.
Prayers to you, and good luck

I had this and it was an eptopic pregnancy n I was having a miscarriage. Stick to your guns n see another Dr.

I had the same symptoms, one time I bled for 4 months straight! I have pcos. At first they thought it was endometriosis but I had a laparoscopy and was totally clear apart from cysts on my ovary. I’ll go on the pill once finished ttc to help control the symptoms

My sister just had the same thing at 31 she had a cyst that grew to the size of an apple in her uterus they put her on me a pause pills to shrink the cyst she had to get examined she list so much blood she passed out and ended up in the er cause she didn’t want to get examined stayed there for 5 days

I would find a doctor that will do blood work and ultrasound to find the primary cause.

Same thing happened to me after getting the copper iud removed due to complications. Started the pill immediately after the removal and my body was struggling with the switch. One day I woke up and was bleeding heavily from the start, I put a tampon in and within 15-20 minutes there was blood dripping down my thighs and also passed the biggest blood clot I’ve ever seen come out of me. I immediately called the dr and was able to be seen that day. Drew blood to run tests to see if I had become anemic and luckily I was good in that way. My dr prescribed me pills to stop the bleeding that I had to stay on for a couple months to regulate my periods once again as I have been fine ever since. My periods are so light I barely even bleed on a panty liner.

Please have your blood drawn. My sister had bleeding and it turned out she was in DIC with leukemia.

don’t rely on a GP, get a referral to see a Gynecologist, and if that dr doesn’t have answers, go to a different one… sometimes you have to see multiple specialists to get any real answers… good luck!

A friend of mine was diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer after bleeding for 12 weeks. I’d definitely go see a gynecologist.

I had the same issue and was given the mini pill or a high dose of progesterone to stop the bleeding and had a ultrasound to find out I had uterine fibroids and a massive ovarian cyst. I am now on a progesterone birth control until I can hopefully just get a hysterectomy.

Get to a gyno ASAP!!! Or even go to planned Parenthood, they should be able to give you something to stop it. You may need to go for a progestin only pill, I went through the same thing in 2016. I also had to stop taking Tylenol and only take ibuprofen for a while and it finally stopped.

Get a second opinion. Depending on your age and risk for cancer get screened for it. My mother in law went undiagnosed and had stage 4 colon cancer so please get screened for all cancers

I would start my own iron tablets to help build the blood and Vitamin K. You need to go to a different Dr who will check for endometriosis and complications from that. I am going thru cancer. I just had a complete hysterectomy 6 weeks ago. I am not saying you have cancer but one of the questions they kept asking was do you have abnormal bleeding. Get a Dr that will refer you to an oncologist for gynecology, it is not comfortable but it could answer a million questions and perhaps save your life down the road.

Same!!! Had the merenia for a few years due to heavy periods…worked great until it didn’t. Bleed for 2 months straight…test after test proved i had cervical cancer stage 2 binary…if it wasn’t for me bleeding forever I would have never known

Unfortunately you need to visit a number of doctors until, hopefully, you find one that actually cares that you are ill. My opinion of “health care workers” is just one notch above pond scum. Not a popular opinion and I have been pilloried a number of times for posting it.

Could be pcos but that’s quite the jump for not having tests done. I had extensive tests done to get diagnosed with pcos. Go to a different doctor before you end up needing a hysterectomy before you even want one

After I had one of my kids , that happened to me . The Dr. put me on the pill. It only made it worse , so I stopped taking any and it finally stopped . Check to see how your iron level is . You may need some suppliments !

I have pcos I went through a lot of different types of birth control before I found one that helped. Even then it didnt really help.

Im currently going through something similar (although worse) if poster would like to message me they are more than welcome too.

I have pcos diagnosed at 12… do you have other symptoms

You need to have your hemoglobin checked for sure. If it’s too low you will need a transfusion.

This happened to me and I finally had to have a hysterectomy to get it to stop.

Medical is different in different countries. Mine was immediately ultrasound and they found fibroids that were growing long and their tips irritated the womb walls. Doc did a day surgery to burn castrate off the fibroids. But warn that they will grow back.

I had to have a hysterectomy at 27. I would go 6-8 weeks straight stop for 5-7 days and go another 6-8 weeks. I did this for 3 years and the doctors tried multiple forms of birth control pills, and eventually started giving me Depo injections to help. I got my first 2 shots 3 months apart, then went to monthly, and within a year I was getting them weekly. I started bleeding to the point I started blacking out and became Anemic. Eventually the doctors said that I had severe fibroid tumors and decided it was time to do an ablation. However while doing the procedure a doctor found that I actually had cancer cells and within days I was sent in for the hysterectomy. Due to the doctors not taking the problem serious at the time the cells had already spread to my lymph nodes to my groin area. I ended up 3 surgeries, 4 drain tubes, and unable to use my left leg for 6 months. I am now 50 and am on a hormone patch, have severe swelling to my legs from the lymph nodes (9) being removed, and have hip and thigh pain with muscle damage. If I would have listened to my body and demanded the doctors figure it out sooner instead of just trusting them I probably wouldn’t be in constant pain. Please don’t just let them do a quick diagnosis without a complete work up, because the long term damage can be life changing.

Get an ultrasound and a blood test done.

Definitely see a gynaecologist it’s not normal and the pill etc is their first line of defence because gp don’t know everything

I had this problem as well. I needed a higher dose birth control.

Go to another doctor and keep going until they listen. You have to strongly advocate for yourself!

you need to go back to a Dr(preferably an OBGYN) asap you cant just let it go on…

When ihad that issue i was prescribed Tranexamic acid, which did work to slow flow and even shorten the cycle

How does it classify as TMI? If you’re not up to life’s many quizzical turns, curiosities, off colour conversations, challenges and other odd topics, you should clearly state so. Why are questions about the female body, TMI? Are you a man?

Could also be menapause starting early…but see a dr now

Did they go to their primary doctor or an obgyn?

If you have had the shot or are regularly around someone who has, there have been many many reports of women having these problems.

Youi had thaa may need a dnc to clean you out I had that with my 1st son

Don’t leave it,get another opinion, and insist on getting a scan done.

Sounds like you need to see a better doctor that possibly have to have a hysterectomy sorry

Did you get the covid vaxx? My friends and I all had weird period side effects for a few mos after.

I needed a hysterectomy to fix same problem .

I need to find another doc. U r anemic I’m positive and until u get that under control u will continue to bleed. Please find another doc ASAP. God bless

See an ob/gyn. They may recommend an ablation.
