What rate should I be paid for babysitting?

That is extremely generous of you to be willing to take care of her child for only 30 a week which is great.

What! Hell nah and your responsible for there education. 100 a week. They try a daycare with out assistance they will pay more. Unless you giving family discount.

Personally I do virtual learning with our 4 at home and it is beyond stressful! I was in tears hiding in my room! I would feel uncomfortable paying someone even just $30 a day alone for my 6 year old! I have 13,12,11 and 6! Our 6 year old you literally have to sit with him the entire time because he’s 6 and keeping him focused is a chore all in it’s self!

When my son started elementary school we paid the after school care $25 to watch him for 2 hours until I could pick him up

That’s way too cheap. You should ask for at least minimum wage. You’re providing a good service worthy of more than $3/hr. I’d want to pay someone more than 3/hr for watching my baby too

My children’s preschool fed them two meals a day and did some teaching. It was $31 a day per kid.

I’m in Nz I pay my babysitter for just minding my two boys when I have work meetings two hours tops $30. $50-$60 if i have a whole day or night out. (So I dont often).

My daycare for my son 9ish yrs ago charged $17 a day. When I babysat for someone I did $20 a day since I bought all the food and drinks (plus the kid was a good eater. Lol) I wouldnt charge what a daycare does, especially if its a friend. The remote learning for a 1st grader isn’t much either so its not like thats a big task/inconvenience really. Also depends on the parents income, if they are asking you because they can’t afford daycare then you shouldn’t charge what a daycare does…

$30 is fair, i paid a 13 year old $20 a day for 7 hours a day over the summer and the daycare charged $50 a day for the other days for my 8 year old with no e-learning

That is good. I pay $30/day for one and $10 for the other to have before and after school care. Day care around me is 35-40 per day for each kid.

I am not sure where $30 is cool for 10 hours but here in NY 10 hours equates to a minimum $80-$100 a day.

100 a week with it being 10 hours days that covers the learning and taking care of them and have them bring food and treats and drinks

I don’t know where you live but in NY, my teenager makes $15 an hour when she babysits

I pay $13 an hour for my nanny to watch my 11 month old daughter. 9 hours a day, 4 days a week.

So I owned my own daycare and I charged 15 a day. I fed 2 meals and drove kids to school and picked them up. My sister on the other hand watched a child and she charged 30 a day for him. I honestly should have charged more but around here people couldn’t afford more than what I charged.

I think $30 is still low but you need to feel comfortable.

My friend sits a 2 year old. She gets $100 a day. Their a lot of work. I’d say you should get $50 a day specially home schooling as well.

Many of y’all that are providing/suggesting $10+/hr… those might be baby sitting rates on a weekend or date night but this situation is more of a nanny.

So I’m curious… you all would charge let’s say $10/hr x10hrs/day and let’s say the parent has an average or decent job making say $20/hr x 8hrs/day. So the nanny gets $100/day of the parents $160/day, making the parent really only earning $60/day???

Why would someone work just to pay another person under the table cash more than they get paid in the long run?

And that’s not even considering the $100 is cash and the $160 is before taxes & insurance… so after deductions basically the parent is working for free or may even be losing money

That is much much too low. I pay 40 dollars a day, and that is way less than my babysitter normally charges but is open to sliding scale payments. Plus she has no teaching responsibilities, just pure babysitting and just one three out who is very sweet and independent. If you can, and I’m the future definitely ask for more to 10 an hr at the VERY LEAST. Good luck!:+1:

Thats very sweet of you to do it for 30 a day! Definitely not asking too much and I’m 100% positive you would be a blessing to that momma!

$35 a day is very reasonable. Gosh, even $50 a day is a bargain. $3 an hr to watch someone’s most precious child is a huge responsibility plus feeding & schooling? They sure are getting a bargain at that price. Word will get out and you will be in demand.
Remember when you name your price that people want the best for their child and they can’t play cheap is better.

Definitely need to charge more. At the very LEAST $40 per day!

I would ask for at least 6-8 per hour. I pay my sitter 12 an hour. She is 16, and my kids are 12 and 9 with online school.

I paid $30 for all day for my child who was 3 years old, wasn’t in school, and potty trained.

We use the boys and girls club, 7:30-5:30 with remote learning and we pay $40 a week per kid which includes 2 meals a day. They are also CPR and emergency trained. HOWEVER. We had an after school sitter who charged $50 a week for both of them (none of those qualifications) , and then we also had an Afterschool program that we paid $160 for both a week for (qualifications).
I think it really just depends.

When my daughter was little lady that used to watch her charged $40 for the day $20 for 4 hours and under and that was 12 years ago

Umm, $30 a day is sooooo low. I work 8-6 as a nanny (granted, it is more than babysitting) and I took a pay cut for $240 a day…2 years ago.

I paid my niece over the summer what I would pay if he was in daycare which was $125. If we do date night it’s $8 a hour. She pretty much just has to sit on the couch and it’s cash so she never complained

Check out locally what daycares charge. Chargé similar to that because hybrid learning is a bunch of extra responsibility and stress

What?! Are so kidding me? In the middle of a global pandemic and remote learning (so let’s be honest, you’re basically teacher) and all other duties (food, transport, keeping a mask :mask: on, etc…) ur thinking 25 a day? I know I live in the NE, but typically that would by about 250/week for the hours u mentioned. AND peace of mind to a parent is priceless!! Don’t sell yourself short!!

True, you need to call EECCP and you could perhaps get approved for providing remote learning care, but I believe you can only do that if you do not get paid for it. Otherwise it is illegal to provide care in YOUR home but if you want to care for the child in HIS/HER home that’s babysitting and the state is fine with that.

I work in a center and 30 per day was what part time paid pre covid. We served all meals but of course we didn’t have to supervise school work.

$30 for the full day and doing her schooling is definitely not asking to much. I’d ask at least that.

More than fair in my area. The prices people are charging for this is crazy.

My first grade son is in a center at $80 a day. I have to sit with him in the morning for e-learning. He is there from 7:30 to 5:30. I’m there 9 to noon.

Daycares charge between $155-$250 per week (in my area) depending on how many days and if the child is an infant. I would research going child care rates in your area. Home care with school assistance is DEFINITELY worth more than $3 per hour. IMO

$50 a day per kid is what I charge for babysitting

I pay 25 a day for my 3 yr old. That included snacks, etc. I supplied some snacks, and all pullups etc.

I would look at care giver sites in your area and see what they charge.

It’s so sad how much we low-ball ourselves when doing this type of work. Can you imagine any other job in North America where someone would say “I’m making $3 an hour and I feel like that’s too much”?! Regulated daycare $30 a day - fine. They have multiple children in multiple rooms so it works out. If you’re taking care of more than one child, and making this amount for each of them, maybe not so bad. But $30 per day, 3 days a week-is it even worth it? And you have to work 10 hour days to make that $30. It’s really unfortunate that the people who take care of a person’s child-their most prized possession-is undervalued in this way. I’m an Early Childhood Educator. I get it. Everything to do with wages in regard to childcare, private or regulated, is in such a sad state.

$3? No one I know would work for that. Unless you’re asking a 12 yr old and they don’t have to to do anything other than watch her.

Where do you live and how do you know the person who asked? These matter to me in the cost.

The average hourly rate for a babysitter is $16.75 for one child and $19.26 for two kids, according to the 2019 annual study compiled by UrbanSitter.

To be honest I would ask for $15/hour minimum. Don’t sell yourself short.

I think you are asking to little. You are taking on multiple duties and should be compensated. Full time day care is carging 150.00 or more per week with vacation time and paid days off. Dont under value yourself.

I would call it $100 a week to be honest. W the schooling it make a it more work instead of just watching someone’s kid. Lots of involvement I assume.

I charge 17/hr.
It’s not family and I am certified in early childhood education… but 30 seems way low!

Idk I paid my former nanny 70.00 a day. I think the amount you’re asking is more than reasonable.

Back in the 90s I was paid 20 dollars a day so 30 is a bit low with inflation

I agree that $25 a day is low but since that is what you quoted her, I would honor that…just my opinion

Daycares near here charge AT LEAST $40 a day if it’s per day rate you’re looking for.

That sounds too cheap to me to do school and feed and take care of.

If you are doing it for a friend that’s really sweet of you but that’s a lot of time and work. I did the same thing for a friend of mine. I told her the same price and she offered me $50 a day. After babysitting I felt like that was a lore fair price. Still probably cheaper than most day cares here in California.

We charge $25 per day per child but the have to bring their own meals and snacks.

That is way too low for a going rate - we pay $80 a day - less hours

That’s how much I pay $3 an hour from 9:30 to 6:30

Uhhh 30$ a day is too LITTLE. I’d got with at least 60$ a day. At least.

I do $30/day for my in home daycare and drop in care so I would go with that.

I almost make that an hour as a babysitter/nanny and doing virtual learning. Where do you live that $30 a day is acceptable?

When my daughter went to the sitter it was $100 a week for 4 to 6 hours a day.

My daughter is charging. 10-15 an hour. $3 an hour is very very low especially if you need someone to sit and monitor online learning. I have a 6 year old, she going to school. That rate would be acceptable if you brought your child to my home and I could get my stuff done while watching your child. (Mom if 5, I know money probably tight). What state?

$100 for all 3 long days.i pay 20 for 4 hrs to a teenager for my 10 yr old.10 hrs would be atleast $40 a day.especially adult and online learning

Close friend , or family ? Lots of things to consider. Are you home with your children ? Are you trying to do work from home of you’re own at this time ?

Nothing less than minimum wage. Sorry but that’s more than full time plus food plus education. If she’s providing food discount since but minimum wage is fair

I watch a 1 year old everyday, $25/day. I don’t think your price is unreasonable at all.

40-50 a day. 7-5 is a long time. Make it worth your while.

I think it depends on where you live. We pay $12.50 an hour

Daycares here are 37.50 a day and that’s without remote learning

Here in NZ you would get at the least 10 an hour that’s at the very least. 3 an hour seems extremely low.

Going rate is 5 an hour and that doesn’t include meals snacks or tutoring. 30 is cheap.

That’s super cheap! U are giving her a great deal

Care assistants in the uk are paid 8.61 an hour ,looking after 29 residents…at a ratio of 8 per carer…for 12 hrs a day /night…do the math…

I agree that’s very low, for in home child care and tutoring. If be asking at least 5 or 6.

Your child is worth a heap more than $10 an hour.

Depends on your location. It can vary 30 minutes from one location to the next.

I would be asking for alot more than that!! Double that plus a little more for virtual learning during the day!

I am not trying to be nasty, but what world do you live in? $3 per hour??? What person can live at that price? You need to pay the babysitter AT LEAST minimum wage, more if you want a good sitter who will be willing to do extras for you.

At least $20 an hour!

3$ an hour is a steal! I feel like 50$ a day is more than generous on your part.

I think your charging way less than could and way less than you should

Thise where I live who are sitters and also doing the virtual learners thing are changing $200 plus a week.

I mean, it’s not hard to take care of a 6yr old. No diapers, bottles ,fighting naps etc. Idk about hybrid learning. I can send my child to preschool from 7am till 6pm 5 days a week for 120 here (and it’s a nice daycare) . But a babysitter for 3 days a week at 30 a day is $90. Why are babysitters more expensive then daycare and preschool? They learn there too. But that’s just me. I’d stick with $25 a day. But that’s just me. Especially if your not providing her food

Do you have kids of your own also?
If you are doing virtual learning you should def charge more!

At least $10 per hour for one child with and increasing with every checks thereafter. Anything less is an insult.

I pay 30 per day for an in home day care in the midwest. 150 a week. Seems reasonable.

We plan on paying ours $9 an hour. IF, and WHEN we need her.

I paid $40-$50 for my kids but that’s without schooling

She can do homework in the evening at home. I would go at least $40, minimum!

$30 sounds good on the Birthday assumption they are providing lunch and snacks and drinks for their child. It is a lot of responsibility.

$30 is not enough. I agree with people $10 - 15 per hour.

$30 is cheap when you’re also providing homeschooling…

I was getting paid $15 an hour for a 6 yo if you’re doing all the schooling I would as for at least $20 an hour

Where I live min is 12 to 15 a kid an hr

I would say take no less than minimum wage in your area. I personally think $3 an hr is selling yourself way too short.

$50 a day is fair, your providing food, and schooling.

I was paying 30 a day in iowa that was an in home daycare and on the cheap side

I have been doing this for 13 years.I would charge 30/35 nothing under.

If had to do all of those requirements I would charge $5 per hour.

30 dollars a day doesn’t even begin to cover the work that you would do.

That’s cheap! We pay $10-$15 and hour for three kids.
