What rate should I be paid for babysitting?

I was paying 50 a day for 2 kids … so yes 30 is fine

I say at least $60 a day, even if it’s for friend or family member.

I will be paying someone $60/day to do that for my six year old

I would be charging the normal working hours rate per hour as you are feeding and doing school work aswell.

she’s just 10 hrs from a full time job??? So from what I’ve seen in the comments servers make just enough right :joy:

Oh no, too low! Ours charge 10.00 per hour to come in during day - usually 8-4

Sorry, but if you’re not certified, or running a daycare I dont feel you should be making “certified” wages!! If you want $15 an hour, then go get a real job!! Families are not working just so they can pay the babysitter all their wages and not have any money at the end of the day for their bills!! I can’t believe the wages that people demand for babysitting. Especially if its in the home of the child, where food is provided, and most people babysitting cant even clean up after themselves. Babysitting sure isnt the same now days like it was when I was a kid!!

Traditionally my experience with in home daycare has been $25 to $30 a day. If you are licensed you could charge more if you want. If you aren’t licensed I’d say the $30 is pretty normal from my experience. I would ask of they want you to provide food, because that can get tricky there if there’s allergies or special preferences.

Are you a charity?
Don’t cheat yourself. Also have her provide food, ready to eat, not a box of macaroni and cheese that you have to prepare.
If you sell yourself short, you will burn out quickly.
I’ve done daycare.

I paid a 16yo $20ph to look after my kids(when they were all sleeping) $3 Is not right!!

Oh lord no! The going rate in houston, Texas is $15- 20 per hour!!

30 is dirt cheap lucky to have you

Rates shouldn’t t change for babysitting! Babysitting is the same now as it was 40 years ago! You play with the kids, feed them, they play. Since you have to have with school too it’s a bit more. Unless it’s too stressful.
My personal rule was what would put a strain on the mom going to work? Is she working to pay you… or her bills?
Have her provide meals.

From what I know $10 per hour is the going rate .

$30 a week! No way,
Go with 75$ and that’s a deal

I would pay someone at least 10 an hour

And that did not include teaching them

Very low wage and that’s the thing just think of it as a wage , Three dollars an a hour NO it’s waaaay too LOW way way way too low

I would say between $35-$40/day

Babysitting is one thing but doing the hybrid learning with it is a whole new game…$30 is truly not enough if adding that to the babysitting!!..I pd $20 an hr for my son’s tutor…don’t short yourself!!

I was paying $65 a day per child.

$10 an hour is acceptable

$30 is MORE than fair.

I usually do 10 an hour

First of all where are you located?

What state are you in Bc in New York these prices ranges from $25+ per hour.

You need to be paid way more plus you are teaching

$50 a day, at the very lowest!! Honestly $75 would still be a hell of a deal

$10-$15 dollars an hour is fair.

What country are you in? In NZ the base rate for “student’s” to babysit is $15ph

It’s $180 for 5 days a week around sw Missouri

Um what state are you in? I pay my babysitter $15/hr

$30 a day is very cheap.

That’s about average where I live. Much more, and someone couldn’t afford to pay. Aren’t many jobs here that pay over minimum wage. I think it really depends on the area you live in, and your personal relationship with the person.

I’d say you deserve no less than $50 a day, generously. We don’t know your situation though, maybe the other parent can’t afford to pay more.

I would say $30-$40 a day depending on if the child is at your house and if you have to provide meals. I live in small town in GA and the home daycare my child goes to is $20 with lunch provided. Other kids go too.

That’s actually not a lot of money. It’s possible that they can’t afford to pay more. Lowest I found was $12 an hour and that was hard to find.

You’re cutting yourself short. People say $30/day is fine but that’s not even minimum wage. That’s so ridiculous. It’s not your fault that they can’t afford childcare. You’re a person who is doing work, you aren’t a charity. I would charge at least minimum wage per hour to watch the kid. If they can’t afford childcare then they really need to figure something else out. Charging $3/hr is taking advantage of you.

Do you know the going rate is probably $15 + per hour?

I charge $5 an hour per child when I baby-sit. If I was supplying the food and also helping with schooling I would charge $8 an hour.

I used to pay $20 a day for my kiddo, she was there 10 hours and was fed breakfast and lunch. $30 is fair considering it’s also teaching.

I babysat as a side job and charged 25 a child without the schooling part. So id say thats a pretty good rate at 30.

I did $10 per hour when I babysat

I charge 25 a day per kid and 40 for 2 I haven’t had a family with more than 2

$30 should be a minimum. Before and after school programs are this price and only a few hrs. It’s nice to help, but it’s a lot of work.

If you find someone at that rate let me know I wanna go back to work! Minimum 10-15 and hr

In 2010 that was acceptable now the going rate is 14 an hour for all of the children also that is in Ontario

3 dollars an hour is cheep. Don’t you think?

Does she qualify for government assistance?

Daycare here is between 75 and 145 a week for 2-5 yr olds

$30 a day is ridiculous. For 10 hours? It doesn’t matter where you live, if you accept that then you are being taken advantage of!
You could ask for at least minimum wage… around here in southern ca the going rate is $15/hr

You are not a daycare. You will not be caring for a room full of children. Make it worth your while. No less than $50/day. And be adamant about the hours so you’re not taken advantage of.

$11 to $15 an hour is kind of standard in our area depending upon the care providers experience.

$3 an hour!!?!? Nope absolutely not

Haha this is ridiculous rate! I pay my neighbor $20 an hour to come help my kids with classwork!

I pay my babysitter to watch a 4yr old Tuesday- Thursday 6:40-3:30 and Friday 6:40-11 I pay $60 a week. Daycare in my area is $110 a week, I just can’t afford it right now.
I was quoted by another woman for $420 a week. I told her I can’t afford that and she cussed me out and shamed me. Needless to say, she was rude and lost a lot of interested parents :stuck_out_tongue:

Pet sitters charge more

The going rate is at least $10-$15 per hour! Or at least $100 per day!

Babysitting is up to $5 per hour

That’s cheap. Babysitting in my area makes more than min wage. I’m talking 10- 15 an hour

I pay my nanny 75 a day for 4!

I feel that is fair with the adding fact that you are helping her with school as well.

I pay over 100 a day for babysitting for a toddler no learning.

Holy smokes my teens get 10.00 a hour for babysitting! 3.00 an hour? Just wow!!

My babysitter charges $20/day per kid.
I have 2 kids…

What state are you in?

People are being crazy. 30 dollars a day is basically what someone would pay a daycare. If you expect more than that, then expect them to opt to bring the child to daycare. This isn’t a one time babysitting job. The individual is basically providing a place for the kid to be supervised while being on a computer with a teacher. As long as the mom provides food, it’s a totally reasonable rate. This kid doesn’t need to be fed, changed or anything, this person isn’t traveling or leaving the comfort of their own home and still can attend to their own household responsibilities, or even be working from home. It’s not a “job”.

Reading these comments made me realize, I’m totally overpaying my babysitters :rofl:

Its usually per hour?

My babysitter does it for $40

I pay 10 a hr per kid in al. Or I did 5 years ago

I am a nanny and I make that per hour

I would say $25 an hour!!!

In North Carolina I happily paid 100$ per week

Reading all these comments makes me feel like I’m not charging enough for the 4 kids I babysit for.

My daycare is 130 for 5 days

Wow. That’s really cheap rates!! That’s not even minimum wage for goodness sake!

Around me, sitters get $10-15/hour

I was doing this for free for my neighbour for two years, I was in college and would stay 8 hours most end of week days so she could work Arvo/night shift , id use their food to cook for her two young boys and we’d play games, read books and go to the park, id have them from 2:30 - 1030ish and I felt happy to be helping her out. They’d always supply me my dinner though.

Personally, you are not charging enough.

30 a day seems reasonable to me.

Sounds like a bargain

I pay $50 a day. $30 is a deal

Going rate is 10 an hour

You should be asking way more!

Very reasonable, if not cheap! I’d say $30/day

I think 30 is fair for all youre doing

$40-$50 a day. You’re not babysitting when your teaching the child and are responsible for their education. 30 hrs in a daycare is considered FULL TIME!! You pay full time at 30 hrs and that’s going to be roughly $250.00 a week. Be fair but geez loize don’t screw yourself either.

At the bare minimum $15 an hour

I pay 40.00 per day for my 4 yo

At least 40 50 a day

Geez I charge $15 per hr!

I don’t think you’re asking enough!

I’d ask for $100 a week.

20/hr is fair for 3kids

Seriously , where do you live? Sitters in Manhattan/ NYC charge 25$ an HOUR for my 6 and 9 years old charming kids.

We pay our sahm sitter $60/day so I definitely don’t think asking $30 is too much. Especially if you have to help with zoom lessons.

30 is the minimum tbh

That is crazy cheap! Where I live daycares cost upwards of $300 per week. That’s $60 per day (based on a 5 day week) on the low end. If you’re doing 3 days a week, including schooling, meals & snacks, you deserve more. $180 might be a bit much for your area it sounds like so I’d definitely go with around $100 a week minimum.
